SparkPeople Empty Nesters-Parents of Generation NEXT Team Messageboard Our kids that aren't kids anymore. They are the new Generation...Young adults growing up in a different world...and they have flown the coupe...what do we do now? SparkPeople Empty Nesters-Parents of Generation NEXT Team Messageboard New Team Leader Here Hi,
This is my therapy. I will track fitness and calories along with the weirdness of my only child leaving home permanently (we think). Mon, 10 Feb 2014 13:37:17 EST 30-1/2 years to launch... My daughter is moving out in March. I know this time, it is permanent. She has everything needed to take good care of herself. She has undergrad and post-grad degrees along with a stable, career-oriented profession underway.

If no one is out there in SP land, I will post here on my own. Feel free to join in.

Living with adult children is tough, but when they leave, it still feels strange. Mon, 10 Feb 2014 12:54:18 EST Grown kids and the holidays Did anyone else out there enjoy having kids home over the holiday? I am finding that I enjoy these visits more all the time. Of course, the kids don't feel like our house is their home any more, but I enjoy seeing my sons growing into adults and being there to offer advice if they ask.
Tue, 29 Nov 2011 13:20:47 EST Boomerang kids This week one of my 20-year-old twins moved back in with us due to a roommate situation beyond his control.

Has this happened to anyone else? Our older son did this once. It was supposed to be for a few weeks and ended up being 6 months. It was just SO comfortable at home...... 20 Fri, 28 Oct 2011 11:56:42 EST One pro/One Con to Empty Nesting Pro - I am losing weight b/c I am not cooking 4 lbs of meatballs and 2 lbs of spaghetti plus garlic bread for my 18 yo twin boys!!!

Con - I really miss their senses of humor and the dinner conversations - we always ate dinner together and sometimes my DH just don't have anything to say, Mon, 10 Oct 2011 10:30:27 EST Name 3 good things about your empty nest 1. I have twin 18 yo boys, one of whom just got "droppped off" at UC Berkeley and the other one is home with me for a few more days until he goes to Northeastern. We live in Maryland so the boys couldn't be further away from each other and they are both pretty far from us. Mon, 22 Aug 2011 20:19:15 EST Almost Empty Nest Sadness...... Just got back from a whirlwind one day trip taking our son back to college. You would think that since he is now a Junior and us still having a daughter living at home, I would be over the Empty Nest Sadness that goes along with him leaving again. But I am not. I feel sadness. I feel lonely. I feel pathetic. I am so proud of him and am glad he is doing well with school, has a lot of friends and a goal, but how do you get over not being around a child after 18 years of taking care of th... However, now that I am the mom I am not ready for my son to leave. He is such a great kid and we have so much fun together. Sat, 9 Jul 2011 11:56:37 EST UPSET Need MRI breast biopsy They could not find the spot on the ultrasound which I knew might happen. Both the tech and radiologist tried but it didn't show up. SO now there is more waiting and stress involved. I am scheduled for an MRI guided breast biopsy July 7th.- a week from this Thursday. I asked the radiologist, because he had reviewed my breast MRI images, if he thought this was cancer. He said it is indeterminate and that is why we need to follow-up. SO basically, if it is the worse case scenario and I would ha... Tue, 28 Jun 2011 21:28:25 EST Have you had your five fruits and veggies today? Although I am an empty nester, I don't have a lot of spare time on my hands. I have worked full-time for a lower elementary school for the last 22 years. When my youngest was getting ready to graduate h.s. in '07, I looked at it as an opportunity to get a part-time job to earn extra money to hopefully get out of debt quicker. That decision has brought me craziness, but I do enjoy doing se... I am upset because the insurance company really needs to pre-approve the MRI's or I could get stuck with $4000 bill or more. The doc composed a letter Friday nite and I am sure the pre-auth. person from the clinic will send that to the insurance tomorrow. Insurance states that they usually need 1-2 weeks for pre-auth which I can't wait that long. It would hold up surgery and everything. Si I... Sun, 5 Dec 2010 22:56:37 EST Kudos and Accompli hments!! Not general type stores because I didn't want to tempt them with bad choices. I picked Old Navy; American Eagle; Academy; Office Max and Sonic--stores I know t... Tue, 24 Aug 2010 20:25:33 EST Hi Im New Hi folks. Last week the last of my three kids left the nest. Our son was 34. He has been with 'us' for 34 years. Our middle son left last fall as did our baby girl when she got married. As I talked to my therapist today I realized I got through the first two leaving by somehow keeping in the back of my mind - that my oldest son was still here.
I know all this is healthy - but the kids WERE MY LIFE - I never went back to work full-time. None of the three of them are more than an ... Mon, 23 Aug 2010 20:00:41 EST Hello, I am new to this Hi, I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing how everyone else is doing this. I think this is one of the hardest things I have ever done.
It hit me the other day that after 14 years of getting up and getting my kids off to school I no longer have to do that anymore. It was a strange feeling. I have 2 children a boy whose 19 and my baby girl is 18.

