Sun, 11 Aug 2013 02:44:20 EST Hello, I'm Michele I was diagnosed w/hypothyroidism in 2008 but quit taking meds. Didn't think they were doing anything for me. Didn't understand what they were suppose to do.

Then in Dec. '12, I quit smoking (with patch) and was being treated for broncitus and was told that I should get back on my thyroid meds (I was complaining of brain fog and being tired). It's fair to say that I still didn't understand the thyroid issue. Besides, I didn't have insurance for labs.

As I was reducing... Wed, 31 Jul 2013 08:57:34 EST Testosterone pellets? Hello Everyone,

I am hypothyroid and have just switched to the brand name Synthroid rather than the generic. Still no luck with losing weight. I exercise and watch the calories closely and am absolutely amazed that I can't lose a pound! It was suggested that maybe it was hormonal as well. I'm post-menopausal. Has anyone heard of Testosterone pellets as a hormonal treatment? Sat, 27 Jul 2013 13:58:20 EST Nightmar es/Vivid dreams? Hey all,

I've been on synthroid since May 30th, and though I'm sleeping better than I was up to that time, I still have nearly continuous nightmares/vivid dreams during the night. I am newly diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and have been on lowest dose of Synthroid for 3 months. I've had high thyroid antibodies for many years and since 2007 have had many hypo-thyroid symptoms. Finally, the tests showed a problem. I have Mary Shomon's books and I am renewing my exercise plan now that the meds have had a chance to work. At the time of my diagnosis, I was told that I didn't need to go to an Endocrinologist - so I didn't (also I had grown up being told by my mother that thyroid problems were a quack - but that is another story). Now after meeting more people with thyroid issues I am on a waiting list to see an endo. Hopefully I will finall... I look forward to learning all I can about hypothyroidism and things that have worked for other people. 30 Sun, 14 Jul 2013 21:25:25 EST Is anyone NOT taking Rx Meds? I'm just wondering because if you check the internet there are tons of Docs who try to use iodine and/or other herbals along with iodine to get the thyroid to kick into gear the natural way rather than ignore it or kill it. I'm just starting this method myself (yes my Doc is testing my TSH every so often) and my levels are coming closer and closer to the normal range although very slowly.

Do ALL your "symptoms" of hypothyroid go away with the Sinthroid, Armours or other prescrip... What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! Wed, 10 Jul 2013 16:35:36 EST Green Smoothies disrupt thyroid? I have hypothyroidism. I started drinking green smoothies in May using mostly spinach. About a month ago I started having more symptoms, which surprised me because it usually improves in the summer. I took a blood test and my TSH has gone up (meaning it got worse) and my Dr upped my Synthroid (I also take Cytomel.) Has anyone else had this issue? I knew spinach/kale/etc could effect your thyroid, but I was really surprised at how much. Has anyone else had this problem? Sun, 7 Jul 2013 08:59:43 EST New to the team Hello. My name is Gina and I am new to the team. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 3 weeks ago and have been on my meds for 2 weeks. I am wondering how long it will take for it to start working. Hi all,

I'm in the process of getting a handle on what my doctor and I believe is hypothyroidism. My numbers are "normal" but my symptoms all line up with hypothyroid, and my mom has hastimotos and my sister has nodules on her thyroid and my mom's sister has been on synthroid for 20 years. So the doctor has put me on synthroid. However, taking it in the morning has been difficult because I generally need to eat something before too long, or else I don't get a break to eat again ... Sun, 30 Jun 2013 16:17:27 EST Introducing Myself Hi! I am Alnita and I have lived with hypothyroidism for 7 years now. I just recently switched doctors because my former doctor NEVER changed my hormone dosage. Needless to say it took me constantly being tired and depressed and gaining 50 pounds to realize I needed to make the change. My motto for myself now is 386 !

