Made up for a little of it today - 86 minutes total. Good start to the week! Mon, 24 Jan 2011 22:17:35 EST January 16 - 22 Had a GLORIOUS walk today--first 10 min to church, then 40 min through the park. Nice & crispy, but all bundled up & felt EXHILARATING!!! 311 Sun, 16 Jan 2011 16:50:22 EST January 9 - 15 I'm on Day 10 of the 28-day bootcamp and I'm more aware than ever of how I'd been neglecting my strength training. I think I've finally broken through to some real fat-burning. My weight is starting to come back down. I am also watching my sodium intake a little more closely, thanks to a nudge from a fellow Sparkie. I'm hoping that I continue to see progress this week! Today I did 35 minutes on the treadmill. Too cold!! Mon, 13 Dec 2010 22:40:53 EST December 5 - 11 Well, I OBVIOUSLY have to get into a winter-time routine, since I can't do much outside on a regular basis. If I don't, I know I'll back-slide, so it's imperative. Whenever it's too cold or snowy or icy (pretty much, like NOW), I commit to doing EITHER a Biggest Loser dvd OR 60 minutes worth of SP workout videos.
Gosh, I REALLY liked the nicer weather for exercising/walking/running outdoors. No wonder Californians can stay tan & remain in shape year-round! Mon, 15 Nov 2010 13:45:18 EST Nov. 7 to 13 Good start to the week : 4.62 miles in 57 minutes. It was chilly and windy. My hat kept trying to blow off and my shoes kept coming untied. It sure was pretty tho! Sun, 7 Nov 2010 12:07:26 EST November 2010 This month, how about we pick our own, personal challenges and post our progress here? Sharing is okay. I'm struggling just to do anything, and others are trying to add to a routine. What say you?

My goal in November is to workout 3x a week - at least two of the workouts should be cardio. It is 13 miles away at odd times 9am and 5:30pm four days a week and then Friday at 6pm and Sat at 9am. The instructor is intense a very good work out. So, I signed up for three months to test if I am going to stick with it. After two days, I feel like rubber legs. Yesterday did about 2 1/2 (1 hour Zumba and 1 1/2 hours square dance) hours of dance and strength training. Today, 1/2 hour cardio plus one hour of Zumba.

Blessings,
... Working the next two days, but I might get called off tomorrow. We only had 10 patients when I left on Sunday and it's my turn to be called off. If so I will use the time to go for a bike ride instead. I haven't worked out much recently and I really need to get back into it. I'm gaining and gaining. grrr. Mon, 5 Jul 2010 23:08:58 EST June 27(ish) - July 3 Better late than never to start a new week, eh?

Haven't worked in out in weeks. Tue, 29 Jun 2010 16:44:15 EST June 20 - 26 It's Sunday evening once again. Preparing for the week ahead. I'm traveling to Indiana next weekend with my daughter for her college orientation. I want to leave the house in complete order so that I'm not overwhelmed when I return from the trip. Bringing my running shoes/clothes with and hoping I can find time to fit a couple of runs in. Sun, 6 Jun 2010 09:26:22 EST May 30 - June 5 I do not like exercising in the heat. My huddle post says that I hate it. At first we were thinking mexican - somewhere with music? We'll be a group of about 6-8 and do not want to travel too far from Cary/Crystal Lake. We went to Dirty Nellies in Palatine for her sisters 50th a couple of years ago - looking for something a little lower key. Good food, maybe music, fun atmosphere. for Tomorrow! I welcome all suggestions!
Oh, and calorie wise - no concern... Fri, 20 Feb 2009 11:26:37 EST 5K/10K Runs in the Area.. If anyone has a list of events in the area, I would be interested.. (I think I hear an echo)

I actually got up yesterday and did the dvd from the library before returning it. I only made it thru 20 minutes. I'm sure that three months ago I would've burned thru it with no problems. Boy, have I regressed. It's very depressing, especially when coupled with all the holiday pigging out. Boy, do I have the framework for a couple of really good new year resolutions!

I didn't work out last night (Saturday night) because we went ... Sun, 28 Dec 2008 17:02:22 EST Weekly Check-in (Dec 21 - 27) Well I slept in a little, but I got myself out in time to squeeze in a 30 minute workout to a DVD. I was then going to shovel the drifts off the driveway, but when I went out to get the paper and felt how cold it was, I figured the drifts could wait! Sun, 21 Dec 2008 16:13:46 EST Weekly Check-in (Dec. 14 - 20) Slept in. No workout. Maybe tonight.

