SparkPeople Nursing Students Squad Team Messageboard Nursing school is tough! We need to stick together and help each other out. Together we can get fit and be nurses! SparkPeople Nursing Students Squad Team Messageboard The New Girl Hi everyone! My name is Dannette and a 21 year old 1st year RN student. I noticed my first semester that I "munch" a lot while studying and working on care plans--which became very noticeable, very quickly! It was also very hard for me to find time to work out during my 1st semester because when I wasn't studying I was extremely tired! I'm curious to see what works for you guys and how you manage school work with gym time. Mon, 9 Jan 2012 16:12:55 EST Hello! I'm Lindsay. I'm a CNA/PCA and starting nursing school block 1 on January 17th, 2012. I'm incredibly excited and freaked out all in one. I'm going to be working full time in the Women & Infant Services department while I'm going to school. Luckily, each semester will be 3 days a week with online assignments so I can try to have one day off a week.

Now that I'm working in Women & Infant services, particularly the day shift, I've gained 17 pounds. I loved nights because it was quiet... Looking forward to meeting lots of friends! Sat, 14 May 2011 01:41:30 EST Hello My name is Corrissa. I will be starting Nursing clinical in August of this year. Yesterday I went to the University's information session about nursing school and found out how they accept students.

They take about 188 each year (last year they had 300 apply). Mon, 15 Jun 2009 01:10:00 EST I Passed Nursing School!!! This past Tuesday I took my Med/Surg 3 final and I passed with an 89! I'm SO excited! Now all I have to do is pass the NCLEX:) Oh yeah... and get back on board with SP b/c I have totally neglected my weight. :/ Sun, 17 May 2009 07:42:55 EST Done with Level I... I just finshed my last tests today for Level I, once I take my boards I'll be an LPN. We took a comprehensive test yesterday and it predicts that I pass the NCLEX with a 97% probability on the first try! I'm so proud of myself for making it this far. Our pinning ceremony is saturday morning. I'm so excited.

Level II starts on May 11. Thu, 30 Apr 2009 20:47:21 EST Yikes Okay, so I have not been around much and I'm sorry for that. As we all know, school can take over our life from time to time. Which is the main reason this board is so slow now, I think. My school journey will be over in three weeks. *whew* I will try to be more active here as I get the time.

I have a few ideas I'd like to try out on the board, but just don't have the time to implement them just yet. Tue, 7 Oct 2008 11:30:27 EST TEAS Hi Everyone,

I am taking my last pre-requisite, A&P II. I am applying to nursing schools and for one of the schools the TEAS exam is a requirement. Has anyone taken this exam? If so, how was it? I only have until the 15th to take the exam and apply. The study materials are $40 and the exam is $40 -- who knew this journey I have chosen would be so expensive. 41 41

Thank You Sun, 7 Sep 2008 17:19:58 EST New- A Non-traditional Nursing Major Hi! Tue, 29 Jul 2008 05:46:30 EST A question for people who have been in RN program. For those of you that have been in the busy busy RN program and have a young child (because I do so that would be closer to my situation), how have you managed to stick to healthy eating and regular exercise while having a hectic lifestyle? Any tips/tricks to being prepared, and to still lose weight while going to school? :) My first quarter in the nursing program starts September 22nd, and I've been thinking a lot about how if I am going to get to 150 by April 2009, I am gonna have to contin... Tue, 5 Feb 2008 13:24:55 EST Not Losing and Getting Bummed Has anyone else had a problem losing the weight? I've been following the healthy diet plan and working out at least 5 times a week for the past 2 weeks and I have lost 1 pound. This is very discouraging, since I feel like I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be doing and nothing is happening. I do feel more tone, but I really would like to see results on the scale! 39 Wed, 23 Jan 2008 09:49:11 EST New to the group Hi! I'm Connie and currently doing my Peds/OB clinicals. I'm also in the accelerated RN program and looking to graduate in Aug. '08.
Unfortunately, studying 24/7 is not conducive to weight loss.
I'm looking to take advantage of a lighter class load by losing the weight I've gained. I find it hard to fit exercise in, but have been trying my best. How does everyone manage it all???? Wed, 16 Jan 2008 12:39:10 EST Budget issues Hey everybody...

I have a quick question. I've been having issues with finding things that I can make for my entire family that is decent for everyone but isn't budget breaking.

