Fri, 30 Mar 2012 09:04:05 EST DVD recommendations Not for me, I go to classes, but my friend is just starting out and was asking me what Spinning DVD's are good out there that she can try out. Got any ideas?

Thank you. 324 Tue, 20 Mar 2012 11:56:34 EST Hello! Another new spinner! Hi everyone!

My name is Carly and I have tried several unsuccessful times to get into a workout routine where I can shed these pesky 20 lbs I have gained in the last year that I do not want anymore (I'm 147 and would eat my shoe if I could be 130 again). I figured that since I love to bike, I would try this spin thing that I heard so much about. My first class was at 6:15 this morning and despite the fact I had a very hard time getting up, I LOVED it! My bum was SO sore but it got ... Mon, 12 Mar 2012 22:30:48 EST First Day of your week??? I know I've seen this somewhere, but don't remember where... How do you change the start day of your week? I want my first day of the week to be Tuesday instead of Sunday. Fri, 2 Mar 2012 10:58:30 EST What am I doing wrong? Hi all. I am new to spinning so bare with me!

In one of my classes, we did interval training (LOVED this), but I had difficulty with one particular portion. We were on hand position 2, just hovering over the seat, and pedaling very fast. This is very hard to explain, but when I am trying to sprint in this position, I feel my body popping upwards as I pedal and I cannot keep up speed. My upper body seems very unstable. I see other people speeding so crazy fast and keeping their tors... Fri, 24 Feb 2012 00:27:53 EST New Spinner! Hello all. My name is Kelly.
I've just recently joined a gym and started spinning classes. So far I have done three classes and I love it!
Hoping to become well conditioning in the sport! Fri, 24 Feb 2012 00:24:19 EST Hi I am new Hi my name is Eddie I am married with 4 kids under the age of 5. I run half marathons and was looking for something to crosstrain with and then I was introduced to ride class and I fell in love. I do spin 2 days a week sometimes 3 and I run 5 days a week. it is a great combination. I also do weight training 3 times a week. Thu, 23 Feb 2012 16:24:05 EST Intervals I am a new spin instructor and I am wondering if anyone has a favorite spin interval routine, I have a couple, that I bounce around between classes, but I am getting tired of them, which could me the class is getting bored with them too. Thanks! Sun, 19 Feb 2012 17:03:07 EST Fitbit, Fuelband, Bodybugg, etc ...question! Hi there,
I would like to get a monitor that tracks calorie burn, not just heart rate. I wear my Polar and I think I would keep wearing it during spin class, but I'd like to have something that monitors me all day. I had a Bodybugg a few years ago and I loved the concept because it really motivated me to keep moving, however it's so bulky and noticeable on your upper arm. I hear great things about the Fitbit, but it doesn't seem like it would work with spinning which is my primary form o... Thu, 16 Feb 2012 12:04:17 EST Spin Bike at Home? Does anybody have a spin bike in their home or have any recommendations for one? I saw that Lance Armstrong one on TV and thought it looked pretty cool. Anyone have any experience with that one in particular? Mon, 13 Feb 2012 20:41:25 EST New to the group! Hi everyone!

I tried spinning for the 1st time in early December and instantly loved it. I needed a change/new challenge after becoming a runner this past summer. I have done three 5k's (Oct, Nov, Dec) and did a personal challenge of running at least one mile everyday from Thanksgiving Day to New Years. I needed some new variety! :) I still like running, but spinning definitely has increased my endurance, I've noticed great physical changes and I love the group setting. I was ... Thu, 19 Jan 2012 12:36:26 EST Hello, Im new here Hello everyone!

I have been struggling with weight loss for sometime now. Over the summer I spent it away from home and I had lost some weight and was able to maintain it off. Once I got back I gained the 15 pounds I had lost with an additional 11. I must say enough is enough. I must get back on track and focus on my well being. I have taken spinning classes before and I absolutely love it. I do plan to getting back to the gym and begin spinning again.

Good luck to eve... Thu, 12 Jan 2012 10:30:15 EST Bike Trainers Good morning fellow team mates! I have been riding my Johhny G Pro Spinner for the last several years and now I am looking for a bike trainer. Have done research on fluid vs. magnetic. Most of what I read pointed me towards the fluid trainers. Anybody have any experience with either one? These things are not cheap and I want the best value. Not necessarily the cheapest, but something smooth and solid.

Thanks in advance!!
Tony 211 Tue, 10 Jan 2012 10:32:34 EST Advice needed: New to Cycleops "spin" bike The short story is... I have been doing Spin classes 3-5 times a week for about a year. I've always been on a Spin brand or a LeMond brand bike.

