I'm not new to exercise and fitness, I've been on my journey for years and years, health problems kept me from the gym for about 2 years and I gained a significant amount of weight. Try adding fruit for some flavouring if y... Thu, 1 Apr 2010 22:02:47 EST Weekly Challenge: March 28-April 1 Sorry for not posting a challenge last week! We moved across town this weekend, so I've been entirely focused on packing & unpacking.

Another new month is about to start, and we're already into spring! Even with the wind, I'm happy to have winter behind us & see new life in the plants. Does your routine need some new life as well? This week, try a new exercise, or perhaps the same exercise in a new place. Change up your routine a little and see what it does for your motivation & m... Sat, 27 Mar 2010 21:28:43 EST Weekly Challenge: March 14-20 Well, a few lucky people among us are having spring break this week; for the rest, it's life as usual. The good news is that spring OFFICIALLY starts on Saturday-- finally!

So, take this week to "spring clean" your life. Have the cobwebs crept over your motivation? Is there a thick layer of dust (literal or figurative) on your workout? Maybe your desk drawer at work is bare of good snacks & needs to be replenished. Take stock & see where you can "clean up" your act to meet your hea... Sat, 13 Mar 2010 08:26:51 EST Weekly Challenge: Mar 7-13 Choose your own adventure this week! I have a full plate & no ideas.

My goal: Get this full plate emptied! ;) Tue, 9 Mar 2010 20:04:27 EST SP Emails The team leaders were asked to announce a change in the emails you may be receiving from Spark People. Due to a high volume of complaints, the SP team opted EVERYONE out of receiving the team digests. (Those are the emails you get on Sundays with the popular messageboard posts, new members, etc.)

If you like getting the Team Digests, you must opt back in. This is true of EVERY team you are on, not just the Lubbock Sparkers. So, if you are glad to see them out of your inbox, take no... Mon, 8 Mar 2010 19:35:09 EST HELLO!! Hello Lubbock Sparkers. I am new to spark people, but not new to the Diet world. I've been battling my weight all my life, but it really got bad after the birth of baby number 3 of 4 when my Thyroid gland decided to stop working. Since then, I can smell of chocolate and gain 10 pounds, but if I want to lose that 10 pounds it takes an act of God(whom I depend on entirely)and SEVERAL months of hard work. If I am not working on losing weight, I am gaining. It is very frustrating 234</em... Mon, 8 Mar 2010 10:23:35 EST March Challenge With the warmer weather coming our way (although not this weekend, apparently), I'm sure everyone is ready to get outside. The March challenge is just that-- take the opportunity to enjoy an activity outdoors. Maybe even try something you haven't done before! Sun, 28 Feb 2010 13:01:21 EST Weekly Challenge: Feb 28-Mar 6 Spread the Spark! This week, invite someone else (friend, spouse, child, coworker) to join you in a healthy living activity. Do you go for a walk on your lunch break or after dinner? Are you making an uber-yummy healthy dish that you're able to make extra, so you can share with a friend?

Bring someone along on your journey this week. They don't have to be convinced to continue; just get them to try it. Sun, 28 Feb 2010 12:58:14 EST Weekly Challenge: Feb 21-27 Last week of February already! Wow!

How are your goals doing? Many people look to a new week or a new month as a time to make a new beginning. And while every minute gives you the chance to make a new beginning, if starting a new week helps you, then take advantage of it!

Take this last week of February to finish out this month strong and ready to take on March. Sat, 20 Feb 2010 10:55:51 EST Needing to lose weight for sure. Hi my name is Bobby I am a female and I am 58. I just started spark and I need to loose 39 pounds. I need all the support I can get. Wed, 17 Feb 2010 22:40:10 EST Weekly Challenge: Feb 14-20 Choose your own adventure this week! Sat, 13 Feb 2010 12:16:34 EST Weekly Challenge: Feb 7-13 I'm going to cheat & put in the one I need this week! 211

This week's challenge is to go to bed & get up on time. I can already hear people with small children shouting, "Easier said than done!" Yes, it is. But I don't mean to schedule yourself an unrealistic bedtime & then be annoyed that you can't stick with it all week long. Choose a bedtime & wake-up time that YOU can live with that will still give you adequate rest.

Yesterday at work, we were talking abou... Sat, 6 Feb 2010 07:34:13 EST New to spark, not new to working out. Hey guys. I am giving spark a try because getting fit is easier when you have support. I need to lose about ten pounds but am more concerned with firming my muscles than the number on the scale. I currently have a rotator cuff injury so I can't do anything with my arm. Right now I am mainly watching my diet and getting 30 minutes of varied cardio in per day. If you have any ideas of other ways to exercise without using my arm I'm up for suggestions. Or take a new route around your neighbourhood, or find a park you have... Mon, 18 Jan 2010 19:32:41 EST working mom new to spark! My name is Priscilla and I live in Texas. I joined spark to create and maintain a healthy lifestyle. My goal is to loose about 10lbs and work out regularly instead of my past push it and quit it routine. I need spark friends!!
It's hard for me to get into a work out routine when I work all day and want to spend time with my 16 month old in the evening. Anyone have advice? Wed, 13 Jan 2010 12:07:05 EST new Hey i am new to spark people. I have lived in Lubbock for 18 years or so. I am just going slow and steady. I am trying to not think about the finish line but the race itself. Baby steps add up to giant leaps. I need a buddy so if there are any takers. I would prefer a woman. Nothing against men but I am just trying to be safe. I am 23 and I have been dating a wonderful man for 2 and a half years. I would love a walking buddy to walk at the mall or at one of the parks. Just let me know!!! Tue, 12 Jan 2010 03:15:20 EST Not exactly new! I am wondering if there are any other men in Lubbock using Sparkpeople or am I the only one? Sat, 9 Jan 2010 19:09:49 EST Another newbie I'm also a graduate math student struggling to find a balance between work, class, and my health. All too often my health is left to fall to the side.

