Fri, 28 Feb 2014 09:28:03 EST Feb 2014 goals/re olutions Well, except for my weight loss I missed on my January goals. It is so hard to ride a bike in the snow and ice and hard to quilt when you work every day. So for Feb I will once again attempt to ride my bike 150 miles and get my friend's quilt back to her.

my Feb goals:
1) lose 3 pounds
2) ride my bike 150 miles
3) finish my friend's quilt and get it back to her.
Sun, 2 Feb 2014 15:51:17 EST Hello from Wyoming Hi I am 65 yrs old, married to a wonderful women, and retired. Here it is, the end of an old year and time to think about what we would like to accomplish in the new one. I have been challenged with some health issues these last 2 months and that has changed my expectations. I had my gall bladder removed in November and found out I have liver disease. I have had to drastically change my diet and exercise routines and was cautioned not to lose more than 2 pounds a week due to possible worsening of the liver condition, so weight loss will be slower tha... Mon, 30 Dec 2013 11:08:05 EST Nov 2013 Resoluti ns/goals Well, I did not do well with my Oct resolutions or goals. I did get my photo's sorted, but that is about all. Have to see a surgeon Friday about my gallbladder. Have stones and sludge and my GP has me on limited exercise to prevent rupture. So, for November I am modifying my goals:

1) Get photo albums ready for Christmas
2) Finish my 3 quilts for Christmas gifts
3) Once cleared by MD start riding my bike 4 days a week.
Sun, 3 Nov 2013 21:56:20 EST October 2013 resoluti ns/goals I must say I did do a bit better last month. I got the 6 quilts for the Trail Run pieced and quilted, and I have gotten back on the bike. Tracking the nutrition is still a bit sketchy, but I am doing better.

For October I am going to:
1) Track all my nutrition
2) Exercise 3 days a week
3) Organize my photo files for 2013
Wed, 2 Oct 2013 17:44:07 EST August 2013 goals/re olutions My how time flies, here it is August already. I didn't track my food like I wanted for July, but I did keep a log. For August I must start tracking better. The grands will be back in school soon so I can get back on the bike. Gotta get them to riding with me even if it is short ones. DD and I have been working on sorting boys toys/clothes, and cleaning out closets and storage houses getting ready for a yard sale. Gotta finish that, too.

Resolutions for August:
1) actually log ... Fri, 2 Aug 2013 11:18:29 EST July 2013 goals/re olutions Here it is, the middle of the year. I'm getting back on track, but still have a ways to go. For July I will:
1) be back on my proper nutrition
2) finish cleaning/organizing my sewing room
3) finish 2 UFOs

Thu, 4 Jul 2013 17:27:07 EST May 2013 goals and resolutions. Ok, I am still playing catch up. I was doing so well with my bike riding and diet, then the second blackberry winter hit with cold, rain, hail, and generally icky weather. May isn't starting off well, but I am determined to maintain my weight loss. I set a goal of 2 pounds per month, and I am down 9 so far this year, so that part is going well. DD#2 is coming home from college and will live with us while she does her internship. I have 7 weeks to clean closets and make room for her thing... Mon, 6 May 2013 23:06:36 EST April 2013 Goals/Re olutions Here it is again, the start of a new month. Hope everyone did well with March. Personally I still struggle with strength training. I have however done well with my weight loss and am keeping to my goal of 2 pounds a month.

For April my goal will be to continue to record my nutrition and ride my bike at least 4 days a week.
Thu, 4 Apr 2013 22:50:04 EST Mirrors? I can't help but feel blind when riding... I think I'd like to get a mirror. I am an Amazon junkie, and none of the mirrors with 4.5+ star reviews will work for my bike. What mirrors do y'all use (if you use one)? Tue, 19 Mar 2013 16:42:11 EST 2 hours on my bike Really pleased I did a 2 hour bike ride this morning. 56
Had a meal straight after ride and one an hour later. Thu, 28 Feb 2013 22:21:13 EST Feb 2013 resolulti ons/goals One month has passed and I hope everyone did well with their January resolutions. My nutrition wasn't perfect, but is much better.