My employer added spin classes at work, and I signed up with some co-workers to basically see a different class, etc

Okay. Sun, 1 Jan 2012 13:37:10 EST Love spinning! I discovered spinning this summer and have been doing it 2 to 3 times a week. It's really the only form of exercise that I've stuck with; I get bored easily with exercise and lose interest, but spinning has enough variety to keep me interested :) Fri, 30 Dec 2011 17:16:53 EST Question Les Mills RPM or road drills/ all terrain I take spinning at Goodlife fitness here in Canada and they do Les Mills RPM classes as well as all terrain/ road drills classes. RPM is the same thing pretty much very version, only thing that really changes it the music. Road drills or all terrain is always different depending on the instructor. A road drills class tries to mimic actual road riding. So you might be climbing for 10 mins with a race down hill, a section of flats, then climbing again. Or you could go out on a route for half t... Fri, 30 Dec 2011 08:26:38 EST Music to spin to! Sun, 25 Sep 2011 05:45:09 EST New to Spinning A few days ago I went with a friend to my first spinning class. The class showed me how out of shape I was; but I made it through!! This workout was so much more fun to me than my old routine. I think one of the best perks is that the class is only 45 minutes and it burns a lot of calories... and I felt GREAT afterwards! So today I went to another class.... and again I was completely satisfied with it. I'm excited to make this a part of my routine and can't wait to see the results:) Mon, 19 Sep 2011 22:09:07 EST Am I the only one or.... does anyone else favor one leg more than the other during spinning? For years I've wanted to do this but the videos scared me. Thu, 11 Aug 2011 01:56:44 EST I LOVE Spinning...... Prior to the birth of my third child, I used to be a runner. One of the reasons I liked running was the mindless, me-time that allowed me to think of whatever I wanted to think about plus the release of endorphins made me feel good. After having three kids in a 4 year period and working, I stopped running, started gaining weight. I had forgot why I enjoyed running. Now I have found that I can get the same benefits from spinning class. I love the mindless, me-time that allows me to think of wh... Mon, 11 Jul 2011 14:44:35 EST New to the team Hi! I'm curious to know if anyone else has ever done a spinning endurance ride and if so what are your though... Tue, 28 Jun 2011 21:28:53 EST Calories Burned I have read and heard that you can burn up to 1,000 calories in a one-hour spin class, however when I enter my one-hour spin classes on Spark it only gives me credit for 429 calories. Mon, 20 Jun 2011 21:52:21 EST Heart Rate During Spinning When I spin, my heart rate has reached 202 bpm during intense climbs - mainly when I am standing and doing jumps. It freaks me out to see my heart rate so high but I otherwise feel ok. My heart rate was around 196 or so for a lot of the class when I started and now it stays around 192 so I guess I am seeing some improvement.

I am wondering if I should slow down a bit and keep my heart rate in a certain range to optimize fat burn or if it is ok to stay where I am at. I was reading alot about the spinning shoes being better in general for the class. I am going to look at a bike shop tomorrow (monday). I have read alot about Pearl Izumi and Shimano..has anyone heard about the LG brand? Louis Gradnue (sorry i know it's spelled incorrectly). Which shoe is best?
I did read the LG is a little more flexible and I don't think that is what I'm looking for. I just attended my first spinning class last week and I am hooked. It was really hard at first but then I just started to focus on my breathing and on one spot in the room and the workout just flew by. I was also drenched in sweat and I think I might need to bring 2 bottles of water next time! I left feeling awesome and burned 900 calories as a bonus! I'm so excited to be a part of this team and can't wait to keep going to spinning classes! Sun, 6 Mar 2011 23:27:48 EST Hi I started spinning the beginning of the year and I haven't been able to stop. I'm very excited to have joined this team! 334

Sorry for posting this here Sat, 5 Mar 2011 07:13:32 EST Spinning Classes Hi there

If you are doing everything else right, i.e. watching calories, ST.....Just curious as to how many classes you have to attend to get good results?

Sunshine Thu, 3 Mar 2011 07:05:50 EST Hey there! I am new to this team. I fell in love with spin about 3 years ago. I stopped after I had my second child and am back in it! I love it. It's the best thing that ever happened to me. Great to find this team! Tue, 1 Mar 2011 23:29:58 EST spinning and upper body work My spin instructor seems to be wanting to spice things up a bit. He has added weight balls to the spin class, anywhere from 2-8 pounds, and there are five minutes where we do a seated ride as we perform various arm exercises.

I have to admit, I'm a bit of a purist. I want a full-out bike class. I'm curious to know, do you think that these five minutes have much value, in the grand scheme of things? Do they add much to the calorie burn, or are they just a distraction from the c... Sat, 19 Feb 2011 13:30:01 EST ProForm 290 SPX - Knee Pain Does anyone have any suggestions on lowering the saddle for the 2011 ProForm 290 SPX?

