I don't know why I do that. My weight keeps growing. Started on a path to receive surgery only to have that sidelined due to my husband losing his job. I forced myself to start that process, I think I always knew it wasn't the right decision for me. I have over 200 pounds to lose, which is ridiculous. Two weeks in on my new start and I'm doing really well with keeping on top of my goals. I struggle daily with ... Mon, 28 Sep 2015 15:23:27 EST Workout Sneakers Good Morning All,

I am looking for some good workout sneakers that don't have an arch (arches in my sneakers seem to both my feet). I have really wide feet and all the sneakers I have purchased in the past seem to be so tight and uncomfortable (even if I bought a size bigger). Hello everyone,

I have created a FRESH account however this is not my first rodeo I have been on Sparkpeople multiple times in the past some success stories and some not so much…however, the one thing that remained consistent is I have yet to give up on myself.

I am happy to say I am in it to win it this time. I am approaching this journey with a whole new attitude than I ever have before as a LIFESTYLE change not as a diet or a quick fix.

Why? Because I hav... Fri, 28 Aug 2015 22:21:46 EST Sad day for me! I had an Aha Moment tonight well I was working tonight that lead me straight to this group. I know that I am not a skinny little girl by any means however I have always carried myself well and never though of myself as a "overweight person" or "the fat girl". I noticed that I haven... Sun, 23 Aug 2015 00:02:37 EST My pants are getting longer As I am losing the weight and I'm toning my legs (it's happening even if it may not be immediately apparent) I'm already seeing my clothing fit differently. The funniest thing, to me, is that it feels like my pants are getting longer.

Not really - it's just that they're not so tight around my thighs or my waist anymore and they droop. I'm actually having to wear belts to keep some of them up. I'm hoping to use the belts and/or hem my jeans to make them last a couple sizes as I... Sat, 15 Aug 2015 20:26:05 EST Article about (post) wt loss, and body image

Found this older article in Marie Claire online about what it's was like for the reader post weight loss. VERY interesting for me. I often feel "naked" when my skin is exposed (legs, arms, etc). So, the article really hit home for me. Sun, 9 Aug 2015 17:33:02 EST Beginners Work Outs I am a total beginner level work out kind of person right now. My husband bout me the Extreme Makeover Work Out DVD about 3 years ago and we used to do it together in the mornings before I left for work and I could actually keep up okay. Then he started working as a truck driver and was gone for two weeks at a time and I fell out of sync for doing it being the only one to take care of the kids I was just always so tired and busy. Recently he bought at my request the 21 day fix program which c... Fri, 7 Aug 2015 12:13:22 EST Can we talk about Tess Holliday for a minute.... Tess Holliday (plus sized model) is a beautiful girl, and a fantastic model. No doubt about that!

I don't know if she personally has even been quoted on her "stats" physically. Good Morning All!

My name is Kim and I am in Houston. I have been overweight nearly my entire life - since puberty hit! I have tried many of the 'd' word to no avail. Tue, 28 Jul 2015 11:14:31 EST Hello from Chicago Hi everyone! I'm Jacque from Chicago, I'm looking to loose about 110 lbs to reach the high end of what's supposed to be healthy. I'm the mommy of 3 children, Nathan, my angel baby Angelique-Michole, and Wesley. Sat, 25 Jul 2015 15:44:05 EST Hi from Alaska Hello :)

I've been trying to find a hiking buddy locally for years. I live in a town of 8,000 on a remote island with so many gorgeous hiking trails... so I thought it would be easy to find a hiking buddy. Unfortunately people here seem to fall into two categories - ultra marathoner trail runners who run over mountain ranges like they are speed bumps, or people who flat refuse to go outside until the next tsunami evacuation forces them to.

So I'm hoping I can make some f... Thu, 23 Jul 2015 21:03:26 EST Hey from NC Hello there! I've done this before...joined SP. And WW. Sigh...I just keep growing bored and any weight I lose I end up gaining back. But I have a goal of losing 185 lbs over the next few years. I'd like to do that by the time I hit age 35.... 3.5 years. Totally possibly, right? Well I've really failed over the last several years and today I feel like saying screw trying to start on a Monday or the 1st of the month or "start over" becuase I fell into a ravenous black hole of stuffing food down my... Tue, 21 Jul 2015 13:55:48 EST Getting started with low carb Hello,

I'm looking to lose a total of 135 pounds ultimately, but would like to knock 15% off my body weight before my next dr. visit in 3 months (or come close to it). I'm doing low carb, but no specific diet. I am starting consistent exercise with walking 30 minutes a day. Look forward to learning from and with you. 524 Sat, 18 Jul 2015 18:25:03 EST Good morning, I guess Hello everyone;

I have been a member of SP off and on for well over 10 years. I always start off with a great attitude and determination, and that only lasts for a couple of months before old habits start creeping back in.