Got our tree today and put it up. Took a while to get it to stand straight in the stand. Now we are letting it relax before we string on the lights and pop on the ornaments tomorrow.

I reserved a kickboxing dvd at the library. Maybe it will be ready for me tomorrow. I just wanted to try before I buy considering that I've been disappointed with my last two purchases. Sun, 14 Dec 2008 18:58:02 EST Weekly Check-in (Dec 7 - 13) Hey everyone!

I slept in again today, but I did do some working out last night. I was flipping through the channels and hit FitTv with a Gilad show playing, so I joined in for about 25 minutes because it looked fun.

I have to study now for my final exam. I hope to do some working out tonight and tomorrow morning.

So cold today! Sun, 7 Dec 2008 15:19:05 EST Weekly check-in (Nov. 30 - Dec. 6) Slept in. Went to church, ate lunch. Trying to get up the motivation to study. Feeling a bit better. Maybe I'll workout tonight. Kick those icky feelings away! Sun, 30 Nov 2008 16:18:23 EST Weekly Check-in (Nov. 23 - Nov. 29) Slept in - was out late last night. I'll be studying most of the day with a break for church and later on to have dinner with some of my girl friends. I hope to get in some exercise, but don't pin your hopes on it! Sun, 23 Nov 2008 11:25:15 EST Weekly check-in (Nov. 16-22) Slept in again today. Felt great. I hope to work out tonight, but we'll see. Just don't have the gusto to do much. I've had a really bad month of eating and working out. I swore I wouldn't let this happen this semester, but it did anyway. I've got to make it a priority again.

How is everyone else doing? Sun, 16 Nov 2008 16:41:36 EST Weekly check-in (Nov 9 - Nov 15) Slept in today. Horrible week for working out and eating last week. The third bad week in a row for me. I've really got to get back on track!

I'll be getting up early Monday - I promise! I have my second exam on Thursday and I'm already behind in my studying. I'll be spending a lot of time on my behind in front of this compter for the next few days. Sun, 9 Nov 2008 21:40:23 EST Weekly Check-in (Nov. 2 to Nov. 8) I love this time change! It enabled me to go out for an early walk in daylight!!! Looking forward to the next week and getting OUTSIDE for my workout.

I got out for a 56 minute walk/jog this morning. I had planned on raking and mowing today, but just feel really lazy. Maybe tomorrow. Sun, 2 Nov 2008 17:18:37 EST Weekly Check-in (Oct 26 - Nov 1) Hello all! Who's up for a great week?

Slept in a bit today then got OUTSIDE for a walk of about 3.5 miles. It was cold, blustery and wonderful. I sure do miss getting outside daily in the mornings - this darn school schedule! I'm already sick of my workout dvds. Doesn't bode well for Winter fitness!

I read of a website you can go to and download workout videos for free. I'm going to check it out when I get some time: Sun, 26 Oct 2008 12:29:53 EST Weekly check-in (Oct. 19 - 25) Whoa, new week already!

Okay, did my weights tonight and some of my kicking. I pulled a muscle and cut it short so as not to aggravate it.

I've had three "hungry" days in a row now. You know, those days where all you want to do is stuff your face full of food? Arrggg!

All sweaty - have to go shower! Sun, 19 Oct 2008 22:43:55 EST Weekly check-in (Oct 12 - 18) Got up a little later than normal and got out for a walk - 64 minutes. My first outdoor exercise in over a week. Felt great! Since the kids have off of school tomorrow I plan on getting outside for my workout again.

Husband decided against going up to Lake Geneva today for whatever reason. Maybe tomorrow. Sun, 12 Oct 2008 13:40:26 EST Weekly check-in (Oct 5 - 11) Slept in today - no workout. I overate a lot over the weekend with the birthday party. And that overeating will continues because we have a ton of leftovers. ug.

