SparkPeople Just turned 30! Team Messageboard For those of us who just turned 30 and want to make positive changes in our lives. SparkPeople Just turned 30! Team Messageboard Weekly Challenge 20-26 April This week's challenge is to write down your goals. Whether that's updating them on sparkpeople, or writing them in a journal or any other form, putting pen to paper (so to speak) is a great way to remind us why we're doing this. Mon, 21 Apr 2014 01:48:40 EST Weekly Challenge 13-19 April This week's challenge is a repeat, but try to replace a snack you normally have with something healthier, like raw carrots, cut up peppers, cottage cheese, etc. Tue, 15 Apr 2014 21:44:12 EST Weekly Challenege 6-12 April This week's challenge is to eat 5 servings of fruit or vegatables a day. Both are critically important to helping us get the vitamins and fiber we need, as well as helping us feel full without all the calories of breads and fats. Sun, 6 Apr 2014 18:16:13 EST 30 March - 5 April Weekly Challenge Posted late, but better late than never!

This week's challenge is to consume at least 8 cups of water per day.

Many of you already do this, but I know I lapse sometimes. Staying hydrated is critical to staying healthy! Tue, 1 Apr 2014 02:01:33 EST Possible Name Change I am considering the potential of changing our team name to something more inclusive. I know most of us joined the team when we had just turned 30 but some are not in that category any more and in order to avoid losing members who like it here but don't feel like they fit the name I'd like to ammend it if you all think it's a good idea.

If you do or don't please let me know. If you'd like to change it I'm welcome to any suggestions!
Mon, 31 Mar 2014 17:49:13 EST Weekly Challenege 23-29 March This week's challenge is to eat a healthy breakfast.

Breakfast is a hugely important part of the day but often the meal most skipped. Eating even before working out can greatly increase metabolism as well as effectiveness of the workout. Additionally, having a breakfast that sticks with you can help prevent mid morning snacking on less healthy items. Sun, 23 Mar 2014 22:37:52 EST Staying Active on the Weekend As we approach another weekend I'm sure I'm not alone with having issues sticking to dieting and staying active.

I'd like to get a brainstorm going of ways people keep themselves active on the weekend.

Some of my favorites are hiking, and SCUBA diving.

Both easily burn more calories than most of my weekly workouts (but take more time) and are considerably more fun. Neither feels like a chore to me and they keep me both active and focused. Thu, 20 Mar 2014 22:08:05 EST New Team Goals! I've added two new team goals to run or walk 3 miles per week and also to drink 8 cups of water per day. Both of these are important to a healthy lifestyle.

Additionally I'd like to know if any of you would like to see other goals added. They can be as custom as you can think of! Tue, 18 Mar 2014 18:05:29 EST Weekly Challenge 16-22 March This week's challenge is to take the stairs. If you live or work on a 2nd or 3rd story, use the stairs unless you're bringing up groceries or something similar. Even going down the stairs helps, but up is much better :).

I live on the 3rd story of our condo building and I will try to use the stairs as much as possible this week. Sun, 16 Mar 2014 18:28:04 EST About your Team Leader Hello Just turned 30 Sparkers!

For those that are new to the group or been around for some time, I want to welcome everyone and let you get to know you. I feel that knowing about your leader may make people more active and feel more included in the group. I want you all to know that I am in similar situations to most of you or have been in the past.

My name is Nick and I turned 30 last year. I will be 31 in May.

I have always been fairly active, but I've be... Sun, 9 Mar 2014 21:16:07 EST New Leader, Looking for ideas I just recently took over the team because the leader has stepped down. I am excited and love the concept of this team.

I think we can make this a great place for people who either graduated from a 20 something group or are new to Spark People and fit this category.

If anyone is interested in being a coleader, or has ideas and wants to be behind the scenes please let me know. Feel free to reply to this discussion or message me privately. I welcome anything, criticism,... Sun, 9 Mar 2014 21:01:27 EST Weekly Challenge 9-15 March Wanting to get this started back up for anyone interested.

This week's challenge is to replace a snack you normally have with something healthy.

My example is to replace my mid-afternoon bag of chips or candy bar with half of a cut up yellow or orange pepper.