I've been taking spin classes for over 3 years now to supplement my running. I have a friend who offered to sell me his CycleOps 200 for a fantastic price, but when I tried it out, the saddle was way too high even on the lowest setting and we couldn't figure out a way to get it any lower. So my darling husband bought me a ProForm SPX 290, which is much smaller than the CycleOps. Unfortunately ... Tue, 15 Feb 2011 23:52:20 EST Hello Hello-- New to this site and excited that I just found this team. I just purchased a spinning bike for christmas and now ready to get back in shape! I had a friend drag me to a spinning class years ago when I was in the Air Force and it just about killed me. I never went back to the class but I would go to the gym and workout on the bike by myself. I really loved it and it was always a great workout for me to do on my own. Now I just have to get my bottom used to the seat! I had totally fo... Mon, 14 Feb 2011 22:41:19 EST Hi everyone! I'm new to spinning but i love love love it! I take spinning classes at my university at least twice a week. The first day was intimidating because everyone else was a regular and i was a newbie of course. I was embarrassed because everyone was already pedaling and I was still trying to fix my seat :) But if you have any advice I would be happy to take any. Fri, 11 Feb 2011 14:51:26 EST spin bike Am looking to purchase a spin bike for home use. Any suggestions as to which brand to look for? I used to do Les Mills RPM a few years ago and fell in love with it then but am not able to locate a dvd of this anywhere either, so any suggestions for something similar to guide me would be great. Is i true that the heavier the flywheel, the smoother? Fri, 11 Feb 2011 13:03:08 EST Maybe a dumb question..... Here it goes.....

If my main goal at this time is to loose weight and not necessarily get stronger/toned legs, is it best to spin at a lower resistance at higher intensity (RPM) or spin at a higher resistance with a maybe a lower RPM? I guess I am equating it to lifting weights - for example maybe lighter weights with more reps would loose arm flab whereas heavier weights benched slower would tone.

Tracy Wed, 9 Feb 2011 13:52:36 EST New to Spinning I used to have a stationary bike and I would ride on it while I watched my evening programs. But since I got rid of it the pounds packed on. I just bought the spin bike from and I can't wait for it to come! I am excited to get back on the bike. I thought I would join the team to make sure I DO get on the bike and then venture into the gym for some classes. I'm so sorry that I did. Once I got back into it, I quickly became addicted to it. I try to spin 4-6 days a week depending on my schedule. I mix it up with kickboxing, zumba and P90x. No...I'm not an instructor--just an avid spinner who has been around for many years. I've been to multiple classes offered and tend toward those that are less "social chat" and more intense and focused.

Today something interesting happened in the early spin class. The instructor finally got fed up with people talking through all his instructions and told the group of talkers to "Quit Talking". The instructor is learning English as a second language, so it sounded more harsh than... Sat, 20 Nov 2010 22:09:49 EST Inner thighs Wouldn't spinning help tone your inner thighs? I started getting into road riding last year when I had to give up running due to an injury. Spinning is my way of getting my "three long rides a week" in over the winter. This is a perfect replacement!
I was wondering if anyone knows how many calories a typical 45 minute class burns.
I seem to really push myself hard during class and walk out drenched in sweat! The calories counter in the fitness tracker seems a bit low. Any thoughts?
Lynda Wed, 27 Oct 2010 10:58:18 EST Shoes? So I'm totally new to spinning... like I haven't even tried it yet! I'm still very scared to try. I normally workout with the elliptical and I take a zumba class twice each week and yoga once each week in addition to strength training. I've been trying to be adventurous and try new classes and so far they have been fun. But spinning just terrifies me. I walk by the spinning room while at the gym and see them just spinning away. I don't have any idea what do or how to do it. I think I'm... Thu, 14 Oct 2010 23:10:26 EST New to Team and to Spinning Hi! While on vacation last week, I tripped and fell driving my knee down onto a concrete parking lot. I don't think there is any permanent damage (I am going to my orthopedic today) but lots of swelling and limited movement. My question for my team mates is: What do other athletes do when they can not ride because of injury? I am going nuts! I lifted weights last night and that helped, but I can't jump on my Johnny G and get into my "zone"! Suggestions??? Tue, 17 Aug 2010 08:56:48 EST Bought a spinning bike, any recommended dvd's?? Just wanted to know if anyone has a favorite spinning dvd they recommend? I do not think I stay on long enough or push myself like I do in class when I ride at home. Thx Fri, 6 Aug 2010 13:55:41 EST Sore lower hips So, I am experiencing pain in my lower hips. My trainer is afraid that it is from multiple spin classes each week. Does anyone have any experience with this? I would hate to have to give up spin classes. Wed, 4 Aug 2010 11:04:42 EST New spin addict in Colorado Springs Well, after several months of consistency in my group X classes and weight training, I decided to try a spin class. In hind sight maybe that was a mistake. Now I find myself in the spin studio 4-5 times a week but I LOVE it. AND, it is the one class I can get my husband to take with me. I am also a Body Combat addict but I will leave that for another team.... Sun, 1 Aug 2010 19:39:08 EST New Spin Addict! This is the best workout ever! I am totally hooked! How much it too much? Is three times a week a safe amount of spinning? I don't want to over do it! Sun, 1 Aug 2010 12:11:15 EST Spinning tips?
I have one, hope you all will add your own.

