Sat, 23 Aug 2014 18:12:59 EST Greetings Hi all,

I am new to the group and have been using Sparkpeople for about a month. March 5th is my 6 year surgiversary and I have been getting worried about my behavior of late. In the last year, I discovered I can tolerate small amounts of sugar and my eating has gotten a little crazy ... to the point that I have gained nearly 20 pounds. My goal is to nip this in the bud and get to my original personal goal for weight loss. Prior to gaining the weight, I had been 10 pounds below... Sat, 25 Jan 2014 17:06:28 EST Hi everyone! Joined SparkPeople about a week ago and just came across you guys. I like that the group is small and that you are trying to revive it so I decided to join. My name is Deanna (Dee) and I live in the St. Louis, Missouri region. I have one son (two if you count my significant other) and he turned 16 back in November. I'm trying to be a good example for him. He's not "fat" by any means but he is overweight and I'm encouraging him to increase his healthier habits. I have already lost a great d... I was significantly overweight, but I didn't think I was big enough to get diabetes. Talk about being dead wrong. I was just over 200 lbs at 5'4" and I never thought I had to worry about it unless I gained a lot more weight or was a lot older. Well I joined SP and got on the diet bandwagon and quickly realized I was losing and gaining the same 15 lbs. So I did something what many... Sun, 22 Jul 2012 06:14:56 EST Hello Post-Op Here!!! Have maintained my weight loss, but am struggling with self-care (vitamins, water, diversity of diet). I found food that "works" and stick to it rarely varying from my staples. I am severely anemic and working towards correcting that - and my diet.

For newbies - (pre and very recently post-op) I want to suggest a site (www... Wed, 14 Dec 2011 19:38:27 EST Howdy! Newb here :) Hi,
I'm new to this team, but not to SP. I have just begun my WLS journey, and even though I get cold feet on occasion, I'm trudging forward. I've been reading everything I can on this site and on RenewedReflections, trying to arm myself with enough knowledge to be certain that this is what I really want to do.

And it is.

Even my cold feet isn't an uncommon step, as many seem to wave off the surgery due to nerves, just to come back years later and follow through.... I am right on target as far as weight loss, she did suggest increasing my calories a little bit. I need to add 3 glasses of skim milk in place of some of my water. I've been walking about 3/4 of a mile and am not huffing and puffing. I still get tired and have to stop for a minute but more post sugery fatigue than out of breath. The knee pain that I have been struggling with is much better but my back is a bit irriated with the walking and I think with even a little weight loss I am standing differently so I'm sure my back is making some adjustments.

My attitude is really... Was there anything that you wished that you had brought with you ?? Tue, 16 Aug 2011 18:17:51 EST One week Pre-Op Hi all,
Well one week from now I should be having my surgery. I can hardly wait, the days seem to be dragging right now.

I reset my goal weight this morning to something not quite so fanciful. I had put down 114 which would be my ideal weight. But after reading about expected percentages of weight loss I've set at more realistic goal of 170 at least for now. I can always change it if I continue to lose weight, but this way I won't drive myself crazy because the goal seems... Thu, 11 Aug 2011 09:27:31 EST Going to the Doctor with Mom tomorrow - questions? Hi,
My Mom has been thinking about WLS for some time. She has been sort of doing her own thing as far as research and so on and not discussing it too much with me and I have been respecting that choice and not getting too involved, because she's an adult and I want to respect her decisions and so on. Well apparently she is getting a bit frustrated with all the choices and information and she has asked me to help and to attend a doctor's appointment with her tomorrow. It is very early ... Of course I am going to call my doctor tomorrow about this and see what they can offer. I woul... Thu, 24 Apr 2008 21:19:50 EST Introducing me Hello. I am Neva from Boise Idaho. Fri, 18 Apr 2008 12:52:50 EST Things that come up while you're waiting So, I recently got my surgery scheduled for June 9th. Thursday morning, I woke up with terrible pain on my right side, but I figured it was gas or something and I went on to school. My planning period is the last class period of the day, and by that time I was ready to cry. I ended up leaving early. I still thought it was probably gas or something like that.

To make a long story short, I ended up spending yesterday in the ER. I found out that I have a grapefruit sized cyst s... I've been pre-op for almost a year now, struggling to lose the 10% required to have the surgery. Before the holidays I was doing ok on Weight Watchers and then hit New Years day and crashed. I feel overwhelmed and very pressured. Not like I haven't yo-yo'd up and down before so I know I can do it but it's different this time for me, and much harder to stay focused. Did anyone else feel this way before surgery? Nice to be here where others can understand me (maybe). :-... Tue, 26 Feb 2008 02:53:58 EST Hello My name is Valerie. I’m brand new to Spark but like it a lot so far!

I had laparoscopic RNY on 10/22/07 at 550 pounds. Since I can’t be weighed on regular scales, my last weigh in was on 12/3 and I had lost 76 pounds.

It’s been really difficult these last few months. Probably because my starting weight was so high. I joined Spark in order to (hopefully) track and up my protein and water intakes. While we were there we went to the Great Steak and Potato for lunch. I had a "Super steak" in a bowl. It's just sliced steak, a slice of provolone cheese and some veggies. I emailed them for the nutrition information and was shocked. 55 grams of fat and over 600 calories! Just for about 4 oz of food?!?!

I need to have a gameplan for when we end up at places like this and I have to eat something. Any ideas? Mon, 8 Oct 2007 11:11:52 EST which method??? Please forgive me if this is a repeat topic. I'm still learning to navigate the site and since it's really late I'm disinclined to look for archives if there are any. :-)

My question is this. Which method of wls surgery did you choose and why? I've settled on the Lap Band but I'm reading on the VSG and I'm curious who has what and their take on and satisfaction with their chosen method. Almost a year ago, I started thinking about having a gastric bypass. Eight Months ago, I decided to attend the monthly seminar that the Rau's have to find ... Wed, 15 Nov 2006 21:41:51 EST Tried and True Products I thought a thread about low carb or high protein or whatever products we've tried would be interesting and helpful. Or websites to buy products! So here we go . . .

I bought some almond flour and Nature Sweet Crystals from, and made some light banana bread yesterday. I am down from a size 24 jeans to a 4 and maintaining for the past year. I love SP and all the networking we can do with eachother since I don't go to group anymore. It is only for newbies in my area. There really is nothing for those farther out.

Looking forward to chatting.

Lori 30 Tue, 7 Nov 2006 11:43:42 EST any bandsters? I am 2 weeks out and my back has been driving me crazy. I think that once I can start doing yoga and stretching it may help but who knows? Other than that, I'm doing well. Any ideas on this? Thu, 28 Sep 2006 13:29:10 EST What do you do to break a stall ? I think I have stayed at 230 for about a month. Ugh! It is not fun getting old. I was miserable with my excess weight! At my highest I weighed 266 lbs. I had to go out on Disbality in 1998 because of bad arthiritis. I had one knee replaced in 2002 and the other in 2003. Yes I could get around better BUT I just liked to eat. Diets worked BUT I could not stick to them. So in December of last year, I had had it! I did something I said I would never ... Mon, 4 Sep 2006 13:21:45 EST Hi new to this team Hope its ok to join here. I saw this team on a friends SparkPage.