For Feb I will begin my strength training. I will strength train 2 body areas, 3 days a week. Thu, 31 Jan 2013 22:44:12 EST MS 150 On March 4, 2009 I went into the woods to look for an individual who had just assaulted his wife. I lost my footing and ended up hitting my left knee on some branches covering the ground. My leg went instantly numb and was visibly distorted I learned later that I had broken my tibia. I was back to full duty almost a year later thanks to the doctors, physical therapist and my strong determination achieved from my time in the Marine Corps. In 2011 I began implementing cycling into my exercise p... Sat, 26 Jan 2013 23:23:37 EST New Year, New You Here we are again at the start of a New Year. Once again I will be starting our monthly resolution thread. Remember, it takes 21 days to form a habit. We will be working on one resolution a month instead of a bunch of big ones for the year.

For January I will be getting my nutrition back on track. Seems like I start with this one every year.

Lets get started, I'll be checking on you. Mon, 31 Dec 2012 23:11:28 EST Leadeership Hello everyone!

This is not an easy post to write. I have thought about this for several weeks. I have not been able to fulfill my duties towards this team for a while now, and it does not look like it is going to happen anytime soon. I really feel it is time to bring a new leader in. I am willing to stay the leader on paper, until such a time as someone else steps in, or as co leader if they wish. The "paper" part s because I don't want this team to dissolve. I wish the be... Sat, 29 Sep 2012 19:33:05 EST September 2012 Resoluti ns/goals Well, I have done very badly lately. I just don't seem to have my heart in it. But we have a trail ride next month, so I MUST get ready. I also have 5 more quilts to finish before Oct 20th, so I better get going. No time for eating. My goals for Sept:

Ride at least 4 miles every non-work day
Sew 2 hours every day.

I'm tired already.
Tue, 4 Sep 2012 22:04:35 EST August 2012 Goals and Resolutions Well, here it is August already. Wed, 1 Aug 2012 10:26:06 EST July 2012 Goals and Resolutions I must admit, I did really lousy for June. No excuses, just didn't do what I had wanted to. July is not starting well, either. My diverticulitis has flared up, meds are not working as well has they have in the past, and I'm just not myself yet. Perhaps next week will be cooler and I'll feel better.

For July I would love to ride 500 miles, but with temps hovering in the triple digits, that ain't gonna happen. So I will set a goal of strength training 4 days a week, that I can... How fast the year is flying by. I am sad to say, I haven't stuck strictly to my nutrition guidelines this month. I really must do better for November. The PT is going well with my knee and I get at least 45 minutes of strength and stretching twice a day. That is helping a bit. I'm also back on the spin bike for at least 15 minutes twice a day. Not as much as I'm used to, but getting better every day.

For my November Resolution/goal, I must do bet... Wed, 31 Aug 2011 23:52:40 EST Join the club! :) Hi all.

I started cycling again in January 2011 with the intention of continuing for life. Yeah, I know, I'll be very tired :) At 18.5 stone (259lb; 117.5kg) I decided enough was enough and I recalled the excitement I used to get racing as a youngster, the feeling of fitness, invincibility, strength, speed! Not that I was that good, lol!

I had times when I returned to cycling but they were short lived and weren't to last.

So, January, 259lb. What to do?
... Mon, 15 Aug 2011 03:45:02 EST New to the team (and to riding) Hi, all! I too my new bike out for its inaugural ride last night and I'm looking forward to another short ride today. Yes, my bike is new (a 2011 Trek 3700 series), but I'm also pretty new to riding. I had a Specialized 10 or so years ago, but I didn't ride it much at all, I was never comfortable on it. My husband has always loved biking, and we're hoping to tackle at least part of the Cowboy Trail here in Nebraska at some point in 2012. The trail is part of the Rails to Trails thing, and the... Sat, 6 Aug 2011 09:16:11 EST 2011 August Resolutions Well, I must admit. I started my July resolutions and did so very well for 2 weeks, then just sort of slipped away. For August I MUST start doing better with my nutrition. That is my goal, again. Sun, 31 Jul 2011 20:59:11 EST I'm alive !!! We are in Panama City Beach with the grands. There is no WiFi in the room or on our balcony, so I have to come to the bar to get service (not a great place to hang out with a 7 and 4 year old). Sorry I haven't been around, but we will be heading home tomorrow and I'll get pictures posted Sunday. Fri, 29 Jul 2011 15:26:55 EST 2011 July Resolutions Well, here it is already, the middle of the year. My how time is flying by. It has been almost unbearably hot and I am going to move my exercise inside for a while. My resolutions for July are to stay in the lower range of my calories and work on my strength training. I am going to make a strong attempt to ride 50 miles a week, but with temps above 100 most days, that will be hard for me.

