The answer is simple: Muscle tissue, bone density, and strength all dwindle over the years. So, too, does muscle power. These changes open the door to accidents and injuries that can compromise your ability to lead an independent, active life. Strength training is the most effective way to slow and possibly reverse much of this decline.

Having s... Tue, 29 May 2012 15:32:23 EST The 5 reasons people exercise — what's yours? So I've read in numerous places that we don't really need to count calories, as long as we are counting our carb. I am keeping my carbs under 50g every day. However, what would happen if I ate, for example, 2200 calories a day, worked out, but every time keeping my carbs under 50g? Do calories really really not matter? Mon, 6 Feb 2012 10:10:54 EST Question About Alloitment of Carbs I know most low carb books stress the induction period and I just find that extremely difficult to do. I was wondering if all of you did the induction phase and what your average carb allowance is daily now. I have mine set between 60 grams and 200 grams. Normally I'd eat well over 300 grams so I feel this is a good leeway for me. But can the rest of you lose on that alloitment or do you feel I really need to cut it more? I really need some input here. Thanks Fri, 3 Feb 2012 14:23:27 EST New here I had tried Atkin's induction a couple years ago, but I missed fruit so much I abandoned low carb entirely to "the crazies" and just tried to do the low fat way for the next few years, unsuccessfully. I heard new research on intermittent low carb dieting that allowed for fruit, and other low carb approaches like Paleo, that allowed for more vegetables too. So . . . I've been doing low carb for a while now and lost about 18 lbs. I needed to change main teams to one that is open to trying out different low carb options and see which one is best, instead of treating one of them like a food bible. I am learning how to change my eating as a lifestyle for the long run and I need to be ... Mon, 19 Jan 2009 02:11:10 EST Hello from PA Hi, I'm Rainney. I have been on Weight Watchers and I lost nothing. I have tried counting calories, low fat diets and nothing. I recently started to watch my carbs and I took off 8 pounds in 8 days. I don't know what happened but then I was at a stand still for a little over a week. I stayed the same and then today I lost another pound. It seems to be the first time I actually lost weight. I will try to keep track of what I eat on SP and see if I can actually lose 30 to 50 pounds by December. Sat, 17 Jan 2009 20:04:12 EST Another new gal Hi everyone, I'm new to mostly everything on Sparks, being an old gal needing motivation to lose weight AND get fit! I've been on SP for several years, with mixed results. Before SP, I followed the Carb Addicts diet and lost lots of weight, but didn't feel it was really healthy for me. So I spent years trying the low cal, low fat route, but never got anywhere. Recently I've discovered the "Four Corners Diet" -- and it seems to fit me well and work well for me. The four corners are very low carb, low saturated fat, high fiber, high monosaturated fats. I lost 10 lbs the first month, but re... Sun, 4 Jan 2009 07:29:38 EST What Works For YOU??? I have been lurking in the corners for the past 2 weeks but finally something in me snapped and I have been watching my eating for the past 3 days or so. I am following the Carb Addict's Plan, as it had helped before to lose about 30 pounds (before I gave up for no good reason) approximately 7 yrs ago.

I was very happy to have found some of the low-carb spark teams and will be checking in from time to time.

Thanks all, Jen
Tue, 5 Feb 2008 23:09:46 EST New With Questions Hi, I'm Kathy. Well here I am back to low carbing,LOL! I have tried it several times and just couldn't stick to it so I am trying a new one this time. I did this same diet a few years back but had a hard time with it after a couple of weeks but this time I am starting differently so maybe it will be more lasting. I have a hard time with bad sugar withdrawal headaches at first. I am trying the Carb Addict's Plan with the ease in options. Here's hoping this works!
Amy Mon, 21 Jan 2008 18:32:20 EST New to this Team - Fit4Life414 Hello everyone! I am relatively new to sp and very new to this team. I have recently lost 43 pounds, gained 7 over the holiday and just lost 4 of them after joing sp. I am so excited about sp. Seems that most carbs are my favorite foods and my triggers so I have them but in monitored moderation. Looking forward to getting to know other low-carbers and learning some pointers from... Fri, 28 Dec 2007 19:31:52 EST Social Eating I find myself in full control of my food within my own home and I also manage most sit down restaurants when I control what I order. My last big hurdle to a lifetime of successful(healthy) weight management is social eating where food is presented to me and quantities are not limited (buffets, nibbles and snack platters, dinner in someone’s home).

I am currently looking for suggestions and ideas that can then form a list of short and long term goals relating to social eating. Tue, 30 Oct 2007 08:03:56 EST Challenge: 5 a day the LC way! They say that LC works ssooooooooo much better when you get all of your veggies in, but I am not always good at that. So I was thinking, how about a one week challenge to eat five servings of vegetables (especially the approved ones for those still on induction) every day while still staying in our carb ranges? Anyone in?
Sat, 27 Oct 2007 09:33:19 EST A tale of too many carbs. Last week I was on the road with the hubby for 5 days and didn't have the things I needed to eat low carb, so I had regular bread and rolls and even doughnuts, now, I know, after being back on low carb since Monday that I can't ever eat that many carbs again. I was lethargic and tired all the time, slept in the car more than I was awake and I think it was the carbs. Not tired today and baking and cleaning and feeling great, so beware of those carbs out there they can be dangerous to some of... I have been successful with low carb previously only to put the weight back on when I went back to eating like I normally do. I just restarted a weights routine at the Y and aquafit too, as I have been unable to lose any weight or inches beyond my first 2 week induction of low carbing, and it's been 4 months!