Sun, 23 Jun 2013 21:18:14 EST Introducing myself I have had hypothyroidism and on medication for about 7 years now. I have always struggled with my weight and was constantly tested as a child/teenager for thyroid problems, since it seems to run in my family. In a way, it was a sense of relief for me to be diagnosed, since I had all the signs and symptoms for years, but in another way the battle seems to wager on with my weight. Fri, 1 Mar 2013 10:41:10 EST how I found my Thyroid Doc I called a pharmacy here in my town that I knew the Pharmacist had been there for over 40 yrs (not that this matters) and asked him for a list of Drs in town willing to prescribe Cytomel. And he turned me on to what is now the best PCP and an OBGYN I have ever had and they both prescribe Cytomel, so it was a 2fer for me! Wed, 27 Feb 2013 20:15:27 EST most recent TSH 3rd gen. blood test question My most recent blood work showed a result of 1.239 mcIU/mL (range being 0.550-4.780)

That is a bit lower than it was a year ago. Does anyone know at what point a doctor would change the dosage----after it falls to 0.550 or goes below 0. 550? Tue, 26 Feb 2013 15:04:17 EST New here I am Robin and I found out I was hypothyroid about 20 years ago. I was on Synthroid for about 18 1/2 years before I finally found out about Armour Thyroid about a year and a half ago. Ever since I have been on I have noticed a significant difference in the way I feel. I feel much better, not as tired as I use to be and seem to have more energy.

I am trying to find new ways/supplements to help with my thyroid disorder. I am looking at supplements such as Pyruvate, CLA, and MCT.... Sat, 23 Feb 2013 16:33:39 EST New member 2/13 I have not had a blood test this year, but past years have shown my TSH in "normal" level.

That said, in my mid 20s I was diagnosed with hypothyroid and started taking Synthroid. I can't remember when I stopped taking that and have had "normal" blood tests for decades since as far as TSH goes.

Then I went to a Chiro who also uses other modalities and he said to me that my thyroid is not working proplerly and has not for a long time. Also that I am not digesting m... Fri, 22 Feb 2013 13:32:19 EST Struggling to improve fitness I have been doing Adventure Bootcamp for almost 2 years now 3 - 5 times a week. It basically consists of body weight exercises + running sprints + whatever torture the trainer can think up for that particular day.
I have managed to improve my push ups, sit ups & other similar weight lifting exercises, but even after all this time I still cannot run continually for even 100 metres and I can hardly walk up a hill or climb a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing like a steam train. ... Wed, 20 Feb 2013 04:39:06 EST Frustrated I went to the dr last week just knowing my TSH was off. It wasn't. it was on the high end of normal

3.58
BUT I'm feeling so BLEAH I'm just not sure what else. I have a physical next month, although I need to change the date to be 6 weeks out. Mon, 18 Feb 2013 23:12:49 EST Newbie Hello!

I was just diagnosed February 13th with Hypothyroidism. Started Levothyroxine 50Mcg the next day. Been feeling frustrated with this. I feel like I don't know what to eat. I quit drinking soy milk b/c I read it interferes with thyroid function, been going crazy reading labels finding that so many food products contain "Soy Lecithin". Before this my thyroid was kind of telling me I was headed in this direction but I guess I was hoping I'd be older(I'm 38 now) when it actually... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 11:21:38 EST Veg/pescetarian in Midwest Hello everyone,

Joined SP in December and lapsed a bit in Jan. Saw a piece on goitrogens and freaked out a little, hoping to find some sanity here. I saw on another thread that goitrogenic veggies are ok when cooked (whew, cause there's a lot of spinach in my fridge), so this board has already been time well spent - thanks! Sun, 17 Feb 2013 22:31:33 EST Any vegetarians with Hashimoto's here? I saw a topic about this from 2010 but figured I'd start another one.....just wondering if there are other vegetarians in this group and if so, what do you guys eat?? I've read up on the bad food list ("goiterogenic foods") and that's like everything I like to eat!! I've known about soy for a long time and try to limit that to edamame and the occasional tofu stirfry, but how do I avoid broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, kale, peanuts, almonds, turnips, corn, etc? (like right now I ha... Sat, 16 Feb 2013 15:39:34 EST Looking for help, info, etc. Hi I'm new to the team. I'm 51 years old, diagnosed 2 years ago with hypothyroidism; treated by PCP for 6 mos. Endocrinologist diagnosed (in this order) Diabetes and Hashimoto's Disease; my confusion with the Diabetes part is that as long as my thyroid was so out of whack, the other numbers really aren't right. Don't know if this is true or not true, I've been told both. This Dr. was more concerned about diabetes (which I still don't believe I have after talking with REAL diabetics) than ge... Fri, 8 Feb 2013 22:41:04 EST Hello! My name is Lindsay. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's at 18. I'm 22 now and in that time I have not done very well with controlling either my hypothyroidism or my weight. But that is definitely going to change now! Wed, 6 Feb 2013 22:55:19 EST Dr. Oz and Hypothyroidism I'm not necessarily a fan of Dr. Oz. He's alright but I think that sometimes he says things that aren't 100% truthful. He's not exactly lying but the line between truth and lying is fudged a little. Anyway, I read somewhere where he had mentioned on his show that he has hypothyroidism and has had it for many years. So, I went looking to see what I could find out about what he had said on his show. This is what I found

