SparkPeople Baltimore Hon's! Team Messageboard A social team for Bawlmer ladies and gents getting healthy! SparkPeople Baltimore Hon's! Team Messageboard Back for another shot! I am so ready to shed this weight. I've decided to come back and have this site help guide me thru. I have a lot of weight to lose, and need to figure out how to get motivated to exercise. I have quit drinking soda as of 11 days ago. In that time I have only had 1 soda, and a slurpee (I love slurpees). All else has been water and 1 hot tea (with milk and sugar) in the morning at work. I look forward to getting to know everyone and dropping the pounds.

Sarah Thu, 9 Sep 2010 12:52:40 EST Charm City Races! Statistics say that those with a buddy will loose the most. Thats because they have that extra encouragement. So this weeks challenge is to find at least 1 buddy (they don't have to be from our team, anyone you click with), and email them all this week. On Monday we'll tell each other all about our new friend. 223 Mon, 16 Jun 2008 09:36:41 EST Supplements Has anyone ever used a supplement (not vitamins) to help with weight loss? I am really stuck and need some extra help. I'm not keen on that new one, Alli, just because I've heard of some bad side effects. But perhaps there's something else someone has found success with? I know there are a lot of scams out there and I don't want to waste money if it's just a con job. Mon, 11 Jun 2007 12:55:15 EST Summer Sizzle Challenge Week #2 First of all refresh what your personal goals are - the ones you WILL achieve.

The mini-goal for Week #1 was to eat the recommended serving of fruits and vegetables. The mini-goal for Week #2 is to drink half of your body weight in water. Incredible as it may seem, water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. Although most of us take it for granted, water may be the only true "magic potion" for permanent weight loss!

2... Sun, 10 Jun 2007 21:14:33 EST Hot one! Well, I'm a little nervous about today...they are calling for a heat index of over 100! I normally take my long lunch walk (and get some sun!) but on the radio they were recommending that everyone should stay in the air conditioning for as long as possible today. Of course, we're driving to Woodbridge this afternoon in my broken-down car with no AC....

Maybe I'll do my walk inside, somehow. I could walk up and down the stairs and around the department. I have to be careful, or ... Fri, 8 Jun 2007 10:44:08 EST Need lunch ideas... So, one of my biggest eating challenges during the week is lunch. I try to be good and bring my lunch, which usually consists of a Lean Cuisine and something on the side (fruit, baked chips/cheetos, etc.) However, these Lean Cuisine's are so high in sodium and don't really fill me up for more than a few hours.

So, I'm looking for quick and easy healthy lunch suggestions. I'm not a big sandwich fan (I love to eat them when someone else makes them, but they are never good when I m... Wed, 6 Jun 2007 13:35:02 EST am sparkslacker! Uh-oh. Last week was crazy b/c my mom and aunt were in town to go dress shopping w/ me, we ate out a ton, I didn't go to gym, excuse excuse excuse. I definitely didn't feel as good last week as I did the week before. This is my personal pledge to you guys to get back on the right track! Tue, 5 Jun 2007 08:51:55 EST Summer Sizzle Challenge Week #1 Okay our next challenge will be titled "Summer Sizzle" and it will run for thirteen weeks (from 6/4 until 9/3).

First of all let's each put down our personal goals that we hope to achieve by 9/3.

In addition to tracking calories and exercise we will have a mini-goal each week; for Week #1 is to eat 5 a day of fruits/veggies. Well ladies - tomorrow is the day of my first sprint-distance triathlon! I'm nervous but excited too! I don't have any goals but to finish in one piece! I'll let you know how it goes : ) Fri, 1 Jun 2007 22:09:17 EST How many calories do u burn on the elliptical? I decided since I was feeling better today (my heart palpitations) to try some light exercise. I did the elliptical (no resistance) for about 30 minutes with a two 30 second breaks at 10 and 20 minutes.

