SparkPeople Wish I didn't love alcohol Team Messageboard This team is for the people who like to have more than one shot, glass of wine or bottle of beer after work or on the weekend. SparkPeople Wish I didn't love alcohol Team Messageboard I,too, really enjoy alcohol My name is Valerie, I'm 54 years old, and alcohol is my weakness. I rarely drank when I was young and never when I had to work, but now that I'm retired and don't drive a car anymore, I have a difficult time resisting alcohol. I want to lose 40 pounds. I've lost 14 so far in the two months I've been "sparking". I know alcohol is a lot of extra, empty calories which will make it very difficult to lose weight. Last night I really wanted a drink so I went to the "Panic" forum of the message... Thu, 8 Nov 2012 21:44:46 EST Is This Team Still Active? Hi! I just joined today, but there doesn't seem to be much daily activity. Is this still a pretty active team? I hope so, because I could really use a team like this! 304 Mon, 2 Jan 2012 13:03:18 EST Christmas Eve.. what about the alcohol tonight? So I just started thinking about how much alcohol and food there will be tonight in my house... and I'm not even considering controlling my eating or drinking tonight! is that so wrong? 334 Sat, 24 Dec 2011 16:24:32 EST Hello everyone, I am very new to this! Hello,

I have never spoken to anyone online before and more importantly struggle to control my red wine intake. I am hoping that with some like-minded support I will learn some self-control which is why I have signed up to join this team. I eat fairly healthily most of the time however I have problems with portion control and the minute I have a glass of wine all self control goes out of the window. I can rarely drink only one glass of wine and after a few I reach for the savory sn... Mon, 14 Nov 2011 12:48:35 EST Hi everyone! I'm new...sorta. Hi my name is Katie and I've been on SparkPeople for a little over a month now. I've already lost 18 pounds and I feel awesome! I signed up for this group then but haven't really got into the social aspect of the site yet. So here goes! I am 27 and live in PA with my husband and almost 2 year old daughter. I work in marketing research, though I did go to school for my Master's in International Relations and Human Rights...what a change, right?! I've been overweight pretty much my whole life. ... I love my wine! :)

My name is Amy, and I am looking forward to getting to know you all :)

Good luck on your goals! Sat, 4 Jun 2011 06:05:31 EST Looks like I found the right team! Love love love to drink every night...but just can't do it anymore if I want to lose weight. I eat pretty good, go to the gym consistently (even work with a personal trainer) and have actually gained weight this past year. Has to be the 2 or 3 or 4 glasses (ok, the whole bottle) of wine a night! Looking forward to being a part of a team that has the same chalenges I am facing. Mon, 16 May 2011 11:39:29 EST I do love wine. :) I love 2-3 glasses of wine late in the evening, BUT that has caused a lot of weight gain over time. I don't always drink and have gone long periods without, but if I had my way, I would have 2 glasses every night. I need to do 1 or None much more often! 181 Tue, 26 Apr 2011 19:27:33 EST Hi Everyone!! I have been battling my weight since...probably around age 6. and have definitely had moments of success and moments of failure along the way! it's been a while since i have fully committed myself to my health, and my weight has been slowly climbing in the wrong direction. i know that this is a super supportive community, and i also know that i would be about 25% as successful in the weight-loss process were it not for this website! so i am back, and cant wait to really focus on myself and my... Sat, 22 Jan 2011 13:50:21 EST Hello to All Hi Everyone,