I find that when I concentrate on the pull up, rather than push down when I am Spinning,I am able to pedal MUCH faster.

Also, specialized Spin shoes that clip into your pedal do make a difference, so make the investment!

Sue Thu, 29 Jul 2010 11:58:13 EST songs
What is your very favorite song to Spin to? The one that, when you hear it,
no matter how tired you are you get all jazzed up about it !!

Sue Wed, 28 Jul 2010 06:55:10 EST Spinning DVDS

Any suggestions? My preference is not "too much" talk from the instructor..
can't seem to find that, and I'm not using beginner DVDS...

thanks! Sue Wed, 28 Jul 2010 06:54:15 EST Hello, fellow spinners. I started spinning last week and have done 2 sessions so far. I hope it the best exercise for my arthritic knees. I had meniscus removed in November, and have recovered pretty well after doing months of physical therapy. I am considering buying a good bike and going outside if things work out. Tue, 27 Jul 2010 21:49:08 EST larger thighs - small waist - pants ideas Okay, so now that I love to spin, I can't find pants that don't get pulled down by my muscular thighs. I love that they are turning muscular, it is just that if they fit in the thigh, the waist is so big that I could fit a six pack of water behind me! Any ideas! Sun, 25 Jul 2010 15:28:49 EST Hi, new spinning addict here! Wow! I thought I would enjoy it but had no idea how much! First class I didn't realize how hard I worked until I got ready to leave on my noodley legs! 40 It took a few days for the pain in my quads to subside so I could go back! Next class, just as fun but no soreness. Yay!! Ready to go again but the classes near me are a little pricey. I'm hoping to go once a week on cross-training days.

Sat, 17 Jul 2010 18:15:31 EST Spinning at home I looked back in the Discussion Forums and didn't see this question addressed, so I thought I'd ask. If you spin at home, what bike did you choose and are you happy with it?

My husband and I were avid cyclists until he had heart surgery in February this year. He's gotten the go ahead from his doctor to get back on the bike, but he has some fears that he needs to get past. I thought a spin bike at home would be a good transition for him as it puts him in the same position he use... Thu, 15 Jul 2010 12:50:35 EST New here! Hi,

I am new to the group. I started spinning in February three weeks after I had my third child. I love it! I started with twice a week and now do it four times a week. I am addicted!!

Looking forward to joining you all.

Ali Wed, 14 Jul 2010 13:55:46 EST Do I need an intervention?? Hello everyone, I am new to Sparkpeople and I just started spinning. I think that I am addicted. It gives you such a feeling of accomplishment when the class is over. I took 5 classes this week. I am not sure if there are guidelines on how often you should spin. Is it ok to do it as often as you like? Fri, 9 Jul 2010 22:45:08 EST Hook, line and sinker! Hi, I'm Audrey. I have 2 girls and gained a lot of weight with both pregnancies. I've lost 20 lbs so far (60 total pounds - 20 since I've started exercising again) and I'm going for more! What better way to burn calories than spinning?!? I've been addicted to spinning since 2007 - especially after discovering those awesome padded-butt shorts! I'm looking to take my "spin" outdoors and start cycling, but in Houston's heat, it just doesn't seem as much fun. It's nice to see that this team's mem... Fri, 9 Jul 2010 15:41:38 EST Naples, FL Hi everyone! My wife just got me on Sparkpeople and I'm loving it. We have been spinning together for about a month and it's become addicting. I messed up my knee in high school and again in college, so Spinning definitely gives me the "runners high" without the impact on my legs. I've always been told that running is the best workout in the world, so I'm hoping spinning will prove that to be wrong. Good luck to everyone! Tue, 6 Jul 2010 20:07:46 EST Motivated! I am a mother of 3 children...18 yr, 13yr. & a 9 yr. old. I am happily married for 15 yrs this past June. My husband & I work as a team & keep each other motivated & positive on our journey to weight loss. Our children keep us busy with sports & dance classes. I have a daycare business that also keeps us both busy all the time. I love my life, family & friends. My goal is to become healthier for me, my kids & husband. I want to live a long fabulous life! Tue, 6 Jul 2010 17:19:37 EST bottom question So I have been spinning for a while and there seems to be a great debate in one area.