ys-boost-thyroid-funct... Hello,
Hope this is the right thread for this. I came across this site a few days ago and participated in the Thyroid 101 webinar. The site and the webinar were put together by Mary Shomon and and an MD named Kent Holtorf. Some good introductory information as far as I can tell. Even a bit on how to talk a reluctant doctor.

It gave me some new things to think about or rethink about in terms of what I am doing. Mon, 21 Jan 2013 07:36:27 EST New to the team but not to SP or hypothyroidism Hello everyone, my name is Cathy and I've had hypothyroidism for 30+ years. I use to live in Colorado and had an awesome doctor. Whenever I wanted / needed to lose weight all I had to do was exercise and eat right (mostly :-) ). However, now I live in southern Missouri and my levels have always been in middle of the normal range. Recently this has changed and I finally have a doctor who REALLY listens to me. She dropped my medicine down to the next level since the TSH levels came back sho... Sun, 20 Jan 2013 03:57:38 EST New and Confused. Do I belong here? Hello. I'm in dire need of help! I had doc appt this week which entailed going over 6 month check up and blood work. My TSH came back 6.04 but then my T4(?) was 1.1. He wants to wait another 6 months and check again before doing anything. I decided to see what my. TSH was last year when I was checked due to start of rapid weight gain and it was 3.7. I was told that it was normal. Now what I'm reading is that anything over 3 may not be normal.

After doing some reading I've discovere... I have really enjoyed the many features here and I am currently planning my meals based on what my family eats.. and for the nutrition factor it recommends the ratios as 50% carbs, 30% fats and 20% protien .. so I have been planning towards that goal .. after reading posts here I see alot of people talking about the high protien low carb diet and I have tried that in the past .. lost weight, however gained it back twice as fast .. I am lookin... Sun, 13 Jan 2013 10:58:55 EST was just diagnosed! So, I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I am 24 years old and pretty emotional about this, I am glad that it was figured out but I wish that it could of been spotted before I gained 90lbs! I just started on Armour Thyroid and I honestly think I might be gaining more weight...I dont know. So I guess I am just looking for answers and trying to stay positive about it all. 24 Fri, 11 Jan 2013 20:09:54 EST Now it makes sense! Two years ago I had the most active summer of my life! I had a great workout partner and was frequently doing two-a-days. For the life of me I couldn't understand why I wasn't losing any weight. I was eating enough and getting a lot of sleep. I also blamed my fatigue on my crazy workouts. Then after having a blood draw for RA, I was told I was hypothyroid (and positive for RA factors). Everything made sense. Now I'm on the correct dosage of meds and need to drop about 10-15 pounds to b... Fri, 11 Jan 2013 13:40:00 EST Renewed interest While I joined ages ago, it was just a fad at the time. Thu, 10 Jan 2013 17:21:50 EST New to SparkPeople Hey everyone... I'm a graduate student in psychology with hypothyroidism. I had a lot of trouble getting diagnosed (almost a year) and I'm still not feeling awesome. In high school, I weighed 135 and was maybe a bit too thin for my height, but now I'm at 188lbs, despite eating healthy and exercising as often as a graduate student can. I am now trying Alli to help a bit; haven't had any negative side effects so far.

I like to play tennis and soccer, read, write, play video games, an... Tue, 8 Jan 2013 20:20:19 EST
