My mother had it and I think I probably even had some symptoms as a child. Stress plays a big role in my IBS and I am learning how to manage it more effectively. I also have a very strong family history of heart disease. Every member of my family--mother, father, younger brother, younger sister--have died from a heart attack or a blood clot. I've only been "diagnosed" for the last year. About six months ago I started making my own teas with fennel, peppermint, anise, and caraway. They provided some limited relief to discomfort. About a month ago I was introduced to an essential oil blend that has done wonders. I put a couple drops in my water twice a day and the results have been amazing. Here it is if you want to read it:

I was diagnosed with acid reflux in 1995 and put on daily acid reflux medication like Prilosec, Nexium, etc. Everyone in my family was on it. My father had such bad reflux he had to get his esophagus stretched every 6 mos in the 80s... I'll probably lurk a bit before doing much posting since this is still new.

I was just actually diagnosed today, though I've thought it a possibility for a little while. My brother also has it, so I've got a bit of exposure. The good news is it's diagnosed, the bad news is that it's a bit harder to control due to not being positive what sets things off. I have noticed caffeine causing more issues, which truly saddens me because I love die... In terms of IBS until about six months ago I had only the constipation variety, but after taking probiotics for only three days my IBS went into an alternating constipation/diarrhea stage, with neither symptom being very bad. I could easily have eaten half of the sandwich and asked if I could take the other half home, though. Now I've got a miserably full stomach at bedtime. Choices, choices, choices.