I'll sweat it out tomorrow! Sun, 5 Oct 2008 21:41:13 EST We need a challege! Any ideas what we can do for a challege here? Wed, 1 Oct 2008 23:50:09 EST I shopped from an "ad" today... Which I haven't done for a long time. But with food prices continuing to rise, I feel I have no choice but to start to shop more "consciously" again. So I circled the specials I wanted to take advantage of in the Jewel flyer and off I went. I forgot how time consuming it was to try to save a few more dollars! I spent double the amount of time that I normally would. I was shopping from the "buy 10 (or 5 or 4)to save more" insert and had to keep stopping to count my items to make sure I was bu... Tue, 30 Sep 2008 19:52:47 EST Weekly check-in (Sept 28 - Oct 4) Daisy, take it easy! Walking is good for you even if it doesn't burn as many calories. Just walk for a really, really long time! LOL

Got up a little later today since there is no rush on Sunday to get anywhere before noonish. Did a walk/jog - 64 minutes. Jogged for 25 minutes - 2.5 miles. It was a nice, cool day with a cooling breeze. Then the family and I walked to mass and back. Now on to the studying! oy. Sun, 28 Sep 2008 14:07:01 EST Weekly check-in (Sept 21 - 27) I started out today doing a 3 mile Leslie Sansone video. Only just over 200 calories. Couldn't do an outside workout since my son and husband were out camping and I couldn't leave the little one alone! I won't be able to get outside tomorrow either. These videos and DVDs are good, but don't burn nearly enough calories compared to my outdoor workouts. Arrrg! Gonna have to figure out something once the snow starts flying. Can't shovel the driveway everyday! lol Sun, 21 Sep 2008 16:19:42 EST Weekly check-in (Sept 14 - 20) New week, new stressors. I have a skill validation on Tuesday afternoon and an exam on Thursday morning. I've started studying already so I'm not cramming quite so much at the end like I did last time. That is just too stressful! Sun, 14 Sep 2008 17:09:18 EST Weekly check-in (Sept. 7 - 13) Hi!

Went out walking early this morning. Actually jogged for 2 miles without stopping! First time for that. Then I walked for 10 minutes and added 6 more minutes of jogging. Felt great. I love fall with the coolness and all the energy it gives you.

We drove up to Green Lake WI today to celebrate my husband's great aunt's 91 birthday. A lot of driving! Plus two meals out. Not a good calorie day. oh well. it happens! Sun, 7 Sep 2008 21:05:42 EST Weekly Check-in (Aug 31 - Sept 6) Happy new week!

Got out early today for an hour's worth of walk/jog. Then I camped out on the computer, studying until about 11. Went to church, had lunch, and back on the computer. Taking a little break now. My goal is to cover the first week's worth of classes today, and the second week's worth tomorrow. On top of that I have homework due too. I had to cancel on my mom's invite to a picnic tomorrow. Just too swamped. Hopefully I can keep on top of it from here on out so I... Sun, 31 Aug 2008 17:27:17 EST Weekly check-in (Aug 24 - 30) Happy new week!

Time to stick with it, or get back on track.

I planned on sleeping in a bit today since I'd been up early every day last week, but my internal body clock must have been re-set already. I got up an hour & 1/2 before my alarm went off. I tried to go back to sleep, but I needed to use the bathroom and my allergies kicked in. So I got up and went walking earlier than intended. 55 minutes - a great start to the week. ;) Sun, 24 Aug 2008 14:15:53 EST Weekly check-in (Aug. 17 - 23) Another week, another chance to get it on track! My eating has been horrible for several weeks now. I want this week to be better. I started out today very badly tho. *sigh*

I did get out for a walk/jog though - 53 minutes

Start school on Tuesday morning. I'm not ready yet! Sun, 17 Aug 2008 22:54:17 EST Weekly check-in (Aug 10 - 17) Other teams do this weekly, so I thought it would be a good thing to do here too! A place to crow about how well you've done, or a place to get some support when needed during the week!

Sunday: slept in, but mowed the lawn
Monday: walk/jog for 63 minutes - lifted weights - martial art-type cardio for 27 minutes. Whew! Mon, 11 Aug 2008 23:23:11 EST What fit activity did you do today? I got out on my bike this morning for almost an hour. Really had to push myself because we were out late last night at a Kane County Cougar game. Had a bit of a hangover this morning from the awesome beer. But the thought of all the calories I stuffed into myself last night got me up and out of bed.

I didn't get my weight workout in last night because of the ball game, so I plan to do it tonight. Thu, 7 Aug 2008 17:44:01 EST What is your favorite thing about working out? When I go for my walks and bike rides, it is the peace and solitude that I enjoy the most. I also like seeing nature - bird, animals, ponds, etc.