A couple of winters ago, my mother and I did Dr. Fuhrman's Eat-To-Live program. We both lost weight, but didn't realize what it was doing to our metabolism. It was slowed way down.. so of course when we did eat more later on, it all stuck.

... Thu, 16 Jul 2015 09:49:09 EST Hello! Feeling discouraged. I used to be on spark people YEARS ago. Its strange navigating the new message boards and everything. Anyhow...I am currently somewhere around 275 lbs, which has been the highest I have ever been. I suffer from PCOS and depression which just makes losing weight so hard (like it isn't already). I lost about 50 pounds in 2010 doing South Beach, since my body honestly hates carbs or sugars. If I eat any of those weight loss is just not going to happen. But my biggest set back right now is exerci... Tue, 14 Jul 2015 22:38:37 EST does anyone else have insulin resistance? my doc says i have insulin resistance. He recommended a low glycemic diet. I had an account ages upon ages ago that lasted halfway through the day I signed up. I think my mother was my friend and, much as I love her, I just couldn't stand her relentless cheeriness.

I am a grump, plain and simple, when it comes to weight loss and exercise. My name is CJ and I am 29 years old from Iowa. Joined SP today.. but have been motivated to make some changes for awhile now. Since I started my journey to a healthier lifestyle I have noticed so many wonderful changes like being able to play with my son and not getting tired. Being able to go shopping without it exhausting me for the rest of the day. I can run for the first time in years! I've lost and gained weight back after multiple injuries. I need to lose more than 100 pounds just to feel normal again. I travel quite a bit and my breaking point was on one particular airplane I almost had to ask for a seatbelt extension and my butt was just over the edge of my seat, creeping on the other person. UGH so frustrating. I beat myself up over it for weeks (which also resulted in a 10 pound weight gain) Losing weight, feeling healthy... Tue, 9 Jun 2015 13:42:13 EST Greetings one and all I'm a 30 year old graduate student trying to lose weight, get in shape, and finish my master's degree. I've always struggled with my weight and with being sedentary. Seriously, I was even born fat. But this last year, my first as a grad student, was an eye-opening experience. The combination of stress eating, not sleeping, stressing out, not exercising, stressing out some more, and subsisting primarily on diet coke really took a toll on me. My long-term goal is to lose 100 lbs. (I'm at 2... Sat, 16 May 2015 13:45:47 EST Tracking fitness minutes... So, I have a couple of questions for you guys. Do any of you use the Walk Away the Pounds videos for your fitness? If so, how do you track your fitness minutes? For example, today, I did the 2 mile walk segment, twice. The whole thing runs approximately 33 minutes but I only recorded it as 20 minutes of low impact aerobics, because there is a warm up and cool down period incorporated into that 33 minutes. Do you think that that was accurate, or should I have recorded it as a full 30 minutes? Fri, 15 May 2015 20:12:28 EST Returning Hi,