It says I only burned 120 calories! Is something wrong with my machine or is this typical because I'm not getting up the momentum to burn more calories by stopping and by not having any resistance? Okay ladies, you know the drill! This week is our final week of the challenge, and we will be keeping the elements from each previous week - this week the challenge is to get enough water! The minimum is 8 glasses per day - 64 ounces. A good goal would be to get between 10-13 glasses for that extra oompf!

TO sum, we're tracking: calories (trying to stay within 100 cals of the bottom range), cardio, strength, at least 2 nutrients, and 8+ glasses of water.

Andrea- could... Mon, 28 May 2007 10:38:42 EST gym shoes I've been using the same sneakers (running shoes) at least a few times a week for about a year now, so I think it's time for a new pair. My current ones are Saucony something- they were like $40 at Dick's. I didn't want to invest too much since I wasn't sure if I'd actually stick my my running routine. Now that I have a gym membership, I'm running maybe 1 day a week and doing other cardio (elliptical, etc) about 4 times. Should I get running shoes again or something else? Should I get 2 ... Thu, 24 May 2007 17:38:33 EST Yay for Trader Joes! So FI and I had a doctors appointment last night in Towson for him (whole long story...don't want to bore you!) and when we finished up, we decided to go to Trader Joes to do our weekly grocery order instead of the "traditional" super market. While we were shopping, we saw cool little signs all over the place about how to read labels, what the benefits of organic food are, etc. You know...the "usual" signs that you would see in that sort of food store (ahem...hippie health nut). So I made ... Thu, 24 May 2007 15:37:37 EST Moving between the SP "stages" Just wondering if it does it automatically for me or if I do it myself? I eat 3 meals a day, 2 fruits and 5 veggies, and I still can't meet my 1390-1700 calorie demand, or my 183-265 carb demand. My calories are hovering between 1100 and 1300 and my carbs at 150.

It doesn't make sense. We have 2 weeks left, so lets finish strong.

I think some of us (like me!) are having issues with the calories, so I think we should probably keep our main tracking categories the same (calories, water, exercise, nutrients) and focus this week on maintaining calories. I was expecting maybe a 1 pound lost...not 4!

I have been counting my calories and hitting up the water aerobics class at the gym and the days when there isn't class, my best friend (who is very supportive) and I are walking 2 miles at the track, around the neighborhood and even the mall!
... Thu, 19 Apr 2007 09:13:22 EST Drinking Water I have no problem at all drinking water during the week because my work supplies a water cooler and bottled water for us. However, on the weekends, I find myself either not drinking anything or drinking diet coke or even a 1/2 orange or 1/2 lime juice and 1/2 water (mainly because the acid in those juices alones kills me!).

Any suggestions as to try to pump myself up for drinking water on the weekends? We don't have many other options in my house so in reality, I shouldn't have... Tue, 17 Apr 2007 16:03:51 EST xpose Hey all,

I know a bunch of people in here have talked about/tried Xpose fitness. I've been going pretty regularly for a while now. It is a fantastic work out, but I just had to share a story from Friday night.

We were in the chair, leaning backwards with hands on the floor doing butterfly kicks. Fri, 13 Apr 2007 11:14:48 EST Venting...sorry 18

Uhhh...I have to vent about FI for a moment.

I finally got the time to look around the SP site and become friendly with the links and teams and calorie counting, etc. It's great and I'm psyched about keeping up with the whole SP plan. The support and resources on here have been so inspirational that I really want to make the commitment this time and lose the weight.

So FI and I generally chat online throughout the work day. Just let me know.

Anyway, as we all know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I am trying to personally raise money for this wonderful cause with several of my Mary Kay sister consultants. During the month of October, I am donating 15% of my total sales to the Susan G. I'm tired of always seeing the negative post pretty high in our threads (and I am guilty of it as well). But who in this world is perfect (and how boring would that be?).

I challenge each and every one of you to post weekly one positive thing that you have accomplished! I'd never cooked with leeks before, but they taste like a mild onion. Quite yummy!

I also made the slow cooker pineapple chicken. Good, but I wouldn't recommend putting beer in it. It left the pineapple with a sour taste. I made it the other night with pineapple juice, pineapples and soy sauce/teriyaki sauce. Much better.
