Hi everyone! Introducing myself to the site. Instead of listening to myself complain "one more time" about how bad I feel, how bad I need to lose weight, how bad it is to be so tired all the time...I'm at that "wall." I'm ready to start climbing out of the feeling that I'll never achieve my health and weight goals. Of course I won't...not if I don't even try! So, I saw this wonderful site and figured, this is one of my first steps to a healthier lifestyle. I'm ready. My goals are high so I will just take a day at a time. Hope we can inspire each other. My biggest challenge is exercise. Fri, 16 Sep 2016 01:09:33 EST Problem Gramma Hi - I've been a member of SparkPeople for a number of years but it has intimidated me and I simply ignored it for years. I was 276 and went down to 249 - that was last summer - slowly I've gone back up to 286 and I seem to have stuck. I just turned 70 and want to get down 99 pounds by next spring. I have a serious problem exercising because I have a bad knee and my legs swell up to twice their size.
I have one child, a daughter who is 46 and she is married with one child, a daughte... Wed, 14 Sep 2016 19:31:06 EST Just a little frustrated... So I've been a part of SparkPeople for almost 10 years. I have lost only about 15 lbs in all of that time. I brought my A1c down from 12 to 6 at one time. This past 6 months it's gone from 6.5 which is the norm I've maintained all this time to 6.8 to 7 and now to 7.5. I will admit that I didn't count every calorie, every carb, or even paid much attention to what I was eating most of the time. I started a full time job, I work from 7am to 3:30 pm, I have an hour drive each day. I can hardly st... Tue, 13 Sep 2016 21:39:24 EST I ate a whole box of cereal in one evening This is why I can't blame my weight on anything but me eating too much. I go along and eat clean for seven days, determined and clear headed as to why I am overweight. (I wrote another thread titled I Am Fat Because I Eat Too Much or something like that. I join this site, I create a food log, I think of tools to get me through "hungry" spells, like water, veggies, fruit. All the stuff we know to do. And then I choose to buy a box of cereal and eat that for dinner. I chose a cereal that seeme... Mon, 12 Sep 2016 10:50:58 EST A start for new healthy life Hi folks! I'm concentrating on slowly moving my eating in the right direction. This is my second week at SP and I've got two healthy meals I've set up for breakfast and lunch every day. They're easy to prepare and I like eating them. We didn't get meals as children and I've never learned to eat regular meals, so this is a big step in the right direction.

But I find that I am not jumping on other stuff. One of my clients who is a meth addict told me that I did not understand addiction. I thought how wrong he was as I have struggled with food addictions for most of my life. I used food to feel better, to get high, to calm and comfort myself. I would sneek food, hide with food, hide evidence of food I had eaten. I had an addiction and I knew it but was like everyone of many ... Tue, 10 May 2016 22:53:18 EST Hello! Hi, I'm Elaine, I live in Denver. Yesterday I re-started using SparkPeople to log my food. Sun, 8 May 2016 07:21:18 EST Help Hello everyone, I'm 56 and need to lose 3 stone. With the last two weeks I've been walking on my treadmill. I was a motivation to many people and to be honest I was truly humbled. I don’t think of myself as a "motivation" and what I did felt like it wasn’t that difficult. I didn’t overthink it (which I tend to do) I just did it, one step at a time, one meal at a time, one day at a time.

I had been on Spark 2 other times in the past before this journey (I guess threes th... Been there done that with the weight loss. I have been successful and I have also failed. I know what it takes to do great and I know how to fail as well. Fourteen years ago I lost 107 pounds and I maintained that loss for 6.5 years. Slowly after that the weight began to just creep up ever so slowly and I am almost back to the weight I was 15 years ago. Now this time, I am older, really feel the weight hindering me and mentally, well....menta... I have rejoined Sparkpeople under a new name to begin anew.

I am a wife and mother to two children in their early 20's. My family has been supportive of my health challenges, but has less patience for diet restrictions that may impact them. Nevertheless, I am ready to make this work.

With several health challenges, I know this program is my best chance of success. I look forward to sharing my journey with you. Mon, 14 Mar 2016 14:40:19 EST Rosemary Conley's book "The FAB Diet" I've just started reading this - it's basically a calorie controlled diet with exercise and the book has recipes with colour photos. I started a spark team for anyone who would like to join me in doing this plan. I'm starting on Friday to give me time to read more of the book and get some groceries in.

idual.asp?gid=66627
Mon, 14 Mar 2016 12:15:11 EST Getting Back to Living Life After a major surgery a few years ago, my doctor gave me that advice, Get Back to Living Your Life. I had been sick for a while, and had really forgotten how to do that. It's taken me a few years, but I'm ready to do just that. Well, I've gained quite a few pounds since that surgery, so part of moving forward is to shed those pounds. The easier part for me is getting back to exercising. I love being outdoors and started a daily ritual of getting up early and walking/hiking a couple of hours i... Sun, 13 Mar 2016 22:09:20 EST turning 58, ready to make a change Glad to join this team, I need to get moving and make some changes, preferably while I am still in my 50's ! Sun, 13 Mar 2016 03:06:30 EST Hey from way down South Hi! You know when you reach that point where you gotta do something. This is it. I moved to Florida last October and have just really settled in. The thing about Florida, is that it's nice, as in nice ALL....THE....TIME!

