You can google "Atkins flu". But it takes a few days to switch over and more efficiently do that. This switch over time is when most folks feel unwell, weak or dizzy, or mentally fuzzy. Back in the 80's I lost 105 lbs and kept it off for over 18 years. It wasn't until I took on my husbands eating habits that I gained back all I'd lost plus more. So I started last Tuesday, and most of my friends said I was insane for starting 2 days before Thanksgiving. My answer to them, "why put off what I can start now?" Just low-carb would be awesome.

Does anyone have a good turtle cheesecake recipe?

Thank You!!! Mon, 19 Dec 2011 14:13:53 EST Portable Snacky Stuff? Hi All!

I was low carb a few years ago and LOVED it. Felt great, looked good, lost the few pounds I wanted to lose. All was good.

Until....I got a social life. Ya see, I found it a lot easier to eat low carb when I was eating alone and at home. Add another person to the mix or try eating out and things got difficult.
Anyway, I fell off the low carb wagon and have only toyed with it occasionally since then.

Now I find myself wanting to get back to it, b... Sat, 17 Dec 2011 04:11:50 EST atkins friendly sorbet??? I'm looking to make a sorbet or similar from scratch for Christmas and I was hoping there would be someone out there with some experience of doing this!

I've found some great recipes but I'm not sure if the sweeteners will interact with the other ingredients in the same way as sugar on a chemistry level. Has anyone successfully made a sorbet/granita/sherbet by switching sugar for a l/c sweetener?

Thanks :-) Wed, 9 Nov 2011 04:09:37 EST Recipe Request Hello, All,

I'm wondering if some of the experts here can help me with 2 recipe requests:

1) Last winter I REALLY enjoyed making vegetable soups, and getting a large
number of my veggies each day in soup form. Unfortunately, most of the recipes
that I used were really high in carbs, lots of beans and legumes. So I'm
wondering if anyone has any really yummy, low-carb-friendly, vegetable soup
recipes. I'm in the OWL phase, eating 35g of carb a day, and ... Sun, 6 Nov 2011 17:32:20 EST Confusing Cholesterol Results I've been low-carbing it since August 14th. Lost 13 lbs and 13 inches and have maintained since Sept 7th. I was sooooo excited to have a cholesterol lab done last week since my cholesterol had been borderline high previously. I'd read (in Living Low Carb by Jonny Bowden, PhD, CNS) about the benefits of a low-carb diet on cholesterol, so I had high hopes..... Results were 225 total, 140 LDL, 54 HDL, 156 Triglycerides. It appears my ratio of Total to HDL is still 4-to-1, which is the goal, but ... Wed, 2 Nov 2011 14:09:31 EST Coconut Oil??? Hello, All,

I've been reading a bit, and was reading about how coconut oil is very tasty and healthy, so I decided on a whim to go out and buy some today.

Problem is, I really don't have much of a plan for how I'm going to use it yet! The only time I add oil in my cooking right now is when I make my morning omlette, as bacon grease doesn't hold a candle to butter when it comes to making delicious, light, fluffy eggs. But I'm thinking of trying the coconut oil for that.... Sat, 22 Oct 2011 14:23:01 EST TRICK or TREAT! So there's nothing "SPOOKY" about this topic! Is it TRICK or TREAT? Thu, 20 Oct 2011 06:59:21 EST Recipe #2, OWL-Friendly and SAD approved! Hello, All,

Wasn't going to post this recipe, as it seems to be just too simple to be new to anyone. BUT, I've taken it to 2 group functions at which I was the only Atkins-ite--And both proclaimed it delicious and cleaned out the serving dish. So I figured it wouldn't hurt to share it.

The recipe is for a crustless Faux Mexican style quiche (but once you get the technique down, it's REALLY easy to turn into a "Denver-Style" quiche, or a "Broccoli, Mushroom and Spinach"... Hello, All,

Just thought I'd share a few odds and ends. I'm not a huge cook, but I do like to dabble. Hope some of you may try, and even like, one of these!!!

First, I'll have to confess that one of the attractions of Atkins to me was that I'd get to eat full fat salad dressings (i.e. Blue Cheese!!!!) and Mayonnaise. I know, my priorities are warped some times! Around week 3 I started making my own mayo. And, I must say, I'll never go back to (name your favorite st... Wed, 12 Oct 2011 11:15:02 EST What's for lunch & dinner today? I'm eating some ham & gn pepper quiche right now (which was also my breakfast) and a pile of cauliflower w/blue cheese dressing. Hello, All,

I tried to get some discussion of this going earlier, but it was on my blog, and didn't get much response. So I'll post it here.

For Christmas last year my DW got me an inexpensive charcoal smoker. I have to say it was the best thing she's ever gotten me! I've done a lot of experimenting with it, (rubs, adding different woods, etc.) and have decided that for now, my favorite is just simple charcoal smoke (maybe an occasional hickory, mesquite, or applewood... Hello, All,

Ran into some frustration shopping on Saturday, and was wondering if anyone may know an easy solution.

