Wed, 2 Mar 2016 21:37:30 EST When do muscles break down? http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=6&imparent=38378869 I have been told and read that there comes a point when some exercises actually cause muscle breakdown instead of building. Is this true and when does that happen? I have been going to the gym 5 x a week and lifting weights, but always follow with about 30-40 minutes of intense cardio. Is that bad? I am 59 years old and have lost about 70 lbs. and seem to be at a plateau. Wed, 2 Mar 2016 18:58:14 EST Anybody Rollerskate or Inline Skate? http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=6&imparent=38377489 I used to skate a lot as a teenager, and am looking forward to getting back to it just as soon as this nasty cold goes away. I found some paved trails close to public transportation and really want to try them out as soon as I can. Wed, 2 Mar 2016 15:50:46 EST Becoming a Fitness Instructor! http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=6&imparent=38376178 I have to tell the world that I signed up for a Body Pump instructor initial training today! I've been thinking about it alot because I really enjoy the classes and I finally did it. It's going to be very challenging and def not easy but I never thought I would do this. Body Pump is the first fitness class I went to at my local YMCA in high school. It gave me the confidence to feel strong and finally go into the "scary/intimidating" weight room. I agonized over it for a few weeks but now that... Increasing Speed? http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=6&imparent=38373240 Hi All. <BR> <BR> I am ready to start working to increase my running pace. I am hoping to beat my husband for the first time in the 5k we do annually next month :). I have been reading about interval training as a good way to do this and was thinking an app telling me when to increase/decrease would be helpful to me. Anyone have an app they love? Or, is there something you have done that has helped you increase your speed? I would love any tips you might have. <BR> <BR> Thanks as alw... What kind of yoga exercises are good for me Tue, 1 Mar 2016 17:40:41 EST Low heart rate during exercise http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=6&imparent=38364458 I have traditionally had a difficult time getting my heart rate into "the target zone" even tho I'm easily 100 pounds overweight. I can be working hard, sweating, breathing hard and still my heart rate will barely get into the lower range. At 52 years old, my math tells me my heart rate should be somewhere between 84-126. For example, this morning I stopped during my stationary bike workout when I had been cycling with resistance for about 20 minutes (dripping sweat and breathing hard), and m... Or if I have to wait until after I see him. Kinda diff not doing 1-3 miles walking. Feel a little lazy, but know I have to be patient, which I am not. Mon, 29 Feb 2016 16:52:18 EST Tracking steps - MapMyRun vs. pedometer http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=6&imparent=38355657 Does anyone know how reliable MapMyRun's step estimate is? I am assuming it is just an estimate, because I don't wear an actual pedometer or fitbit or whatever. It says I did 18,717 steps yesterday. I don't know whether that is reasonably accurate or not (I did a total of just under 8 miles of running/walking/hiking). I am unable to walk more than 100 steps without the use of a cane or walker. With the aid of a cane I can make it about 150, with a walker about 300-400; depending on my pain levels.