OK everyone, what are yours? Fri, 1 Jul 2011 19:57:29 EST Goals for the Week Ride my bike to work 4 days this week.
Have a long ride on one day of the weekend. Sun, 19 Jun 2011 12:50:34 EST Hello from the Highlands of Scotland HI
I am Millie-milou and I have redescovered cycling.

I got a new bike (free from the gym) a couple of years back and cycled quite a bit but, living in a horrible city at the time, I didn't really enjoy it. The local kids threw stones if you cycled up the cycle ways or the canal towpaths.

We moved to Scotland in February and we have been cycling for about a month now, when weather permits. We have just had a week of rain and high winds so we stayed in. The temp dro... Sun, 5 Jun 2011 05:41:36 EST 2011 June Resolutions Here it is, June already. Where does the time go? I did well with May and worked, rode, or walked outside every day. But now it is getting very hot and dry and I need something different. DH has challenged DD and me to a 5k run, so by the end of June I want to be able to do it. My resolution for June is to train every day and run a 5k. Tue, 31 May 2011 22:09:34 EST 2011 May Resolutions Here it is the middle of the month and I am just getting around to the resolutions. That's what I get for leaving town the first week of the month. Anyway, hope everyone had a successful April and you are all ready to start your summer, cause it is here.

For May I will get outside and so something every day. I would prefer to ride my bike, but my yard needs lots of work, so this is a great time to work on that.

Time to get our summers started! Fri, 13 May 2011 09:29:49 EST 2011 April Resolutions Here we are at the start of another month. I must admit I did reaaaalllly bad with my March resolutions. I just felt I had to join a cycling team today after my husband finally talked me into off road cycling. It was GREAT! I'm working to get back into the routine of biking so encouragement will be a plus. I was riding 22 miles twice a week before I gave it up. Hopefully I get there and then some! Sun, 20 Mar 2011 22:37:59 EST I want to ride my bicycle... Please visit my page and blog for details. As in I'm prone to not doing this!

Consistency--doing something in a regular consistent manner. and no, pigging out on Cheetos during a stress out is not the kind we want! (My bad)

So, here are the rules. Pick three things that you want to accomplish at least once a week. I hope one if them is riding--we are a bike team, after all! So, that is a potential of 9 points a week. Get all 9, and I will throw in an extra to make it an even 1... I have been slack about that lately and it really is important.

Anyone else care to share your resolutions?

Fri, 31 Dec 2010 22:57:44 EST Good by 2010, Hello 2011 and long range goals I have spent some time going over my year, good and bad. And I must say, God has been good. He has helped me through the bad times and turned them around. Life is good.

For 2011 I have set some personal long range goals:

1. Get my house re-organized (DD has moved things back in) and clear out the last of MIL's things

2. Lose the weight I have gained since MIL got ill and finally reach my goal

3. Bike 200 miles per month

4. Walk/hi... Fri, 31 Dec 2010 10:10:58 EST YEAR END CHALLENGE OK Riders! From now until 1-1-11, we have a challenge. Borrowing freely from another team, we have the Ho HO Ho, No No No challenge. The winner will receive a Spark Goody from me, and a glass of water raised in his/her honor. You get 1 point for every no--as in things where you made a healthy choice not to go off track, and a point for each Ho--like going to the gym, or taking a ride or any other physical activity. For example, I did not go to Hardees for breakfast today--knowing that ea... Thu, 16 Dec 2010 22:38:57 EST Goals for 2011 It's time to check our bikes for mud and grit build up, clean up the drive trains and drool over new toys--computers, HRMs, even bar tape! But the ultimate reason for having the toys is to ride more. So, what are your riding goals for next year? I'll lead off:

OVER ALL: 2011 miles by the end of the season--around here, that's pretty much November, depending on just where Day Light Savings Time ends.

BIG RIDE OF THE YEAR: CLarksville Century--it's the flattest one ar... Wed, 15 Dec 2010 22:01:18 EST New Co Leader Hello all Riders!

