Wed, 8 Aug 2012 09:41:16 EST Hello bento newbie here Hi I have never made a bento before, but it looks like fun! I love anime and manga, so this team looks like a natural fit for me. Making bento looks like a fun way to control portion sizes and take a lunch to school at the same time. I go to art school and spend long hours there, and I am worried about buying food at school during the school year, I think that making bento might be a good solution to this problem. I look forward to talking to all of you in the future. Mon, 23 Jul 2012 13:54:35 EST Hiya Bento Buddies! I can't wait to start "playing" with my food. ^_^ I attempted to make Onigiri today, and sadly you cannot m... Tue, 22 Jul 2008 14:43:35 EST New to the team, but not bentos! Hi there, Bento Buddies! I've been on Spark for a while now, and I'm finally getting in gear and *using* it. My husband and I both love to do bento lunches and snack packs, and I was so glad to find this team. Always looking for new ideas and recipes, and ways to make daily bentos prettier and more fun! Thu, 17 Jul 2008 16:22:20 EST Accountability Partners? Hey team!

I'm back in the saddle today, ready to buckle down and get things done. Hrm, guess that means I need to tackle the house too. Anyway...

Some of the other teams I participate in have set up accountability partners within the team. I got crazy lucky with my first one, and she's become a dear friend, a fantastic motivator, and sometimes slave driver. But she's what kept me going when things got rough, and was the first person I sought out when I came back from hia... Mon, 14 Jul 2008 10:42:03 EST How can we increase team involvement? It's been pretty quiet around here lately, and I'm just stumped.

On a different team, someone asked what makes you leave a team. On the same note, I'm curious to know what makes you stay on a team? What kind of involvement are we looking for in our teams?

I'd like to incorporate those into the team here. So, what can we do to encourage more involvement in the team? Wed, 18 Jun 2008 11:00:54 EST Change to team goals! I'm super excited about this change. Thanks to popular demand, SP has made checkboxes an option for team goals. No more having to put in numbers if it's a check off sort of goal, like making a bento so many times a week.

So if you look, you'll see I've changed the current team goal to allow for checkboxes instead. Wed, 18 Jun 2008 10:55:13 EST Favorite Bento Item? Of course you can stick anything in your bento if you want, but I was wondering what everyone else liked in theirs?

I loooove edamame, tamagoyaki or flavored tofu cubes. Those are nice for my protein. Sticky rice is a must. Snap peas and carrots for my veggies. Tempura fried broccoli or sweet potatoe good too, but that's once in a while. Tue, 10 Jun 2008 22:03:38 EST New Challenges? Ok, team, I know we can reach our goals if we all stick together!

So...

What goals are we interested in setting as a team? And challenges that particularly appeal to you? I've set one team goal for making 3 healthful bento per week. What else would you like to see for goals or challenges? Water drinking? Eating fruits and veggies? Fiber goals? Fitness goals? Walking challenges?

Respond here with your ideas for team goals and for challenges you'd like to partic... Mon, 26 May 2008 23:32:00 EST So salty! Ok, so I have a confession to make. Last week, I tried my first umeboshi. I had it tucked away into my bento with my rice. When I licked the juice off my fingers from packing it, all I got was sour, but a delicious sort of sour. So when I bit into the little plum at lunch... HELLO! I was not expecting it to be so salty! Wow! Anyway, it's great with rice, but I'd definately not suggest eating it by itself. It might pickle your tongue! Mon, 26 May 2008 12:13:44 EST G'day Bento Buddies! I'm so excited to have found this team!
My kids have always had a bento style lunchbox and we are always looking for new ideas. I look at the variety of colors when it's done and wish I had lunches like that when I was in school, I got a cheese sandwich and an apple! Mon, 5 May 2008 21:36:42 EST New to This Team!! Hi my name is Sarah and I am so excited about this team!! I have been doing my own version of ghetto bento for a while with foods that I'm used to eating. I haven't been able to find a real bento box here yet, so I am going to order one off the internet as a reward when I loose a certain amount of weight. Other than that, if you have questions go ahead and ask! Thu, 1 May 2008 13:22:18 EST Hello from Wisconsin! Hi my name is Charlotte. I'm sort of new to Sparks; I joined in November, but I haven't really done anything here 2 But, I heard that other bento fans were here so I decided to join this team! :)
I'll be honest, I have a hard time keeping up with message boards (I homeschool, have a website and blog to keep up, considering going back to school, and I'm working on a book - I don't have a lot of time.), but I'm going to try my best!
Anyway, I look forward to getting to know... Mon, 28 Apr 2008 11:13:17 EST Hello! New to team! I'm new to the team and have recently gotten into making cute Bento boxes with my mother! We just started Thursday, however I have done this once or twice within the many years of getting my life and work organized. lol I had told my mom about bento creations Wednesday and she was instantly hooked! (I created a monster) I then found her in the basement digging for old containers or anything we could use to shape or divide with. This was failure so we went to target and found a stackable dishw... Sat, 26 Apr 2008 16:10:47 EST Hello! I am so glad that there is a bento group on Spark People. What fun!

