Mon, 3 Oct 2011 11:14:14 EST Chandra Good Evening Everyone,
I am not new to Spark. I signed up years ago but would make me new is actually getting online to use some of their tools for weight loss. I used a website before when I was trying to lose weight and found that the emails and testimonals really helped me to stay on track. I know that with the support of you guys here I will be able to achieve my goal. So I thank you in advance for your support and pray and wish that you all achieve your goals as well. Wed, 18 May 2011 23:49:32 EST San Hi I'm Sandra but everyone calls me San. I need to loose about 40 pounds, but I am so unmotivated. I have zero will power. I start something then after a couple of weeks I fall of the wagon. This is probalby the 3rd or 4th time I've been on Sparks to get started losing the weight. I finally decided it is a new year (2011) and I will be 50 on Jan 9 and if I don't do it now I never will.
I am a very picky eater in that I don't like many vegatables. Mostly curiosity.

I haven't lost much weight. The last 6 months has been my most successful. People ask me what diet I am on, and compliment me on my losing. I noticed that I was much more likely to make working out a part of my routine, and my eating was much different. I really had to work on lower calories and good fats. It worked.

Right now I am at a new "do nothing" phase.... Sun, 13 Sep 2009 10:16:43 EST Hello? Is anyone still here? Hey, I know I fell off the face of the earth like forever ago. Wed, 21 Nov 2007 16:21:14 EST Stay within calories on weekends challenge Some of us had mentioned that staying on track on the weekends was hard for us, me included. So here it is, a challenge to hold us all accountable!!

My calorie range is 1300 to 1550. (Spark said 1200 to 1550, but I upped the lower limit!) That can be stationary bike, jogging in place, jumping jacks what ever you would like to do to get your body ready for stretching.

2) Do your stretching. I'm fairly new at the checking labels thing, and I haven't really worried about meats up to now because you can access that information in Spark and meat is meat, right? (I don't mean the over-processed, breaded, flavoured kind, just plain without seasoning.)

We typically buy boxes of pre-frozen chicken breasts. It's cheaper because you are buying in bulk and it's convenient because you can access the appropriate serving size easily. Yesterday when I was pulling out so... Fri, 9 Nov 2007 12:26:50 EST getting bored of calorie counting for the first few weeks of being on this website putting my eaten calories through the nutrition tracker was fun! Not to mention informative- i definately learnt where my pitfalls were... However i eat fairly similar meals and have made heaps of ajustments to keep my calories and fat content down- and am pretty aware of how much i am eating. So now its more of a chore than anything else!

So i guess my question is should i keep entering foods- or just new ones to see how much i rea... Wed, 7 Nov 2007 17:50:48 EST Alone! I feel so alone here! I have sent several e-mails and replied to a number of topics and I get no reply. I eat when my emotions get so cloudy. This aloneness has followed me through all my life since I wasa child. I was never picked for groups in school or I was the last one standing so I "had" to be picked. I am fighting for my life and I am so alone...I start to wonder...why bother! Wed, 7 Nov 2007 01:28:22 EST Other helpful sites We all know SparkPeople has about a million helpful resources, but I've found a couple of other pages that have helped me utilize SP's tools to even greater effect.

The first is It's got tons of nutritional information on everything to a general search for the number of calories in a plum, to specific brands and flavors and such.

The other is, which has a unit conversion calculator with ounces, cups, grams, etc.

Today, for... Tue, 6 Nov 2007 11:18:05 EST How did your first month on SP go? Many of you have hit the one month mark by now! 242 What was easier than you expected? What was harder? Mon, 5 Nov 2007 20:09:15 EST Does anyone do Tae Bo? I saw a Billy Blanks video yesterday and it looked like a great way to do cardio and get those muscles lean and mean. It seemed like it might be a fun way to work out and it might teach me some defensive moves for when I am skinny and gorgeous and fighting off all those men! Hahaha!
216 Sat, 3 Nov 2007 12:22:22 EST Your short term goals I've noticed that a few of you have some short term goals, like by Christmas or by a birthday. What is your next short term goal?

