Tue, 6 May 2014 03:34:17 EST An introduction Hi All! I'm trying SparkPeople again for the third time in the last 5 years. With the events I have planned for the next couple of years, I'm hoping the motivation will stay. But of course there is always the pain that can get in the way. I am 30 with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (diagnosed at 7). Over the last couple of years the weight has been having more of an impact and needs to go (read that as, "my knees swell up for no apparent reason and draining seems to have less impact each time"... I was just diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in my lower back, and hips. Did I spell it right? I think the dr. called it something else. It's on the tip of my tongue, but can't recall it. The thing that really really stinks is that I am only 36! Like, what? How did this happen? I am a single mom now, and recently upped my exercise routine in view of being more physically fit so that I can work more. I started having more back pain, and didn't know why. I thought that ... Arthritis sucks, but it is still no excuse to be heavy... in fact, it is the very excuse to NOT be heavy! I'm working on it - for my sake and my kids'. Please stop by any time to let the team know how you are doing. We are here to support each other. Fri, 16 Jul 2010 22:26:05 EST I am a new member Hi everyone. I fell the 2nd of June in my kitchen and hurt my right leg and was later diagnosed with arthritis in my knee and right hip. I have been devastated with this diagnose and was already depressed because I lost my beloved husband March 4th of this year after 38 wonderful years together.

My doctor wants me to lose weight and exercise, and he mainly mentioned walking. I do have lots of pilates, yoga and walking exercise dvds, but haven't gotten into that yet as Im waiting u... Sun, 20 Jun 2010 16:44:19 EST Weekly Check In 6/20 Happy Last Day of Spring!!!

I can't believe that it is the last day of Spring today and this year is half over. Looking back to January, I have come a long way with my weight loss and my eating habits. There have been blips along the way, and I could have lost more, but as long as I weigh less then what I was at the start of the year, that makes me happy.

I have a thread up about my last week, and I encourage everyone to read it. Last week was a real eye opener for me an... Sun, 20 Jun 2010 10:43:38 EST What has become easier for you? This week has been a eye opener for me as my weight has gone down. I noticed yesterday that I had to adjust the seat in my car, cause my feet didn't reach the pedals as well....and no I am not getting shorter yet (not quite at that age). It was strange, cause it's something I never thought about. I guess my butt must be getting smaller, which is a very good thing.

I also put on a size 18 pair of pants yesterday, that didn't have any elastic in the waist!! In Feb 2009 I was to the p... Sat, 19 Jun 2010 09:39:54 EST Cinnamon and Honey I was forwarded an email with information about using a mixture of honey and cinnamon to help cure diseases. For arthritis it says to take regularly, morning and night, one cup hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder.

Has anyone tried this or know if it actually works? Thu, 17 Jun 2010 21:41:19 EST Weekly Check In 6/13 Hi everyone,

I'm sorry that I am so late getting this up. There was a personal issue I had to deal with, and everything is all right now.

How did everyone do last week? Did you lose/gain and do you know why? Share with us what you learned last week so we can all apply it to us, if needed.

There have been a lot of us dealing with 5 lbs gain/loss for a while. Maybe it's time to step out of your comfort zone. I had been losing pretty regular for a few weeks,... Sun, 13 Jun 2010 22:35:40 EST Weekly Check In 6/6 For Everyone!! This check in is for everyone to tell us how you did last week, where you need help, what you did to help get over a craving, and your goal for the coming week. Let's get some response this week so we can help to motivate each other and get this weight off.

I also need to know what types of subjects you would like to know more about. I am flailing here trying to come up with subjects that you need to learn more about. Please help me by telling me where you need help. I love this gr... Sun, 6 Jun 2010 14:00:20 EST I Need Some Help Hi team,

Six days ago my landlady offered me a three bedroom unit in the complex I live in. I jumped at the chance because 3 bedroom places don't come up to often. My move is going to happen in 2-3 weeks whenever the last people get their stuff out.

I have been asking for help from my neighbors. Most know about the arthritis and the medication I am on. They have seen me on some of my worst days. I don't like asking for help, but I can't afford a moving company and c... Thu, 3 Jun 2010 14:37:43 EST Weekly Check In 5/30 I have really been out of things this last week and I apologize for that. I hope that you had a great week and that this next week will be better.

How was last week for you? Let's hear some replies this week and really dwell on what we could have done different or what worked for you.