This was not the way I planned to get myself back in motion, but I really don't want this team to go away, so....I offered to be the Ride Leader, as it were. We are still hoping that our old Leader will be back, but for right now, at least, it looks like I get to pass out the Cue Sheets.

So, what would each of you like from this team? Team Goals? A virtual Ride to ______? Games? Challenges? Tips on riding? And it would be great if I knew what lev... When I was much younger, I rode my bike countless miles. Commuting 22 miles each way, and riding 60 to 120 miles on each day off. It was great for fitness until I was hit by a car. I walked away without a scratch, but lost the nerve to ride in traffic. Two years ago, I weighed 296. I decided to risk death in traffic rather than guaranteed death from heart disease. I have since ridden over 3500 miles. I lost 76 pounds, but gained 20 back after my son crashed into me on a ride. I am working my ... Wed, 18 Aug 2010 22:18:43 EST no team goals? Mon, 16 Aug 2010 14:17:49 EST Bodybugg I'm just wondering if anyone uses a bodybugg while cycling and if so, how is it working? Before I invest in a bodybugg I would like to hear some feed back.
Thanks 332 Tue, 20 Jul 2010 21:18:38 EST Anyone a beginner at this like me? I just got started with a bike. Nothing fancy, and I don't know if I'm in the right team. Everyone here seems to be going 20 miles or more.
I know I can't do that. Now maybe if I had a ten speed? I don't even know how to work a ten speed! Anyone just get out there to have fun with a bike? 198
New to the team as of today, and my name is Linda.
Thanks. Happy biking!! I have been a cyclist my whole life. Lately, though, I have only really used my bike to commute and run errands. I am going to be doing a 75km bike tour in August for the MS Society of Canada and frankly, I have no idea the best way to start out training. I currently commute to and from work which is a hilly route, but only about 8km each way. So... what have you had success with in terms of ... Fri, 7 May 2010 13:49:21 EST Eating and cycling Hello all,

I introduced myself possibly in the wrong place (in the general discussion forum) but I have a question and wonder if anyone else is struggling with a similar issue.

I ride my bike pretty much everywhere in the summer and have recently recommitted to commuting to work by bike all summer. I prefer to eat my breakfast at work as otherwise I tend to feel sick as I am by no means a leisurely cyclist. The problem is, I am then riding in to work (a hilly 25-35 minu... Mon, 12 Apr 2010 09:11:01 EST Biking to errands Hey all! New to SP here. I am finding ways to live fit. I started biking to do most all of my errands last week! It feels GREAT and I'm working hard to make it my new lifestyle. I should have been doing this years ago! I put skinny tires on my Trek bike and added two bike panniers to carry groceries. I got a second u-lock to use with my cable lock to protect my transportation. In leave rubberbands (for my right pant leg) and reusable chico bags for groceries in the panniers. It's grea... Sun, 21 Mar 2010 21:54:46 EST Hello from San Francisco Hi from the Beautiful San Francisco Bay Area a roadies paradise. It's the end of the rainy season here and people are getting back on the road on the good days. I am riding with a club and friends trying to get my road legs back. Looking forward to challenging myself on some hills and training for a century along the California coast in August. G'day everyone. Sat, 13 Feb 2010 15:14:19 EST hello from downunder Hi, my name is Crispian, you can call me Crispy.
I love cycling, I have been racing since I was 11 and currently ride 300km per week. I also have a 43 hr/wk job and wife and 2 yr old boy/girl twins to support. It gives me little time but I am happy.
We moved to Australia in October 2008 after selling our house and bakery in NZ. I now work for a large bicycle retailer on the Sunshine Coast of sunny Queensland, Australia. We love it here!
My wife is a popular member on this site ... Fri, 12 Feb 2010 01:13:07 EST 2010 Goals It's that time of year again. For once I am not dreading it. I am blatantly stealing this idea--2010 miles in 2010! As the riding season here is roughly 10 months for me, that is 200 miles for those 10 months, which of course I will have to work up to, so for the later part, it will be well over 200. I can do this. It's not going to be easy, but I can--and will--do this! I'm in middle TN Tue, 24 Nov 2009 23:46:04 EST Hello from Stamford, CT Hello,

Just joined this team today, 10/29. I am 122.6 pounds today and aim to lose 5 pounds or so by Thanksgiving and then maintain it thru X'mas and New year holidays. Would like to reach 115 pounds by Spring 2010.