I like the yellow, orange and red peppers better than green ones. I cut up 1 yellow, and one orange pepper at the beginning of the week and seperated it into 4 ziplock bags to have a snack for 4 days and... Sun, 9 Mar 2014 20:52:45 EST Low Impact Fitness Team Hello Everyone,

I just created a new team with the goal of working out 5 days a week in a low impact setting for those that cannot or do not want to run. There will be a workout posted for Monday through Friday and hopefully good discussion for cardio options for those with joint problems or issues with running.

Please feel free to join, share the link, or provide feedback :)

s_individual.asp?gid=62590

Mon, 3 Mar 2014 00:16:58 EST Bad Weekends I ate horribly all weekend long. Luckily I am back at work and had a healthy breakfast and packed a healthy lunch. I think weekends at home are my hardest challenge.

Anyone have good tips for not eating junk food or even just unhealthy meals while you're relaxing after a stressful week? Due to a personal crisis I didn't come up with a weekly challenge for this week. I just couldn't focus on this task and I would like to extend my most sincere apologies for this. Try and find something that you could use to challenge yourself. I will do my best to come up with something fun and exciting for next week's challenge blast!
Cheers,
Cindy Sun, 1 Sep 2013 23:44:38 EST New to SparkPeople Hello everyone, I just joined SparkPeople yesterday. I have been given the desire to be fit.

I have been doing Zumba classes since Saturday in June 15th and recently added more days of exercise to my routine. Weigh in and update your goal(s) - This will help us refocus and make sure we have identified something to work towards.

2. Track everything you eat and all your exercise every day. At the end of the day, take a moment to review your Daily Feedback (found on your nutrition page) so you can see what you need to work on and what you have done so well! Sun, 18 Aug 2013 11:40:28 EST New Team Leader Hello Team!

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. Turning 30 next month. Fri, 3 May 2013 13:06:10 EST What goals do you have for your 30s? Setting both shorter term and longer term goals are really important for feeling accomplished and successful. Whether it's a "bucket list" or something more short term, what do you want to accomplish in your 30s? In this year? In this month?

I find that if I go too far out, I can lose track of my goals. Instead, I keep both a short term list of my "Three Overarching Goals" (the three things I want to accomplish in the immediate future), and I also really enjoy the 101 things in 100... Thu, 21 Mar 2013 14:39:52 EST hmmm... I just realized that I want to lose half my body weight. And I gained that in about six years. Sun, 10 Mar 2013 01:05:02 EST New decade, new me!! I AM TIRED!!!

I am tired all the time.

I am tired of feeling fat and gross and seeing my chubby stomach sticking out under my shirt.

I am tired of literally being tired because I don't treat my body well and it (for good reason) doesn't have the energy it should.

I am tired of hanging out with all my skinny healthy friends and being embarrassed standing next to them. Wed, 6 Jun 2012 13:50:55 EST There's no way I'm hitting 30 already! My name is Samatha (that's right, no 'N') and I'm about to turn 30. Not excited, not excited at all. The big day is next Friday. Did I mention how NOT excited I am about it? I know it's silly, 30 is so young still, when it's someone else! But I figured I'd make the best of it and try to start being a little more healthy. Afterall, I want people to keep thinking I'm 25 five years from now, heck, even ten years from now!!!! Happy aging. Thu, 20 Jan 2011 09:30:03 EST Still Getting Used to 30! Hello Team,

When I turned 30 in October I decided that I had to take control of my fitness and my future. I started watching what I eat (again). I also joined an information group, kind of like Weight Watchers at work in October. It was 6 wks and I lost 6 pounds. I was very happy and felt like I could do it on my own. But the holidays came and I didn't gain, but I haven't lost any either.

