I am just about to turn 58 (60's just around the corner) and I want to become fit. I have about 40 pounds to lose.

One thing I am very happy I recently gave myself is the Spark activity tracker. I am concentrating on slowly increasing my average daily steps. Since I was so inactive, my first goal is to get to an average of 6,000 steps a day.

Once I am comfortable walking that amount for a couple of weeks (so I can acclimate to it), I wil... Sat, 29 Nov 2014 19:40:03 EST Time to Get with It! I've been a Spark member over the past few years (formerly Grits46). After I retired in 2006, I went through 5 orthopedic surgeries plus a few other health issues that kept me more sedentary than I like to be. However, once healthy from the surgeries and having "learned" to be sedentary, I began a lifelong dream of writing. What could be more sedentary!

Then add one more spine surgery to the mix and recent gallbladder issues and surgery -- well, you get the picture. I am several po... I can't seem to get it right or get away! This time, however, a well meaning physician surgeon pointed out that I don't have to (1) be the last one up two flights of stairs, (2) the one always feeling tired, (3) the one feeling bad after every meal because I made bad choices, and (4) the one knowing I could have more years ahead with better choices.

After I let him have my gallbladder and its pesky stones, I d... I started out on this weight loss/lifestyle change venture about 17 months ago. I was very determined and needed to lose 100 pounds. I was able to lose 60 pounds using Calorie Count and exercise. A few months ago I slowly started to "fall off the bandwagon" so I returned to Calorie Count but it seemed no one was commenting on my posts- it didn't feel interactive at all and I was not getting the support I needed. I keep fluctuating between 190 and 195 for the past 6 months - frustrating, but probably my own fault (I like to "cheat" a little too often). One thing I'm concerned about is getting the right nutrients. According to the nutrition tracker, I need to increase my potassium and magnesium... Fri, 11 Jul 2014 21:30:05 EST New to Group Hello Everyone

My name is Karen and I am new to this group.
I'm 50 yo and I need to loose about 32lbs. I'm expecting to be able to do this in 16 weeks.

Here's to a healthy start!
Karen Fri, 11 Jul 2014 11:50:22 EST CourtClerk1987 I've been struggling forever with weight and have tried almost every diet/weight loss program. I'm so afraid of failure, AGAIN! This really looks like something I can do. I actually took a 15 minute walk at lunchtime and it's been about a year since I've walked for exercise. There was a time I could stick with maintaining my weight but not so much anymore. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers for a successful journey. Wed, 9 Jul 2014 13:29:45 EST Melanie My second day and exploring, using meal tracker but do not know everything Spark has to offer.

Is there someone who can help me?

Thanks Tue, 8 Jul 2014 13:43:37 EST New to Spark Hi, I joined Spark today and would like to join your team. I am retired one year now and have relaxed long enough. I am very active with friends but my activity level from work to retirement has really gone down from 24 hours of exercise per week to about 30 minutes. My goal is to loose 25 more pounds and to stop the sugar and junk food including high carbs. I hope to find support and give support when I can with this group. This is a little scary for me, ok, a lot scary for me. Now that I have that out of the way, hello! I'm looking forward to joining the dialogue on this Spark message board. We found out this past Sunday that we will be grandparents for the first time, and I joined SparkPeople {again} on Monday. I want to be here for as long as I can, and enjoy all the wonderful perks that come with being Gma. I know now that I need support in finding my way back to a healthy body, and I hopefully have som... I work out in a gym and walk four to six miles on days I don't go to the gym. I use the nutrition tracker and pretty much stay within my goals. What else can I do? Tue, 24 Jun 2014 20:31:54 EST Hello Hi everyone,
I'm new to the team and Spark. I've just begun my lifestyle change with my physical well -being included in that. I am 52 wanting to lose atleast 48 lbs the good ol' fashioned way through eating healthily & properly and exercise. I am in the 7th week of physical therapy in the healing of a broken ankle. Mon, 23 Jun 2014 17:43:10 EST Humbly, he opens his Big Mouth, and ...... Hi all! My name is Randy, and I've been using the SparkPeople site for nearly a week now and decided it's time to get involved. I've been trying to lose weight for quite a while now, and ran across this site while trying to prepare a program for my TOPS chapter. I think between both SparkPeople and TOPS, I can finally get a handle on my lifestyle and permanently drop my excess weight (already I've lost 2 lbs that I can positively say came from my experience with SparkPeople)! I look forward t... Tue, 17 Jun 2014 21:14:53 EST What is your ideal calorie range for losing? I'm just wondering if people will post what their ideal range is to lose at least one pound per week. I have about 40 pounds to lose, and even when I'm exercising 45 minutes, five days a week, I don't lose if I'm at the top of my recommended range (1550).

What range do you find brings you the best results? Tue, 17 Jun 2014 14:16:07 EST bequiltn8 I finally decided I need to take better care of myself-- I have a lot of weight to lose, and I certainly need help doing it. I have just spent 18 months away from my home caring for my ailing 90 yr old mother--has made me realize we don't have forever to do the things we thought we did. Sun, 15 Jun 2014 18:57:48 EST Hi! Hm, where to start? I am a fifty-something and I do have 35 (maybe a bit more but let's start with that) pounds to lose---one day at a time! I'm married and live in Ohio. I'm an RN who retired 3 years ago then went back to a few days a week (in another field). The changes hit me hard, lol. The weight crept on as I became less active and well, ate more. Go figure. Here to try and figure out the nutritional thing, because honestly I could be a lot wiser in that department. So good to be here an... Sun, 15 Jun 2014 06:32:47 EST New to the Forum Hi--I'm 52, married and am owned by 2 German Shepherd goofballs. I sort of retired about 3 years ago and the weight creep has been awful. Here to get wise about nutrition and physical activity in order to lose the poundage. Would also like to find my self-esteem somewhere along the way! D'oh! Glad to have found SP.
Fri, 13 Jun 2014 21:25:37 EST Goals and reasons for weight loss I was always a very fit and active person when I was younger, big into sports....a competitive swimmer, women's water polo, dance teams, martial arts. Then having kids got the best of me. I gained 40 plus pounds with each pregnancy and would lose only 20 of it after having the baby. I still walk, I am still relatively active although my job hinders a lot of that. I would like to get at least in the 150# range; I haven't been there in over 10 years. I refused to buy clothes over a certain size... Wed, 11 Jun 2014 21:24:17 EST New to SP- Lost 80 pounds so far, 42 to go! Hats off to the many wonderful champions on this site who are taking back their lives!! I, too, am transforming my life, finding the true me that has been hiding behind all that excess weight. I have been on Ideal Protein and absolutely endorse it and LOVE it. It is not high protein, but "right-protein" as I call it. I have learned so much about nutrition and I thought I knew a lot before this program! Learning to eat right, exercise right, and I am not hungry on this program. My biggest... Tue, 3 Jun 2014 14:37:14 EST upcoming colonoscopy I'm going to be prepping for a colonoscopy early next week (welcome to the decade of the 50's) and I was appalled to see that the "low fiber diet" that is recommended is all of the things I've been trying to avoid since I joined SparkPeople. I guess I could load up on donuts and white bread (ha!) but I'm afraid if I reintroduce this stuff to my diet, the cravings will come back. Does anyone have any healthy, low fiber suggestions?
