SparkPeople Losing weight with ESRD - Kidney Failure Team Messageboard Whether you' re pre-dialysis, currently on dialysis or have a transplant, health is very important. If you need to lose weight with ESRD, here is a group that understands you! Let's do it together! SparkPeople Losing weight with ESRD - Kidney Failure Team Messageboard Effect of food on CKD Right now I am reading 'How not to die' by Michael Greger. It's a very interesting read about the effect of a plant-based diet on the most common causes of death.
I found out that a lot of what he says in the chapter about kidney disease is online, too. See this video (there is a transcript available, look for a button on the left side).

ronic-kidney-disease-with-food/
Fri, 27 Apr 2018 07:42:05 EST Thank a Blood Donor 282 I have been donating Plasma which I can do every 28 days. But they talked me into trying to add platelets .... It did not go well. I got light-headed and nauseous. They stopped the machine for about 5 minutes and fed me a handful of Tums (calcium) then were able to restart and finish up.

On the bright side: ........they prescribed buying a milk shake (more calcium) as soon as I left them 468 Thu, 26 Apr 2018 11:50:00 EST Here for support ..hubby in kidney failure Married to Lee for 45 years. Raised 6 kids...I am still working part time. We knew his kidneys were failing but ER visit today ran a lab of GFR 30 and he is admitted for observation and stabilizing.
My thoughts and emotions are just all over the place. I plan to spend time looking through the information here...but not tonight.
My name is Joyce. I know J_Hennington from another team. Sun, 8 Apr 2018 19:31:46 EST How did I miss this team? But boy am I glad I finally found it.

When I got my CKD diagnosis I searched for a team about kidney disease and I know I didn't find this! I had a bad summer-health wise. After a medication which was too large a dose caused me to have Leaky Capillary Syndrome I finally had a complete physical that I had put off a few years and was diagnosed with Stage3B CKD (GFR-38). Fri, 17 Nov 2017 08:40:39 EST Vinegar With all the research and reading I've been doing regarding my stage 3 CKD, I've come across some sites that talk about the detoxification benefits of apple cider vinegar. Is there any truth to the claims that drinking some apple cider vinegar can help the kidneys function 'better'. I take these sites with the proverbial "grain of salt" and stick with the site for the facts but would like to hear from others regarding the benefits of a.c. vinegar, if any. Mon, 3 Apr 2017 05:21:10 EST Hello and my story Hello everyone I was on sparkpeople a very long time ago to lose weight but I decided now that I am on hemodialysis and have to lose alot of weight just to be 1/2 way considered eligible for on the bottom of the transplant list I would rejoin and find a like minded group to help.
Here is my story.
Well in June 2013 I had been feeling really poorly for a couple of weeks and on the 16th I decided that I had had enough of the shortness of breath (barely walking 5 feet without gas... Mon, 27 Feb 2017 11:25:47 EST Sleep... ......or lack thereof This is a question I will pose to the Nephrologist when I see him but I'd like to put it out to the Team. My family doctor had prescribed Xanax for nighttime use to calm my head. When I didn't take the Xanax (didn't take it every night) I sometimes had to take a shot of Nyquil to get myself to fall asleep. Those days are gone (happily) since I was diagnosed with CKD. I've been researching sleep aids for Stage 3 CKD and have had some success with Melatonin - 2.5 mg. The past 2 nights have ... Tue, 21 Feb 2017 03:45:09 EST New to all this Kidney 'stuff' Good Morning everyone - While I haven't been diagnosed as having renal disease, my GFR has dropped from 75 to 57 over the past 4 years. I know my increased drinking and use of alprazolam at night cannot have helped. I'm on the road to changing a lot of very bad habits and learning to have more respect for my kidneys - and body - in general.

I've already discovered what a wonderful resource this team is and thank you for allowing me to join. Have a beautiful day, Bella Wed, 15 Feb 2017 05:31:35 EST Protein Issues I'm not so new to ESRD. I joined, left because the name scared me, and have returned. I've been on dialysis since Feb. 2015. I have had an ongoing problem with my protein levels. We are supposed to have protein levels at 4.0. I have never had a 4.0. My first labs had my protein at 3.8 and over the months, the numbers dropped to 3.1. I take Liqua-Cel at the center and at home but my protein numbers are all over the place. Mon, 2 May 2011 00:39:33 EST Can't have a transplant without weight loss :( Hi everyone, I haven't been around in a while, but I need to renew my "Spark" for losing weight once more. I could use lots of encouragement. I got a rejection letter last week from the transplant docs. They say I have to lose 40 lbs. before I can be considered. That letter was like a punch in the gut! So, I have been slowly losing weight and have already lost around 40 lbs., so I know I can do it. I just have to keep it going! Mon, 18 Apr 2011 10:18:29 EST New to Team Hi! I'm anthembiker, and I am in kidney decline for a while now - 2% a month for no reason, or so the Doc's say. Frustrating. Looks like I'm going to end up a Vegan. Started out weight at 184, I'm down to 148 and still losing. Any encouragement or help with diet planning would REALLY be appreciated as I'm in a rut as far as dinners go. I had it while on dialysis. Usually is gets under control after transplant, but mine did not. It is not severe enough to warrant surgery to remove the glands, but the elevated PTH (parathyroid hormone) has caused significant bone loss.
... Tue, 5 Aug 2008 11:20:01 EST Hi from Colorado. I'm Janina. I'm 32 years old. I am on my second kidney tranplant which I received 3 years and 2 months ago (but who's counting). I was on peritoneal dialysis then had to switch to Hemo. Made me crazy. I was 115 pound at my sickest point, but I don't want to go back there. At my transplant I was 135, now I'm 180. My labs were out of whack so I had to eat extra food to help them out (of course, I didn't mind at the time). I just had a baby in May (my 2nd) and gained a little extra with h...
