Mon, 26 May 2014 09:38:21 EST What kind of a day did you have? At the end of each day, think about what kind of a day you had. Did you stay on track most of the day? If so, you might call that a green light day (go you!). Maybe you did quite well in some areas, but stumbled a bit in others- not a bad day, but not quite good enough to call it a green light day. That might be called a yellow light day (because you need to be cautious not to get off track). Occasionally we might have a day that things just didn't seem to go the way we wanted- maybe we ... Wed, 30 Apr 2014 20:23:32 EST Hello all I've had a SparkPeople account for quite awhile and been in and out. Sat, 11 Aug 2012 16:08:57 EST Trying again Hi, I'm Kimberly. Two and a half years ago I lost 67lbs. My husband had just joined the Vermont National Guards. He was gone for six months. I just signed up for my first race as motivation to get back on track. Looking for good friends to help my journey. Thu, 9 Aug 2012 20:44:01 EST Hi I'm back. I just made a final decision as to when I am going to run my first one. It is Leaf Peepers Half Marathon
Waterbury, VT on Oct 3, 2010. I ran 6 miles outside in 15 degree weather. No pain, just heavy, cold legs. I didn't believe I had it in me. I am such a wimp in the cold. I am not what I would call a very good Vermonter. I don't downhill ski (too expensive and it scares me to death) and I hate the cold. I love soft fluffy white snow, but I hate dirty, hard, crusty, snow. However, 6 miles in the cold, I am stronger than I ever thought! Today marks the seven month pre-birthday beginning of my weight-loss goal, so by July 25th I hope to have lost 20 pounds! Last March I quit smoking, which was the biggest health accomplishment of my life thus far, but in exchange I have gained some weight. OK, I'll admit that I have allowed myself to eat whatever, whenever I want. Although my weight has fluctuated throughout my life, I have always considered myself a confident woman who has a loving attitude towards my body, no matter what si... Mon, 25 Jan 2010 11:43:35 EST Hello, My name is Jacqueline Today is my second day at SP and all is going well so far. My goal is to be able to walk without going into cardiac arrest and fitting into a smaller size. Hope to have "before" photos up soon, I think knowing that everyone can see me will help to motivate me... Thu, 21 Jan 2010 12:03:55 EST spark streaks? Time to pledge those cardio minutes.
The formula for this is number of minutes per day times days of week times 4 for the month. So for me it will be 60 minutes a day x 6 days =360 minutes a week times 4= 1440 minutes a month. Sun, 10 Jan 2010 18:46:39 EST New to Sparkpeople Hi! Fri, 1 Jan 2010 13:07:40 EST Calories burned for walking in the snow As you Vermonters know, walking through the snow is NOT the same as walking across pavement. I walked a mile and a half through powder at lunch and I got a work out. Any one have any ideas of how many calories you burn. It was a flat surface. I am mostly just wondering how to track it in my fitness tracker.

Keep warm everyone. At least it's sunny today without that wind. That's this week's challenge. Mon, 28 Dec 2009 20:47:40 EST New Year's resolutions? Does everyone out there make New Year's Resolutions, or do you stick to goal setting?

I use to make New Year's resolutions every year but never really stuck to them. Ever since I started out on Spark people though each year I take a look at my big picture goals, and tweak them a little, and then set up some short term and medium goals.
Any other thoughts out there? Mon, 28 Dec 2009 20:44:43 EST I want more for myself than a Fat body Hi , I struggle with emotional eating and have struggled with weight all of my life. I am hoping to use this site for support of myself and others in pursuit of a healthier me. I dreamed myself thinner a million times and been on countless diets. I am looking to myself for some real positive change. I want to know that I am not alone in this process. It is such a lonely feeling to not love and appreciate your own body. The only one you get. Thu, 24 Dec 2009 13:33:45 EST Don't forget your cardio this week Since this is the final week before Christmas we all get too busy and tend to forget about ourselves. this year don't forget your cardio. Even if it's only ten minutes get that heart rate up. Hey it's ten minutes. Mon, 21 Dec 2009 18:21:52 EST To light or not to light? How many of you out there have huge displays of lights, and decorations out there? Or do you tone it down for Christmas, and other holidays?

Me I haven't done any decorating at all. I may put some lights out on the deck, but I won't have a tree. I haven't had one for awhile. I'm allergic to pine, and even the fake trees set me to sneezing. Plus I won't be home for Christmas. Any other thoughts out there? Mon, 21 Dec 2009 18:19:36 EST Christmas destressing We are right in the middle of the Holiday Season, with present shopping, and wrapping. Baking, and cooking. Party going, and office celebrations. Take a few minutes each day to breath and destress. Read a book, take a bath, or a walk. Anything to quiet the nerves, and calm the soul. This is me time. Mon, 14 Dec 2009 19:52:44 EST diet pills or detox diets? Have you ever used diet pills or detox diets? Did they work for you, and if so how much weight did you lose? If not why not? Would you do it again?