My name is Mer and I just made my 100th bento lunch not too long ago. I love the way it helps me pack more healthy food, and really controls my portions! When I started packing bentos, I thought there was no way they would fill me up... surprise!

If you want to see pictures of my bentos, and read a bit more about them, I post at
.

Also, my Spar... Mon, 14 Apr 2008 10:17:34 EST Weekly Bento Plans Is anyone else prepping food for their bento?

I'm making:

- tabbouleh
- hard-boiled eggs (for salads and soups)
- chopped veggies

What do you have for grab-and-go bento meals? Sat, 12 Apr 2008 19:13:32 EST Looking for Bento Buddies! Hi! I am new here, and creating fantastic bento lunches is my goal. I have done some already, but I need for this to become a healthy habit and am looking for inspiration and new ideas! Tue, 8 Apr 2008 22:23:12 EST new to bento I love the idea that you should get the size bento box that for how much calories you want to eat for lunch. I also love the idea of creating them so that when you go to open your lunch at work, you have to giggle at your own silly creation. I'm really new to all of this so I'm looking forward to learning everything. Mon, 7 Apr 2008 22:36:39 EST I'm a bento newbie! I came across this group while browsing sparkpages and I fell in love! Your flicker group led me to a bunch of awesome pictures and I'm totally psyched to make myself some lunches! I'm a college student and I think this will keep me from eating yucky student center food. (My college has a TERRIBLE food selection.) I do need to get myself a bento box but I will make do with some gladware containers until I reach a goal or two. If anyone has some beginner tips, I'd love to hear them! Wed, 20 Feb 2008 23:23:08 EST Question about bentos I recently discovered Bentos and I really want to try them as a good source of portion control for myself. I work late hours 3pm-midnight. My question is, would it be too much to pack myself a 'lunch' bento and a dinner bento? I usually eat a lunch around 3-330 and my dinner is during my lunch hour at work, most night 6-7. Then I end up coming home and grazing which isn't good! I just don't want the double bento to be too much food. I don't think it would, if I use the 600 ML bento box and ju... Mon, 4 Feb 2008 18:36:45 EST Dozo Yoroshiko Onigaishimasu! Konnichiwa! I am a new Bento Buddy. Watahshi-wa America-jin Gunjin Shufu-desu. I am an American housewife, living in Tokyo suburbs. I joined SP last April, am just figuring out how to join team, LoL!

Yes, I love bento, AND the food that comes in it. When DH packs them for sightseeing trips, I love opening my box to see what the heck he packed in there. When I pack them, I usually include a kawaii character for the kids (think of waterproof sticker), and they enjoy guessing wh... Tue, 29 Jan 2008 00:47:29 EST *wave* Hello! In the interests of losing weight, saving money and saving the environment, I'm back to bento. :)

I joined the Flickr group (my Flickr page is here:
). Heck, I even started a bento blog:

A little bit about me. I was a foreign exchange student in Tokyo for 7 weeks when I was 17. I lost probably between 10-20 lbs between my host mom's super-healthy cooking (and bentos!) and... Mon, 28 Jan 2008 12:39:44 EST I'm completely new to this stuff!! But I've been doing alot of research on the internet and I'm super excited to get more involved in making bento boxes!! It seems like a good way to help me with portion control and to learn to appreciate my food as I'm eating it instead of scarfing it all down as fast as possible and then subsequently over eating because my body doesn't realize its full! Wed, 2 Jan 2008 14:25:02 EST I love my Bento Hello,

I just got one for my christmas 30

this afternoon I'm going to go and see if I can find stuff to go with it.

have a great day
Wed, 26 Dec 2007 11:23:50 EST Recipie Site I was on a message board yesterday and we got on the topic of Bento and someone posted this site and I thought I would share it.

tm

Saw some interesting things on there. Enjoy. Fri, 26 Oct 2007 09:55:11 EST Hi Everyone! Hi! I have been so enthralled by bentos for quite some time! I just joined spark people, and was so excited to see a bento group! Wed, 17 Oct 2007 07:18:15 EST Looking for Inspiration I'm looking for some inspiration/motivation to make bento. Where do you go for bento eye-candy? What motivates you to make a bento, or even make a lunch, for the day? Sat, 13 Oct 2007 09:29:49 EST What's Your Favourite... Sun, 16 Sep 2007 09:46:53 EST Elle Lunch Bag I just picked up a great new lunch bag today - it's the Madison Lunch Bay by Elle. It's perfect to fit my bento in, plus an apple or small container of nuts. It also fits a small tri-bento I have (I like to pack cut fruit in it for a snack) and is thermally insulated so I can throw a cooler pack in to keep things cold. Three of my bentos came with bags, but they aren't insulated, so the cooler pack does nothing.

You can see that bag on It was only $15 Canadian at a loca... Wed, 12 Sep 2007 17:43:17 EST New to the Team....and to Bento Hey Everyone~

I just joined the team today and thought I should introduce myself.

My name is Keri, I'm 30, and have fallen in love with bento boxes. I fell in love with them quite some time ago while cruising eBay, and decided that I must have one.