I'm Michelle. At one time I might have said that I was heavy set but healthy but even that isn't true anymore. I know that all my health problems are tied to my weight ... Wed, 29 Apr 2015 16:54:30 EST Hello I am Jeanette Hi I am a returning member to Spark People. I have reached the point in my life that I have to make changes if I want to be healthy and be there for my daughters. I have been making changes little by little at home and also joined a gym. I've been on this team before but have been gone for a while. It's great to be back! I need the challenges and the accountability! My weight is the highest it's ever been and I'm so unhappy all the time. I feel like life is passing me by. I need to turn this around now! 252 Sat, 25 Apr 2015 21:47:51 EST I'm a newbie! Hello! I joined Spark People a few years ago, but lasted only a few weeks, then gave up. I'm back on again, but this time in a different place. In the past I was just kind of searching for options, but not really doing anything. Now I'm having gastric bypass surgery on May 14th to help me lose about 270 pounds. Looking at this site now, I see I'm not the only one that struggles, and I look forward to support from all walks of life. I need all the help I can get. :) Fri, 24 Apr 2015 16:59:24 EST Almost at the 5% mark ... A week into it and I've lost 12 pounds (almost four percent). I started on Sparkpeople almost four years ago, I started at 239 lbs and was down almost 10 pounds in a little over a month using it when I found out I was pregnant. The doctors had told me after my daughter that I would never be able to get pregnant again. But they were wrong. The pregnancy was very high risk, with me on bed rest the whole time and only given a 1% chance to actually carry to a safe delivery date and having a living healthy child. About half... Thu, 23 Apr 2015 15:23:58 EST Back after having a baby! I joined over a year ago but took a long break away after getting pregnant. I just had my baby 3 weeks ago and ready to start trying again. I have a couple of months off of work and want to use that time to really take care of me and baby while I can. Thu, 23 Apr 2015 14:07:56 EST I am Michael. Where to start? I have 139.4 lbs to lose. ( sorry). I started a spark account last year but got distracted. I had lost 85 pounds about six years ago, but then gained it back and then some. Go figure, eating enough food to feed a small country isn't a very good weight loss strategy. I hit rock bottom with my weight on feb 24 when I saw the highest number I have ever seen. My name is Sarah:) I'm 32 years old and I'm a writer, knitter, wife, and mom to two kitty babies. I've been "trying" to lose weight my entire adult life. I've never really been part of a group before, so this is a first for me :) I've been on SparkPeople for three days tracking my food and I have to say I love it... Since I've started my new account I have already lost 11 lbs... YAY me, however, I have 132 lbs to go to reach my goal. That being said, I once said I never would allow myself to weigh over 200 lbs, so the understanding I have with the skinny me, is once that 200 mark is reached, the goal is going t... Hi,

My name is Lisa and I live in Tennessee with my husband and two daughters, ages 16 and 8. I have struggled with my weight my entire life, but have had even more of a hard time since being diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS in 2005. Right now I am really struggling with my weight and what diet plan to choose to help me lose weight. Women with PCOS have an even harder time losing weight because of the PCOS, so I am trying to figure out what diet plan to use. I ha... Sat, 7 Mar 2015 19:18:31 EST Good Morning! I just re-joined last night after a two-year hiatus. So here's the facts:

My name is Amy. I'm 32. I find introductions extremely awkward. I have been overweight since I was a child and was forced to start my first diet at 14. Since then, I have tried more weight loss plans than I can count. Some have been more successful than others, but I have always gained the weight back. I currently need to lose between 100 and 150 pounds, depending on who you ask.

Fri, 6 Mar 2015 05:40:27 EST Activity Tracker and Extra Calories Hey all!

Question for everyone. So I found a cool feature on here. It allows you to factor in your exercise for your daily calories. I liked that so I use it. The thing is I don't eat all the calories in that range daily. I'm usually under it. I like using it cause I can eat a little more but I wonder if it's a bad thing that I'm not doing more than 1650 calories when I'm exercising heavily.

What do y'all think? I really don't want to go into my 40s with this excess weight. I have had an SP account for years but fell off the wagon a few years ago. Now I am back and hopefully this time will be different. I did rejoin weight watchers but have not really gotten back into exercising yet. Anyway, look forward to reading and learning from everyone. Wed, 4 Mar 2015 14:58:06 EST New to Me! Hello Everyone,

I am new here and in need of support, guidance, and motivation. Please help me start! So far, I haven't found the energy to do anything but sleep. I am severely overweight and when I get home from work I just want to crawl into bed because my body hurts so much. I cannot stand for more than 5-7 minutes without pain. I was thinking about how when I used to pack my lunch and snacks when I worked outside the home how much better I did. I was thinking about doing that again. I would pack my lunch and all of my snacks into my old work cooler. I would then sit it by my "desk" each day and then only eat what is in it during normal working hou... Beyond measuring my success by calories burned, or lbs lost, I can measure by noticeable changes in my health. For as long as I can remember, I've had a resting heart-rate of about 95-100 bpm, even when I weighed significantly less. Since I've made changes to my diet, and started regular exercise, my resting rate has dropped to the mid 70's, where it belongs. I also have energy throughout the day, am sleeping better, and don't have nearly as many aches and pains.