When I do my weight workouts, I love the fact that I feel strong afterwards even tho I can't lift anymore.

When I do my martial arts-type cardio workout I love the fact that I'm dripping in sweat afterwards and I feel all-powerful and in control.

What's not to like about working out? ;-) Wed, 6 Aug 2008 14:08:34 EST I'm a slug It's been a bad, bad week for me. It started out on Monday with a 2lb gain (but it's that time of the month, so I expected that), and I haven't worked out worth anything. Plus I've been pigging out.

Gotta have a bad week once in a while, eh? LOL Fri, 1 Aug 2008 17:34:59 EST It's Almost August!!! Hey McHenry!

Summer is going by so fast! How is everyone doing? I had a minor set back last week as it seems I have a tear in my esophogus! How did that happen??? I dont know!!! I am feeling fine, but of course, mom was freaking out which was stressing me out! So, anyways, I am getting that fixed and hoping the doc approves of me keeping up my running schedule. I have not lost any weight, but havent gained a significant amount either - just the normal flux. Can't complain about th... Mon, 28 Jul 2008 17:06:18 EST Teachers? I joined this team about a week ago, I'm looking for others who are teachers as well. I'm starting my first official teaching job this fall in school district U-46. It would be great to network with other teachers in the area! Thu, 24 Jul 2008 11:37:28 EST Making progress Hey, I'm within 5 pounds of my goal! yippie. That goal may move further down because I can't believe this flabby stuff around my belly will be gone in 4 pounds. LOL

I've managed to workout consistanly. My son's martial art instructor invited me to try out a class and I did that last Saturday. I had forgotten how draining nervous energy is! I also ended up pulling a muscle, but it is much better now and it hasn't slowed me down. Can't wait until I get out of school, get a job ... Tue, 22 Jul 2008 21:58:45 EST Beach Been taking the kids to their swimming lessons at Main Beach in CL the past week and a half. I signed them up for afternoon lessons for the first time. Won't do that again! I can't believe how busy the beach gets midday.

I always feel like a bit of a frump there as I set up my chair in the shade, wearing a t-shirt and shorts and read my book as the kids swim. In front of me on the beach are the skinny women in their skimpy bikinis, busy catching some skin cancer - oh! I mean a ... Wed, 16 Jul 2008 13:38:27 EST Eating in the heat Well after our 3rd repair call in 2 days we still don't have a working AC. Tomorrow they are brining a new one. 224 I was a bit frustrated this afternoon when I got the receipt and it said it would have been better to replace than get the repair that happened today. 20 minutes later the AC was stopped again. Ergh! At least they are putting what we paid today toward the install tomorrow. Anyway all day in the heat I've had nothing but the munchies. Not that it's helped me cool... Went to get my hair trimmed and ended up with one of the worst hair cuts of my life. I have to go somewhere else to get it fixed asap. I guess I can forget about growing it out now. *sigh*

On the plus side I got in all three of my weight workouts. whoohoo!!

Just look at all the areas I have to improve on next week! Sun, 15 Jun 2008 16:23:23 EST Ever have one of those days? Yesterday was mine. I got out for my walk/jog, but I had no energy. I was just going thru the motions. I don't know if it was just too hot/humid, or if it was because I didn't eat anything before going out.

Today I was going to get up early and go for a bike ride. I shut off the alarm and slept for a couple extra hours instead. Luckily the lawn needed mowing, so I got my workout in anyway. Those red-winged blackbirds are protecting their nests. They just keep harping at me, and then dive-bombing my head! In the area where they are, I am walking with the sun behind me so I can see their shadows and duck at just the right time. Last year one actually hit me on the head. Good thing I wear a cap! lol Sat, 24 May 2008 14:52:23 EST I love this weather! It's so nice a cool, perfect for outdoor workouts! I've managed to get out everyday this week so far. Hi All,

I am new here and am wondering if you are all aware of all the running races that happen throughout McHenry county over the course of the next six months. Last summer I started out doing the Harvard Milk Day Run (2 miles), something I thought I could never do, and now I am sorta of addicted to these races. I plan on doing one every three or four weeks as little motivational stepping stones to keep my butt in gear. It would be great to have someone to move me along and moti... I've got a ton of weight off my shoulders. Took my 2nd exam today. It's a hybrid course and we take our test from home, online. I had to get it done by midnight tonight. I'd been studying for 4 days trying to get ready for it since I'd fallen behind in my reading. On to the next section!

