So are you ready? Let's HIIT. SparkPeople High Intensity Interval Training Team Team Messageboard HIIT & Tabata gym/track-free? Between traveling and wanting to be less and less dependent upon the gym, I'm looking for HIIT and Tabata ideas that don't require gym equipment nor running (an old injury prevents me). I jump rope every day. I jump rope well. I've incorporated it into various circuits but I can't imagine using it for sprints. I'm sure I would miss loads and I wouldn't get the high intensity I'm looking for. Jumping Jacks? Something with stairs? Burpees? Any ideas? Thu, 11 Apr 2013 17:26:20 EST HIIT & interval training in 2013 Since introducing HIIT several years ago, my workouts and their orientations have changed. I rarely do straight-up cardio anymore. Along with a couple of serious HIIT workouts a week, I've elaborated on the notion of interval training and incorporated intervals to various ST heavy circuits often throwing in some pylometrics. I'd like to take further this interval work of primarily bodyweight exercise with the addition of physio balls, medicine balls, bosu balls, dumbbells... and add it into t... Hi all! I'm new to this team and new to HIIT workouts. I read an article on SP about HIIT and decided to try it to help me out with my sluggish weight loss the past couple of months. I've been excited with my first few workouts and the results I'm seeing. An SP member suggested a website to me which I'm currently going through articles to educate myself more about HIIT. One of the articles I read suggested NOT using an elliptical for HIIT intervals as it doesn't give enough resistance to... Tue, 17 Apr 2012 13:55:41 EST HIIT Calories Burned ? I joined SP in 2008 about 5 months after having my older son as I was my heaviest weight I'd ever been, 186. I know that probably doesn't sound bad to some people, I'm also 5'9", so I didn't appear that heavy. However, since my mid-20s I had been steadily gaining weight (60 pounds in 6 years) and I didn't want to allow myself to get to a point of having weight ... There are other variables like the amount of repetitions, the number of sets, and the speed or slowness of the lifting, ... but adding weight seems obvious. So far, with my interval workouts on the elliptical and the recumbent bike, I have increased the resistance only. A rather usual routine for me is a 30 second sprint and a 90 second recovery repeated about 8 times. FINALLY, I have decreased my recovery time down to 60 second... Sat, 8 Nov 2008 22:22:02 EST Hi! New to the team and HIIT! Hi everyone! I just recently have hit a plateau in my weight loss and have read articles about HIIT but hadn't tried it out. A couple weeks ago I started adding it into my workout a couple times a week and have definitely seen results! I also love how it keeps me from getting bored on the treadmill. So far, I have basically been warming up for about 5 minutes at 4.0 mph then increasing my speed anywhere from 7.0-9.0 for 1 - 1:30 minutes, then back down to 4.0 for 1:30 - 2:00 (I change it a ... I've read it's not good to do more than 45 minutes of cardio the same day as strength training because you start to lose the muscle rather than more fat... but is it okay to do 30-40 minutes of HIIT the same day as strength or is that too much? Fri, 1 Aug 2008 11:50:44 EST A few questions about HIIT (newbie) I'm going to start HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) tomorrow... I'm new to this so I have a TON of questions for those who know a lot about HIIT.

1) When you do HIIT for your cardio, what's your routine like? How long do your HIIT sessions last? Do you warm up at the same intensity as your lower intensity interva... Thu, 31 Jul 2008 23:36:11 EST Hi! New to the team and sort of new to HIIT I'm a graduate student from Fayetteville, AR, and I recently started using HIIT in my workouts. I'm glad there's a SparkTeam for that, because I have so much to learn. Wed, 30 Jul 2008 16:29:11 EST Heart Rate Questions Okie so I got a nifty HR monitor watch. I'm sure it's not as accurate as one with a chest strap..but it's a lot better than nothing since I could never take an accurate reading with my fingertips in my neck.
I just get all confused. (I'm a non-blonde blonde.. no offense to any real blondes out there..)

Anyway I did my first workout with it today.

And my HR varied between intense and active rest at 163bpm and 142bpm.

I used the SParkpeople target heart rat... Wed, 30 Jul 2008 14:36:29 EST Jump Rope SparkVideo Question So tonight for my HIIT workout I did the 10 minute sparkpeople jump rope video.
Has anyone tried that?
I want to make sure it qualifies for HIIT.