I'm excited about the support this site creates and hope it keeps me honest.

Also, I've been looking for a good place to ride my bike that is out of the way of traffic. Does anyone ride or know of any good locations? Would anyone be willing to ride with me? Fri, 8 Jan 2010 23:32:35 EST Grad Student Needing Balance I'm a graduate student in mathematics and education at Texas Tech University. I take 13 hours every semester and teach at least 6 hours a week. Over the last several months, I have let my schedule determine when, where, and what I eat. It has also been my excuse for absolutely no physical activity. I'm tired of this lifestyle and I'm hopeful sparkpeople will help be regain balance and control. Fri, 8 Jan 2010 19:38:42 EST Half Ironman Anyone know if there is a Half Ironman event around Lubbock anytime? I have never done anything like that but run, swim and bike and thought it might be a good long term challenge for me.

I am not so interested in the marathon thing because it is just too much running I prefer the idea of the changing from running to biking to swimming or whatever order they go in. LOL

Any thoughts or ideas. Fri, 1 Jan 2010 12:45:08 EST January Challenge Yes, we all know the dreaded words: New Year's Resolution. And we've all read the articles or heard the news reports about how long resolutions last. I hope this team will grow and get more active! It's such an awesome way for us to locally become involved in sparking up our lives if we can spread the enthusiasm! My biggest frustration has been that when I first signed up I didn't put any weight loss goals, or any of that kind of set up. I also see a little tracker at the bottom of some people's posts saying where they started and what their goal weight is, and I would love to know how to set this up. Thanks for any help! I'm sorry to tell you all that my 20 year old son Aaron is in the hospital. At 350 this afternoon I was checking on him and found the bathroom door locked. Once I got it unlocked I found him unconcious in the bathtub full of bloody water. He'd tried to commit suicide. He'd cut his neck and arms and has needed 30+ stitches and 30+ steri-strips to boot. What a terrible thing for a mother to have to experience. He will be in a psychiatric facility for some time until they deem him safe to r... This is a big city and we have lots of members. I don't want to see the Lubbock Sparkers die. I did volunteer to take over leadership of this team. I'm not sure if it would help or not, but our last leader hasn't been active lately. Is anybody else on board for getting our team to be more active? Tue, 10 Feb 2009 11:31:04 EST New to Lubbock Sparkers I am not actually in Lubbock, yet. Dh and I will be moving in August, but our hearts and minds are already there. I am new to spark people and so excited to see that their is a Lubbock Team.

I am a mom of 3 boys, and a special education teacher. I have about 18 pounds to loose. I would love to be there by the end of the school year. Wed, 4 Feb 2009 22:45:19 EST To Good Home I have a female lab/heeler mix that needs a good home. We have had her for about three years. She is GREAT with kids and other animals. My mother-in-law used to live with us and there was always someone home. But she moved out and recently my husband took a new job where he is in one place all day. I work full time and all of my kids are in school so the house is empty everyday. She is very sweet and need a lot more attention than what we can give her. She would be an awesome companion... LOL I jacked this idea from another team and I think it's well worth all of us trying!

For this challenge I will begin by challenging someone to do a specific task and whoever decides to accept that challenge, completes the task, and then challenges someone else to do another task. As we tag each other to do maybe 20 crunches, or drink an extra glass of water today, or to eat a fresh veggie, etc. we all benefit by becoming... YAY ME!!! lol Anyway, if anybody else is going to run in the race, then I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to meet you! Let me know. Wed, 28 Jan 2009 10:13:47 EST Local health clubs I was curious if anyone had any information on the single membership prices on some of the lubbock health clubs? I'm looking to join in mid to late feb or march. I wanted to check out the club and prices myself but I seem to have gotten another cold from my daughter/the hospital visit, whatever. So freakin' annoying, but anyways, any information and help would be great. I'm in SW Lubbock and the bodyworks for women is the closest place to me but I fear that it may also be too costly. Thu, 22 Jan 2009 09:54:33 EST Yet another Newbie!! I am to 4 kids! I work full time and have a very busy schedule! Between soccer, gymnastics, school activites and work I am exhausted come 900pm! So I thought I might hang out with you,... Sat, 20 Dec 2008 10:49:41 EST POWER Today, several people brought Christmas cake, candy, and other treats. Last year, I consumed thousands and thousand of calories a day by tasting everything. I had an awesome realization today. I have the POWER. The food does not have the power. How many times have you heard, "The chocolate was calling my name." "I couldn't resist." "It was so good, I had to have another piece." In the past, I have acted like the food had control. BUT . . . here is the difference this time - I HAVE CO... Wed, 17 Dec 2008 12:34:08 EST 2009 is THE year..... ....Let's get there together Hi. Oh, and believe me, I can and have in the past years. My survival tactics this year were simple. Eat vegies, shrimp (no dip), little portions, and try not to drink everything in sight. I kept reminding myself that: The food was not going anywhere. If I really needed more, it was going to be there. Also - STEP AWAY FROM THE BUFFET TABLE. Don't stand near the food.