It's the kind of place where there is always something going on outdoors. Back in Oregon, it was cold, damp and rainy for at least nine months of the year, so you really didn't sweat it that much. You got out and about the few months it was nice and then back to yo... Sat, 12 Mar 2016 15:08:43 EST Hi Hi, from Rhode Island. I am on the 9th day of my 21 day challenge and am learning so much about this site and have even made a few "friends". I have at least 50 pounds to lose and I know it will be a long journey for me. I joined a gym in January and although not "loving it" I do find I look forward to going. Once I am there I'm OK and I must say I do feel stronger and better. I hope you all are going to have a wonderful weekend. Sat, 12 Mar 2016 08:28:40 EST Hi! I'm from Cleveland, TN Dancing 15 minutes a day? Wow, that sounds like fun and will motivate me. Any pointers? Music recommendations? Thu, 10 Mar 2016 15:54:11 EST Starting over It makes me feel better that I'm not alone. I've seen other posts in here of starting over. The past year and a half has just really been hard. Every time I try and get a breakthrough, I get sideswiped. My problem is I always wait till things get better before I do something. I don't have that luxury anymore. My body is in the balance and I just really have to start saying that no matter what happens, I've got to take care of my health every day. No matter what. That's new for me. But I'm gon... Thu, 10 Mar 2016 13:26:39 EST Back Again Hi, I am hoping this is the last new username....A few years ago I lost 45 pounds with Sparkpeople. Started, stopped multiple times after I gained weight back. I now need to lose 53 pounds and today is day one! The last few times I tried I did not join any SparkTeams-I am hoping that by being more social on Spark, it will help me to stay focused and accountable. Mon, 7 Mar 2016 13:23:13 EST New member Good Evening Everyone! I am a new member, I just signed up this evening. I am looking forward to the program and meeting all of you! Sun, 6 Mar 2016 23:22:29 EST New day fresh start Hello:

I'm Cathy, this is my first day back at Spark I was here years ago. I need to track my food and get this weight off. I have been on a zillion diets but hoping just by eating less and moving more I can shed this weight.
Sun, 6 Mar 2016 15:44:22 EST $1 a pound to the charity of your choice Since I find the spark community supportive and the food tracker easy to use, I have decided not to return to the weekly meetings of another weight reduction group. These meeting had a weekly fee (which were a bit rich for my blood) That said, I have decided to donate a $1 to a charity of my choice for every pound I loose. It does not sound like much, but like my weight loss slow and sure wins the race. Thanks to a 3 lbs loss, I just made my first donation. Here is to success and helping ... Sun, 6 Mar 2016 14:32:11 EST Back to beginning more or less Hello - I've been absent a few years due to an interesting medical mess, and all that goes with it. Since I no longer go to Physical Therapy - I'm using PT exercises & some of the videos here & trying to get back into the swing of things here. Sun, 6 Mar 2016 12:42:18 EST Howdy! Hello all,

I'm new to this site and am excited for the large (no pun intended) community here. My dietician turned me on to this site, so I'm hoping it will help me to meet my health goals.

A little about me: I've been overweight my entire life. I've tried diet after diet with little success. Over the past decade or so, I've been content with being who I am. However, I've recently gotten some bad results from a blood test, so I'm needing to make some changes in my life.... Fri, 4 Mar 2016 15:29:10 EST New to SP Hi there all. Sun, 21 Feb 2016 21:37:12 EST Calories and Exercise I'm having difficulties adjusting calories when I exercise. Feel as if I overeat when I'm told that I still have so many calories still after I exercise. I want to try to keep my intake to 1200 to 1500. Anyone else having addressed this? Fri, 19 Feb 2016 11:06:25 EST Posture and Weight Loss I am on the cusp of having given up 45# of my old self. While I don't see that much of a change in my body when I look in the mirror, I have been told, and complimented, on the changes. Okay, that's cool.

