I am trying to stick with the vegan lifestyle but I keep running out of ideas, can some one help me with ideas and recipes for lunch, super and breakfast? Tue, 4 Feb 2014 20:31:51 EST Early morning walkers So far me and another man walk 6 miles 6 times a week (about a 14:30 minute mile) on Ft Jackson, we start at 0630 and have coffee when done. If you would like to walk with us please let me know . We are both retired military and I live on post, walking on post is safe as the walk ways and roads are wide enough and the speed limit is slow enough to keep us safe. So call if you're interested. Getting on base all you need is your drivers licence.

220 Tue, 4 Feb 2014 08:54:05 EST New Mom looking to workout I'm looking to lose weight after baby. I work full-time, go to school full-time and find it hard to find time to exercise. My goal is to lose 100 pounds over the next year. My short term goal is to drop at least 50 pounds by summer. A... Sat, 5 Jan 2008 22:28:52 EST January 2008 Chit-Chat Happy New Year, everyone.

We got the new year off to a good start with some good exercise time. We even found a walking trail that's close to the house and a very nice walk. Walking through the woods is so much nicer (and easier on the joints) than walking on asphalt and the dog finds more things to sniff!

Let's all make this year THE year we make fantastic progress toward our goals. With perseverance and the encouragement of each other I know we can do it. We have ... Tue, 1 Jan 2008 17:31:16 EST SparkAmerica Columbia is in 71st place for the Spark America challenge. Let's see if we can move to the top 50. I know we're much smaller than cities like Atlanta or New York but we have the determination to do this! Set up your Spark America goals and let's reach for those exercise minutes!
285

rica_home.asp
Sat, 29 Dec 2007 12:08:34 EST Newbie from Columbia SC ready to strive for goal Looking to lose 50 pounds to a weight of 160 currently 210. Is anyone else going to try?

I've starting condtioning myself this past week. I've never been able to run more than 3/4 of a mile before, so this will be interesting.

-R Tue, 18 Dec 2007 09:34:10 EST Newbie to Spark AND Columbia Hello. My name is Susan. I'm 36. Mother of 3 girls ages 12, 6 & 3. I recently moved to Columbia, SC from Jackson, MO. I've decided to reaffirm my dieting strategies by joining SparkPeople. I'm hoping it gives me the motivation and the affirmation that I need to be accountable for my choices. I tried doing it on my own, but I'd let myself slide because I was the only one who knew I was cheating on myself. What did it matter?--that's what I told myself. Until I stepped on the scale 2 w... Mon, 10 Dec 2007 22:06:11 EST December chit-chat 2007 "Take inventory. Identify all the situations (office parties, mall food courts, family gatherings) that make it difficult for you to eat healthy during the holiday season. Make a plan for staying on track in every situation."

This is today's advice on the Spark December calendar. What a great way to start the month, especially a month that is typically full of pitfalls for those of us trying to live healthier (and thinner) lives. The calendar is full of great tips for the whole ... Sat, 1 Dec 2007 07:36:00 EST November Chit-Chat 2007 190
We're entering the time of year that typically meant weight gain for me - all those holiday goodies combined with the short days almost always resulted in 5 - 10 pounds by spring! Last year was the first year in a long time that didn't happen, thank to SparkPeople.

Let's all make November a good month. If you have found something that helps you stay on track, let us know - if it works for you it might help the rest of us! Fri, 2 Nov 2007 22:34:46 EST Who's got plans for this weekend? Wife, Pugs, and I are going to Doggie camp in NC.

-R Thu, 18 Oct 2007 19:50:40 EST Anything fun going on in Cola right now? I need to get out and do something other than work 9-5 every day. Anybody know of anything fun going on right now or some fun things to do that I may not have done yet? (besides zoo, Frankies, riverwalk, park, etc.) Mon, 8 Oct 2007 23:15:45 EST October Chit-Chat 2007 Wow - it's October already! Doesn't it seem like it was just Christmas?

We are entering one of the most difficult times in the year to diet - from the Halloween candy to all the Thanksgiving goodies and then on into Christmas and New Year - this is the time of year I always used to gain 10lbs every year!

