Mon, 4 Apr 2016 20:18:42 EST Banana Cake My sister wasn't feeling well one day, so I decided that I would make dessert for her. When I asked her what she wanted, she said, "Cake." I found this Abundant Life Foods Banana Cake Mix, and it sounded delicious, so I started to make it. The directions were surprisingly easy to follow, as I thought, it being cake, it would be difficult. When it came out of the oven, it was a light tan color and looked amazing. After it cooled, I took a bite and found that the banana flavor was very distinct... Fri, 18 Mar 2016 11:10:18 EST gluten and acid reflux I'm curious. Could gluten cause acid reflux? I've listened to the audio book 'Wheat Belly' several times and it all just makes so much sense - I finally decided to bite the bullet and try it. I started 3/4/15. It was difficult at first - my goal was 10 days -- but I've gone way past 10 days (now 6/17/15) and it ceased being difficult (for me) at about the 10 days. That was when I stopped craving or even thinking of wanting to eat any wheat products.

I don't even really bother with subs... Thu, 14 May 2015 13:05:54 EST gluten and chronic back ache, finger stiffness Hello Everyone
I've been 99% gluten-free for about six months now, apart from Xmas-New Year's and Easter, when I indulged in the traditional baked goods that I had made (I live in Greece, where irresistible treats are traditional). I have seen enormous improvement in my chronic back ache, for which I used to take Voltaren tablets and other NSAIDS in addition to Voltaren and other ointments, Chinese red oils, and herbal remedies such as turmeric (which did help) and devil's claw, as well... Sun, 3 May 2015 11:18:44 EST Newbie here I used to think that "gluten free" was ridiculous. But, the more I read and hear about how bad wheat is for us, the more I would like to know. So, here I am. HELP! Haha 40 Wed, 29 Apr 2015 16:26:46 EST Finding other sensitivities Since going gluten free I have found other foods which cause problems such as onions, corn coffee beet sugar and pork. Sun, 8 Feb 2015 17:09:37 EST Gluten and FODMAP Hi all! I'm your newbie and I am going to need all of your advice and support. My boyfriend has gone gluten free and it is kicked up a notch with a FODMAP diet limiting us as well. This comes after being tested for Celiac and Crohn's but both were negative. He has massive digestive issues and no gall bladder. The dr says just because he doesn't have celiac's doesn't mean he isn't sensitive. So we are going hardcore w/ FODMAP and after a few weeks hope to add in dairy and see where that stands... Tue, 6 Jan 2015 08:25:39 EST Side Dishes I usually eat oatmeal, potatoes, brown rice pasta, rice and quinoa for side dishes. I do not like any GF breads or bread products. Mon, 29 Dec 2014 17:55:31 EST New to GF and need lots of help Hello all,
I started yesterday on my GF journey. It wasn't too bad yesterday, but I'm afraid I'm going to get stuck making two meals, one for me and one for my 12 and 14 yr olds who are picky eaters. They are not fond of change. Is there a place that I can make a regular receipt into a GF one? Tue, 11 Nov 2014 08:50:04 EST Business lunch I have a business lunch coming up that will be at a local Mexican Restaurant. Tue, 30 Sep 2014 11:34:05 EST Favorite exercise anytime of the year What is your favorite exercise for anytime of the year? From spring through fall so far its mowing the yard (my first year this year) with a push mower. When its too cold or wet outside, I do a workout DVD to help with the exercises. Sat, 30 Aug 2014 21:59:02 EST New to Gluten Free & SP Hello everyone! I have only been with SP about a month now. I loved the fact that there was so much information to be found on this site, from diets and nutrition to exercising. I am very thankful to have found this team, because I need a lot of help understanding this whole gluten free life.