I've got to start working out again because the stress of school is really getting to me again. I don't want the health problems I had last semester to get hold of me again. Sun, 10 Feb 2008 16:39:21 EST Grab a shovel and do a work-out! Enough snow for you? My husband shovelled the driveway twice, and I did it once. I'll probably do it again tomorrow morning. I sure hope they open up the schools tomorrow! I need the peace and quiet to read and study for my next exam. Wed, 6 Feb 2008 23:12:58 EST January Recap I'd love to hear how the first month of the year was for all of you. What worked for you? I'm just getting so frustrated over here. I'm married with two kids. Over the past few weeks, between the four of us there has been one case of stomach flu, three cases of flu, one ear infection, three cases of pink eye, various sore throats, coughs and colds, and my husband now has a whopping big sinus infection. I'm so sick of sickness. And I want to be a nurse why? ;)

I started 2nd semester of nursing school last Monday. Had my first clinical on... Thu, 17 Jan 2008 13:32:14 EST Anyone ever had these symptoms? My knee is clicking. It's been hurting since last Monday and isn't feeling any better. I wake up at night in pain, and it hurts the worst before I have a chance to loosen it up in the morning, and after long sit-downs (like when at the computer) I have a hard time going down the stairs. I have the most difficult time straightening it completely. The clicking happens when I feel it "lock up" and so I extend it out straight and it kinda clicks into place. Weird, huh?

This all started... Sun, 13 Jan 2008 13:53:14 EST McHenry County Group Forum - Let's Talk! Well, our team is growing slowly but surely. I thought it would be good to have a place to talk about... well, anything! Feel free to continue adding threads. This can just be a place for general, ongoing discussion. Sun, 6 Jan 2008 20:40:25 EST Anyone ready to meet up? I have been thinking for quite a while that perhaps we could do a face to face Spark Meeting in McHenry County, what do you all think?

Lauren Fri, 4 Jan 2008 06:32:10 EST What challenges will be part of your new year? I've joined in on a "500 miles in 2008" running challenge so far. I plan on posting my miles on my sparkpage each day, and then at the end of the month I'll edit it as a summary for the month. I'm really excited about having joined this challenge as I'm not really a "runner" yet, LOL! I'm keeping my eyes open for other interesting challenges. What are you all doing? Wed, 2 Jan 2008 09:28:32 EST Pat yourself on the back! I'm sure you've done something that deserves a "Way to Go!" Big or small, they all matter! Let's get in the habit of recognizing and posting those good things!
Wed, 2 Jan 2008 09:24:19 EST I almost hate to ask... so I'll rephrase before I even type it! (instead of asking "what's your new years resolution) I'm wondering, do you believe in setting a resolution for yourself? Does it work for you? Or do you just enjoy hearing everyone else's and watching their success?

I don't usually set a resolution for myself. I guess I lack the confidence that I'll actually succeed. Also, I'm not sure I see the logic in waiting for the new year to make changes in my life. If I see something that needs to b... Sun, 30 Dec 2007 12:47:46 EST Good news and Bad news Are sometimes exactly the same! Like how my weight is EXACTLY the same as it was 10 days ago. So while I'm a little sad I haven't kept to my goal of 2lbs a week, I guess I'm pleased that I haven't gained anything over the holiday (especially as we've eaten out a ton and no shortage of temptations at work sweet tables!)

So the new goal is to really work hard the next few days, because a favorite thing to do in Disney World (be there Jan 1st - 7th) is to EAT at all of the very nice... Fri, 28 Dec 2007 08:04:13 EST Anyone get any fitness gifts? I received a heartrate monitor and a pair of earmuffs with the headphones inside them! Also a new outfit for working out in, but with really wide legs(at the bottom) so I will probably return the pants. The jacket is real cute though! Thu, 27 Dec 2007 12:04:22 EST How was your holiday? Mine was terrific! What a wonderful day Christmas Day was! Everyone was so happy to be together and we had such a nice time. I always ask my kids for a "no fighting/conflicts" day and I usually do NOT get that wish granted. Yesterday was the exception. Both my daughters gave me exactly what I wanted:) In addition, they printed up certificates that were just wonderful! My oldest will be getting her license soon, and her certificate promises a day for just the tow of us doing all sorts of fu... Wed, 26 Dec 2007 09:09:31 EST I miss the walking/bike trails! I've gotten off my big behind and went out walking three times this week. Yahoo! Not up to my usual 5 days a week, but I'm easing myself back into the routine. But boy am I not liking winter walking! It's not the cold, that is actually invigorating. It's the fact that I have to walk on the streets now. I stick to residential streets, because walking on Golf Course or Barlina is a death wish. But even on the quiet side streets, drivers don't seem to realize that it's okay to cross over ... Fri, 21 Dec 2007 20:44:48 EST Account for the kids? Has anyone set up a separate SP profile for thier kids? I was thinking of doing that to track what my son eats in a day. I'd like to make sure he's getting enough calcuim since he has a dairy allergy and can't drink milk, etc.