You can enjoy those holiday potlucks - just take a small spoonful of everything that looks good and eat slowly - it's hard to not go back for seconds when everyone ... Mon, 1 Oct 2007 16:07:08 EST Campus Water I have a problem.

I have a goal of drinking 8 glasses of 8 oz. water. I'm at Mizzou's campus most of the day, so I fill up my water bottle with water from the drinking fountain to save money.

The problem is, Mizzou's water tastes like something died in the purification process. Is there any way to cheaply flavor the water? Thanks! Tue, 25 Sep 2007 13:26:50 EST Am I missing something here? Oftentimes I spend several minutes to hunt down and enter good approximations of the food and quantities that I am eating into SP. But then if I have leftovers for lunch the next day, I have to repeat the there anyway I can just copy and paste a particular entry (or set of entries)?

-R Sat, 22 Sep 2007 09:01:12 EST Who makes it harder for you? Work arounds? My husband thinks that a steak should be the size of a dinner plate, which is part of the reason I got here in the first place! I only ate meat once or twice a week when I met him but that is now reversed and I only eat vegetarian once or twice a week. He also has a bad habit of picking up cheesecake or cookies when he gets take-out - usually we're eating take-out because I have a deadline to meet or I'm not feeling well - he gets the desserts to make me feel better!

Two sol... Fri, 31 Aug 2007 21:46:30 EST Walking at Richland Fashion Mall Does anyone here (besides me) particpate in the walking club at Richland Fashion Mall? I've just recently started tracking my miles and I'm confused by how they say 4 laps on the 2nd floor = 1 mile, but it takes 5 laps on the 1st floor = 1 mile. Aren't they about the same amount of space?

-R Wed, 22 Aug 2007 18:43:48 EST Memory Walk 2007 - October 27 Hi, Columbia Sparkers! Mon, 20 Aug 2007 10:32:23 EST Breast Cancer Walk October 6 Is anyone else participating in this year's Breast Cancer walk? I know it's a huge event and I'll be walking with a team, but it would be nice to meet some other Columbia Sparkers there. Sat, 18 Aug 2007 15:53:53 EST Newbie I am Pekky, from Venezuela. I am vegetarian, I love my curves (I just want to lose a little volume) and try to go to the gym five times a week. This is my third week in my exercise program, so I figured out what to do for permanent changes.

I tend to cook Indian and Venezuelan food sometimes. My biggest issues seem to be portion control and counting calories. I'll admit it.
I'm here in Columbia too. I've been here 27+ years and I consider myself a crusty local eccentric. I spend a lot of time in Five Points. I'm glad this board has a local connection. It makes it more interesting and adds a tangible element to the internet. I've been working out at the gyms on post for 7 years now. I've lost 50+ pounds and kept most of it off. I enjoy the gym, I like the free weights and I like the way I feel when I am DONE!
(Hate Wed, 25 Jul 2007 19:50:36 EST Where in Columbia do you like to exercise? I love walking at RiverFront park - there are almost always enough people there for me to feel safe walking alone, the trail is paved and flat, and there are mile markers along the way so I always know how far I've walked.

If you are just starting a walking program or if, like me, you have an injury that currently prevents you from walking on hills, this is a great place to walk. People also ride bikes and roller skate down there. Getting outdoors relieves stress for me mor... Thu, 12 Jul 2007 08:35:07 EST Daily chit-chat July 2007 This is a spot to just chat about your day, your hobbies, your concerns.

As some people still use dial up connections I'll create a new thread every month as threads take a long time to load on a slow connection once there are a couple of thousand posts.

I look forward to chatting with everyone.

Hedi
Tue, 10 Jul 2007 15:50:21 EST Welcome Columbia Sparkers - Introduce Yourself Hi Everyone. My name is Hedi and I am the team leader for the Columbia team. The friends that I have made on the message boards have helped me stick with this lifestyle change for 18 months now so I know the value of supportive people. Some of the other teams I'm a member of offer various challenges that keep me motivated when I'm starting to slack off. Despite a few set backs, I am slowly losing weight and quickly improving my health. My family eats different foods now because we enj... Tue, 10 Jul 2007 15:45:42 EST