Everyone agrees that spinning can be a pain in the bottom. Even those of us who still have padding on our butts can still come away from a class with a sore one.

So my question is do you just learn to live with it?

Get a gel seat?

Go for the padded bike shorts?

What is your advise? and why

Thu, 1 Jul 2010 18:03:55 EST Cramps Over the past couple months I have really gotten into spinning and absolutely love it, but my problem is that sometimes I get terrible cramps in my foot!

Does this happen to anyone else?

I've gotten to the point where Im nervous to go to class because I dont want to get one of those muscle cramps in class and have to stop in the middle of class. So far, my flare ups have been immediately after class but Ive noticed my foot tense during class, which leads me to believe... Thu, 24 Jun 2010 12:42:20 EST newbie here.... Hi all! I started spinning about a month and a half ago and was instantly hooked. I always liked to ride my bike and thought it would be a good fit and was right on the money. I was so jazzed about riding that I have also gotten the family outfitted for bike riding and we have been getting out as the weather permits. Pulling an extra 80 lbs of baby around in the trailer is a good workout in itself. Wed, 23 Jun 2010 16:02:47 EST How do you get yourself spinning when the temp is 103? I had a really hard time this morning. The temp wasn't has high but the room was so hot. Last week I almost threw up. I'm just curious how do you guys make it work. I know to drink water and pace myself but other than that my energy is slow. Mon, 21 Jun 2010 19:17:13 EST Does anyone spin at home? Hi, I am in a monthly spinning club with, where I receive a different video every month... I recently received a dup of one workout and the other one, I don't care for... the two workouts are:

1.) Ride on - Endurance Energy Zone (great music)
2.) Los Vegas Ride

If anyone is interested I can mail it out this weekend...

~ Dee ~ Wed, 16 Jun 2010 23:13:42 EST Hi I'm Suzi B123 I just did my first Spin workout in a long time. I have my own spin bike and about 6 DVDs.I really like Louise Hernandez Spin & Burn. I got my Heart Rate up to 133. I felt GREAT all that sweat! I did 10 miles in 40 minutes. I think I've been needing something more and getting back on the bike is it! 332 I'm so glad I found this group. 2x a week 224 Wed, 16 Jun 2010 18:50:35 EST Hi!!! I have been lurking here for a bit, so I decided to finally post.

I am Veronica. I used to Spinning back in 2004 and just got back into it about a month ago. I LOVE it!!! I take 5 to 6 classes a week at a local female-only gym. I use a gel seat and about two weeks ago, I bought my first pair of Spinning shoes.

Wishing everyone here success!! 104 Wed, 16 Jun 2010 12:29:27 EST Hello from KS! Hello everyone! I had been wanting to take a spin class for a while and today I finally took it! It was tough. I never knew that standing up on the bikes could be so tough. Just had a quick ? I felt the seat was a little uncomfortable and now I'm sore from seating on the bike. Is there anything I can do to make the seat feel more comfortable. Tue, 15 Jun 2010 18:47:09 EST A day of firsts Hi Y'all.... like Jazz's topic, I, too, started my first class today. I actually did this about 7 mos ago for about 1 wk. The pain was excruciating. My crotch was tortured for sure. BUT I loved the class and I am going to go through with this this time. Looking forward to melting away at least 1/2 of me. Looking forward to getting to know y'all on the site. I live in Georgia and it is hot as **** here! Certainly glad the class is inside and not out. Tue, 15 Jun 2010 16:43:29 EST First dayof spinning class Hi, my name is Jaz, today was my first Spinning class, actually it was my first fitness class ever. I enjoyed it and I decided to look for a Sparkteam, related to Spinning. I am looking forward to my next class. Thanks for letting me be a part of this team. Sat, 12 Jun 2010 21:31:22 EST Those of you using weights... tell me what your routine entails. Right now I'm using machines & was doing as much weight as possible 3 reps of 10. BUT then I talked to a bodybuilder friend & he said to do it more interval -use the machine only 1 time & lift less weight 20times - go to the next machine -do the same & then go back to the 1st machine & repeat.

I'm curious what info any of y'all have out there... Wed, 9 Jun 2010 23:51:13 EST Recommendations for Spinning Shoes? Do you think Spinning shoes really make a difference and if so, which ones do you recommend? Tue, 8 Jun 2010 09:08:31 EST Hello Very, very new to spinning. I have only taken 2 classes so far and find that it is a love/hate relationship so far. I hate making myself go to classes but LOVE when I finish a class. I am very tall and have quite alot to loose but I think I found something I want to stick with. My question to all of you experienced spinners is why does my butt still feel numb after taking my class last night? The instructor told us to take motrin and keep coming back and it would get better. Wish me luck. Sat, 5 Jun 2010 20:41:44 EST I asked my doc about spinning and she highly suggested using padded shorts or a gel seat. She said lots of bikers get ugly cysts (they had some fancy name).