Now it's a new year. I am committed to training for a 10K in March, and watching wh... Wed, 12 Jan 2011 22:25:39 EST 30!!!!! Hi people! I turned 30 at the end of November. Its time to really lose the weight. Both my kids are in school all day now and it gives me lots of extra time to exercise during the day. I didn't stick with it but now I'm more motivated and also joined a biggest loser contest since competition really helps motivate me!! Mon, 25 Oct 2010 21:07:06 EST Welcoming myself to 30-hood I couldn't think of a better term for being 30, so I have designated being in my 30s as my 30-hood...almost like a second childhood, who am I kidding, I never left my childhood, haha. I am welcoming myself to 30 as I am getting to that daunting age this month. Rather than cry over it, I have decided to continue on in my relentless journey to lose the weight, get healthy, avoid diabetes and heart disease, as well as the BIGGIE--getting over the 12 year long fear of the baithing suit!!! I'm looking to start the school year off right though (I teach 7th grade reading), so I want to get back into the right mindset to be healthy. Wed, 25 Aug 2010 13:07:35 EST In about 7 months I'll be 30 in about 7 months. I've been on Spark for a while, but I will be motivated for a few days and slack off. I have now worked out for the past 2 weeks straight! I hope to keep it going.

I'm single and I'm concerned about being 30 cause I feel like I'm in a void. By the time my 30th birthday arrives, I would like to put away my size 13/14 jeans and pull out the size 10s. Wed, 30 Jun 2010 23:38:13 EST Just Turned 30 and Struggling I didn't want to turn 30. Honest. I've been "25" for the last 5 years. And I still want to be 25. Last year, my hubby and I quit smoking, and I have since gained a lot of weight. I resent that we quit and that I started to really like eating. And so, as I tried to get healthier, I got older and gained weight. How unfair is that?

I just started Jillian Micheal's 30 day shred, so hoping for good results. I have 48lbs to lose. Thu, 24 Jun 2010 10:54:36 EST Hello I am turning 30 on Friday. Tue, 18 May 2010 19:30:55 EST anyone else like me out there? I'm trying to figure out what a healthy weight goal for me would be. Mon, 22 Feb 2010 23:37:12 EST 30 is a Week Away So my birthday is next friday, and while 30 seems like a big milestone, it's probably not that big a deal. I think graduating college, getting married and buying a house are probably more life changing. I am just trying to lose the twelve pounds that I have put on in the last year and half (since taking a more sedentary job)and a couple more so I am back to my "fighting weight" of when I graduated high school. I am just looking for a few friends on here to hold me accountable. Fri, 19 Feb 2010 01:56:57 EST New team member... Hi Team!

I can't believe how quickly time flies. I turned 30 last August and thought that I would change for the better health/weight-wise by now. Alas, it's been six months and no progress. I have cut out good amount of meat (relatively) out of my diet and eat more homemade food, but that's about it.

Well I have about another 6 months to make the most of my 30th year, so here I am. It feels good to have found this team! Fri, 12 Feb 2010 09:51:55 EST Jumping from 20-somethings to 30-somethings! Hi everyone! I'm working on getting back on track now that the holidays are over. Glad to be part of the team! Fri, 15 Jan 2010 09:23:13 EST New to site and team Hi everyone! I just turned 30 last month and boy has it changed my outlook. Suddenly my eating and fitness habits started to gain importance since I want to be around for my kids a very long time. Both parents passed away from heart attacks so DNA isn't in my favor but I'm determined to turn things around. I look forward to getting to know everyone! Mon, 11 Jan 2010 08:54:49 EST Almost 30 Hello, all. I've been searching for a new team to join and this one seems like a good fit. I've been on Spark since August, but I had a bit of a setback around the holidays. I'm ready to make this a great year.

My birthday is at the end of this month, so I'm not quite 30 yet. I'm not looking forward to "getting old," though.
20

Sat, 9 Jan 2010 10:43:59 EST Rewards that don't cost a lot of $$$$ Hello everyone,
I've been on SparkPeople for a while and seen great results when I stick with it. For January I've been trying to step up my efforts.
Something I've seen some people do is list what rewards they will give themselves when they reach a certain goal--whether weight or workout minutes or something. Unfortunately, one of my other goals is to reduce my debt and fatten my savings in 2010 so I don't want to spend money on rewards.
Any ideas on how to motivate yourself ... Anybody looking for an accountability buddy? Hi Everyone,

