The first thing I learned was that I have taken very, very good care of myself. The nurse was talking about blood sugars routinely in the 200s or higher (with one patient who had one as high as 1500) and the highest mine has ever been --- off medication, at the endo's request, I might add --- was 257. Yesterday, a day after I joined, the day before I was planning to go to the gym and burn off some energy (I get very fidgety if I haven't burned off enough energy), I hurt myself. I walked into the leg of the couch, which happens to be a metal pipe. Wearing shoes hurts and walking is mildly painful.