Ironically I went in 'cause I had a cyst (NOT from spinning -since it showed up prior to spinning) my cyst was most likely from the extra sweating I've been doing while exercising.

I now know how painful cysts are (especially to get it drained!) - I left her office & went straight to the store & bought a gel seat. Not worth the pain for me. ... Fri, 28 May 2010 00:14:01 EST Hello everyone! I am fairly new to spin. I have been spinning for about a month and I am hooked. I love it. I am actually about to leave for class now. It is something that I think I will be able to stick with. I am so happy that I found it and had the courage to try it. Mon, 24 May 2010 08:49:36 EST Never done spinning before... Okay, so I joined a local gym this morning and will be going back in a bit to try it out. There is a spin class tonight and I'm debating on whether or not to try it yet. This will be my first time using the gym and maybe trying a spin class. I've never done spinning. Only watched it on youtube. Do ya'll think I should just go for it or observe first and try it next time? Mon, 17 May 2010 15:59:06 EST New with VERY sore quads! I took my 1st spin class last Monday, I LOVED IT! It was so much fun, exciting and felt so worked out and energetic afterwards! Now the down side of my quads killed me! I have been exercising regularly for several months now and NEVER had this kind of pain! I just finished a 5K program and did my first 5K but this totally kicked my tail! I could only walk for exercise afterwards and wasn't able to do my run until Thursday, then it made the pain come back! I only did a 3... Mon, 17 May 2010 14:30:36 EST New - Love to Spin. Hi -
I'm new to the SP and the team. I just bought a Spinner Velo for the home and I love, love, love it.
Much better than my treadmill and I can spin anytime I want. I use a HRM to manage my workout and either use Spin videos or free spin. It takes the pressure off my joints and gives me a runners high! Tue, 11 May 2010 17:00:22 EST The Basics of Spin Hey everybody :)
I just started my sixth week of spinning (approximately 3x/week), and much like everybody in this team forum, I am hooked. What a great and challenging cardio workout!

Anyways, so if I'm spinning 3x/week and this is my sixth week, then I'm somewhere in between the 15 classes range. Much like other cardio exercise classes (aka step), there's a lot of lingo and basics that aren't blatantly taught to newbies like myself.

I've picked up a lot from watc... Sat, 8 May 2010 22:37:47 EST Getting Started I'm very new to online communities and not very comfortable yet posting. I turned 50 this year and would like to not look or feel like it. I need to loose about 15 pounds. I have a 13 months old granddaughter who keeps me laughing and loving. I definitely don't want to be a "granny" but a "Mimi" to her. Sat, 8 May 2010 09:01:46 EST New in Dallas started taking spin classes about a month ago and really enjoy the workout, much better than doing cardio on my own with better results! Sun, 2 May 2010 17:03:52 EST HI Hi, my name is Sarah. I've been spinning since February and absolutely love it!!!! I'm glad to be a part of this team and looking forward to meeting new people. Fri, 30 Apr 2010 14:24:37 EST Hi Everyone! Just joined a few days ago and am excited to say I'm going to buy my 1st spinning bike. After years of spinning, I got certified in Huntington Beach, CA. Had the tremendous pleasure of meeting and riding with Johnny G in one of our yearly spinning marathons that was held to raise $$ for Special Olympics. It'll be absolutely wonderful to have access to one rain or shine right at home.

It is one of the best exercises I can think of, somewhere between church and dancing (depending o... Thu, 29 Apr 2010 23:44:12 EST New to Spin and This Team Hi everyone my name is Kim and I live in Maryland and I am new to spinning. My neighbor asked to go with her to a spin class at gym across the street from us and I have been hooked every since. That class gives an amazing workout. So now I have incorporated 3 spin classes into my workout schedule. I am currently on a mission to buy spin shoes. At first I thought it was ridiculous that people wear spin shoes for this class. After taking the class for a few times now, I totally understand... Wed, 28 Apr 2010 23:10:50 EST Spinning Audio/MP3's?? Does anyone know of some good 'instructional' audio for spinning? I use the bikes at the gym - so I cant just pop in a DVD to follow along with. I try to make up my own routines, but sometimes I just need someone yelling in my ear to get my butt movin'! :o)

Any podcasts or MP3s that I can DL on itunes and play would be great! I go spinning once a week, would like to do more but the classes are pretty restricted time wise at the leisure centre I use. I started not far of 2 years ago now and love it. We also have spinning bikes in the gym, so when I'm in there I do 20 mins on the bike using my music to set the pace for me, so I suppose you could say that I actually spin three times a week - but only one of them is a class. Wed, 28 Apr 2010 04:22:29 EST Spinning in Idaho! Hello!