Mine is to be in size 16's by Christmas. I'm not sure what weight that would be. I kinda breezed through 16's a few years ago, almost directly skipped from 14's to 18's. :( Anyway, right now I'm comfortably in 20's, and can squeeze into 18's. Fri, 2 Nov 2007 11:03:09 EST Halloween Candy I'm going to post here how many peices of Halloween Candy I am allowing myself tonight. Feel free to do the same, and check back tomorrow to see if you were able to stay on track. :)

I will only eat 4 peices of candy. Wed, 31 Oct 2007 11:26:29 EST I lost it !! I got the stomach flu last week that put me out of commission and from there lost my groove(fitness & nutrition). So, I tried to get back in it Monday - and Lordy, Lordy - I can't find my mo-jo. Do you have any suggestions??

Mitzi 46 Tue, 30 Oct 2007 17:47:22 EST Measurements? I've been trying to take my measurements each week when I weigh myself. I'm having trouble figuring out where to take my hip measurement. I've been taking my waist measurement an inch or so above my belly button. I guess I have a short torso, because if I follow the directions on the measurement page and measure 7 inches below, then I am below my pelvic bone.
Should the measurement be at the top point of my pelvic bone? Should the measurement be around my butt? Does it really matter? Th... Sun, 28 Oct 2007 21:07:21 EST Has anyone changed their fitness goals? I realized that I am exercising much more than what I thought I was. 30 minutes of cardio a day is about half of what I was doing, so I put in 60 minutes per day and it really increased my calories allowed for the day. I have had really good weight loss so far. I am trying to decide if I can eat those extra calories and slow down the weightloss, or if I should keep doing what I have been doing? I have lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks!! What do you all think? Wed, 24 Oct 2007 16:17:38 EST Action Items I know that SP automatically assigns action items when you're in a stage. I jumped to the next stage, and my action items changed (not totally surprising), and now I feel like I've missed out! Is there a way to see the rest of the action items for a stage? (I was in week 3 of stage 2, so I assume there were at least 9 more action items for stage 2.) Mon, 22 Oct 2007 21:52:33 EST New Challenge Eat a rainbow This challenge is to get us to eat our fruits and vegetables. I stole this from another challenge I am doing and it has really helped me.

Example on how to post:

10/22/07

red- bell pepper, apples
blue- raisins
green-spinach, cuccumber
orange- carrots.

and so on. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Happy eating. Mon, 22 Oct 2007 15:09:30 EST Anyone else have an Eye Toy for PS2? My husband just bought me and Eye Toy for his PS2. It came with a personal trainer program that is a 12 week program!! It is based on Tai Chi, Yoga, Dance, Martial Arts, and Aerobics!! Lots of action in the "games" that make up your routine. you put in your body weight, height, and activity level and it designs a program for you. It also tells you how many calories you have burned in a session!! I think this will be great with cold weather quickly approaching!! Mon, 22 Oct 2007 09:15:14 EST How do you deal with exercise plan derailment? I have strength training scheduled for tonight, but I was hired for some interactive theater work tonight--not taking the job was out of the question because a) I could really use the money (who couldn't?) and b) the production company is owned/run by friends of mine, and I know they've been having casting issues lately, which I don't want to contribute to.

In any case, by the time I get home tonight chances are very slim that I'll have the energy or motivation to do my strength tr... Fri, 19 Oct 2007 16:08:14 EST Weekend plans I know for myself the weekend used to be the hardest time. The family was home and they could eat anything. So what are your plans for this weekend and how will you get through?

If you have a plan ahead of time it usually makes it easier. Plus we can all help each other get through those times. Thu, 18 Oct 2007 11:32:16 EST Exercise? Do you get yours in? Are you doing great with your eating but just not getting in the exercise you should? Haveing trouble being motivated to get up off the couch? How much exercise do you do in a day? What kind? Have you started any strength training? Let us know how you are doing. Wed, 17 Oct 2007 09:36:07 EST Fiber Is anyone having trouble getting enough fiber each day? I'm really having a hard time with it, I eat nowhere near the suggested amounts. I really don't like buying fiber supplements, they are so expensive!