I am new to Spark and I was looking for groups that related to me. I openly enjoy drinking alcohol. I enjoy drinks during the week, especially after work. Ever since I moved in with my boyfriend who then became my fiance, we began to share alot of things. One of them being our love of alcohol. We enjoy drinking together. And unlike most that you hear that drink every day -- I do not get unhappy when I drink, quite the opposite! I feel relaxed and enjoy my company. <BR... Fri, 21 Jan 2011 22:46:26 EST New Year's Resolutions? Anyone have any new year's resolutions? Drinking related, of course. I need to get back on my "one wine bottle/week" plan. It worked for me last year, but the holidays and a wedding screwed me. Wed, 5 Jan 2011 18:08:55 EST Hello team! Hello! My name is Lisa and I'm from PA. I have just joined sparkspeople last night and the word "beer" caught my eye for this team. I'm 27 and I whopping 277 pounds, the biggest I've ever been. I hate to even go out with my fiance because I'm embarrassed. I enjoy crafts, reading, and some nice cold bud. Wed, 24 Nov 2010 12:17:37 EST Love my drinks So glad to have found this team. I look forward to relaxing to my spiced rum and diet sodas. BUT.... I KNOW that it is my downfall to my weight. I don't drink everyday, but probably 1/3 to 1/2 the week. My husband has his day off during the week, so we will usually drink then, and of course on my weekends. We love to turn on the radio, start the grill and have our drinks and talk. Plus with having three children, it has definitely become my stress reliever. Not ready to give it up, so I'm so ... I've been working at losing weight and limiting my alchol, for health issues. My love of wine and my inability to stop at one drink a day is creating a "catch-22" for me. Everyone is on my case, I know the consequences, but I still LOVE my wine. I'm learning to hate myself, daily, for all the problems and obstacles it's causing me. Mon, 28 Jun 2010 11:40:18 EST Hi, new team member Hi all, when I joined Spark I knew it had to be a lifestyle change and not just cutting down on the calories. I love going out and socialising with friends, however going out seems to revolve around going to a bar or club. I seem to have a different tipple of different situations in my life out with the girls - vodka or gin, out with my husband - cider, watching the game - peroni and out with my mam and sisters - red wine. I've mellowed a lot since my late teen/early twenty days, but I know... Sat, 19 Jun 2010 06:10:00 EST Hail To Thee Hello, my name is Brandy and I am 23 years old. I'm trying to make a lifestyle change, but alcohol plays a major role. I'm not an alcoholic by any means, but I love hanging out with friends and enjoying a few drinks. I try to stick with what's inexpensive and I mostly drink bud light. I want to make a lifestyle change, but I am not going to change who I am. I'm looking for support and ideas of better nutritional drinks. Thu, 17 Jun 2010 21:15:57 EST Going for no alcohol Sparkstreak Right-I'm going for a no-alcohol sparkstreak. I'm fed up of sabotaging my goals by drinking too much wine so for now i'm going to try and stop. So i'm announcing this because I need to be accountable! Day1 no wine=done! 249 271 Mon, 17 May 2010 17:18:22 EST Another wine lover in the group Hi all! Saw this group and thought I'd join as I feel that wine is my downfall. I stick to my calorie intake and exercise and then blow it all by drinking at night to relax. It's like I'm dieting to drink. So ...hopefully I'll be able to reduce remove this habit.

Lori Sun, 18 Apr 2010 09:59:26 EST 6 days going strong I have gone six days without a drink ladies and gentlemen. I am so proud of myself. I have been working out viorously. I can feel the difference in my body and my mind. I'm less stressed, in a better mood and much more motivated than I was when I was drinking. Its amazing how much clearer my mind is lately. I feel great. Now the weekend is arriving and this is the hardest part. Can I do it? I dont know. Thu, 15 Apr 2010 06:44:41 EST Hello fellow refreshing beverage lovers Hi ya'll! Beer...sure after a few shots...Wine..only if you dont have beer after im done with my shots. Anyways I used to drink everynight or every other night about a half of handle of rum, or Whiskey, or Jagermiester and give it a beer back...maybe a 6 pack. So I would love to say I'm on this diet im not drinking anymore till i loose the weight but I'm going to be honest with myself...thats not going to happen. I enjoy alcohol too much. Wed, 10 Mar 2010 07:14:45 EST Hello from Ohio! Hi gang! I am a 40 year old mother of 3 that has been drinking, in some capacity, since I was in high school. Wine is my vice. I have a son with learning disabilities and I feel it is my reward to have wine every night. I tell myself that this so called reward is what is causing my weight gain, but it doesn't seem to matter. My husband works 2nd shift so I am alone at night. I get bored and I drink. The thought of not having wine in the house throws me into a panic attack. I don't want to com... Fri, 26 Feb 2010 08:56:58 EST How is everyone doing? I have been gone for awhile. I'm not doing so well. I have actually lost a couple pounds, but I cant seem to put the bottle down. I started the full body cleanse by Quicktrim. Its supposed to remove all excess waste and cleanse you liver. It seems to be working quite well. Welcome new members! Sun, 21 Feb 2010 07:52:59 EST where to start? I log what I eat and I am honest about it but I don't know where to start with making changes. I think all the right things in my head but all the wrong stuff still ends up in my mouth. I dont' know how to make the change.