I'd like to just do it thru my own SP account, but I don't see that they let you do that. Too easy I guess! Thu, 20 Dec 2007 21:37:22 EST Geeze, it's dead in here! Maybe we should make it a challenge that everyone posts in here at least four times a week!

I'm off of school now and ready to get back on track with my eating and working out. The snow doesn't help (except the shovling part). I can't do my outdoor walk quite so easily now. The side walks are icy and the walking trails are too. I don't like jogging on the roads, but what's the alternative? At least I can hit the weights in the somewhat warm basement! Sat, 15 Dec 2007 15:06:46 EST You're Invited! It has come to my attention that invitations I've sent out to McHenry County teammates have not been received by all. I know Crystal Lake had a parade last weekend, not sure what else is coming up. They do have the Santa House up and running downtown. Holiday Inn usually sponsors a tree decorating/giving party. Post your daily counts for this week here.
I've gotten a bit lazy with the tracking - I really need to work on that. Especially since I'm the one who started this challenge in the first place, LOL!
So, I pledge to track every day this week. PLEASE, come track me down (and feel free to scold me) if I miss a day! Sun, 25 Nov 2007 23:08:14 EST Out Shopping? Not me! I hate crowds, so there is nothing out there at any type of deal that would make me go out today or tomorrow.

I did go out grocery shopping and it was rather pleasant. Not as busy as usual. :)

I really have to get off my duff and get back into the swing of things work-out wise. Maybe tomorrow morning.

Only a few more weeks of school left in the semester, then I get a whole month off. The first 8 weeks of next semester will be tough. I think I do better if I have a chart, to make it more visual. :-/

We'll start this thread on Monday... Sun, 4 Nov 2007 09:36:28 EST I am ALREADY awake! Daylight savings time switches always screw me over. I am an early riser (I have to drive from Cary to Deerfield by 7am every weekday morning) so now I am not only up earlier than I want on the weekend, but it's too dark to even do anything!

Taking a walk later with Ma, Sis and our merry band of 2 dogs and a 4 month old baby. Start the challenge by posting what your streak will be and then keep us updated! Fri, 2 Nov 2007 22:41:41 EST How do you prepare your pumpkin seeds? I have to say that although I am a pretty good cook, I fall way short when it comes to baking the pumpkin seeds each year. I've burned one batch and missed on the seasoning on a second. I have one more cookie sheet full of seeds and I really don't want to ruin them too. I would truly appreciate any suggestions that would help me be more successful in making this treat for my family! Working out has become a bit of a hobby for me and I know it is for some of you. It's fun at times, isn't it? I look forward to learning from you all here in and around Northwest Chicagoland. I mainly shop at Trader Joes and Woodman's in Carpentersville. I feel so bad - we took my 13 year old daughter on a bike ride yesterday (before noon. We started in Algonquin at some parking lot where you ride downhill to get to the trail. Long story short - after 8 miles (which included a stop at DQ) she started to not feel good. We rode with her feeling ill for another 4 miles (really no choice, we had to go on til we reached a public bathroom) and stopped to let her rest, when she proceeded to get sick! My husband had to ride back to the car alone and ... Mon, 8 Oct 2007 10:46:17 EST Just back from a bike ride and I have to say it kicked my butt again! I swear I wasn't thinking the wind would be hard to ride against, but just in case I was wrong I decided to "check" it after 3.5 miles by turning around. Brick wall again! Aaargh! I really wanted to go 12 miles today, but had to settle for 7. Those 3.5 miles home were SO HARD! Fri, 5 Oct 2007 15:52:58 EST OK, I'm back from the orchard... and I have to say that Oriole Springs in Twin Lakes is still my favorite. I did go out to Woodstock and while it was a bit closer, the experience just wasn't as good. It's a smaller orchard with a main parking lot at the entrance (which meant a lot of walking to get back to the good trees). Oriole Springs is a HUGE orchard and you pretty much drive to the different varieties and park right next to the apples of your choice. Ok, I know that the walking is good for you but it would be more di... Fri, 5 Oct 2007 14:09:05 EST Favorite Apple Orchards? I want to pick apples tomorrow, but I haven't decided which direction to go. I grew up in Cary and we went up to Oriole Springs Orchard in Twin Lakes WI without fail every year. I continued that tradition with my own kids up until a couple of years ago when we got too busy to go. Now I understand that the pickings are slim up there this year (is that true for all the orchards nearby? I'm not sure) so I'd like to investigate the possibility of trying out a new orchard (new to us). Any sugg... Thu, 4 Oct 2007 09:53:49 EST Boo! Hiss! Rotten Weather!!! Tue, 2 Oct 2007 23:14:56 EST Handling Halloween With a bunch of holidays coming up, I thought I'd start conversations about how we're handling the pressures, temptations, frustrations with each one. Since Halloween is the first one, come vent away here about how you're handling Halloween and all that candy.