Cami Wed, 17 Oct 2007 02:31:43 EST Using meal replacement supplements? I was wondering what everyone's take on using meal replacement shakes or supplements is. I have been told not to use them, to use them if I am not really hunger, etc. I go through phases where I don't really want to eat and don't feel hunger, sometimes for 2 or 3 days. I force myself to eat, but hate it. I end up resenting eating then hate myself for eating when I "did need to". I know that I need to eat, and I do take a mulivitamin daily. What advice to you all have for me? Mon, 15 Oct 2007 13:34:19 EST Decided Not To Weigh In Weekly Is there anyone else that has decided not to weigh in weekly? In the past I have focused so much on losing weight that when I did not I would get discouraged and eventually fall of the wagon. SO this time I decided that I am going to only weigh in on my monthly anniversaries. This way the focus is not on weight loss but healthy living. Anyone else with me on this? LOL or am I an ODDBALL? Mon, 15 Oct 2007 10:48:32 EST I could use a diet buddy! So, It's been two weeks since I've started this program. I've lost 5 lbs (mostly from eating within my ranges and drinking 8 cups of water a day, i didn't really do much exercise). I feel like I could use some good advice and motivation from a buddy that knows what I'm going through. Anybody wanna team up with me to jump start some new habits?? Sun, 14 Oct 2007 19:25:21 EST What types of equipment are you using? I was wondering what types of equipment if any people are working out with and how they like them!!

I currently own 3 weighted balls, 5lbs, and 2- 2lbs.
A stablility ball. Resistance bands. Twist board.

I also have two "Walk away the pounds" videos, several different types of yoga videos, and a tai chi video. I also have a stability ball video. Weighted balls came with a video, but haven't checked it out yet.

I love the stability ball and weighted balls... Sat, 13 Oct 2007 22:00:53 EST Anyone up for a pedometer challenge? I have noticed that a lot of us are using walking as a big source of exercise. Is anyone up for a pedometer challenge?

I have been doing 10,000 steps + a day. My challenge to any takers is to do 1000 steps more than your current daily average!! Sat, 13 Oct 2007 21:51:22 EST How is everyone doing so far? I was excited to find this "class team" forum. It is good for me to see the success of other people who started when I did. I am great at making excuses and saying things like:

"I PACING MYSELF"

"I'm just getting started"

"I'm sure the weight will start coming off soon."

I am sure that many, if not most of you will lose faster nd more consistently than I will, and I am glad to be in your company. So PLEASE email me with your successes. I need to... Sat, 13 Oct 2007 15:18:53 EST HELP 46

Please help. My husband and I went out to breakfast and I ate over half my calories for the day. Now that I am down that far I have the munchies. I was fine before I put in the food but now that I know I have very little left my brain is saying it wants food. It has only been 2 hours since I ate a big breakfast so I couldn't possibly be hungry. Sat, 13 Oct 2007 11:58:57 EST Building muscle and retaining water? A friend of mine was blogging about his weight-loss woes, and a mutual friend of ours told him, "when you start a new workout routine your muscles retain a ton of water right away, and it takes approx. a month for the muscles to release that water (once you're used to the new weights, or whatever) so don't be discouraged!! you're gonna drop like 5-10 lbs all at once when your muscles finally let go of that water, trust me, speaking from experience =)"

I've never heard of this befor... Fri, 12 Oct 2007 20:57:26 EST How do you get your protein in? So this last week I started to realize that I'm not getting all the protein I should be. I never really crave meat, nuts, beans, etc. So I really only eat them at lunch and dinner. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to increase my protein intake (other than something like a carrot wrapped in turkey, since that doesn't sound appetizing to me at all!)? How do you get your protein? Thu, 11 Oct 2007 20:18:40 EST Has anyone "Set up shop" yet in the Kitchen? I got on a cleaning spree today and decided to clean out the kitchen cabinets. As I was throwing out old stale stuff, I was also trying to eliminate all the junk in the cabinet. I realized that 90% of the food in my cabinet was junk. Hamburger helpers, Homestyle Bake meals, TONS of pasta that was refined flour. Question is, do I throw out a hundred $ worth of groceries or is there some way that I can make them HEALTHIER for my family and me? So of the stuff isn't soo bad, but I have high...