To give a bit of background, I have been a heavy bread/processed carbs eater all m... Tue, 26 Aug 2014 11:22:46 EST Affordable gluten free? I was watching something on TV the other day and a guy was talking about substitutions for some things (mainly it was things that caused fatigue, so not all gluten), and I noticed that everything he had said cost twice as much as the original, at least. It is like the flours. To get coconut flour here is 6.99/lb, where regular flour is $2-something for 5 pounds. His other substitute was sprouted grains. I haven't looked at them -- haven't even seen them around here -- so don't know what t... Thu, 24 Jul 2014 17:47:23 EST Testing? Can anyone tell me what the blood test is for Gluten sensitivity or Celiac disease? Obviously mine turned out normal because the doctor didn't call with the results. I have results of all my tests now, though and was trying to find the results. I found one called Tis Transglutaminase IgA on here and wondered if that might be it. I hit in the lower normal range with it. I do bloat when I eat bread/rolls, so we thought it was gluten sensitivity, but tests don't seem to show it. Tue, 1 Jul 2014 17:51:01 EST Wheat allergy, + eggs, bananas..... I can't get to the specialist until august 1st at 10 a.m. My regular DR ran an allergy test and wheat, eggs and bananas show me intolerant. Wheat being the highest. I assume that means no gluten and so did my DR. It's been 2 weeks since I've had anything with gluten that I'm aware of. Are there other names for gluten in the ingredient list? I broke out in Coins Eczema and that is what brought on the allergy test. I'm also allergic to environmental things.
Any help you can offer ... The stores here have some like the rice, flax, coconut, almond, garbanzo bean. A friend got me a cookbook that has a lot of recipes using buckwheat. I finally found one store that had 2 bags of it (1 lb each). I can't find it anywhere else. Most of the mixed flours I find have the garbanzo bean flour and I cannot eat that. Fri, 4 Apr 2014 11:27:11 EST New to trying gluten free/wheat free I'm Darlene and am trying to do gluten free to see if that is what is causing one of the problems I have. I had an endoscopy several years ago and the doctor said it didn't show any problems, but when my PCP pulled the report up again it said to verify the celiac result with a blood test. I had that blood test done last week, but havent gotten the results yet. I had stopped eating bread a couple months ago, but did have tortillas sometimes.

My problems are with trying to find s... Mon, 31 Mar 2014 11:59:20 EST Gluten Intoleran t/Allergy I am almost forty and have suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis in my hands for almost 20 years. I recently (2 years ago) was diagnosed with Lupus. I had to give up tanning as the sun would cause a skin rash, and the medication for it made me very sensitive and I would burn easily. While the emotional issues will take longer to understand, I just tracked my typical meal from the time before spark. What I used to eat. I was shocked! No wonder I was gaining weight! Also, I had no idea about my celiac disease until 5 years ago. I was probably a mess; lack of digestion, crazy nutritional inputs, absorption issues.....

What about you? What did you eat on a daily basis before spark? Try plugging ... Mon, 18 Apr 2011 12:19:30 EST Hey! Hey everyone. My name is Jen and I have been gluten free for almost 2 years after finding out I have an intolerance. I have been doing the 17 day diet (along with using the site) for about 3 months and have lost 8 pounds. My 25th birthday is just around the corner (literally only about a week away) and I am not the weight I was hoping to be. I am hoping that joining this group will give me the motivation to stay away from gluten during my week off from school (I am a substitute teacher) espe... Sun, 17 Apr 2011 08:51:07 EST Almond Nut Thins Blue Diamond makes a cracker called Nut Thins. They are delicious! I first found them on, but I've now found my local grocery store also carries them. I saw them at Walmart too, but I like the smokehouse and cheddar flavors and they didn't have either of those. Tue, 12 Apr 2011 13:30:11 EST Hello! Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I am limiting down towards a gluten free diet after numerous migraines. I have found some good recipes so far and am always willing to share. Tue, 12 Apr 2011 13:27:25 EST Does this have gluten in it? Hi All,

I'm still fighting my way through the grocery store, trying to keep the "enemy" at bay, but you know how sneaky that gluten can be...hiding in all sorts of places you'd never expect. Usually a quick google search is all it takes to get an answer, but in this case I'm coming up empty. So, the question is:

Is Bird's Eye Multi-Grain Blend with Spinach, Tomato & Onions gluten free? Please say's my fav...!!! Tue, 15 Mar 2011 20:43:51 EST Hi! Hello everyone.
My name is Brandy. I just started a gluten free lifestyle about a 3 months ago and feel great! Though sometimes the food isn't all that good. I have found some really great ones in my quest for decent bread. lol. When the doctor told me that they thought I was gluten intolerant I thought that I would rather die first than give up my bread. But after trying it for a little while I realized its not so bad. I have only been at it for a few months, but I already feel like ... Fri, 18 Feb 2011 12:13:51 EST Good Morning! Hi Everyone!

My name is Lauri and I recently (yesterday!) found out that I am gluten intolerant. What a shocker-I truly cannot imagine my life without wonderful breads and the like--but here it is. Apparently this has been at the root of a lot of health issues and supposedly once I'm gluten-free for a while I'm going to see some amazing results. I hope so! I need to lose weight and I need to go gluten-free, starting right now.