Thu, 11 Feb 2010 21:18:31 EST Sorry Team-Ive been so busy Hey everyone. Welcome new members. I have been insanely busy. I started a new job last week and its been insane. Anyways, Im back. I was wondering how everyone has been doing on their drinking. I am doing better. Im a weekend girl now. Thats a big step for me. Fri, 29 Jan 2010 12:24:36 EST Hi!! This group is perfect. I love a glass of wine with dinner or after a long day. The thing is, I have an incredibly high tolerance and won't get buzzed until the whole bottle is gone, thus I think "I haven't had much- Im not buzzed" and before I know it I have 500 extra calories on dinner. It's also very costly.. but I adore wine, I love cooking with it and drinking it.. also love cooking with and drinking cocktails.. but if I'm going to cut calories I have to cut the booze. Thu, 28 Jan 2010 16:11:58 EST Hi All! this group totally caught my eye I think wine is my biggest obstacle to weight loss. I simply love red wine. It would be a lot easier for me to lose weight if I didn't enjoy it so much! I definitely need to join this group. NIce to meet you all! Mon, 25 Jan 2010 10:04:55 EST Not doing so well I just cant seem to put down the glass or the bottle. What do I do. I already have it in my head that Im going to be drinking this weekend because its the playoffs and I cant watch the game without a beer. Sad. I think Im going to take a class like jazzercise or aerobics a few days a week. Maybe getting out of the house will help. Any suggestions? I keep falling off the wagon. Thu, 14 Jan 2010 09:33:58 EST Stress triggers I have been reading everyones posts. Its seems that stress is one of the most common triggers to drinking. Some of us have more stress than others. I always want to reach for a bottle when Im freaking out or pulling my hair out of my head. I really can never think of anything else that calms me down. I should probably try to work out, but the wine sounds so much better. Fri, 8 Jan 2010 08:20:57 EST Two weeks with no alcohol! Ok guys, Im attempting the impossible. I have vowed to go two whole weeks without one drop of alcohol. I figure that if I am not drinking, I will be able to quit smoking and eating carbs. Alcohol makes your body crave carbs, did you know that? Anyway, I am starting this...well... yesterday. Wish me luck. This will be very difficult for me, being that New Years Eve I wont be drinking. Tue, 29 Dec 2009 08:13:49 EST Excited to be joining! Hey everyone! I'm Izzi and I laughed aloud when I saw this team in the sparkteams list. I always felt like such an alkie whenever I tried to enter my nightly cocktail in the sparknutrition thingie. What's wrong with a manhattan at dinner, or a bottle of wine split with my DH on Friday, (and probably Saturday)?

I just quit smoking 112 days ago, and so I had to give up alcohol around the same time, since I needed every ounce of self-control I possessed those first few months. I... Tue, 29 Dec 2009 07:09:20 EST Best Alcohol choice for losing weight Hi team! I am trying to be very aware of what, and how much alcohol, I am consuming and wondering if anyone could offer up suggestions for what the 'smarter' alcoholic beverage would be to drink for social situations? Thanks so much!! Wed, 23 Dec 2009 13:41:02 EST Today's the day! Hi everyone. Just found out about this site today and I am really impressed. It's exciting to find motivation alongside people with similar interests. VERY happy to find a group who has no desire to give up the wine and beer in order to lose weight! Nice to meet you all! Tue, 22 Dec 2009 21:51:29 EST Joined today! I am so thrilled to have found this site today! I can't believe all the support that is available, what a great thing! I am really happy to have found this site. I am definitely serious about getting into shape, but I also enjoy going out and having some wine at night. I would like to find a healthy balance which allows me to attain my weight goals and indulge here and there. Nice to meet everyone! Tue, 22 Dec 2009 20:10:41 EST A weekend with out alcohol I am going to attempt to go this entire weekend without a drop of alcohol. No wine, no liquor, no beer. This will be a very difficult task for me. I am not 100% sure that it will even happen, Im just attempting it. Is that bad? Tue, 15 Dec 2009 09:49:14 EST Pilates Ball I just thought I would throw this out there. I baught a pilates ball the other day. I now sit on it during work for 7 hours straight. I bounce up and down, and side to side. It works my abs and legs the entire day. If anyone sits at a desk all day, its a great idea. You probably need approval from your boss, but its a thought. I hate sitting for so long. It actually keeps me more energized too. Sun, 13 Dec 2009 10:07:42 EST Hey team We seem to be getting new team members every other day now. This is exciting. I'm glad we all have something in common here. We now have a whopping 42 members, lol. How is everyone doing with their weight loss? I have actually lost almost 20 lbs since March. If I could stop drinking completely, I would probably lose much faster. I dont forsee that happening though. Anyone else doing better or worse? I'm just curious. Sun, 13 Dec 2009 10:04:08 EST I like basketball and beer. Hi, I'm Leslie. New to the group. I joined this one because it seemed a bit more like me than the largest of the alcohol-related groups.

Honestly, I don't have any desire to stop drinking completely. I like it. It's a big part of my lifestyle, friends, family, entertainment, food, etc. It's just everywhere all the time and I'm totally fine with it.