In August, I had procured and started working a new job at yet another call center to supplement my income as a Massage Therapist.

The job and its pay had me all geared up for bentoing as I would be go... Sun, 9 Sep 2007 09:21:48 EST Online Bento Resources I've found some fun & informative websites for packing bento boxes. I was looking at purchasing it and was wondering how useful the content is.

Enjoy the day,
Melanie Thu, 6 Sep 2007 09:13:00 EST Where did you buy your bentos? I thought maybe we could start a topic where we would post stores we've purchased bento goods from. I know I don't have any local shops so I purchase my items from eBay sellers, and would love some recommendations from everyone!
30 Wed, 5 Sep 2007 12:49:06 EST Noob. Hi there. I'm Kristen, 28, mom to two-under-five.

I was turned on to bento lunches by the Vegan Lunch Box blog and cookbook last year, but not until this week did I buy any bento lunch boxes for our family.

I finally decided to take the plunge when my son started back to preschool this year. The school asks that the kids bring HEALTHY snacks to eat in the mornings, and apparently most parents' ideas of "healthy" includes cookies and potato chips. Well, of course, my son... Wed, 5 Sep 2007 09:48:51 EST The best thing about bentos besides the automatic portion control, is that ever since I started taking my lunch in them I have been eating more fruits and vegetables. If I am going to the trouble of packing a bento and taking pictures of it to put on flickr then I don't want it to be full of beige food! It's kind of funny that the only reason I eat them is because they are pretty, but I guess any reason is good enough if it works. :) Fri, 31 Aug 2007 23:26:39 EST Cheap Box! I'm not sure where to put this post, so if it needs to be moved, let me know!

I was cruising through the drugstore yesterday and found some really cool little boxes with the clicky sides and a rubber seal. Not as cute as some of the bento boxes I've seen, but a pretty cheap fix for getting started. They were at Kerr Drugs (don't know which states have these stores) and they are $1.99. i got a blue one that is about 5x8" and 2" deep. I was so excited! Unfortunatly it didn't survive ... Tue, 7 Aug 2007 16:57:50 EST my self-intro Hi! Hope y'all don't mind me joining in! I have a Mr. Bento, and I LOVE to use it, but I have trouble thinking of good, healthy, creative things to take for lunch. I'm hoping I'll find some interesting ideas here! I *thought* I had a good idea, fixing tortellini with a couple of tablespoons of pesto for the main dish, but then I checked the calories and fat and was floored!

Are there any other vegetarians in this group? Tue, 31 Jul 2007 22:25:55 EST New here . .. and to bentos . . Hello to everyone!
I am Gen and have recently joined up here at Spark, and have been doing research on japanese cuisine and ran across the bento box concept about a month or 2 ago. I have yet to get one, but I hope to soon. I love the presentations and creativity that bento lovers show. I also like the idea of cool lunch boxes that can hold the perfect amount of goodies!
I will be keeping in touch here and hopefully be set up and posting pictures of bentos soon. 4 Tue, 31 Jul 2007 16:31:35 EST Sorta new to team I joined a little while ago, but i haven't been active. I love bentos, but I have been lax in making them lately. Any good veggie ideas? I just got 2 new bentos and need to start using them again! Mon, 16 Jul 2007 11:17:31 EST New!!! (YAY) Hi!!!!!!!!! Just wanted to say hi!(did I just say that???? ^_^) Well I really like the idea of Bento and I have a box I am just having a hard time figuring out what to put in it! Mon, 2 Jul 2007 12:07:58 EST New to team and Bento boxes Hi, my name is Julea and have been doing sparks since the begining of the year. I have been lurking and not participating for over the last couple of months. I have not given up hope but need desperately to get back on track. I love bento boxes and need to get myself a cute one, actually one of my rewards for weight loss. Lunch at work is really tough. I think I do worse at work and then the day is shot. looking forward to getting some ideas and support. Tue, 19 Jun 2007 09:40:51 EST 100MILLBUT FLYS-intro Well i'll only put a blurb here since i've got my spark page filled out too ;)

I'm 27, married and have 3 children. i was invited over to this team and i LOVE IT! tomorrow (6-19-07) will be day two of my modified bento box lunch. not exactly japanese cuisine but modified to fit what i do have ;) it's helping alot!

so thanks for the invite!
PS, you can see my very first attempt on my spark page ;)
~V Tue, 19 Jun 2007 01:34:31 EST Bento Wishlist What kind of bento-related things do you want?

Currently I have a small bento box, but I would like a bigger one. My small one is good for portion control, but if I want to make a bento with a lot of fruit it wouldn't fit.

I would also like a family-sized celebration bento box so I could make things to share. :)

I have an onigiri shaper that I like, but I also want some weiner shapers!

Here are some:

http:... Hi my name's kirsty and i have recently (month or so) become interested in Bento lunches, traditionally a japanese packed lunch. the difference between a packed lunch and a Bento lunch is the appearance. bento lunches should be aesthetically pleasing and generally make use of colour or themes.

I love knowing what other people have for lunch mostly because i'm nosey so i though we could use this group for ideas, themes, recipes and bento supplies.

I also though (if we att...