I've used diet pills before, and all they did was make me jittery, and more scatterbrained them I usually am. I didn't lose anything on it either. Any other thoughts out there? Mon, 14 Dec 2009 19:48:44 EST December Challenge Time to calculate those cardio minutes again. Let's try to sneak in a few more while doing all that shopping.

So my cardio minutes for December will be 60 minutes a day 6 days a week. 60*6=360*4=1440 minutes. Start within your own minutes, it's taken me awhile to work up to that. I'm also doing Leslie Sansone walk
at home tapes as well.

I'm also going to stay within my calorie range 5 days a week. Tue, 1 Dec 2009 21:43:47 EST write a letter to yourself This week's weekly challenge is to write a letter to yourself 5 years from now. This is sort of a map of goals.

Also write a letter to yourself 5 years ago, and say thank you for being you. You can do these letters in your blog on line, journal, or just a regular piece of paper. Have fun. Mon, 30 Nov 2009 09:56:53 EST fresh herbs or dry herbs? Do you use fresh herbs, or dry herbs in your cooking? Me I use dry herbs mostly because they are cheaper, and easier to keep. I'm only one, and don't use that much herbs in my cooking so fresh would go bad. Sometimes I do use fresh. Any other thoughts out there? Mon, 30 Nov 2009 09:54:27 EST Day One Hi,
My name is Ray, I'm from Sheldon VT. I decided yesterday that today I cut the bull and get myself into shape. I want to lose 40-50 pounds before spring and softball season. I was looking for a website that might help inspire me some. I went to and did a search and fond SparkPeople. Me I'm eating at my sister's house for Thanksgiving. So someone else is cooking. Any other thoughts out there? Tue, 24 Nov 2009 22:14:07 EST weekly challenge November 16th Heres an interesting challenge. Try carrying the amount of weight you've lost so far for a day, and see how you feel. If that's too dangerous or too hard try for an hour or so. Remember you use to carry that weight around all your life. Any wonder why we were so tired and had health problems? Mon, 16 Nov 2009 19:59:03 EST What's in your bedroom? Any good article on sleep these days tells you to keep your bedroom free of all electronics including computers, cell phones, and tvs. How many of us really do do that and use our bedrooms for just sleeping and bed aerobics.

Me I don't have either my computer or tv in the bedroom, and right now just have a portable DVD player in there but I listen to books on tape as I fall asleep. Write in what ever you need to work on for the day, and post it here. Then come back and tell us how you did. For me my daily challenge for today will be 60 minutes of cardio and strength training exercising. Mon, 2 Nov 2009 21:48:31 EST weekly challenge: setting cardio minutes This week's weekly challenge is how many cardio minutes you would like to do. That's how many you do daily times how many days you do it. For me that's 60 minutes *6=360 Mon, 2 Nov 2009 21:45:43 EST November Challenge: Cardio Minutes Once again I'm going to make the monthly challenge a cardio minutes challenge since I'd like to see Vermont in the top 20 in fitness minutes. We maybe a small team but we can do this. So the way to do this is figure out the number of minutes you do daily multiply that by the number of days, and then multiply that number by 4 for the number of weeks. So for me that's 60 minutes daily *6 days a week = 360 weekly *4= 1440 for the month. Mon, 2 Nov 2009 21:42:44 EST Question of the week November 2, 2009 I'm on time for once lol.

How does lunch fare in your scheme of things? Do you eat a healthy lunch or does it get lost in the shuffle. Does it sometimes end up in the fast food lain?

For me it depends on where I am that day. If I'm working it's usually soup or whatever I had for dinner the night before that I can zap in the microwave, or eat cold. Occaisionally it is fast food, but I usually go to the diners on my day off. I have a local deli I like to go t... I seemed to have little issue losing my "baby fat" after my first two kids, ok, maybe I kept a pound or two! After baby number 3 though the weight seemed to really stick with me. Hi everyone!

As we've all noticed, this has not been the summeriest summer on record, but I'm determined to make the best of it anyway! I'm feeling an itch to get some swimming done! I live in Burlington, so there's always Lake Champlain, but frankly it's gross and crowded compared to a really awesome, off the path swimming hole. Does anybody know of some great ponds, lakes, or holes for a summer dip? I'm dying to get out in the middle of nowhere! 237 Tue, 14 Jul 2009 15:44:38 EST Not so-newbie Hey hey everyone! I'm holding steady between 183 and 187 (depending on the day) now, but I've always wanted to get down to 160, so here I am!

My biggest motivator thesto keep active e days has been Vermont itself! I've gone hik...