I don't mind cutting back. I actually only drink about once a week now. But that's just for lack of money. Lol. Otherwise,... Wed, 9 Dec 2009 19:47:18 EST I have been slacking I have been slacking so bad lately. What's up with dieting? Why do we get on a health kick for a few weeks and then plummet into total reckless eating and drinking? I dont deprive myself or anything, I just loose my will power every now and then. How do we maintain? I feel so lazy sometimes. I drink beer or wine and the next day I feel hungrier than I normally would. It makes me want to eat junk food the next day. WTF! Tue, 24 Nov 2009 09:56:54 EST Hi! New to the group I'm Robin. And I love red wine!! A little too much, to be quite honest. I had finally got my weight to a place where I was very happy; it took a long long time, but I did it. Only to get careless and party hard all summer and to gain about 15 pounds back. At first I was really mad at myself, especially because I couldn't fit into my clothes anymore. But I've decided to stop the pity party and get back on the horse. This time I'm doing it right: seeking support, dealing with my emotions, and m... Thu, 19 Nov 2009 00:08:38 EST Another Newbie here Hello all. New to this forum. I will give you all a little intro.
I live in Ohio, married, 2 dogs and 3 cats, 55 years young. I work part time in the computer field.
Love my wine and know it is making losing weight that much harder. I do just fine for a while but stress tends to get to me and back I go.
So that is me and glad to be here at Spark.
Dianne Wed, 18 Nov 2009 18:31:29 EST New Team Members! Yay Hey guys. This is really cool. We have a few new team members the past couple weeks. I hope we can all get to know each other and give each other support. Dont be afraid to talk about anything in this forum. I am an open book and I would like to help anyone with anything I can. I fall off the wagon a lot, with food and alcohol, so we all need to come together in this journey. 33 Thu, 22 Oct 2009 17:15:34 EST Hello my name is "can't get a grip" I gave up meat. I quit smoking. But for some very frustrating reason, I have a hell of a time keeping a reign on my alcohol intake. I actually do very well on the week days. By Thursday, I'm confident that I'm going to spend my weekend studying, getting some good sleep, and running. But then, magically, at 5 o'clock on Friday, it all goes right out the window and I find myself indulging (and later, regretting) yet again.
This past weekend was particularly bad. I went out to a blues club... Mon, 19 Oct 2009 21:28:07 EST Falling off the wagon I fell off the wagon a few days ago. I ordered a pizza and I drank almost 10 beers. I'm kinda mad at myself. I feel like I'm depriving myself of all the good food and drinks that everyone else is indulging in. It makes me mad how some people can eat and drink how ever much they want and never gain a pound. Why do we have to work so damn hard? I just eat good food, drink good wine, have fun and be merry. Some times I get sick of working out and eating healthy. I need some inspiration. Anyone h... Sat, 10 Oct 2009 09:18:31 EST Another 2 lbs Yay. I did it. I lost another two pounds over the last week and a half. I have been walking with my daughter on my shoulders and weights on my feet. This is a good technique. 9 Mon, 21 Sep 2009 19:18:08 EST Visualize the success! Visualize the success.
In order not to quit the diet, think about what is waiting for you when you reach your goal. Think how well you will feel, how others will admire you, how you will improve your health, what smaller size clothes you’ll be able to shop for. Mon, 14 Sep 2009 17:41:15 EST Team Goal Did anyone notice the new team goal that I posted a few days ago? If you didnt, no big deal. I just purposed that all of us walk or exercise for at least 30 minutes per day. I would like to do more, but sometimes with school, work, and kids its not possible. It helps though. 9 Mon, 14 Sep 2009 17:30:57 EST I think this team is just what I am looking for Hi - I am new to the team and have just browsed through some of your posts. I am a wine lover. I like the taste of wine, and I like the ambiance that it implies. I enjoy learning about different wines and where the grapes are grown. The problem for me is that I have a hard time limiting my wine intake.
I know that too much alcohol is bad for the body and the mind. So I decided to test myself and see if I could cut down. Why not just take it easy and go with the flow. I have only cut back on my alcohol intake. I lost 18 lbs in the past 6 months. Its hard, but why... I have just turned 40 and never had a weight problem until i turned 37/38! I think the main problem was stopping running and regular exercise however i also think my love of full bodied rich red wine has played a big part. I love it. i started drinking after a stressful day at work when i changed my job and it snowballed and i found myself having a couple of glasses every night with dinner. i have tried hard to cut this down and am starting to do well. ... Sun, 23 Aug 2009 14:06:48 EST New to Group Ahh finally a group I can fit into! I am 28years old and the reason I gain/loose is due to my drinks. I love to have a good time with friends, and being social. My boyfriend and I own our house, no children just two dogs. Tue, 9 Jun 2009 15:40:52 EST New wine-oh to the group I LOVE wine and everything that goes with it. The ambiance, the glasses, the color, taste and the people that drink wine. Not like the old wineo's used to be, drinking Burgandy from a gallon jug and plastic cups.. There seems to be a certain status with drinking wine, like candles and music, until you drink too much and act like a crazy person.
Cheers everybody 190 Tue, 9 Jun 2009 15:37:22 EST i have a similar problem... I love to drink wine on the weekends, but I cant seem to have just a few glasses. I drink half the box usually. 33 Mon, 20 Apr 2009 09:37:36 EST