I was getting a bit tired of cooking my lunch every day, so I decided this week I'd do lettuce-wrapped sandwhiches. It's very tasty, but I soon found out that 99% of the lunch meat out there has what seems like lots of carbs in it. Most of the meats in the store would foist 4-6 g of carb into every lunch sandwich, and I was hoping to avoid that.

... Tue, 4 Oct 2011 23:34:12 EST Been on a carb binge :( Which is why I haven't been around the few couple days. I don't know what got into me! I can tell you that I feel miserable... Hello, All,

I was looking over Tom Naughton's web site last night, and he recommended the book: The Slow Burn Revolution. I did some research on, and found that book, and another, called The Power of 10, that seem to focus on fewer workouts, fewer sets and reps, and super-slow movement (10 second contracting, 10 second relaxing). Given that I'm loth to buy a book unless I know that it's a good and helpful one, I figured I'd ask some real people first. Has anyone here... Tue, 9 Feb 2010 14:08:43 EST Getting Back on track Hi, My name is Cathy, I'm 53 and live in Davenport, FL. I would like to have at least one online buddy to help me thorough my weight loss journey. Any one out there need an online buddy? You can contact me through this group or on

thanks in advance!
Cathy from Davenport, FL Tue, 2 Feb 2010 09:08:41 EST Net Carbs VS regular Carbs????? So I finally received my little freebies from Atkins today. In it I found the explanation (I thought) on how to determine NET carbs. It said "net carbs = total carbs minus fiber". However, this doesn't seem to add up! I took out 2 Atkins bars I'd purchased and looked at total carbs-fiber & it didn't equal out this way. I'm SO confused!!! I need to be able to learn NET carbs to incorporate them correctly. Sat, 16 Jan 2010 21:07:38 EST Hi I am new to the team Hello my name is chele, I am restarting atkins full force today is my offical 1st day of induction. Very be here. Thu, 14 Jan 2010 14:42:24 EST FINALLY!! I lost 1 pound!! Not much, I know!! But better than the zero I had gotten since Oct.! Honestly I only started doing this CORRECTLY a couple days ago. While I was definitely not going over 25 carbs a day since the 5th, my ratios were off. SO I made a great grocery list and stocked up!! Now I'm doing great! I have also realized from all the reading I've done that even on Atkins I won't see huge losses fast like some do, because I'm only 16 lbs. from my target goal. 1 lb. is just 1 lb. but it certainly motivated... Tue, 12 Jan 2010 15:49:03 EST Greetings! Hi Everyone! My name is Lisa and I'm new to Sparkpeople. I've decided to try low-carb again after a couple of years of "wandering" and trying to find something that will work for me.

I welcome any guidance and/or suggestions! I had done Atkins a couple of years ago and really didn't have any luck! I lost maybe 20 pounds after 4 months of doing the plan and exercising. I must have been doing something wrong.

I look forward to the support and guidance!

Li... Tue, 5 Jan 2010 21:52:37 EST New to Atkins diet!! As of today I am starting my Atkins diet :) I am actually very excited about it because it allows me to eat some of my most favorite foods out there! I only have a goal to lose 16 pounds, but since October I haven't lost ANY!! I know Atkins is a new lifestyle, NOT just a diet to help temp. lose weight. I posted on message board earlier and so many people are "warning" me not to do it. Guess I did more research than some of them as it has helped tons of people adapt to a better, healthier LIFE... After 30 days I will re-evaluate my program. I am so happy but I am wondering since I have so much to lose should I stay on induction or can I eat what I want and just stay under 20 carbs? I have found some recipes that I would like to try but in order to have them I would have to not have the salads and just have mainly protein. I don't want to screw up after doing so good the first two weeks but I also don't want to slow down on the weight ... Mon, 24 Aug 2009 19:01:18 EST Hello fellow Low Carber Here! Just wondering how often you weigh yourself?

Do you weigh yourself everyday, but not record it except for once a week?

I started back on Atkins/low-carb Sunday (8/16) and will "weigh in" the next Sunday, but I'm scared because "AF" (Aunt Flo) has come for a visit. 40 She sucks! haha Thu, 20 Aug 2009 12:51:49 EST Starting back 8/16/09 Hi all! I'm starting back up on my Atkins/low carb lifestyle TODAY!

My goal is 10 pounds, for right now, to be able to fit better in my clothes before I start my new job. Sun, 16 Aug 2009 12:44:41 EST Hi From Me Hi, I am new to the group, my name is Tana and I am in Las Vegas. Low carb has always worked the best for me, and I feel so much better. Sun, 19 Jul 2009 12:20:37 EST Atkins question for women Anybody having a change in their menstrual cycles from atkins? I've done research elsewhere and have noticed it isn't uncommon, but nobody addresses how to stop it. I'm considering slowing ceasing the atkins diet until I'm out of ketosis because I think that's what's causing it. Also, I don't know if this is making my birth control uneffective now.
Thoughts? Thu, 16 Jul 2009 20:55:11 EST