Other than your w... Fri, 30 Jan 2015 12:24:23 EST Have any of you had this notice?
*The number of calories you should eat to manage your weight depends on many factors, including how many calories you burn through exercise. It may seem counterintuitive, but eating too little while burning too much can actually hurt your weight-management goals and the outcome of your fitness program. If you are consistently burning more calories than recommended here, please update your fitness settings as soon as possible. This may adjust your calorie ranges (if necessary) so you can... Thu, 29 Jan 2015 19:04:45 EST Superbowl Workout Have you all seen this Superbowl Workout?
4/super_bowl_workout.pdf
Basically, every time something significant happens on the field, there is an associated exercise to perform.

I'm totally in, but I may need to change some of the exercises because of limitations. (I'm on hernia #4, so crunches and such aren't best for me at the moment). I can't wait to see how many calories I burn!

Who is going to join me?
Wed, 28 Jan 2015 08:29:27 EST Hi Y'all from Geogia Just joined spark, and I am starting my weight loss journey for what I hope is the LAST time! I am 35 but will be 36 in just about a week and I am done with not being happy or healthy. Wish me luck....scratch that...wish me will power! Best of everything to all of you! Tue, 27 Jan 2015 23:57:23 EST just outside philly I just turned 35 and I have been dueting for at least the past 10 years. Its only the past year that I've had doctors telling me that i need to lose weight. I'm single and trying to change that, but its hard when you have 104 pounds to lose. Tue, 27 Jan 2015 20:57:04 EST Just a little bit more? Question--I really want others input on this. When you are done with your exercise, do you ever feel like you have more to give? If so, what do you do?

I know when it starts to get easy then you do something different or increase the weight next time, but what about right then? Twice I have had this--I have went outside for a walk around the block once the 1st time/twice the 2nd.

Wondering if you can overdo it and should I just stick to the workout. I worry tha... Share your favorite menus here! I don't know about you, but I am always looking for something new to put on the lunch/dinner menu. I'd love to see people post what they are eating, and if possible add calorie info or recipes/links to recipes. I get tired of the same 5 or 6 meals, so variety is always welcome.

Generally, I try to use leftovers in my lunches. Last night was honey mustard baked chicken. I took a leftover serving of that chicken (about 4 oz) with 1/2 a portobello mushroom (cubed) and topped it with ... Mon, 26 Jan 2015 11:55:44 EST New Here! Getting back on track! Hi there! I'm Gena, I'm from Montana and going to be 37 in just a month. After many many.............many failed "diets" and fads I've decided its time to do this the right way. I'm sick of losing 20 and then gaining 40 when you look at a piece of bread! The food trackers have been awesome, I never ate breakfast, or lunch, and would pretty much survive on coffee until dinner. So I thought I wasn't eating that much, but would be so hungry my portion size would be larger, and we'd usuall... Mon, 26 Jan 2015 08:24:34 EST Real or Fake???
Okay, in the past when I would diet I would go fake everything, diet foods all you name it.

Now I'm doing a little of both. I have just started what is going to be a LONG journey. However, I know this time my reason for taking it on is right and I think that will be the difference between the failures in my past and THIS time! I wish ALL of you the best in your journies :) Fri, 23 Jan 2015 12:49:35 EST What Motivates You? I'm curious to know what you use as motivation. That could be something you focus on daily, weekly, long term, or even moment to moment.