For some it's not an issue, but for others, it can be a real diet breaker. And if anyone wants to reveal their Halloween costume, then that'd probably be OK too :-) Sun, 30 Sep 2007 10:37:55 EST Bragging Rights I thought I'd start a thread for announcing accomplishments, achievements, anything you're feeling good about. However, at this time, I have nothing to add, after eating out at Around the Clock in Crystal Lake last night - ooof! And then not getting up this morning to run.

But you get the idea ;-) Sun, 30 Sep 2007 10:34:06 EST Has this forum died? Since school started it has been so hard to get and do my walk/jog. I miss it so much!!!

On Sunday we are having the family over to celebrate my kids' birthdays. Wow- Awesome football game friday night between Prairie Ridge HS and Cary-Grove - PR finally won after a 29 game losing streak against C-G. The crowd went wild! My son and I were headed out to Glacial Park for some bike riding, when I passed by Fort Mchenry.

My heavens, that is one heck of a park!

We must've played for hours, running up and down the tires and steps.

I don't know who's more tired, me or him? Sun, 2 Sep 2007 22:16:06 EST Labor Day plans? The weather is going to be beautiful this weekend. Anyone have any special plans for the weekend and/or Labor Day? Fri, 31 Aug 2007 14:56:05 EST The grass is getting tall! It's been over a week since I was last able to cut the grass. It's been just too wet to mow. And of course, the taller it is, the longer it takes to mow! I'm hoping to let it dry out a bit today and have a go at it tomorrow morning. We use an electric mower, so I don't want to be wading thru soggy ground with it! Sure seems like spring!

I got out for my bike ride today. Have to lay off the walking/jogging for a bit. Sat, 25 Aug 2007 14:43:48 EST Building an Ark Who wants to help me build an ark? lol
I'm thinking with all this rain we could do some exercising and build an ark to float away in, and of course we would have our own little track on the ark so we can still keep exercising. Mon, 20 Aug 2007 20:50:30 EST Countdown to ... the new school year. When do your kids go back? Will your routine change much? Mine start back on August 27 and 29. I'm hoping I can get in more time on the bike trail since I won't be running the kids around as much during the day. I'll be getting up much earlier - might be a good thing! Fri, 17 Aug 2007 10:58:31 EST Finally! After a 2 month long hooplah, I've finally settled down in Woodstock!!! Yeah! Weight loss, here I come!!! Wed, 15 Aug 2007 23:46:15 EST Anyone going to the air and water show this weekend? We are and I've never been before. I'm wondering what to expect? Wed, 15 Aug 2007 22:40:32 EST Argh! So this is the third Sunday in a row that I blew off my workout for some reason or another. This time it's because I stayed up late playing a computer game, then the storms last night kept me from a good night's sleep.

Oh well. I missed two of my workout days last week and still made my calories burned goal. Mowing the lawn helps with that!

I try to burn 2600 calories a week. What do you aim for? Sun, 12 Aug 2007 18:19:35 EST Just wanted to share this... I saw this on my msn homepage and was intrigued. I read thru it and there are quite a few helpful tips. Copy and paste into your browsers address bar:

/07/24/0724_foods_fight_fat

... some good reminders and a couple of new things I hadn't heard of before. Happy reading!