I am hopeful that this SparkTeam can help me to achieve my goal.

SM Thu, 29 Oct 2009 16:30:45 EST Completed First Century I finished my first century on Sunday. It was the Horse Farm Hundred in Gainesville, FL. There were rolling hills and lots of horse farms. Very beautiful! On Saturday we rode 55 mile. Great weekend for riding!

One other note, living in southern Georgia where it is flat, I didn't know that my front shifter was broken until I tried to use it on Saturday. So, I did both rides with only the big front ring. My legs are sore but not intolerably. Mon, 26 Oct 2009 06:28:47 EST New to Team I too am new to sparkpeople and this team. I'm an avid road cyclist. I lost 60 lb last year. Gained 7 lb over the last two months (schedule changed). I'm wanting to take off 7 lb off AGAIN and lost another 30 lb.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. Wed, 21 Oct 2009 13:03:43 EST Winter cycling strategies and ideas Hello. Today, I placed my bike inside the door in the front hall, because yesterday I could not motivate myself to get on the thing and go. Today, this morning, the same thing. I woke my wife at ten. We had coffee. I told her I was having difficulty getting going. Finally, around eleven, I went.

Once I begin, I love cycling. However, I have difficulty getting myself to go. I don't know if it is because it is getting darker sooner and lighter later, or if, this weekend, it was beca... Sun, 27 Sep 2009 14:54:58 EST Hello, all. Just checking in. I have been cycling to lose weight/get fit since April of 2009, about a year and a month after giving up cigarettes. I was up to 12 stone (168lbs.). I am down to just below 11 stone, perhaps 10 stone, nine or ten pounds weight. I want to get down to 9 and a half stone (135lbs.-ish), but I want to feel good at that weight. Sun, 27 Sep 2009 12:49:43 EST I'm New Hi! I'm in TN, near Nashville. I can be singled out from as far as you can see my bike, because I have the only Terry around. It's an older style--the 700 back wheel and the 24" front wheel. I'm no racer, mostly I ride solo, and I am training for my first century this fall. Wed, 20 May 2009 00:34:26 EST New to Team Just happened to come across this team and decided I would join in. My name is Bryan and I have been on Sparkpeople for a couple months but just really starting to ramp up my new nutritional and fitness routine. Was part of Sparkpeople a few years back and went from 220 to 166 and completed my first Sprint Tri.

I am now beginning my training to ride 184.5 miles from Cumberland, MD to Washington, DC in early July over a four day period. Would like to drop about 13 pounds prior to... Sat, 9 May 2009 08:39:50 EST Core strength training Hi, everyone. I'm getting serious about core strength training to improve my riding. Does anyone have suggestions for how often per week I should train my core, and how many exercises (I use the ones offered by SparkPeople) in one session? Thanks! Thu, 19 Feb 2009 00:50:04 EST Goals for 2009 I want to get on the road in February, a tough sell here in Minnesota, and then be riding at least 15 days in March, and actually do my first century by the end of April.....Oh what goals! Wed, 18 Feb 2009 21:15:20 EST Triathlete and Cyclist in Dallas, TX Thought I'd join this board for fun. I started cycling when I decided to do my first triathlon 3 years ago. I love it! It's the one discipline of the 3 that my husband enjoys doing with me, especially on those long training rides, he comes along for the ride and it keeps me going. I'm excited to learn from all of you and join in on discussions. The longest ride we've done is a 65 miler here in Texas back in May of 2008, BRUTAL! It was quite warm that day. We hated each other by mile 50... Wed, 18 Feb 2009 14:18:47 EST Spring Is Coming... Are you ready? Well, to be honest, I thought this team totally died out, and spark wasn't sending my emails, so I am sorry I haven't been around!

Spring is coming soon, just a few short months away. Anyone getting ready and gearing up to get out there and start pedaling away?

I've moved to the mountains, so riding has been slower for me while I learn to adjust to all the bigger hills and lower oxygen. So, didn't get many miles in this past fall. Right now it's to icy to ride, and I unf... Wed, 4 Feb 2009 21:00:48 EST Hi, I'm new here. Hi, I'm new here. Sun, 18 Jan 2009 22:18:36 EST How are you staying motivated in the winter? I do great when I can bike outside, two hours isn't a problem. But inside, I look at the bike and can't make myself get on it.

