SparkPeople Spark Of Beaverton Team Messageboard This is a group to support the citizens of Beaverton, OR who are interested in making changes for a happy life. SparkPeople Spark Of Beaverton Team Messageboard Nice Rice nutrition? Does anyone have nutrition information for Nice Rice? Mon, 9 Dec 2013 15:07:59 EST I don't think there will be new members... ...because I don't think people can browse to find this group anymore. It looks like big changes are coming to SparkPeople. If you try to look for groups by geographical region, as soon as you hit the state level, instead of a list of groups or areas, you get a splash screen. In part, it says:

"This fall, SparkPeople will launch the new-and-improved
Trust us, it's going to be worth the wait (more fun, easier to use, just plain better). But a lot of old stuff from the last version of the site. Do you guys think we should start a new Team for Beaverton or just waddle through the old and hope more people come out of the shadows? Hi! My name is Debbie and I am a mom of two young boys. I have been holding on to 25lbs for the last three years since my youngest son was born. I have finally decided it is time to do something and get moving!
We have recently moved to Beaverton and I would love to meet others that have similar goals as I do, to workout with or just get support!
Tue, 18 Jan 2011 23:15:36 EST Back in the Saddle Hey everyone,

I was excited to find such a local group on SparkPeople! I’ve lived in Oregon most of my 28 years and love just about everything it has to offer—aside from how the winter weather limits my workout choices, of course. I’d like to be able to exercise outside but as I type the rain pours down and I know there’s no way it will be light enough to do so on my own once I’m through with work. Anyway, I’m single, childless and have a full-time, Monday through Friday job (in fr... I love doing classes there, esp. cycle and would love an accountability partner! Tue, 11 Jan 2011 12:55:13 EST New Again I was an active member (ish) of SparkPeople ages ago, then life interfered as it tends to do. Once I started working I didn't seem to have time for it any more and it wasn't until last January that I really started gaining the weight back.
I am social in spurts, then I apparently panic and go into hiding and ignore the world for a while. I need to stop doing this and learn how to branch out and make friends.
I live in Beaverton, near Cedar Hills mall, I work across town, married wit... Sat, 1 Jan 2011 17:00:07 EST On the road again Hi,

My name is Jay and I am a 51 yr old divorced father of 4 (with 2 grand kids) going through some transitions right now. Been overweight most of my life and have tried numerous diets without a ton of success. Had the most success with Atkins, but a move got me off base and back to the old habits.

A divorce 2 years ago and a an attempted suicide by one of my kids was a wake up call that I can't just go through life on auto pilot, so I am slowly taking back ground. Fi... Sat, 11 Dec 2010 15:19:38 EST Group's Roll Call Who's Active in this Group? Thu, 23 Sep 2010 15:35:56 EST Last Post?? It saddens me but I have made the decision to leave this team. I originally picked this team because it is the city I live. There is little to no activity in this group. There seems to be no interest in the members to keep this a viable team.
I belong to some other Oregon teams that seem to be fairly inactive as well. It is to bad that this team could not make a go of it. Good luck to all and I hope you meet your goals as planned.
253 Wed, 23 Jun 2010 12:32:04 EST hi!!! I'm a new team leader, but I'm not sure where to start. I would like to see some action in this group!! Sat, 19 Jun 2010 10:42:19 EST Team Shout-Out: Lets hear from you. A few of us in the team have been trying to revive the group. There is not a lot of activity going on. Maybe some members have dropped out due to lack of interest in the team or SparkPeople?

Sure would like to see more interaction and some suggestions. Thu, 17 Jun 2010 01:56:39 EST What was your turning point? Something causes a person to make a change/epiphany. My turning point was October 3, 2009. I had all the symptoms of a heart attack. I went to emergency, then to the hospital for 3 days and several test later. The consensus was that I did not have a heart attack. A few days later I had an Endoscopy, where they go through the groin main artery and run a camera to your heart, to see if the arteries have any obstructions/damage. The arteries were clear, in fact the doctor says "if he died today ... Wed, 16 Jun 2010 13:19:42 EST What is your favorite exercise? My favorite is the treadmill. I get a instant gratification seeing the number of calories I burn in a short period of time. If I can't do the treadmill due to a hip joint ache I will do the recumbent bike. I will do the weight machines but not my favorite but I also know it is necessary. Tue, 15 Jun 2010 14:55:26 EST Walking groups? Anyone know of any waling groups? I visit some relatives in Lake Havasu each year and they have a regular walking group. It is a lot of fun. Everyone walks at their own pace but generally people find someone with their own pace to walk with. Tue, 15 Jun 2010 10:55:34 EST Workout Inside or Outside? I workout inside at the gym. Have not transitioned to outside since mostly I enjoy the workout machines, treadmill, rowing machine, and weight machines. I am training for a 5K but it is slow with some interruptions of sore hip joint. At the moment the gym is the safest for me to get in shape. Natural terrain is to unpredictable right now. Tue, 15 Jun 2010 10:52:10 EST Lets Beat Portland!! No...Oregon!!! How about a contest? Spark of Beaverton #1!! Sound good? I have been with SparkPeople since January 2010. I have joined several Oregon based teams with hopes of networking with people with like minded goals. However I have noticed the Oregon teams are not as active as it could be on the boards.

With just the minimal amount of effort Beaverton Team could be on top. Any ideas out there on how we could accomplish this? Call out to other people you know? There are currently 65 of us, l... Tue, 15 Jun 2010 10:38:27 EST Has Anyone Seen Dance Your Azz Off? Tue, 30 Mar 2010 19:53:08 EST Fitness Tracker Not Listed? I put my post on another thread that may help others in listing an exercise not listed as a choise in the "Pop-Up". A box will pop up and right under the red tab "Favorites" there is another box "Manually Enter Calories Burned" hit that. Mon, 29 Mar 2010 12:06:22 EST Most important :Scale or measuring tape? For some reason I am really attached to the scale. Even though I have read in several articles where the scale may not be the best to show your progress but the tape measurement is a better indicator of real weight loss progress. Even with knowing this I still can't wait for Tuesday morning to step on the scale.