So my username is WILLB180 because I will be 180! I've been talking about losing weight for a long time but some reason, I never seem to get past the 3 month stage. I start off losing, making great progress and then I stop. I think part of it is because I mentally haven't prepared for it to take long than 3 mths. I currently weigh 280 and my goal is to lose 100lbs. I'm a former athlete who seriously let themselves go when I went to grad school. I'm a single woman with ... Sat, 21 Nov 2009 13:57:24 EST New to the team and to SparkPeople Hello Everyone. I am new to the team and to sparkpeople. I turned 30 in September and wasn't really all that excited about it. I was actually a little depressed, I am not sure why. Since then I have just learned to ignore the number. I have gradually gained weight over the last 9 years, although the most in the last 3 (since I got married). My husband is also trying to get into better shape but I have to admit that it is easier for him and he really doesn't help me stay motivated. So I am loo... Wed, 18 Nov 2009 20:33:13 EST Hi! Hi Team!
I turned 30 in July, and I have to admit that I cried. Not so much because of that number, but the fact that I thought I would have had a handle on living healthy long ago. I recently came across a journal entry I wrote just before turning 20, having to do with my weightloss woes at that time in my life, and it made me realize that this is going to be a lifelong battle...but that doesn't mean I should just raise the white flag.

I joined SP in April 2008, then bec... Wed, 4 Nov 2009 09:31:28 EST Waving Hello! I just wanted to welcome myself to the group. I turned 30 in July two months after having open heart surgery to repair an ASD I was diagnosed with in September 08 after having my son. Before that happened I was always very focused on eating healthy and working out. Now I'm finding it really difficult to get back on track. A part of me feels so let down by my body.
I want to get back on track and could really use some support! Mon, 2 Nov 2009 18:55:03 EST Hi Team! Well, I have been away from spark people for a while and now I am 30! So, I figured I would check out this board and get back on track!!

So, I wanted to say hello to everyone! Wed, 28 Oct 2009 12:09:19 EST I am officially 30! Hey all! I am Julia, and I am now one of the coleaders in this forum. I just turned 30 today, and the way I look at it, new age, new decade, new life. I kind of like it better than a New Year's resolution, cause now it is a new decade resolution. I hope all of ya'll are doing well, and I am looking forward to our future together! Please talk and let's get to know eachother! Sun, 25 Oct 2009 20:58:32 EST Expectations of a Woman turned 30
I don't know how everyone else who has been 30 for a few months feels, but there are certain things I thought I'd have that I don't.

1. A house
2. A baby
3. Enormous amount of debt
4. A college degree
5. A job

What I do have is a very positive and optimistic husband, a princess fur-baby, a high school diploma and a place to live, food to eat, clothes on my back, and some money in the bank.

I am also suffering from depression - ... Sun, 11 Oct 2009 15:00:22 EST turned 30 in May Hello everyone,
I am new to this group, but not new to Sparkpeople. I turned 30 this year and I started losing the baby weight, but then I got off track. So far, I have burned over 2,000 calories this week, watched my caloric intake, and remained hydrated. I would like to get back down to my pre-married weight. I have 30 pounds to loose. Want to get this done before I look up and I am 40.... Sat, 10 Oct 2009 22:13:28 EST new to spark Hello. My name is ROxy and I just joined Spark. I am a stay at home mom of four. I had it pretty easy in the beginning because I gained just 10lbs with my first child, lost 5 lbs, then had my second child and gained 10 lbs. Two years later I was super unhappy and divorced. My weight was 135 and being a small 5'0 I wanted to do something about it. I began training in the gym and got back down to my pre baby SIZE (not weight) and weight just 115 (first time I think I had muscle. I felt great, b... Tue, 22 Sep 2009 09:33:53 EST Newbie in Lawton, Oklahoma Hi! I just turned 30 on June 16. I am new here and just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I am thankful that I found this site. There are so many great resources here and I really believe this is the "diet" I have been searching for. I have over 100+ pounds to lose and it isn't a diet I am looking for, but a new lifestyle. I want to be able to lose the weight, keep it off, and become a better healthier person. I have never been married, nor do I have any children and I think... Sun, 13 Sep 2009 23:41:47 EST Preparing for 30 Hi, all! Not 30 until next summer but I want to be fab for my birthday bash next year. I hope that I can stay.... I am really excited about sparks and I am up for the challenge. Losing weight is important for me because I have spent so much time taking care of others and I just want to do this one thing for myself. I am planning my birthday now! I want it to be big and a celebration of a new, happier, slimmer me. If you all have any suggestions, advice to help me through this journey, it i... Sun, 13 Sep 2009 19:32:22 EST turned 30 yesterday I have had a hard time setting goals, but am determined this is going to the year I build a self image mainly by becoming more fit, the from dealing with other issues. Sat, 25 Jul 2009 23:47:26 EST Hello!! Ok, so just turned 30 is a little bit of a stretch. I have been the big 30 for a little over 6 months now. But I do want to loose weight and stay healthy. My biggest fear was hitting 30 and ballooning like overnight! I have been using spark people regularly sine the 2 week in June and it seems to be going well, but see my blog for my confusion I need help with! Fri, 10 Jul 2009 02:58:16 EST Hello there Hi everyone, just wanted to drop a line and introduce myself. This is about the 3rd or 4th time I have tried to lose weight in the past year. It's time to really kick it in gear and do this thing for myself. 9 Wed, 8 Jul 2009 11:11:06 EST Can I stay? Well, I'm not quite (hit the big 3-0 in Oct), but I really don't want to join a 20-something team at this point. Hopefully, you'll allow me to get settled in here
40 246