What do you do to motivate yourself? Sun, 11 Jan 2009 10:17:43 EST Ideal Weight Loss Formula Hi Everyone

I have been a Sparkie for some time but only recently started taking it seriously. I wanted to share something I have found that really seems to be working for me in terms of weight loss.

I cycle about 36km a day (sorry I from Australia so I have no idea what that is in miles) but was still gaining weight. I was just eating too much!

I have now found what I believe is the optimal formula for easy weight loss. It is the 1000-2000-1 rule. Burn 1000... Tue, 14 Oct 2008 13:52:19 EST 2 Cycling Tales of Woe Somehow, I managed not only to mess up 1 bike this weekend, but 2 bikes.

I took my road bike out on a beautiful Saturday morning. All was going well for several miles. On a side street 2 blocks from my house, someone left a 2" high patio block on the road. I didn't see it until it was too late. I managed to keep the bike upright, but I bent the front rim. Needless to say, I had to limp the bike home with a rather unpleasant thumping sound emanating from the front wheel.
... Sun, 12 Oct 2008 19:36:41 EST Seagull Century Hi, everyone. Is anyone riding in the Seagull Century on October 4 in Salisbury, MD? I'm riding with a group of 3 other women--it's our first Century. I've fallen in love with cycling since I've been here. I used to love it when I lived in Toronto but it was just too dangerous to ride on the roads, but here there are bike paths all through the city and countryside. We don't have a car so my bike is my main method of transportation, and I live 7km (4mile) from work so it's a nice commute every day. I like to explore the countryside on the weekends, and I've even started ta... Sun, 27 Jul 2008 06:39:46 EST Post Your Weekly WI Here! I absolutely love my Raleigh and wish I could ride constantly. I feel like a kid with my pony tail going out straight behind me, even though I'm not a kid and don't have the pony tail anymore. I've had health issues that have kept me off the bike, but I'm back now. I ride at least 5 miles a day and try for a good ride on the weekend. I've also started doing errands on the bike ever since gas started going through the roof. Tue, 8 Jul 2008 23:54:56 EST The Bike Shop Hey all! I'm new to Freedom Riders. Tue, 15 Apr 2008 11:05:37 EST New to theTeam HI my name is Kevin and I live in Central Ohio. I ride two different Bikes, I absolutely love shredding my mountain across a narrow dirt trail dodging trees. But I also have a Sun EZ recumbent that I ride on the roads. I just recently moved from Columbus to East Liberty. I have noticed one thing, city riding is easier. These hills around my house are brutal. Remember getting there is not as much fun as the ride! Tue, 8 Apr 2008 12:42:50 EST Easing Into Riding Season I'm easing into the season this year. Even though I've been warming up and cooling off, I'm feeling the pain. That's what 5 months off the saddle gets me. Mon, 7 Apr 2008 20:05:55 EST hello Just joined and I am trying out cycling. Working out a workout plan is not fun but I do enjoy bike riding so here I am. Wish me luck. Fri, 4 Apr 2008 00:37:17 EST The first is in the book It's done. But, I wondered if my planned ride would happen today as I watched the snow come down last night. I have been working out and taking it easy for about a month now. Previously when I started with more enthusiasm I always seem to do something to where I cannot work out again for a couple of weeks! Mon, 28 Jan 2008 21:14:04 EST New member Hi! I would like to introduce myself. I am new to Sparkpeople, but enjoying it so far. I lost quite a lot of weight a few years ago, but found myself putting some of it back on this year and having trouble losing it again, so I thought maybe Sparkpeople could help.

I started biking last summer and even entered a few local races. My big event of the summer was a relay race that I did with my husband that goes over a mountain range in Alaska. He did the hilliest part, thankfully... Sat, 29 Dec 2007 15:22:53 EST I'm Mark Hi, I'm Mark.

