It's that time between Christmas and Lent. Personally, my favorite season of the church year is Lent, so I counted in my calendar how many days until Ash Wednesday. There are about 60 days until Ash Wednesday. We have a late Lent and Easter this year, so the question is how are we going to use this time. This is a season of growth, so let's commit ourselves to growing spiritually this season.
... It's a new month, how are we all doing? http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=0x1090x32394421 Today was my weekly weigh-in day and I lost 2 lbs, sound good but I am trying to keep it at 1 lb a week. I want to develop a lifestyle that will support a healthy weight and I want to do it right, hence striving for only a lb a week. BP was 120/84, pulse 69. I'm happy with my first 8 wks on spark. Wed, 3 Mar 2010 00:57:12 EST Just too funny! http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x1090x32321238 I belong to UMC and when I read the comment we Methodists love to eat I just had to chuckle, because, yes we DO! So I decided I must join this group! I am out here in northern California and my church is in Rescue but I think UMC has it listed as in Cameron Park, Calif. My husband and I are very involved with the church and several times have been over involved. We are trying to learn the fine art of not overdoing or saying yes all of the time as we tend to spread ourselves pretty thin. ... Over the years I've done something that signifies my own spiritual journey through Lent. Sometimes its a book I read. One year, I began the South Beach Diet and made it my Lenten Discipline to adhere to the principles of the South Beach Diet. One year it was committing myself to walking 100 miles a month. Not sure what my discipline will be this year. Do you have something you will do to push yourself in some way during this season of preparation for the Resurrection? ... Discipleship is a key component of Christian life. John Wesley created his "General Rules" to guide him as he strove to grow closer to God. The first of those rules is: "Do no harm."

How do you apply this in your life? Thank you Cathy for encouraging us to do this. My husband is currently a United Methodist pastor. I was a pastor for 17 years until I decided I needed to be more available to my family. I work as a psychotherapist. When I'm able to, I'm involved in the church where my husband and children are. We visited his church there. He goes to St. Luke's Episcopal in Waldport, OR.

When I attended AC last summer, I heard many times that we are a connectional church. Our pastor and secretary decided to hold a sort of Biggest Loser contest, and get folks to pledge per pound they lose. Money raised will go to pay the utilities for a new indoor play park we will start next month.

Well, I asked if I could join, and so did a member of our choir, so now we can have two "teams" for... It doesn't look like it will let up anytime soon either as we are starting the process to get ready for church conferences in the fall. October 26 sounds like it is a long way off, but with the way that bureaucracies (and church committees) work, we will be well served to be working on the paperwork, and next year's plans already, and we are. ... For awhile, when I was on Active Duty, I was in the Episcopal Church. Today I was at a workshop to receive some training for the church. In the Oklahoma Conference, we are undergoing a 'Strategic Planning' process. (I think that it was mislabeled from the beginning -- it is more like a 'back to basics' or 'How are we doing?' type of process). Many of the conference churches are confused as to what they are supposed to be doing, thus the session today. We gathered Certified Lay Speakers, Conf... As it is the first weekend of the month, I have a bit of accounting and bill paying to do, and that takes some priority.

We had a wonderful Communion Service this morning. I enjoy communion and all that it implies in our relationship with God. Our pastor's sermon was tied into the sacrament quite well.