I live in Ohio with my husband. I haven't always been heavy. I gained all my weight when I threw my back out just months after getting married (actually its almost 3 yrs to the date). After 8 months of pain and torture (also known as physical therapy), I am back to normal (well, ... Fri, 3 Jul 2009 18:40:36 EST Hi New Team! I'm back to SP after a couple of months away and a few (or more) pounds added in that time - and that's why I'm back! Check out my blog/page if you want to know more.

I was really happy to find this team since I'd just deleted myself from all the "20 something" teams I was on.. kinda weird but I'm really quite okay with being 30. The strangest feeling was pushing the 3-0 on the cardio machines at the gym! lol!

Best wishes everyone - I hope we can motivate each other to m... Mon, 22 Jun 2009 11:52:17 EST 30 ain't so bad.... I think. Give me a few more months and maybe I can tell you for sure. But so far being 30 isn't really that bad.

I was laying in bed last night, trying to go to sleep (like every night, fighting the urge to make a late night drive to Taco Bell or Krystal's) and all of a sudden, without warning the thought popped into my head: "OMG Erika, you're 30!" Oh my God! I remember when I thought 30 was prehistoric. And now I am staring down the barrel of middle-age. Where did the time go? Why is it I... Sat, 6 Jun 2009 16:29:00 EST Well actually I'll be 31 this Aug HI Folks, Well yes I reached that 30 mark as well. Last Aug actually. I lost about 30 lbs almost two years ago and I did put some back on so now I am back to sparking and hoping I can make it a life change rather than a diet. I was a member of the 20+ year olds but had to switch over to here since I'm now 2 years

I have been married for 12 years this July and wouldn't trade a minute of it. I don't have any kids but I do have a puppy and lots of kids who belong to f... Mon, 25 May 2009 11:11:54 EST Turning 30 in one week! Ahhhh! Hi! I decided to join the 30s group since I'm just about there. I'm hoping to find myself again in my thirties as I've been a stay at home mom since my twins were born 5 1/2 years ago. I also have two more children. I have lost about 85 lbs in the last two years, but the last six months I've hit a plateau. I'm hoping to lose another 15-20 lbs. I love to run and workout at the gym--great stress relievers for me! I just ran my first 10K and ran it in 53 mins.