Thu, 2 Aug 2007 22:20:34 EST Weather Woes: Summer It's nice to have this list to commiserate over the weather.

So I'm asking you all, How are you managing to exercise in this God awful heat and humidity? I find that even going to the air conditioned gym at 9a is trying, stamina-wise.

(And I will probably re-address this issue in the dead of winter as well.) Thu, 2 Aug 2007 11:48:13 EST Awfully quiet here! Where is everyone? I'm feeling a bit down. I didn't exercise yesterday (Sunday) because it was my birthday and I wanted to sleep in. I did mow the lawn, so I got some calories burned away. I didn't get out today (Monday) either! My 3 year old daughter had a rough night last night due to a cold. I had her sleeping on the floor next to my bed, and we didn't actually get to sleep until after 1 am. So I shut off my alarm. Sleep is important too.

I will lift weights later and do... Mon, 30 Jul 2007 18:08:40 EST How was your weekend? Hello everyone!

Well, the Cubs lost both days, so bummer! Otherwise, I got my exercise in by mowing the lawn on Saturday and trimming the bushes today (Sunday). Such nice weather. I hope next weekend is as nice. My husband will be free to do stuff then. Maybe go to Bristol. Fun! Sun, 22 Jul 2007 18:40:40 EST 15 pounds of blueberries! My FAVORITE CROP OF THE SUMMER!
My family got up very early today with me so that we would be out at the blueberry farm by 8am. We left the house at 7:20 , sleep deprived but ready to pick! I couldn't believe the number of cars that were there ahead of us - and we arrived at 7:55! Oh well, there were plent of berries for all of us! I was so glad to have my girls show enthusiasm this year. Last year they barely picked one bucket between the two of them. This year they each picked almo... Wed, 18 Jul 2007 15:35:18 EST Another beautiful day in McHenry Co. It's another GORGEOUS day. I think I'll hit the bike trail today. My husband and I rode from the parking lot at Hillside up to McCullom Lake and back on Friday night. It was just over 16 miles. There was a festival going on up there - wish we would've known, the bratwursts smelled so good but we didn't have any money with us. Oh well, probably for the best. I think we'll head south today - it's a much more shaded route. Plus, there's ice cream at the 10 mile mark! Sun, 15 Jul 2007 14:08:53 EST Gala Anyone? It's festival season! Anyone attending CL Gala this weekend? Not too many good food choices at the Taste, but I've been good lately so I'll probably let myself off the hook a bit.
Looking forward to the parade on Sunday! Fri, 29 Jun 2007 20:08:37 EST Alli Has anyone tried this - or does anyone plan on trying it? Wed, 27 Jun 2007 12:21:40 EST So hot!! I find I have to get up earlier and earlier to try to walk in cooler air. It's a little easier now that I walk without the dog. He can't stand the heat at all and just hearing him pant made me hotter! lol

I had planned on taking the kids to the beach during one of these 90deg. days, but my oldest fell off his bike a couple days ago and skinned up his knee and elbow. I want them to heal up a bit before subjecting them to lake water. They both start swim lessons at the end of the... Fri, 15 Jun 2007 17:21:23 EST Any good deeds today? I try to be a good citizen/person. Other than trying to decrease my carbon footprint, I try to do other little things too.

Today I picked up some garbage on the walking trail during my morning walk. Of course, if I picked up everything I saw, I wouldn't get much of a workout. So everyday I plan on picking up a little more.

How about you? Fri, 15 Jun 2007 17:17:52 EST What do you do for exercise? Are you in a routine of exercising "X" number of days a week? Or do you get it in whenever you find the time available?
I have found a new appreciation for the health club. I had the membership fo rover a year but hardly ever used it. Now I go almost everyday. I figure I have to make up the past years worth of dues that I paid! Tue, 12 Jun 2007 23:20:40 EST Welcome! Introduce yourself... I'm so excited about this site! I tell someone new everyday about Spark People. I think it's really catching on - I'm starting to hear other people talking about it! Yay!
I've been a member since April 5 of this year, and already it has helped me to surpass my weight loss expectations. I had hoped to maybe lose 5 to 10 pounds. But with the tools on this site and the motivation from fellow sparkers, I have already lost 16 pounds and I now have no doubt that I will reach my goal of l... Tue, 12 Jun 2007 00:29:17 EST
