Trying to work my way around the site so hopefully I'm doing this correctly :) I joined last night but today is the day I really started eating healthier. Didn't do too badly. Did get in my water and then some. Ate on plan. However, did not get time to work out due to a very long day at work. Little crabby but hoping that is normal. Here goes and I'm excited to start feeling better! Nan Mon, 18 Aug 2014 21:10:39 EST just joined Hi everyone. Just joined. Hope I can do this!!! Food has been my best friend for far to long. This is one relationship I need to end. Well, maybe not end but work on appreciating more. I use food for every emotion out there - If I'm happy or celebrating its a sweet treat, if I'm sad or stressed (which lately has been all the time) its fats and salt and If I'm bored its whatever is in reach (first sweets then salty then sweet - trying to balance it out). I want to stop USING food and start enjoying it but I w... Thu, 14 Aug 2014 20:42:21 EST New to Spark People... Being obese most of my adolescent life and all of my adult life, has given me low self esteem and depression, which I am still conquering these obstacles in my life. I am 41 carrying 340 pounds of weight on my body. And I have finally said to myself stop these negative thoughts and choose the healthy way of life. I am finally having the courage to step up and try to lose the weight I have been carrying around so long. I heard about this program through a friend and thought I would give it a t... I'm not sure when I joined this group but it was on my spark page when I reset all of my goals and started trying sparkpeople again at the beginning of the year. I've actually been doing alright at it so far (down about 40 pounds since January, not as much as I wanted but I'll happily take it) but I've never paid much attention to the communities so I thought I might try that since my at home support is...lacking.

Anyw... Tue, 12 Aug 2014 00:53:34 EST Hello from nw Oklahoma! Hi, I joined a while back, but I also go to ww. I'm considering not doing ww and getting more involved here. I have lost over 50lbs, but it's been very slow! I need to be more active. But I'm a home school mom, I have 9 children, 13 grandchildren, and still homeschool 3 of our children. Sun, 10 Aug 2014 19:07:27 EST Newbie switching from Slimming World Hi everyone, I decided to join Spark people as I need a change from SW. Fed up with getting the highs and lows of eating too many carbs and not seeing results on scales, just eating too much. Also feeling deprived of things I love/ social events. Got about 3 stone to lose. Never done calorie monitoring before. Ideally want low carb diet as think that will help the cravings. Can anyone recommend the right % of carbs? I am not new to sparkpeople but am new to this group. I have been on and off spark people a few times over the last 4 years. When I have gone off, it has never been a concious decicision - more like me letting life get in the way and not checking in on my priorities. I have been back on now and using the SparkCoach system for 3-4 weeks. My initial goal this time round is to conquer consistency. Being consistent in tracking, consistent in healthy food choices and consistent in the... Fri, 8 Aug 2014 13:01:10 EST Happy to meet you all! I'm hotmor! A teacher, freelance writer and novelist. I'm debating whether to pay the fee to join and if it's worth it. In my search of the message boards, it seems like there are mixed thoughts. I feel like I get so much out of the free sparkpeople so I'm not sure the Spark Coach would add much more.
Thanks Sun, 3 Aug 2014 17:49:45 EST Hi everyone. I have been a yo-yo dieter for several years. I am 41 and decided it is time to kick this weight in the butt once and for all. I lost 7 pounds the past month. I would like to lose 50 more by my birthday in December. That will bring me to a weight that I haven't seen in 20 years. I just got going again on spark today, let the changes begin. 224 Sat, 2 Aug 2014 17:52:12 EST back again.... I joined this thread many, MANY moons ago, but never really participated. It's hard to find that sweet spot but I'm still at it even though it has been years of me trying. Thu, 31 Jul 2014 09:51:02 EST Krys from Florida Hello there, I am 41 years old and attempting to lose weight after being sedentary for 23 years. I've tried to loose weight before but it is difficult to do that when you can't walk. You see, when I was a teenager I developed Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis. Over the years it gradually progressed into Chondrolysis (a deteriorating bone disease) which by the time I was 35 had turned into to Avascular Necrosis (Bone Death). My physicians refused to perform surgery because of my age and treated ... Wed, 30 Jul 2014 22:39:19 EST Herbs and spices added to dinner...worth tracking? What do you think? Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:23:59 EST 3 weeks in and doing ok Hi, just wanted to make a post. I'm 3 weeks on a more healthy eating plan. For me, that means no carbs - no bread or potatoes, etc. That stuff is like crack. I started with Atkins, now introducing some fruit. So far, I've lost 25 pounds. It's hard because that's amazing start and I just want it to continue. I'm afraid of plateaus. I've tried so many times in the past and failed. Hard to think about how far I have to go. I am a previous WW member and after losing 30 pounds, I lost ALL of my motivation. Partly to bad ankles and knees and partly to boredom with my workouts. So im back in hopes of losing 50 pounds again. Thu, 24 Jul 2014 05:34:38 EST Aloha! I'm Renee' I've been with Sparkpeople for a long time. I've lost and gained over the years. My highest weight ever being 252 around the end of November of 2012. This morning I weighed in at 198. I would like to lose about 60 lbs ... although I'm just 40 lbs from my ticker goal. My ticker goal (158) is the high end of my healthy BMI range. If I lost 60 I'd be in the middle of that range. We'll see how it goes. :) Wed, 23 Jul 2014 12:41:42 EST Another newbie ... sort of. I'm working and enjoy my job, however, I am challenged by being on the road everyday and making healthy food choices away from home. Mon, 21 Jul 2014 20:18:26 EST Why a New Team Isn't Necessarily Good I joined this team, because my old team of having 25-50 pounds to lose no longer applies to me. In all my years as a member of SparkPeople, I've really only participated about 1% of the time. (That's a guess, but I bet it's accurate!) I hit an all-time high weight earlier this month, because I pretty much gave up on myself. But I'm back, and I am actually going to participate in communities this time. I AM glad to be here, even though it was not a source of pride that I have this much weight ... Mon, 21 Jul 2014 13:59:36 EST Hi and help!!? Hi everyone. I'm new to Sparkle People today. I never had any issues with weight until I got pregnant (which I know is common for a lot of women), but the older I get the more weight seems to really like me, ... Tue, 11 Mar 2014 12:12:09 EST Yay for the time change! I am so happy we are finally on Daylight Savings Time again. I can do my walk after work and not be as concerned about the cars not seeing me or feeling vulnerable because of low visibility.

