I haven't been swimming for many years and have forgotten allot. My biggest problem is kicking with the kick board I either stay in one place or move backward. Today I got a super headache in my forehead. I keep telling myself don't give up and bless my coaches heart he keeps telling me I'm getting better. It's great to connect with some other swimmers!!

HappySoul Sat, 9 Aug 2008 17:09:41 EST Glad there's team dedicated to swimmers http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x12597x17426736 I'm an ex-swimmer who has taken about a 12 year hiatus. I've been swimming in duathlons because I didn't realize there were masters swim programs. At my last race, a fellow competitor told me about the team she was on and this morning, I had my first practice. Man, did it kick my bum, but there's only up from here. I'm in the slowest lane, but look forward to improving my time and stroke.

Looking forward to conversing with other swimmers looking to lose a little weight along ... Wed, 6 Aug 2008 12:02:51 EST Hey Team! http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x12597x17308842 Hi! I have been a swimmer my whole life until about 2004. I was 3 seconds away from qualifying for the Olympic trials that year but got injured and couldn't train. I was also a competitive swim coach and taught private lessons for many years. I'm almost 25 now and since it's been so long, I'm really itching to get back into the pool. Can't afford to join a gym yet but maybe in a month, then I am looking forward to participating in the team challenges! :) Really want to get to know all of you ... I'm not an athlete by any means, but I've been walking on the treadmill (at the local Y) for a couple of months now, and have recently rediscovered my love of swimming. I'm looking forward to integrating swimming into my exercise program. I'm also looking forward to participating in some of the challenges our new team leader is suggesting!
Tue, 29 Jul 2008 17:30:46 EST Suggestions for Team Challenges Please! http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=6905x12597x17175149 I am making this a sticky topic so anytime you have an idea for a challenge, just post it here. I'm new and thought I'd share my summer kick.

During the winter I swim in a lap pool at a club. No deep end. Summertime brings me to an outdoor pool for 2 1/2 months. It has a deep end at one end of the lap area (25 yards). It is so great to do my laps outside!

Anyway, instead of bringing my kickboard this summer, I've been ending my workout with 15 mninutes ... Thu, 26 Jun 2008 21:58:55 EST Hi Everyone! http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x12597x15727595 In January I set a goal not to count laps but to swim 70 minutes 5 days a week. In March I passed out and ended up in the ER and it was vertigo from water in the ear. My doctor is just now letting me back in the water. I get to go back tomorrow and I am thrilled! I had set a weight loss goal for this year and lost 35 pounds since January 1 until I had my experience and I gained back 11 pounds. So here I am, ready, set, go! I was trying to lose for a family reunion and now the reunion has come... Wed, 11 Jun 2008 19:41:21 EST hiii!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=0x12597x15702399 hello fellow swimmers! swimming is one of my passions, I love it so much and couldn't imagine my life without it. :) I started swimming with a club team at 8 years old and now I'm swimming for my college team. actually I'm getting in the pool tomorrow morning for the first time since the college season ended in february :-) I can't wait! I'm running and strength training every afternoon after work and I'm really excited to add swimming to my program! :) Wed, 11 Jun 2008 01:04:10 EST Swimming - doesn't burn as much? http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=0x12597x13903410 I actually read on the internet the other day that you don't burn as many calories swimming (as opposed to running or other land based exercise) because your body doesn't have to work so hard to cool off.

What do you think? Is this true? Thu, 10 Apr 2008 14:29:33 EST Hi Folks! http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x12597x13762911 I got back into swimming about 2 years ago. My exercise of choice had been running, but alas, I developed runner's knee and could no longer keep it up.
So I joined the Y and jumped into the pool. I'm so glad I did, too. What a great way to stay in shape, don't you think?

Anyway, just thought I'd say hi and I hope you all get to your fitness goals this spring! Tue, 11 Mar 2008 01:09:54 EST Hello! http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x12597x12386968 Glad to find this place. I'm in Minnesota, swimming at a new club, but not finding time to do it lately.

It's been so cold here and it's really hard to swim, even though it's indoors, when it's frigid outside. Plus, I've had a cold since the first of January.

Anyway, looking forward to meeting the other members and talking about swimming.