Anyhow, here ar... Sun, 24 May 2009 02:18:12 EST Just turned 30 years old 15 days ago I just turned 30 15 days ago and I am getting married in 31 days! I had wanted to lose 30 pounds before my wedding, but I have only been able to achieve about 10 so far. I would like to lose 15 more before my big day, but I'm going to need a lot of motivation. I would love some cheerleaders. I'll cheer right back! Does anyone want to do this challenge with me? Wed, 20 May 2009 12:34:46 EST New to the team. Hello everyone! I'm Kim from Mississippi and I just turned 30 in April. I become very concerned about my health a few months before my birthday. I guess it just hit me that I was turning 30 and was getting older. It was time for me to make a change for the better. I've been a member of Sparkpeople for over a year now. Looking forward to getting to know everyone on this team and making new friends. 213

Kim Tue, 19 May 2009 11:59:59 EST About to turn 30 29 Hello All,
My name is Megan and I will be turning the big 30 July 13th. I have struggled with being over weight virtually the entirety of my 20's, and I don't want to spend the next decade that way. In addition, I recently married truly the most wonderful man, and we are going to Hawaii in June as a three fold celebration: Honeymoon, him graduating with an MBA, and my turning 30. Soooo, obviously that's even more reason to turn up the heat and keep on track with my weight loss goals. I ... Sun, 5 Apr 2009 23:25:16 EST Hiya Turned thirty today and very glad to have found this group. I'm looking forward to getting to know everybody soon.

With your support I definitely cant fail 30 Sun, 8 Mar 2009 20:10:51 EST Headaches Hi,
I just started my own little "program" a week ago. I have been working out everyday for 60 minutes, 2 days for 30 minutes. I have also stopped soda completely and am only drinking water - I was doing that before I started. I have been using Sparkpeople's nutrition log to log everything I eat. I almost always come in 300-500 calories short.

I have been having headaches all week. Does anyone know why this could be? My mom thinks it's just my body adjusting to not eatin... Thu, 22 Jan 2009 21:37:41 EST Hi! I just turned 30 in October 2008. Sun, 21 Dec 2008 16:10:41 EST Hello! Hi all!

I just turned 30 at the beginning of this month and am trying to get back in a groove of working out so when January hits I can hit the ground running on my weight loss goal before a wedding I'm in on May 9! I am a high school English teacher and tend to let myself get caught up in grading, tutoring, after school activities, etc. and working out goes out the door. In 2009 I am putting myself and my family that includes being healthier so I can be happier! Sun, 21 Dec 2008 09:23:50 EST Hello Hi I'm Asim... and i turned 30 in september.... I'm looking fwd to meeting new people...! Wed, 17 Dec 2008 07:27:48 EST Goals for the End of 2008? I thought it would do me some good to put up a few of my goals for 2008 (since it is almost over). I'm hoping that short-term, reasonable goals (small victories) will help me stay on track.

1) By December 31, I would like to be at 187ish (or somewhere at the top of the 80's). So lose another 7 to 10 lbs-which I think is reasonable right?

2) Be able to keep up in the Body Pump aerobics class at my gym. Went once...but then ended up hurting myself the next week so had to f... Mon, 17 Nov 2008 12:37:17 EST Hello! My name is Sonia, just turned 30 in August. New to this team! Mon, 29 Sep 2008 15:02:15 EST No longer a 20-something... I just turned 30 on 9/8, so I felt it would be appropriate to join this team. Turning 30 was a great motivator for me to loose weight, and I was able to shred 14 lbs so far with running and counting those calories.... way to go! I am sad to get older, but want to do the best to stay as healthy as possible and look the best I can! Also want to get to an ideal body weight before getting pregnant :) Hope to make some new friends here! Mon, 22 Sep 2008 21:40:39 EST Hi to New members! I had an opportunity to be good and I blew it big time.

For some reason my laziness in preparing my own meals is a staggering cause to why I think I'm overweight. I make good money so I have always been content to go to somewhere that prepare's the meal for you. Now, saving for a house and a wedding, I'm trying to overcome my own laziness for more than one reason. <BR... Wed, 11 Jun 2008 14:22:30 EST Welcom MsSevilla I got an email that we had a new member! Just wanted to welcome you!! Wed, 11 Jun 2008 14:19:00 EST I thought I was going to cry. I was surprised that I had a blast on my birthday. Turning 30 felt like any other birthday, but many people had warned me that I would cry. I did worry weeks before my birthday. Obviously, I knew life would keep going, but maybe I expected everyone to treat me differently? I don't know. The only people having an issue with my age are some members of my family. I am a single 30 year old Hispanic female with no children. This creates a bit of a controversy where I am from. But you know what? I ...