Basically short warm up.
Then 30 second of jump rope, followed by 30 seconds of marching in place.
She varies the style of jumps and types of marching (steping side to side, or in a big "box" step, arms pumping etc to bring down heart rate gradually).

I find that I can barely make it through the whole 10 min... Mon, 28 Jul 2008 15:23:10 EST Considering HIIT...a question Hi Everyone,

I've been doing The Firm for about 1.5 years now, and I've seen some really great results from it. I'm in the home stretch as far as getting the excess fat off my body, but these last pounds are a struggle! My belly is the final frontier, and it's shrinking, but so SLOWLY.

So, I'm thinking I need to shake things up a bit, and maybe HIIT is the answer. I am Mani and I am new to this team and HIIT. I stumbled into HIIT and got curious. It does sound like a good idea theory wise but I haven't really understood how exactly one should do it.

I tried to do it today yet again. On the bike, my legs would grow too tired before I reached a decent enough heartbeat. On the elliptical, the maximum I could reach in 30 seconds was about 175bpm before my legs would give up. Is that good enough for HIIT? Or am I missing something big here? ... Tue, 8 Jul 2008 09:46:35 EST Stumbled onto HIIT and LOVE it! Hi all, I'm Susie! I did my first HIIT this morning, completely by accident, and absolutely LOVED it! I went to the gym thinking I'd start my first day of the "Couch to 5K" system; I even had a podcast made specifically for it on my mp3 player. I guess I'm in better shape than I thought I was because it was WAAAAY too slow. I'm still pretty heavy and jogging is very bad for the knees when you're fat, but running isn't nearly as bad, plus I need to improve my cardiovascular fitness.

... Sat, 5 Jul 2008 21:47:08 EST Anybody used a Personal Trainer? I workout at home only, and I have been at a plateau for such a long time and I'm wanting to challenge myself, so I'm thinking about signing up with a personal trainer for about 4 sessions.

I'm hoping to focus on strength training and see if I can bump off of this plateau.

So just wondering if anyone here has used a personal trainer for this reason and seen results, or any comments you have would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Teresa Fri, 20 Jun 2008 16:20:29 EST no idea .. how to approach this ... I ride a bicycle about 40 miles two times a week for 4 hours each time. I am getting back into my running routine also .. of 3 times a week, running for 30 - 45 minutes. Hi!

I'm new to the HIIT group. I really want to get this weight loss moving. I was VERY inspired after getting 2 new bikinis today and my BODY is not where it needs to be yet to wear them. I have been doing the Jillian Michael 30 Day Shed Phase 1 and 2 for the last 1.5 weeks now and I was wondering if her circuit training work outs would be considered HIIT? Sat, 29 Mar 2008 18:20:50 EST Hoping HIIT helps me break the plateau Hello,
I did a lot of reading on HIIT last night and decided today would be my first day doing it. I wasn't realizing it, but I was sort of doing a baby version already, but today I kicked it up a notch and it was difficult. I still did what you all probably consider a baby version, but I'm glad to be getting started! Thu, 20 Mar 2008 13:12:20 EST Hello, I'm new! Good morning everyone,

I am new to the team and new to the HIIT concept. I want to really challenge my body in order to break a plateau. So, I wanted to join a team that will challenge me and I think I found another one!

Steph Sun, 9 Mar 2008 10:43:34 EST HIIT or Circuit Training, or both? Today, I adapted a routine I saw in a magazine. I warmed up on the treadmill for 5 minutes, ran for 90 seconds, did two sets of weight exercises, and then ran 90 more seconds, and repeated this routine for 30 minutes before cooling down by walking on the treadmill for another 5 minutes, then stretching. My heart rate was up the whole time. I logged it as Circuit Training, but since I had the 90 second intervals of running approx every two minutes, does it count as HIIT also? Thanks! Thu, 6 Mar 2008 23:21:50 EST How much are you burning per workout? Hi I´m new!! I just learned about HIIT and did 2 HIIT workouts so far. Wednesday, I warmed up for 5 minutes and alternated 30 seconds maximum and 30 of moderate intensity for 15 minutes and then cool down for 5 minutes on my bike. My average heart rate for the whole workout was at 70% HRMax. But I only burned 130 calories. (I have a polar F11 HRM). How much are you guys burning per workout?