Personally, I am motivated by the scale and the mirror. It's always a super-huge boost when I think I see some change, and without mentioning it to her, get a "hey, you can see the difference" from my wife. Long term, I want to shock my family, who I see about twice a year. It'll be about 5 months until they are in town again, and another 4 or so... Fri, 23 Jan 2015 11:08:10 EST Me spewing with words? Fri, 23 Jan 2015 00:34:49 EST Hello! I'm a 30 year old woman who is lucky enough to have been married to my amazing husband for almost 11 years. I've been blessed with 2 children (boy and a girl) and am currently living in southern Kentucky.
As of right now, I'm weighing in at 100 lbs over a healthy weight for my height. It's so hard for me to write that because quite frankly, it's embarrassing that I've allowed myself to go this far. I've made excuses...heck, I'm pretty sure that I'm the Queen of the Excuses, but at the e... Thu, 22 Jan 2015 21:10:36 EST Just 10!?!?!?!!?! I'm sure alot of people can relate and you might be tired of hearing this, but why do I do this to myself? I have lost the weight before and gained it all back plus some and I did it the right way. New lifestyle, exercise, gained muscle, so strong, eating healthy, motivated, running, hit my goal and thought I'm good, I'm done now. Maintenance is harder than losing weight! I am back up, way up. Walking is a struggle. I am so out of shape it hurts emotionally and phys... Tue, 20 Jan 2015 09:24:09 EST Hi everyone! My name is Heather and I am a 34 year old mom of 1. My son is 7 and has aspergers syndrome, my husband is a truck driver and is out 2 weeks at a time, and my mom (who lives with us) was just recently diagnosed with cancer. Mon, 19 Jan 2015 13:07:38 EST How many day 1's can we really have? Just as my topic suggests, this is probably about my 20th day 1 since I have joined spark. The first time I joined spark I did wonderful, lost 60lbs, was only 20lbs from my goal weight and I stopped, thought I had it all under control. Gained it all back. Started again, lost about 40lbs, and quit, next time lost less, and next even less. Every time I have started I have lost less and quit sooner. I always put myself last, I have 4 kids and a wonderful husband and they all come first. I l... My family can't go without their cookies/desserts/ pizza... etc.

I tried in the past and my mom even said well how is that fair for your family that just cause you can't control yourself that they can't have it... which obviously really hurt me at the time...

I've tried really hard to "control" myself but I fall off every time when I do. I have found I do better if I avoid it al... Sun, 18 Jan 2015 00:20:00 EST Hello! Hi! I'm Margaret. I'm 36 and new to Sparkpeople. I am looking to focus on my health and lose weight along the way. I am so excited to have found such an excellent and free service!

I have struggled with weight my entire life. After years of yo-yo fad dieting and misery, I finally decided enough was enough in October 2014 when I decided to give my life a health makeover. Not too sure what to post but I'm new (again). I was on SP a few years back but life happened and I almost hit break down point. I'm trying a different method this time as well. The past few years my immune system has not been as strong as in the past and with all my stress I've been dealing with the last while I broke out into shingles in Nov and Dec (yes, twice!) last year. Since then I've had a lot of my hair fall out (not bald but hand fulls of hair from the shingles...... Tue, 13 Jan 2015 13:06:25 EST Breakfast Shakes Two things are true, I am terrible at eating breakfast, and I need to get more protein and fiber. I thought I would try a protein shake for breakfast. I bought a 4pk of slimfast and frankly it wasn't so good. It was too sweet and too thick. I am looking at other alternatives such as Boost, Ensure, Special K.

I was wondering if anyone drinks these type of things and had a suggestion on which ones actually taste good!

Thanks! Tue, 13 Jan 2015 13:05:48 EST What about your aha moment??? I've had so many it's embarrassing .....

My last one that really shook me up was a video I found on my daughters tablet. I'm usually very strict that if I end up in them or a picture I will actually take away their tablets.. yah. Sucks that I have to feel that way and be that way. BUT anyway... I found this video they were recording of the three of them eating lunch and in the background I could see me. Doing just normal picking up and seeing myself move.... made me shocked! ... What is your goal for the week?

My goal this week is to walk 5 miles. I know it isn't much but I want to start exercising again without hurting myself to badly. Okay, I ate 2 x the amount of calories I was suppose to today 198
Sooo what do I do? Do I just follow the recommended tomorrow and jump back on like today didn't happen? Sun, 11 Jan 2015 00:15:01 EST New to the group Hi everyone! My name is Jen and I'm from western Canada. I was formerly in the 20-something with 100+ to lose group but alas, I have turned 30. I had lost over 90 pounds with SP since joining a couple years ago but unfortunately about half of those pounds found me again in 2014. Although I'm obviously not thrilled about my weight gain, the only (productive) thing I can do about it now is move forward and persist in my effort to make healthy, sustainable changes, and be thankful I didn't gain ... Fri, 9 Jan 2015 23:44:38 EST Hello, Friends! Hi, all! I've been a Spark user sporadically for more than a decade, but recently have come to a place in my life where I feel ready to truly commit. I started this most recent journey about two months ago, and have lost about ten pounds so far - making small changes, experiencing small successes, and then building on that seems to be really helping me. I have about two hundred pounds to lose, but trying to look at things one "leg" at time - focusing for now on the first 40, and glad to alrea...