I have a challenge for everyone this coming week. I haven't had ANY deep fried foods for a long time. It is something that upsets my body and makes me gain. Well, that was proven again wit... Sun, 30 May 2010 12:31:55 EST Weekly Check in 5/23 It has been a great (well should I say normal) Spring so far in the state of Washington. I have felt so much better this year and able to get so much done that I can't imagine how I ever let myself get so heavy. Last year, I didn't get out in the garden at all and had people come over from my garden group to help me. This year, I am able to get out there and do it myself. It may be slowly and I do hurt afterward, but that is just my arthritis, and there is nothing I can do about that. The key... Sun, 2 May 2010 11:29:28 EST Team Goals In case you haven't noticed, the goals have all zeroed out and it is the start of a new month. I will set the goals to start at the beginning of the month a figure it to last till the end. Let's see how soon we can reach the end of the goal. I challenge you to try to meet the goal, but don't make yourself hurt just to do it. Only do as much as you can per day and record any amount of steps that you do. And don't forget to drink that WATER!!! Sat, 1 May 2010 01:23:48 EST Tracking Goals If you are tracking goals for our group, make sure that you delete the one that says 2000 steps a day and join the one that says 5000 steps a day. I was wondering why the meter wasn't advancing very much and found out that most of you are still recording your steps under the 2000 step goal. I need to find out how to handle the goal when it is done, like close it some how, but until then, lets all get into the same goal. Just wondering how your week is going and where you need some support. I am having a VERY stressful week again and I need to cut this out. I am trying to eat more during the day and not as much at night. When I follow this, it works great, but I have a hard time eating more during the day. Then in the evening I get hungry and eat more than I should. Any suggestions?

I have a challenge to all of you: Chose just ONE of the suggestions, in this list and follow through with it for... Wed, 14 Apr 2010 10:06:25 EST Weekly Checkin 4/11 I am going to start a weekly check in for this group. I think it would help if we all reported in and let each other know how we are doing, where we have struggled during the last week and what successes we have had. That way we can be more informed and know how to help each other out.

It seems as if we are doing a lot of struggling with weight loss lately. I have heard from quite a few of you that can't seem to get into the grove. We had a big push at the beginning of the year a... Sun, 11 Apr 2010 11:42:01 EST How Sweets Makes You Fat HOW SWEETS MAKE YOU FAT

We all know that if we eat too much fat, most of us will get fat. What many people do not realize is that even eating excess sugar can make you fat. Here's how.

Sugar is a prime energy source for the body. Sugar molecules are constantly traveling to each cell to provide energy. Within each cell is a tiny furnace, called the mitochondria. The sugar or glucose molecules enter the furnace and are burned as energy for the cell. This energy- conversion... Sat, 10 Apr 2010 10:16:55 EST feeling disabled I just found out that I need to get a raised toilet seat, hand grips for my shower and a parking permit to park in wheelchair parking. I suffer from osteoarthritis in my knees, arthritis in my right hip and some degenerative problems in my lower back. I want to be able to do more than I can now. I have had surgery in my right knee, although they say I am too young for a total knee replacement just yet. I have taken the Synvisc injections, although they don't seem to help much if anything. The one thing my doctor says over and over again is to exercise and lose weight. I am hoping to be able to accomplish ... Mon, 5 Apr 2010 19:58:17 EST I am back with Spark and so happy to be here! I just was diagnosed with Osteo Arthritis of the hip, after suffering a bad fall where I broke my shoulder and arm and sprained my hip. I was trying to do too much cardio at the time and I think my hip just gave out under me. I am just now getting back into the swing of things after 8 weeks of pain and need to approach my exercise differently this time. I have started with some yoga for arthritis and Leslie Sansone walking video. I thought this group will be helpful to share ideas. Thank... I need to give my body a boost and this seems to be a great way to do it. It is a relatively new way of eating, but sounds very appealing. I will be posting a reply every day to let you know how it is going. If anyone wants to join me, we can kick butt together.

Here is one green list. I have been wanting one and I think it is time for me to get going on some type of exercise. I just turned 60 this year and it feels like I am 100. I need both knees replaced but I also have arthritis throughout my body. Everything is an effort. The blessings in my life include a wonderful husband, two great kitties (one with arthritis in her hind legs)and 7 grandchildren. I have joined many weight groups only to quit when the exercise talks begin. This sounds like a community that fits my needs. Would love to hear from anyone with a comment... I have been a SparkPeople member for a couple of years now. I am really struggling with arthritis now so wanted to join a team that applies. I don't like to be overwhelmed with a large team so have chosen this one because you are a small group.
I know that I have Arthritis because x-rays have confirmed it in my hands, knees, hips, but I do not know what type of arthritis I have. In Sept 09, I had my left knee replaced due to arthritis when left me pretty much bone on bone and in such pain that I could no longer walk without 800 mg motrin. I have just started Spark and want to learn/share ideas about knee replacement and learning to walk more. I am so glad I did the knee replacement as I am now pain free. It was scarey to take almost 2 months off because I am single and self employed as a real estate appraiser in NC. 198 Tue, 9 Feb 2010 03:44:20 EST MSN Live Chat Is anyone on MSN live chat or any of the other chats that we could get on as a group? I really miss the chat feature that they had here and miss chatting with everyone. I thought that if we could all sign up to one the these, then we could chat once in a while. It doesn't have to be MSN, it's the one I was just looking at. Does anyone use a different chat that we could use? Let me know so we can get to know each other better.