But I feel like some of my muscles are being strained in different way because my posture hasn't quite adapted to the weight loss, such as my hip flexors at the top of my thighs. I've just started at this site and I really like it. So much easier to use than My Fitness Pal. Plus, I really like that we can create our own recipes and find out the nutritional values for them. This site's got it together! I'm 29 pounds down in a 100 pound goal so far and I'm loving it even if it's really challenging at times. Can't really believe I've changed the way and what I eat. I'm never hungry! And my pants are getting baggy! This is a definite good thing as I'm... Fri, 19 Feb 2016 08:28:45 EST I'm back...and starting all over again Hi there, I originally signed up to Sparkpeople a few years ago with the plan to lose weight and get healthy. I did lose about 40 lbs by eating healthy, working out regularly and feeling really good and on the right path. However in the last few years, I was a PhD student writing a dissertation which I had pressure to finish (and I did finish - yay) and then having to work - because much of my work has me sitting behind a computer, I have gained the 40 lbs plus back. I am trying to motiva... Fri, 19 Feb 2016 01:08:18 EST Can't get started I've been on a constant diet struggle since I was 10. My goal to lose weight is to be healthier and of course have more energy to enjoy things in my life. I was able muster up the motivation and resolve to go on the DR OZ Total10 diet plan and stayed on it for the 10 days. I lost weight, looked great and had more energy but alas the lemon water in the morning wrecked my stomach so excuses, excuses have not gone back.I picked this plan because the food was healthy and I believe in eating or... Thu, 18 Feb 2016 08:54:13 EST Still a bit shell-shocked Hello all!

Thanks for including me on this team. It's hard to find the time to eat right but I'm working on it again. I do best if I make 1 or 2 small changes at a time. I am giving up most refined sugars and spending time in the kitchen creating new healthy recipes. Over the years I find I am eating meat less often and in smaller portions.

Losing weight isn't my problem, keeping it off is. This time I want to have a food plan that I can l... Hey y'all...I'm 52 year-old guy and I'm looking for a buddy with whom we can virtually walk side-by-side to meet our wellness goals. I'm an Evangelical Christian which to me is an important part of how I view all of life, not just food, so finding someone who shares those values is probably a good idea but it's for sure not a deal-breaker or anything. Yes, starting a fresh new outlook on health and determined to make it more fun, more challenging. Health is my biggest goal more than losing the weight even. NO MORE SITTING IN FRONT OF THE IDIOT BOX. I want to do more, read more, learn more and live a long and healthy life. Friday I walked a 5K on ... I expect the hack to continue for weeks.

Ironically, being sick caused us to postpone a couple of medical procedures I need to have done because I have NASH. I am to call hospital in a day or two to reschedule.

I think I will limit today's exercise to walking the dog, but that will be more than I have managed in about a week. Hopefully, t... Now here I am, a couple of years and many, many pounds heavier and it's time for me to reach out for help.

I know from being active on a quit smoking forum during the first year of my quit (4 years ago now...yay!) how important it was for me to network with others on the same journey. Sun, 8 Nov 2015 05:00:33 EST New Habit Hello, I am starting some new habits, small steps that will propel me towards my goals. Tracking my nutrition keeps my head in the game. Thu, 29 Oct 2015 23:39:04 EST Hi everybody. I am newbie
Hi everybody. I am new to Spark People and the group and I just wanted to say hi. I have a lot of weight to lose and a lot a health to gain. I look forward to getting to know everybody. And I am glad to be here. Thu, 29 Oct 2015 02:23:18 EST Being consistent versus being current I started SP on 8/31/15, and my main focus has been just tracking what I consume. For 7 weeks, I was making my goal of averaging 2# of weight loss per week. Actually, I lost 14.5# in 6 weeks. Now, I've held steady on the scales for weeks 7 & 8. I have my consumption all jotted down in the memo feature of my phone, but I have a backlog of ELEVEN days' worth of food to track. I know that consistency is a factor in successful weight management and nutrition, but how big of a factor is it? An... Wed, 28 Oct 2015 02:19:45 EST 50+ with 50+ and tech challenged I'm 50 years old with 113 pounds to lose, and I am not tech savvy. I just got my first smart phone a couple of months ago. Are there any others in this 50+ w/50+ group who are not tech whizzes but who use the SparkPeople mobile app? I'm thinking about trying it, but I'm concerned that the technological challenges might be counter-productive. I haven't been consistent in tracking my food daily like I was when I started here 2 months ago. Does anyone have an opinion on or experience with whethe... Wed, 28 Oct 2015 02:05:11 EST Newcomer wants to know... I am going to be 50 in a month. I joined Spark to try to lose weight and get fit because it seems like I have a number of factors working against me. I got sober in 2009 and began gaining weight due to a couple of medications I was taking at the time, methadone and seroquel. Now 6 1/2 years later, I am in menopause and my weight went up even more! I look forward to learning how other members are losing weight and finding the energy and time to exercise? Mon, 26 Oct 2015 02:50:35 EST