In my spring forward, loss of sleep stupor yesterday evening I hit my right foot on the leg of a chair and did all but break my 4th toe. Mon, 10 Mar 2014 14:37:48 EST Just joining after seeing a FB post After seeing a FB post about a woman who lost half her body size by using Sparkpeople, I decided to give it a try and see.. Mon, 10 Mar 2014 13:10:55 EST Just joined! Hi there. My name is Sue and I've got about 50 lbs. that I would like to lose although 30 is probably a more realistic number but won't put me below my calculated BMI. I'm almost 46 and single. Have no children. I just recently developed a blood clot in my lower leg. The docs are blaming it on one of my medications but I can't help but think it is because I have been so sedentary lately. I work 8 hours per day and am on my feet all day but once I come home I can hardly get myself out of... Sun, 9 Mar 2014 19:55:02 EST Hello Hi all! I am Paula, and I am loving my new life! I am over forty, married for almost 4 years, and have lost 17 lbs since January. I have really been enjoying my new healthier eating habits, as it has allowed the weight to just drop off. I am enjoying my life now, exercising more with my spouse and our dogs. Looking forward to a shift in the weather, so we can do more walking outside!!

Thanks for the welcome messages and support so far! Look forward to working with all of you ... Sat, 8 Mar 2014 22:28:31 EST I lost 10% of my body weight I've got a LONG way to go, but I hit one of my goals today. I lost 10% of my original body weight. It took 5 months. I cut out Coca Cola in Oct and slowly lost 23 lbs, then joined a gym a few weeks ago and lost the rest. I'm gonna try for another 10% now, from the weight I am now. I'm going to the gym now, so, hopefully, the pounds will come off a little faster this go 'round. Sat, 8 Mar 2014 20:12:34 EST Newbie I am brand new to this group and to SparkPeople. I am excited, motivated, and determined to make life style changes. I am hoping that being part of a group will help keep me focused and engaged. Severe arthritis in my right knee, ankle, and foot make exercise a challenge but I am positive that improving my overall health and taking some weight off my damaged joints will make a huge difference in my life. I turned on FaceTime on my phone yesterday - and didn't even recognize the face looking back at me from my iPhone. Where did I go? How did I get lost in all this blubber?

I decided its time to pull my head out of the sand and start finding the person I remember. (really 6lbs and 4lbs) the first mini celebration will be for when the numbers on the scale go down in the tens place (from 50 to 49 for example) and the next milestone will be at a 10 pounds lost mark.
I need to think up some cool things to do for myself to celebrate-preferably non-food related. I have rewarded myself with food all my life, that's why I'm in the shape I'm in now.
some of the things I've come up wit... Tue, 4 Mar 2014 17:35:20 EST Newbie Hi there!

Have been on the site for a couple of weeks now. This is my first post.

I'm a 43 year old mom of 4 and wife of almost 24 years. Looking forward moving more freely again. Mon, 3 Mar 2014 19:34:29 EST Blood type diet? Not that I want to try it, but has anyone else tried it? I was reading online about it, and see where it does make sense for some of the issues I am going thru. I realize it is another fad diet. But wanted others thoughts on it Mon, 3 Mar 2014 14:01:03 EST hello I am actually new to "using" this site. I have over 80 pounds to lose. I am really looking for someone to start running with, and am open to morning runs (before 7). Just let me know if you know of anyone or you yourself are interested. Mon, 3 Mar 2014 12:53:50 EST March Fitness Madness -- come and join us!!!! Hi Everyone - this message string is for the folks that are joining together to have some fun around our fitness minutes.

I am committing to do 1000 minutes in March. As I got ready to make the commitment to myself, it scared me a bit. The reason for this is because I know myself -- a perfectionist who takes failure badly :( My usual M.O. is that, if I "miss it" just 1 day, I will scratch the whole thing and decide I have failed. But, NOT THIS TIME!!!

I decided t... Sun, 2 Mar 2014 20:20:24 EST Starting over again today Have not been doing anything special but I have lost 4 lbs last week. Not sure how but I did. Trying to eat better today. Sat, 1 Mar 2014 11:42:55 EST What do you do for exercise and how long Just curious what others in this group do for exercise. Right now I've been doing Walk Away the Pounds (usually a 3 or 4 mile) 3 times a week and a Jessica Smith video (one of her 30-40 mins ones) 2 times a week with strength training for about ten minutes 5 days a week. I take Saturdays and Sundays off usually. Fri, 28 Feb 2014 13:38:56 EST Just for fun - Friday Fives! :-) I used to do this years ago on another message board, just for fun.
