SparkPeople Spark Santa Rosa (Sonoma County) The Official Team Team Messageboard This team is for all SparkPeople members in the Sonoma County area. North Bay counties welcome as well. Welcome! SparkPeople Spark Santa Rosa (Sonoma County) The Official Team Team Messageboard Accessible Walks in Sonoma County Hi everyone! I'm looking for recommendations for safe, accessible walks in Sonoma County. I use a rolling walker, so I have a few more options than Sparklers using wheelchairs since I can navigate gravel and even dirt trails if they're fairly wide. I've found a bunch of accessible walks through the Regional Parks website, but I'm wondering about what hidden gems I might be missing. Any suggestions? Thanks, and good luck to you all in reaching your goals! Sat, 1 Jul 2017 15:26:36 EST SONOMA COUNTY TRAILS CHALLENGE! I'm starting the challenge. If I can't I just go walking around my neighborhood. Sun, 27 Oct 2013 09:55:41 EST Hi I am a 63 yr old widow that has allowed depression to consume me. I weighed myself last week and was shocked I reached the 200 lb level. The most I have ever weighed in my life. I know how that happened. I stay in bed most of the day and allowed myself to wallow in self pity. Not caring how I look and keeping to myself. So many negative events in my life led me a very sequestered life and not trusting. I realize that if I don't change my attitude things will never get better. I know h... It was suggested I give more of a background on myself, so here goes. :)

A little about my struggle:

I've been chubby for as long as I can remember, so I'm guessing it's sort of in my genes. Anyone a member of the Y? Anyone interested in walks at Spring Lake? Fri, 10 Aug 2012 13:57:25 EST Where do you Walk/Run? Hey all, I'm curious to know where everyone goes for their walks and runs. I'm training for the Water to Wine half and I'm having trouble finding good places to do the long runs.

I know you can run the track at SRJC, though I haven't yet, and Spring Lake, though the one time I went there I somehow got off the trail, went through a picnic area, and ended up doubling back on my route! I followed that up with Day 1 new You kickboxing cardio. Coach Nicole is a beast! I've had a giant blister on the bottom of my left foot for 5 days now. It is in the shape of a heart. Good omen? Wed, 30 May 2012 16:31:09 EST GOOD WORKOUT Holy workout. I just finished doing the SparksPeople day one 12 minute bootcamp. Twice. Then I did the 12 minute low impact cardio video and I followed that with the 20 minutes Yogilates routine. I tried doing the Hemalyaa Bollywood dance intense cardio video after that but it was a little too advanced for me and the evil lady on the video kept laughing with each painful move so I quit that after 3.53 minutes. Almost an hour long workout today total WOOHOO! Tue, 29 May 2012 20:09:46 EST When is a safe time to try running/ jogging? I haven't run since my senior year of high school and I gained a lot of weight in the least few years so now even though I recently started walking 2 to 3 miles-- I am worried about if and when it will be safe for me to start running or jogging. I had an accident when I was 17 that totally tore my acl--- I can't really jump. My knee is so bad and if I land on my feet wrong I could pop it out of place (so painful). Are there any strength training exercises I could do to help me be able to run/... Mon, 28 May 2012 00:13:49 EST Had a great walk/ hike Second day of my Sparks people diet plan so far so good :) Went to Howarth Park today with a friend and her nephews and niece and we did so much walking--- I think we got there around 1:30 pm and I got home at 5:15. We hiked the tiny trail around Ralphine and then let the kids play at the park. I had a fudge sickle and half a pretzel with mustard for lunch but we got right back to walking towards Spring Lake and then hiked up that dam so I think we burned a lot of calories today. Being able... Sun, 27 May 2012 20:54:42 EST Spring Lake this weekend? I would love to get a group together to go walking at Spring Lake. I know the parking is kinda difficult sometimes last time we parked over by Lake Ralphine by the tennis courts which was fine for me-- more walking :) We just walked the Ralphine then walked onto Spring Lake--- which is cool cause then you don't have to pay for parking. My favorite thing to do is walk is walk up that big grassy hill (I think it's a dam) then walk that dirt road path down to the bench where the paved road tow... Sat, 26 May 2012 00:17:06 EST Hey everyone :) My name is Jacqueline. I am pretty excited about getting started with SP. I know that a healthy diet and exercise is all that is needed for a healthy lifestyle but when I was in junior high I developed an eating disorder bulimia/anorexia. Other girls found out about it and I was humiliated and was glad to move away shortly after. I swung in the complete opposite and stopped worrying about what I ate and just began eating what I wanted. That was fine while I was leading an active lifestyl... Fri, 2 Dec 2011 18:23:38 EST Car Crushed I planned on walking at Spring Lake but at the end of last month my car was crushed in my driving way. 300 year old oak tree fell on it, crushing the top down past the head rest. So I received $5000. for my car but that is not enough money with the way cars are priced right now. So I have been doing my walking around home, JC area. I've successfully lost a significant amount of weight with an ultra low carb diet but haven't been able to maintain either the loss or the food plan. I still keep carbs t... Fri, 27 Feb 2009 21:40:51 EST Fitness or Exercise Tips Let's share what we're learning about fitness. For example, I was doing lunges with my wife and explaining that (a) I sometimes lose balance and (2) I don't feel like my weight is coming down over my heel, which I heard is the way to do it safely. She told me that she will touch her opposite hand to the toe of the leg I'm extending. This seems to have solved both problems I was having. Any other tips out there? Mon, 2 Feb 2009 12:40:39 EST Need Advice - 8 Cups of Water per Day OK, SparkTeam Santa Rosa,