Well my baby girl is leaving this Friday and I can't hardly stand it. She will be going away to school 3 hours aw... Mon, 23 Aug 2010 19:29:05 EST Some Nests are Just Now Coming Empty.... If your nest is about to be, or just became empty, there are those of us on this team who know just how you're feeling. When I joined SparkPeople, my nest had just gone empty, and I really appreciated the support! So vent away, and remember...part of your kids' hearts are still at home to stay! Thu, 19 Aug 2010 08:44:31 EST New to Team Hi, my name is Louise! I can't believe I am less than 3 weeks away from being an empty nester. My oldest daughter is a senior in college and now my baby girl is going to be a college freshman. They both will be in college 16 hours away, so there will be no coming home on the weekends. It wasn't so hard with the oldest one gone because I still had one at home, but that isn't the case anymore. My 21 year old also became engaged this summer,so next June she will be moving to her first home. <BR... Sun, 8 Aug 2010 08:48:19 EST I'm new Hello everyone, I am looking forward to meeting all of you and learning how I am going to be able to pull this empty nest thing off. I have tried every month for the past few to have our team selected as a featured team of the month on Sparkpeople, but there are thousands of teams to choose from, so I am not surprised that its a hard decision to make each month.

I would love to hear your comments on what you think is attributing to the success of our team.

From the new members I would like to know how you he... Wed, 4 Aug 2010 11:27:05 EST New to the team I've had a completely empty nest for a few years now, but have one child who lives a distance away, so he comes home for a week or so once or twice a year. It's SO hard to say good bye to him. I had to do that yesterday. Loved having him here, just hard to let him go back to his new home. I must have been tight in the upper abdominal/diaphragm areas to keep from crying as much as I could, because I felt so awful in that area today. Didn't want to exercise. Finally did though and now I feel mu... Tue, 3 Aug 2010 17:40:17 EST Hi! New to team Hi, I just joined your team and I thought I would introduce myself. I have one son who I raised as a single mom. Mon, 21 Jun 2010 12:32:13 EST Kids Back Home Who Sleep Past Noon I've got my 21 year old adult/kid son living back home with us trying to get his act together with our help. Sun, 20 Jun 2010 12:15:59 EST What do you do fto fill the empty nest void? I thought this was a good question to ask because when our nest became empty, it seemed like all of a sudden for so many changes! It's not just that the kid(s) have moved out; it's much more than that! Suddenly life totally changes and if we don't DO something to fill that nurturing void, it can get extremely tough!

What I do to fill the empty nest void:

* I work with our miniature horses and all the things that go along with owning them!

* I help my husband i... Our youngest son is 19, and even though, while he is in college, we've been paying his cell phone bill, he pays his car insurance, and that usually works out pretty good. My youngest daughter has been with all this week...when she left I went through withdrawals all over again..Does anyone else feel this way ???????? 46 Mon, 23 Mar 2009 22:48:44 EST Changing Colleges Our son, who is at school on a full scholarship, tells us today that he is miserable and is leaving school! He claims he will apply to other schools to start in spring 2010 - it's too late to apply for fall 2009. We are honestly pretty freaked out. We want him to be happy, of course, but he is so impulsive! We are practical sorts and would have likely stuck out 2 more years of unhappiness for the free education. Our son seems to think that "the money will work out". I have no idea what ... Thu, 19 Mar 2009 17:32:35 EST Weddings, graduations, and more... Wow. I have a question: I have a deep fryer(no southern woman should be without one) and since I'm not frying these days it's sitting on a shelf looking sad. It has a basket that you put the food in and lower into the hot oil for cooking and a removable liner to make clean up easier. I'm wondering if I can use it for steaming vegetables.