A lot of diet plans have things in there that are specific to the dieter. I have all my pre-reqs done and there is a program at UTSA that if you have your LVN and all Pre-Reqs done, you work for a year and then the bacholars(sp?) only takes 3 semester. I want to be a Pediatric nurse, so I think if I want to be picky I need to get my BSN. I have 3 kids and married for 12 years, to a not all the time supportive husband. I really need to get back on track and hope I can stay with it next semester cuz I have my officer training in June and I really want to be at my goal by then. Sat, 15 Dec 2007 12:45:48 EST Yey!! I passed with good grades, level 2 (of 4) nursing....I'm very excited because I am a mom full time, wife full time and work full time on top of a full time day nursing program. Now I am finding myself de-stressed for the winter break and frankly a little bored. Anyhow, just thought I'd share and pat myself on the back since there were a bunch of people that don't work and didn't pass. I must have SOME brain cells.....good luck to all. Wed, 14 Nov 2007 21:33:15 EST Hello from Philly! Hay guys..Im from philadelphia and am currently in my 2nd year of nursing school and let me tell you the long nights of cramming and no sleep do little to help my weight loss along! Let's be sure to help each other out...i know im going to need it! Wed, 7 Nov 2007 10:35:12 EST I fear Nursing school will be the death of my spirit and my desire to change my eating lifestyle. See today after a stress filled day, I discovered that egg nog has hit the shelves. I haven't been the same since. I even had two pieces of Halloween candy. Ugh. Wed, 24 Oct 2007 20:43:24 EST Hello? Is everyone just too busy? I've taken a break from the past three days of studying to stop in and say "hey". I have an exam tomorrow and another on Friday. I just joined up and am hoping this will help motivate me to stay on target to lose another five pounds. There just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to get it all done!
Mon, 8 Oct 2007 11:18:34 EST A good read! I just finished a book that I highly recommend. My studying suffered a bit as I sped thru this book.

A Nurse's Story by Tilda Shalof

The author has worked in the ICU for over 10 years and shares some of her experiences. There was a lot of "wow, I want to be a nurse" moments for me, and a few "what am I thinking?" moments. She has another book out that will be on my Christmas wish list. Sat, 6 Oct 2007 21:38:18 EST Why do they make things so hard!! I don't know about at everyone else's school, but it seems some of our non-nursing instructers make classes so much more difficult than they really need to be! I mean study study study and get 78 and 80's. And the instructers offer no advice or give no clues as to what the exams will be like. And if by chance they do usually what they say never even shows up! Anyway, that is my vent for today! Wed, 3 Oct 2007 07:55:52 EST How's it going? Passed my first nursing school exam! Have my first pharmacology exam on friday, but that one doesn't worry me much.

I've been trying to squeeze in practice time for basic assessment, but it's been really hard. Sat, 22 Sep 2007 22:59:09 EST stethoscopes I have a stethoscope that was given to me as a birthday gift a few years ago. It was a $50 model, Littman Lightweight II SE. I find it really hard to hear stuff with it, so I'm looking to get a better one.

What stethoscope do you like? Mon, 17 Sep 2007 22:46:18 EST Challange? I am really trying to keep my stress down probably like most of you. So I thought why not have a challange that deals with that.

Here is how it will work if you want to join in.
create a post and edit it to add what you have done throughout the next four weeks.

1. Wed, 12 Sep 2007 13:27:52 EST Starting Final Year Well my final year started a few weeks ago and it is going to be busy. I am already having a hard time keeping up on the reading. I have my first lab practical in Micro tomorrow. Not sure how everyone else's school does it but we have gone so fast we have barely gotten to looks at slides more than twice!!
Pray for me.. I will need it!
Ashley Wed, 12 Sep 2007 10:49:25 EST Yippie! I passed my validation on taking Temp, pulse, resp, and BP! My hands were shaking so badly I didn't think I'd make it thru. I sure hope I get the shakes under control before I have to give an injection! Thu, 6 Sep 2007 15:59:31 EST taking a BP Hi!

When I take my own BP or my husband's BP I think I do a fine job. But at school I've been practicing with the double stethoscope because that will be used during my validation next Wedesday. I'm having the toughest time with it. There is so much extra noise going on with that one that I just can't hear the blood pulsing.

Does anyone have any tips I can try? Thanks! Wed, 29 Aug 2007 22:53:38 EST So frustrating! As we all know, a nursing program requires quite a bit of out-of-class work to do at the college. My husband knew this going in, but has yet to come to grips with it. Everytime I say I'm going in early or staying late, he moans and sighs and makes me feel so guilty. In his defense, we have a number of problems going on now, like my car overheating, so we are down to one. And my son has been running a fever for four days now. Also, my husband needs to be out and about for his work.
... Mon, 27 Aug 2007 17:34:03 EST First week is done! *whew*

Monday night and Tuesday nights were pure hell trying to get all the reading done for the next class. Fri, 24 Aug 2007 08:19:40 EST I may be on to somethin! Didn't want to post until I had tried it a few times.

Because of my class schedule I don't often get to eat supper with the family So when I do sit down to eat, I tried lighting a heavily fragranced candle a half an hour before. I noticed I don't eat as much. No kidding! I discussed it with my Anatomy/Physiology teacher, and she said it's because your olfactory nerves pick up the sent of the candle, not the food. Smelling food increases hunger, and causes you to eat more than your... Wed, 22 Aug 2007 15:47:20 EST I'm a newby! I'm 2 days new to SP.