I have been doing SparkPeople for about a month now and the main and consistent challenge for me is drinking 8 cups of water per day. I truly think about it often during the day at work and at home and I still can only choke 6 classes of water down per day. I probably have one cup of coffee and 2-3 cups of organic herbal non-caffeinated tea per day, but I don't want to count that. Any thoughts on how I could get up to 8 cups? Thu, 29 Jan 2009 10:06:39 EST Wow! Sparkpeople Ad on KSRO Has anyone else heard the Sparkpeople ad on KSRO? From what I'm hearing, the site is growing nationally. I guess it doesn't matter really, since I use the site because it's helping me, but it does make it easier to tell others about it. Mon, 26 Jan 2009 21:34:37 EST What are you reading? Has anyone here been swimming at their clubs? or done aqua aerobics? I'm leaning toward Parkpoint or Montecito but have heard the pool at Montecito is crowded with people staying in the hotel.. I don't have a huge budget to join a gym either--so looking for a good deal. I live in NW Santa Rosa. I am very motivated and have started a 1200 a day caloric intake. I need to start exercising, watched the video on stability ball and did a few. I need to have a daily routine.

I noticed that Santa Rosa Sparkers didn't have a message to welcome me as a new member, as other Teams did, nor does SR Sparkers have a Team Goal. Is there something I can do to help in this regard? Just let me know.

Thu, 10 Jul 2008 20:52:30 EST Walking buddy in Sebastopol? Just rejoined Spark People and giving it another try. Wondering if there is anyone in the Sebastopol area who goes walking in the evening and would like a buddy. Wed, 9 Jul 2008 13:38:47 EST Being present My friends, I just came from an evening service at my community church where a guru from a local asram spoke for about an hour. His entire topic was that when we are completely present in this moment with ourselves, we are making a gift to every other person on the planet. In other words, our actions are not only affecting us and those immediately around us but everyone everywhere.

Whew. He urged each of us to adopt some small ritual or practice that reminded us to stay present ... Fri, 27 Jun 2008 00:58:40 EST Moving to Santa Rosa I am moving to Santa Rosa next week from Houston, TX and I'm looking to meet new people. I am a regular walker and would love to walk with a partner or in a group. I am currently trying (without success) to get the motivation to lose about 15 lbs. I'd love recommendations for places to walk too. I joined spark people today thinking this might help me get on the right track.
Would love to hear from you.

213 Thu, 26 Jun 2008 17:05:13 EST Sabotage I seem to keep sabotaging myself. I do not take a lunch to work, then starve myself and eat anything I can get my hands on. I have to make an effort to take snacks and a lunch with me. There..... now that I said it out loud, I am accountable. Wish me luck and send me any other ideas you might have. I go by Sweety, and I'm a 40-something single mom to a 10-year old boy. The weight has been creeping on bit by bit ever since I had my son and I seriously need to turn those scales around and have them start going downward!

I work full time outside the home, plus I have a second job that I do from the home, so my schedule is busy. My focus in the next two weeks will be to stick to my caloric intake daily, and to walk or get some form of... Fri, 22 Feb 2008 01:27:12 EST Anyone Jazzersize? Feeling a bit shy since I'm not a regular blogger by any means. However, I'm looking forward to dropping these 20 extra pounds that are just weighing me down for too long now. Hoping this heavy rainstorm goes by quickly so I can exercise outdoors around Spring Lake here in Santa Rosa. Sat, 5 Jan 2008 00:15:12 EST New Team: CALIFORNIANS SPARK TOGETHER Good day,

While there are many California Teams based on the areas in which members live, there is no one team where we can all get together and compare areas, challenges, offer support to each other; or just chat, moan, groan and gossip. In addition, many of the regional California teams are inactive. So I have started a California team for everyone. Hopefully this will be the Team where we can do all the things I previosly listed. If you live in California, please come check ou...