I just stumbled on this group & it looks great. Sat, 20 Mar 2010 14:18:55 EST Spinning certification Do any of you teach? I have two gyms in town. One has great teachers but I HATE the gym. The only thing I go to is classes. The other gym is wonderful and beautiful, but the instructors are lousy. No technique, they just want you to feel the burn. I watch them with their knees flopping around and boot camp style that doesn't encourage me and all I think through the whole class is "I should be teaching". I should be getting paid (or at least a free membership) instead of paying for this... Wed, 24 Feb 2010 13:29:10 EST love to spin 4 days a week hey everyone! im new to the group and am thrilled to have found you! i love spinning and spin 4 days a week! great workout and great atmosphere! Mon, 22 Feb 2010 13:00:24 EST Small Stature and Load Question Hi! I have been taking spinning for about 3 years. This last Sunday during class there was a substitute instructor. He mentioned that when he says "add a quarter turn of resistence" that if a person is not as conditioned or of small stature they can add less. My question is why would small stature impact it. I am only 5'2" but I do not feel like my height impacts my ability to keep up with anyone else in the class. Maybe someone can explain the reasoning/science behind this. Thanks!! <... Mon, 22 Feb 2010 10:37:06 EST OT- Opinion if an instructor is too easy? I'm gonna tuck this question on this forum since some of you might have experience with this. I read you can burn up to 1,000 calories per hour doing an hour of zumba. How????? I've been doing it for 5 months with the same instructor and my heart rate monitor would never register me over 300 max. Last month I took the same class at two different branches. One was probably 50% more cardio-intense and the next class ... OH MAMA! There wasn't a dry t-shirt in the house at the halfway point... Wed, 17 Feb 2010 22:55:23 EST bouncing and technical questions 1. If you are bouncing when doing speed work, does this mean you need to slow down even though you can keep that cadence or add resistance so you can't possibly spin so fast?

2. What is causing the bouncing, other than the junk in my trunk? Is it weaker abs?

3. Is there a benefit to having the handle bars about the height of your hips so you are bent over like a cyclist, as opposed to several inches higher like a kid's bike? Is either way better/worse for your body... Sat, 13 Feb 2010 02:02:42 EST How many calories do you burn? I am sure many wear heart rate monitors and are able to track calories burned during each spin class. How many calories do you burn on average each class? I have heard some people burn 700+. I burn 425-475 and I am working hard. Give me your thoughts. Fri, 12 Feb 2010 07:42:08 EST A couple of questions Hello ,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the proper body positioning on a spin cycle and what to look out for , in particular where the seat should be in relation to the body..
also where I would find a workout to follow for spinning ?

I see people talk about shoes , and that they clip on to the pedals , could someone explain as I really don't have a clue ?

any other tips , advice , links to info would be most welcome

thank you
a... Tue, 9 Feb 2010 09:11:50 EST Spinning Shoes Hey folks,
I know this has been asked before, but can someone give me the low down on spinning shoes/pedals. I have read that the people that have them swear by them. How about some recommendations. I have done web searches and found shoes anywhere from $69.00 up to a couple of hundred dollars. And then the pedals that you need from $50.00 to well over $300.00!!! I only paid $500.00 for my Johnny G! Thanks and happy spinning! Mon, 8 Feb 2010 16:26:50 EST Fitness on the road. I got laid off several months ago and recently got a call to work as a contractor for a very large company 130 miles from home. I am not going to drive 2 hours each way for work, but the job is too good to turn down, so I am spending the week days on the Central California coast and come home on the weekends

So the challenge is to keep in shape and not gain weight while on the road. So before I started I checked out gyms and found one to join for 3 or 4 months. The first week I j... Sun, 7 Feb 2010 15:21:57 EST New to the group. Love spinning! Hi, My name is Denise and I am new to this group and to spinning. I just took my 3rd class this morning and I just love it. I think this is just what I need to speed up the weight loss. I weight train and do cardio but this spinning is just kicking my butt!
How long does it take someone to get used the an hour class and keep up the whole time? The instructors I go to seem to do alot of standing riding which is ok but I can not always keep up with the length of time they do it and have... Sat, 6 Feb 2010 17:01:59 EST Hi from Wisconsin! Hi! I'm new to this team and started a spinning class 4 weeks ago. It's just once a week but that was a good way for me to start. I was VERY nervous my first class but I now really enjoy it! It's definitely a drenching experience. I am having issues with my feet getting numb towards the end (it's a 60 minute class), but I do wear padded bike shorts and that helps "soften the blow" on that end. ;) I'm thinking about going to 2 days/week when the next session begins in 2 weeks. It's a chal... Thu, 4 Feb 2010 19:48:28 EST days in a row How many days is too many to spin back to back? I just started back to spin and am weight training as well. I know I need to do other cardio too, but really enjoy spin(the teachers are great too). I am just not sure if 3 days in a row is too much. Wed, 3 Feb 2010 13:50:22 EST New to at-home spinning and have questions! Yesterday I got my new spinning bike delivered and today I put it together, adjusted it, and tested it out for a few minutes after I got done running.

