Tue, 7 Mar 2017 12:03:38 EST Question on suggested calories http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=7&imparent=41120336 Me and my wife have started working together to lose weight and be healthy.
I am curious on the amount of calories we should be having. For me this site suggests 1850-2230 calories a day. Several other calculators online give me about the same range.

To me though, that sounds like a high amount in order to lose weight. I was always thinking I would need to consume more like 1500 or less per day.

Any thoughts? At first, I aimed for 1600 cal a day and I just felt muddle headed and sick and didn't want to drink water. It was like that for 3 weeks and I lost 6 pounds and then regained 3 pounds. Today, I had a (what I calculated to be) 1800 cal intake and I feel fine. But I'm reading how people are able to keep their calories to 1200-1600 a day. I'd really love some insight as to whether I'm on the right track and should maintain the 1800/day or if there is a way to reduce my calories... Thu, 5 Jan 2017 18:21:22 EST Help! How do I know my correct calorie range? http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=7&imparent=40669186 I have a question and I'm hoping some of you can help me with it. I feel like the harder I try, the more I actually gain weight rather than loosing it. I've been great today, had a filling but low calorie breakfast, carrots for a snack, a protein shake and grilled chicken for lunch. Right now my log says that I've had 700 calories (I splurged and had a latte this morning after getting the kids to school - it was one of those mornings). Normally at the start of the day my calorie range is 1,20... Wed, 4 Jan 2017 11:35:41 EST Snack suggestions? http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=7&imparent=40659146 Hi all! I have some very specific problems that make it a challenge for me to figure out healthy snacks. Here's my situation:

-I live in semi-rural Kenya, so I drive into Nairobi once a week and can do my shopping then; Any snacks I buy would need to stay good for the week, or be eaten before they go bad

-I'm working at a children's home/school who take care of my room and board, and the meals they are able to provide aren't terribly great, nutrition- or taste-wise. ... Tue, 3 Jan 2017 20:38:31 EST Diabetes and carb/sugar counting http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=7&imparent=40653337 I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and during my session with a nutritional counselor, she advised me to watch my carb and sugar intake (and fiber, of course). My friend at work, who was also recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and was also told that one of her kidneys may be failing, was told to only count sugar (according to her). I'm having a hard time remembering my carb/sugar/fiber guidelines (learning and memory problems due to past issues) and would much rather only focu... Tue, 3 Jan 2017 17:01:19 EST Picky Eaters http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=7&imparent=40647467 So my husband has decided to 'diet' with me (not that he needs to, but it'll be easier/cheaper for us to eat the same healthy foods). Our problem: He's so picky! The veggies he likes are corn, potatoes, tomatoes, onion, peppers, and a few others, and salad. But I eat a lot of frozen veggies and I don't know what to get him. Does anyone else have this problem? or any ideas? I don't mind eating salad, but it's hard for me to eat it without dressing and I'm trying to lose weight fast. Mon, 2 Jan 2017 22:56:12 EST Is there a gluten-free menu option? http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=7&imparent=40647425 I saw another post about this but it was kind of old so I'm asking again. Is there a gluten-free option on the nutrition tracker? Am I missing it, or does it just not exist? I can make my own items to replace the ones in the meal plans, but it would be nice to have SP meal plans be gluten-free friendly. I don't have celiac disease, but I am sensitive and if I eat bread, I'll throw up. I noticed there is a vegan / vegetarian meal plan for people who choose to eat that way, but none for GF, whi... Mon, 2 Jan 2017 10:58:36 EST Having trouble drinking enough water http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=7&imparent=40641353 I used to be a really heavy soda drinker (luckily I've been able to scale it down to about 1 or 2 diet sodas per week), and I think because of this for me drinking water tastes really bland. Are there any tips for making drinking enough water each day easier? Sat, 31 Dec 2016 15:56:35 EST How to track hodge-podge homemade foods? http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=7&imparent=40629699 I make a lot of homemade stuff, sometimes out of whatever is in the fridge, like homemade soups and stews from leftovers or small amounts of this and that. I don't have a scale right now, so I have been trying to just track every ingredient by volume, add them all together, give them a name and then divide it up into cups, etc. for tracking, but that's a PITA, to be quite honest. I also sometimes "amend" homemade stuff, like if I have chicken stew leftover and I'm sick of it, I will add veggi... Sat, 31 Dec 2016 15:49:54 EST