Any advice, thoughts, encouragement, any... Tue, 15 Feb 2011 08:32:53 EST No more regrets about my body. Here I am in a bikini. This bikini is my dream size, so it's a little too small in a few places. I thought, though, that I'd make it my profile picture in order to not pretend that my weight is my ideal. I'm not hiding behind my more flattering pictures. I'm out there, flabby parts and all, to begin my honest journey toward the body I want.

Truly, I have little weight to lose compared to many of the other users on Sparkpeople, and I don't mean to diminish your goals. For me, losin... Sun, 13 Feb 2011 23:31:35 EST Introduction - Hello everyone! Hi! My name is Kathleen, I've been playing around on Spark for over a year now but haven't really participated in the message boards so far. I'm 25 and currently living in Redlands, CA.

I started losing weight when I was 20 years old and 242 pounds. I just woke up one morning and, on a whim, decided to see if I could handle a vegetarian diet. This led me to an ever-increasing awareness of my body's needs and abilities... I learned to cook and enjoy it, started working out and d... Wed, 9 Feb 2011 15:46:45 EST Dad has Celiac 39 My dad has been diagnosed with Celiac Disease. I would say recently, but the other day during a gluten free diet conversation with my Dad I discovered that he was diagnosed as a teen. Well color me surprised! My dad was re-diagnosed with Celiac about 5 years ago and then advised me and my siblings to get tested. I have yet to go in and get tested (I know, I procrastinate) but I did do a one week test of no wheat and when I brought wheat back into my life I had an averse (very pa... Sun, 23 Jan 2011 15:46:12 EST Gluten free to support my son Hi! I read about SparkPeople in People magazine and thought I would give it a try to get rid of those 20 yo-yo pounds that won't stay gone! 234

I'm happy to find this group - my nine-year-old son was diagnosed as gluten-intolerant in October. It's made a huge, positive difference in his health, but he always was a picky eater and knocking out his "comfort carbs" (and mine!) has been tough. I'm especially looking for vegetarian, GF dinner ideas. Wed, 12 Jan 2011 10:04:34 EST More than a new year's resolution Hi everyone...

found a link to this website on a friend's Facebook profile and thought I'd give it a try. I'm not extremely overweight, but have always had a few po eiunds too many though I've been playing soccer and I'm not a big eater either. So I figure I'm doing something wrong. Asthma, thyroid gland problems and my latest diet change (for medical reasons) to dairy-free and gluten-free don't necessarily make things easier.

Anyway... hoping this will work, it definite... I feel better for giving up the breads, but I still miss them sometimes. I used to make all my own breads, but now I eat rice crackers, rice cakes, and steamed rice. I'm very tight financially, so I need help planning on my menus and cooking! I had my stomach stapled about 13 years ago, lost 125 lbs, then gained back 65. Hey all,

I suddenly became completely lactose intolerant last year, and after going completely lactose-free about a month ago, discovered my continued symptoms indicate I'm intolerant of something else as well. So, I've embarked on a gluten-free diet to see how I feel. This is my second go-around: I also attempted gluten-free earlier this year, but failed miserably at eliminating all lactose and gluten since I was working in a bakery at the time. (Surrounded, literally, by tempt... Sun, 12 Sep 2010 12:22:33 EST I am New !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! I have had a lots of health issues and i look into gluten allergy/intolerance. Is this ok with everyone?

This would be a great time to think now about what goals we would like to achieve over the next couple of months - especially during the upcoming winter months (at least for those in the snowbound areas) when those who like to walk outside may be at a bit of a disadvantage or may not be able to access a treadmill.

Thoughts? Tue, 7 Sep 2010 09:36:48 EST Hello! My name is Natalie My diet currently consists of fish, chicken, a few red meats, well cooked veggies and some rice now and then. Cant wait to read about how you all do it too! Mon, 6 Sep 2010 23:35:49 EST New to this team But never took Celiac serious! My husband has had Celiac Sprue for nearly 5 years, or that's when he was diagnosed. I might as well have it myself. He's not taking it seriously and I gave up telling him he can't have this or that. I felt it wasn't worth the fight. Well, maybe I wasn't taking it serious because today I read an article that has stopped me in my shoes ! I'm looking for feedback on this article and thought where better to start than HERE. Click on this link;
<BR... Wed, 1 Sep 2010 18:42:34 EST Introduction to group Hi :)

I've been a member of SP for a while to varying degrees of interactivity. This past year has been a year of incredible change. I've learned a lot about what works for me, and now it's time to buckle down and apply it in a methodological manner using SP's tools.

6ish years ago or so (at least that after looking at journal entries the other day), my doctor and I were going down the road of "What's *wrong* with me?" In and amongst the umpteen million tests was a celia... Wed, 1 Sep 2010 12:17:49 EST
