A mile at "walking speed" used to be 2500 steps and is now 2200 steps (determined by taking my average number of steps to do a mile on the same treadmill, over a number of trials). After I walked my mile, I ran the "Heart Rate" program on the treadmill for my age and weight... it suggested a heart rate target of 137 and off I went. <BR> <BR> It started off extremely slowly (2.0mph... which was actually my normal walking speed 2 years ago!) I heard it *beep* every few seconds as it changed my setting to bring my heart rate up, but the speed was still the slow 2.0... it took me a while to realize that it was changing the incline of the treadmill... at about 11% inclin... Well, for me... 8:00 minute half mile. 3.8mph. Still walking, technically. <BR> <BR> I've gotten back into the walking/running portion of a program called 5BX. The lowest "running" level is an 8min half mile. I couldn't do it last autumn... I couldn't keep up with the oxygen needs of my legs and they would burn and cramp. I'm pretty sure I couldn't do a 16 minute mile, though... not yet. The lowest rung of walking is a 21minute mile, so I did that instead. Wed, 18 Aug 2010 12:13:48 EST ATL Georgia!
