I wanted to share it with other people on this team. So here goes:

A month or so ago I found myself standing at the base of a very large mountain looking up. I was trying to decide if I wanted to start climbing or just give up and go home. It looked like a really hard climb, and the mountain was SO BIG! I decided to start climbing. How could I ever move forward if I continued to return home? For the first 3 weeks I did pretty good, I made some progress and b... Fri, 8 Mar 2013 08:52:26 EST Glad to find you! http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x11533x52429908 Hi! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only 50+er needing to lose 50+. I have been trying for quite a while to lose this weight. I have lost some, 15 lbs., so that now I am really on my last 60 lbs.! I seem to constantly struggle with motivation to exercise and portion control. I know what I should eat. I'm old enough to know that! I need to remember how much I should (or shouldn't) eat. Any ideas on how to maintain correct portions when the family is reaching for seconds?? Thu, 7 Mar 2013 14:14:10 EST Need Motivation! http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x11533x52428922 I joined Spark People on Monday. So far so good. It has really opened my eyes to where my problems are. I am 62 years old. In 2005 I got a lapband and quickly lost 96 lbs in the first 2 years, then came to a dead halt. I promised myself a tatoo when I lost 100 lbs but never made it. In the last year I have gained about 20 lbs which is something I thought I would never do with my band. I still don't eat much but obviously I have learned what goes through the band easily and that is not ... I've been gone for some time. Much to long. My weight went from about 230 lbs up to 248 lbs do to being lazy and not getting any exercise. I have a wonderful wife and hope to be with her for some time, if I can just get my act together. Soon I'll be 69 years old. The trick and hard part is going slow, not pushing yourself to hard and slowly lose the pounds. I exercise mostly with stretch bands. I have no other equipment. This is my first day back. I wish all of you the ... So I am going to let the fear keep me on track this time. It's about 6 months before I have to go back for another blood test. Doctor had given me a year - but I would lose some weight and then gain it back. This time I am eating strictly the food on the SparkPeople food plan. (the Diabetes meal plan) I am also working out with my Richard Simmons DVDs.

I really e... I've had a couple of challenging days and I thought if I posted a message here it would help me get back on track tomorrow.

Last night I went to a party at my church and ate three small meringues with fresh cream. Fortunately, as I'm coeliac, these were the only things in the vast variety of delicious foods that I could actually eat. However, I had gone out without eating any dinner, so I was very hungry when I got home. ... I am still learning how to use the site and am anticipating some good results. I used another free calorie-counter site with good results, but I knew a few people who used this one and thought I'd try it. I want to lose weight, lower my blood sugar and hemoglobin A1c. I NEED to see the pounds come off!!! I am kind of a fanatic because I weigh almost every day and I'm told not to! It's just that if the pounds are coming... First off, why are dietitians always so skinny. This woman looked like she weighed about 105 lbs and wore a size 0. Right off the bat I thought "How is this person who probably has never had to lose a single pound going to help me?" 2nd thought "then again, I don't think I would trust a fat dietitian" She took my medical history and then did metabolic rate testing which basically consisted of breathing into a tube attached to a machine for 10 minutes. ...