I've been riding recreationally as long as I can remember. This year, I began racing. Keep in mind that at my first race, I was more than 60 lbs overweight and had no clue what I was doing. It was ugly. A whole lotta fun, but ugly. Racing has added a sense of urgency and importance to training that has me chomping at the bit to either get to the gym or out on the bike every day and to eat better. Hopefully next year the 11 year olds won't be passing me 2 minutes into ... Mon, 17 Dec 2007 02:37:40 EST Rails to Trails Has anyone ever tried any Rail Trails? Essentially, they are abandoned railroad beds that were converted to bicycle/walking/running trails. The big advantage to these is that they are by design by the original railroads, straight, level trails that extend for several miles. They're perfect for a casual ride and work well with road bikes.

Here is a link to a directory of trails around the country:
Fri, 2 Nov 2007 14:37:11 EST Introduction Hi Everyone,

My name's Kim and I'm pretty new to cycling. I just got a Trek Navigator 3.0 a couple of months ago after not being on a bike for more than 20 years.... and I LOVE it!!! In fact, I love it so much, I find myself wanting to ride more than run. :-)

I look foward to learning how to maximize workout effects on my bike - but, am worried now that it's getting cooler here in SD that my riding days are limited. Although I did just buy a pair of cycling pants that... Mon, 29 Oct 2007 11:36:50 EST Question for all the women only I have a problem on my longer rides. My groin area really kills me during my rides. Is there any special seat I need to get to make this better? Mon, 8 Oct 2007 13:31:42 EST First Aid Kit Something to consider, even for a short ride, is a small first aid kit just in case you wipe out on gravel (Road Rash, need I say more?), or any other injuries to get you by until you can get medical help.

For instance, at the very least you should carry:
1. Gauze
2. Antiseptic liquid
3. Bandages

I welcome any additions to this list, or if anyone knows of a good portable kit just for cyclists, even better. Mon, 8 Oct 2007 09:54:37 EST Wayne here I usually ride 5 miles around town, and 12-15 on trails. I still prefer the classic road bike over a mountain bike. Wed, 3 Oct 2007 00:32:45 EST Hello Everyone! My name is Beth I enjoy riding as long as there is no snow on the trails so I go all year. This week someone was cutting poison ivy and it was airborn when I was riding. 213 Fri, 20 Jul 2007 15:23:07 EST Where do you ride? Hi, all, I'm Rick in Indianapolis. Just thought I'd take a moment and share a few of my favorite places to ride around here....

Indianapolis has a greenway system that is second to none, IMHO. I've ridden greenways in many different states, and this is one of the best...

About 60 miles north of Indy is Muncie, and I often ride the Cardinal Greenway there.

In Columbus, Indiana, where I s... Mon, 16 Jul 2007 13:21:50 EST Site that lists nationwide Charity rides???? Hi, all! I used to have a site in my bookmarks that was a nationwide directory of Fundraising and Charity Bike Rides, but now I can't find it.

Does anyone know what that site might be?

Rick Mon, 16 Jul 2007 07:46:28 EST Chit Chat, a place to sit back and just talk. Thought I'd make us a place to just sit back and talk. Can be about cycling, or struggles, triumphs, or just idle chit chat. So, have a seat, and talk it up. Thu, 21 Jun 2007 15:36:10 EST Hello! I am new to SP as of TODAY, and I am excited to see groups for cycling on here. I am semi new to cycling, I used to race mtn bike up until I got thyroid cancer. Got back into riding this year, but decided switching to road riding. I started early May, purchased a road bike (Trek 1000) and am loving every minute of it. I did my first "organzed ride" 50K in May, I am currently training for a 50 MILE ride July 8. My Bike has 222 miles on it, since I got it about 4 weeks ago. My goals for now are... Thu, 14 Jun 2007 13:25:26 EST Hi-I'm new I was specifically looking for a cycling group today and it took a while but I found it. This is the first topic I have started so am not sure if I am starting it in the correct area. I am 33 yrs old and live in MI. I ride my bike outside everyday I can and inside in the winter on a stationary. I do 14 miles/day during the week and 26 miles on the weekends. Am hoping to get up to 52 mile rides on the weekends but time is a constraint. Mon, 7 May 2007 16:47:34 EST Goals for 2007 I am going to try to average 50 miles a week on my road bike, starting immediately. I am also going to do at least 2 Spin classes a week. I will post my activity here so that other members can encourage me (or kick my butt if needed) Anybody else up to some goal setting? So, am working on goal #2. Preparing for an event in June.

I ride with my family, it's a group event, lol. My little one rides on my bike in her seat.