I have a road bike racing background (several years ago, in the early 90's) and of course, I've ridden exercise bikes in the gym, etc. But this is the first time I've tried out a spinning bike.

A set of DVDs came with the bike (I got a good deal on a Spinner Sport bike), but I wanted opinions from the people here as to ot... Does anyone have any fun, creative things I can try that they have used or have seen done?
Thanks! Mon, 25 Jan 2010 00:21:37 EST New!! Hi! I'm going to my first spin class tomorrow! I've already checked out my gym's spin classes...and it looks like I could do this 3 times/wk :D

One question though-- do you have to have spin shoes to spin? And if I don't have them, will it impact my workout at all?? :)

Anyway, wish me luck! ;) Sun, 24 Jan 2010 17:14:31 EST Hello! New here My name is Holly. I've been spinning for a few months. I love it. I'm up to three days a week now. I think I may treat myself to some spin shoes soon since I seem to be hooked. Looking forward to being part of the team. Thu, 21 Jan 2010 22:01:12 EST Ouch So... I'm back on the wagon so to speak with going to spinning class... but I can't get over how fast my toushie went back to hurting from the seat!! At least I know that as long as I keep going it will get better again! 198 Wed, 20 Jan 2010 16:04:30 EST questions I have a couple of questions: I have one instructor that says jumps are out and yet I have others that continue to do them, and one does pop ups which I don't do, so are they a good thing or a thing in the past? Also my average heart rate has been about 162 and I'm wondering where I should keep my heart rate and for how long? (I'm a 55 female) Tue, 19 Jan 2010 21:34:53 EST Just started! Alright ladies...I just started spin class tonight and I LOVE it....yes LOVE it! I had my bootay handed to me but I really enjoyed it! Wish me luck ladies! Mon, 18 Jan 2010 22:54:54 EST Do the olympic games inspire you? As a teacher, I am preparing for the start of the games and I find it motivates me. I know they must set mini goals to achieve their dream and I have set up my own Summer Olympic goals. I hope to be able to bike the path from Xenia to Cincinnati by those games. What's your goal? Mon, 18 Jan 2010 12:31:36 EST New to Spinning and/or indoor biking Hi everyone, my name is Mary. I am planning to start spinning or indoor biking after getting clearance in about 3-4 weeks from my doctor. I am having tendon surgery. I have decided I need to start having more cross training options with my running so I won't be lacking cardio again...I am going nuts.

I am looking for a bike at home. I am looking at either a Spinner bike or Cycle Ops indoor bike. Any opinions on either?? Sun, 17 Jan 2010 10:19:26 EST New spinning fan Hi, my name's Lynea and I'm a freshman in college. I'm trying to avoid the freshman 15 and lose weight, too. My aunt suggested cycling classes and the wellness center on campus offers several. So, this last week, my roomie and I tried it out and we LOVE IT! We're spent this last week taking several classes. Our bums and legs hurt but, hey, it was AWESOME! We plan on going as much as possible. It's the best workout ever and being a part of a class and having an instructor really pushes you to ... Sat, 16 Jan 2010 22:07:57 EST home spinner Hello to everyone!
I'm an at home spinner! I have had my bike for about 9months...but just recently put it to some real work!! I think I tried to start out with too advanced of rides and became discouraged...but I've found my groove...and actually get excited to ride!
Eventually, I'd like to join a class...but for now it works with my school/life/etc. schedule!!! Fri, 15 Jan 2010 08:29:19 EST New with questions! Just took my first spin class.Tough but liked it!
I am wondering about getting a gel seat? spinning shoes? Both worth the investment?
I will ask the instructor about this next question (she is very accessible at the gym but had to go right into another class today) Three times I hit my knee on the bike when "standing" Is that poor technique or did I have the bike adjusted incorrectly? (the instructor helped me adjust so I think it was ok)
Any thoughts appreciated
Thanks ev... Sat, 9 Jan 2010 12:19:01 EST Toddler Spinner! I started spinning last spring, and I love it! Tue, 5 Jan 2010 11:49:40 EST n00b Hi there!

I've been spinning for the past couple months and really ramped it up when I injured my foot. I made a pact with the lady next to me to attend 3 spin classes a week in the mornings. It's a 5:45 AM class! I've not broken the pact yet even though I think she's dropped out from it or forgotten about it. I haven't attended on mornings that I was not in town, but if I am going out of town that day, I will still attend that morning! I'm not sure I'd label myself an "enthusiast...
