TOTAL LOSS: 1 lb

From July 3 (which was really when I started making changes), I lost 2 lbs. That's 1/4 lb per week, which is just slightly less than my normal 1/3 per week. I am pleased with this, especially considering that I normally gain when I increase exercise (which I did twice this challenge). I've gained considerable (to me) strength and stamina during this time period, and I am SUPER excited about that! It translates to real change in my life.

I am increasing the amount of strength training again this week, so hopefully that won't mean a gain for the end of the challenge. Either way, I would rather have a short term gain (see previously linked article) that leads to a long term decrease in body fat percentage, so....onward! :)

Still on track with 1/3 lb a week from July 3.
It is strange that I didn't gain after restarting strength training. I think this is the first time in all the years I've been working out that I haven't gained (temporarily) by increasing exercise. Maybe it's a sign I wasn't working out hard enough. LOL Perhaps it will hit next week.

I am re-starting strength training this week, so I expect a *temporary* gain for the next 1-3 weeks, but it's always worth it in the long run. Hi guys! I feel awful that I missed the start of this challenge. I just totally recommitted myself yesterday and need to lose at least 20 lbs by November. This would be a great help to me, but since I missed the start, can I at least post and hang out as a floater? I've decided I need to spend more time on sp and less time playing games on my phone. Some support would be great.

Down 3 this week. Did an awesome new work out at my gym last night...one of our instructors got certified in the Insanity work out and her first class was last night. It was a KILLER!!!!! I puked in my mouth 1/2 way through.....will be doing this class every week now :)

A New Weight Loss Challenge Team. Weigh ins are on Thursdays only until Aug 28th


If you would like to come check us out, post here. We will send you an invite.

We do weight loss challenges. We keep track of weights. We also post a status report every week.

We try to keep a clean house by not creating more TOPICS than we need.
We are not competing with other Teams unless there is a Team Challenge with in the Sensibly Take Off Pounds Team itself.

We are a Private Team, so we should be a small group. If You joined Spark People to lose weight, and are seriously seeking your numbers to go down on the scale. This is the Team for you.

Ma - Thanks for the well wishes. I walk, but I train for it all the same. (Walking is a sport in the Olympics, after all. :D ) I had surgery a number of years ago, and am working on getting back to my previous speed. It appears that it may take much longer than I thought, but I will persevere. :)

I just want everyone to know that the new team is underway, but for those that don't care to be part of the new team I still plan on keeping the community challenge thread going, so please continue to weigh in on Thursdays. I will post stats on both threads.

We are having a seriously good week here, but it is next week I am concerned about. Please stay focused on whatever it was you did this week.

What a nice surprise to check in with this challenge and see so many wonderful losses.
Onederland for some, huge losses for others, small losses for others and the odd small blip which could have been worse if you had really given up, so it looks like this is going to be a very successful challenge. Thank you Ma for once again leading a great group, and YOU are going to get to onederland yourself during this period. Have no idea how I am doing, no sense at all when my body is not moving, but I am watching what I am eating. emoticon

This +1.0 seems a little odd, but I will chalk it up to increased exercise, which always makes me gain temporarily. No matter the reason for the gain, I am too excited about walking the 5K tomorrow to feel gloomy!

Marijo: emoticon on reaching ONEDERLAND. I am so jealous. But it is motivation and inspiration for me to work harder this month. I will get there.

Carol; U did well. It must be all those SQUATS....oooofta!! You are a very caring, loving, giving person. I would want you for my caregiver. People are lucky to have you.

We are doing really really well so far this week. I am so excited for everyone. We will do very well this challenge, if everyone stays enthused and FOCUSED.

I need to get some exercise in. We had thunder/lightening earlier. but the sun is out now. I know Oliver really would like to go for a bike ride, so we will see. I would like to get some walking in too.

Whats everyone doing for the 4th????

My daughter and I are doing a 2 hour Zumba black light party at 10...then a few neighbors get together for put luck , birthday cake for one f the kids on the street then fireworks show (the big show at the Bush Presidential Library) at the end of the cul-de -sac with some sparklers, tanks, and smoke bombs for the kid s:)

I got my 50 squats done plus the one mile watp dvd workout. After the day I had I needed the movement. I spent the whole day in the er with my morning client. For those that don't me, I am an in-home caregiver. It was touch and go for a while this morning. Very scary and intense morning and the day was very long. But I am not to going put off my exercise anymore.

I just sent out a Spark mail to all. It seems Sparkarino isn't accepting mail at this time so she misses out. It was the final Roster for the summer challenge. The WI reminder for tomorrow. An a thought of mine, that a feed back would be very appreciative.

I was going to go on a long bike ride, but I am still sitting on my tush. I can't seem to get movin today.

I found some curtains at Big Lots quite reasonable for my dining room. I would of like to had them shorter. I will see what they look like when I get them hung. I might have the lady who sews shorten them, if they don't look right.

Hopefully we will all get at least one more work out in b4 WI tomorrow. MA

Yesssssssss! The good news about today.. it's my thursday emoticon tomorrow is "friday" and a 3 day weekend coming up.. yay! yay! yay! I got in two 15 min walks yesterday on my breaks and a 30 min jog last night... nothin else, don't wanna push it too much by doin ST two day in a row quite yet. Made a chicken stirfry for dinner last night.. cept i jus threw a bit of sweet potato in instead of putting it over rice. It was delicious! Wish i had made enough to have leftovers. lol

Awww.. sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well Carol , hope you feel better soon!!!! Good job on doing some strength stuff anyway.. that’s awesome. Get lots of rest!

Good Evening All,

Well it was a hot day here in Oregon. It is still in the 80's..I don't mind it.

I did some strength training today. I am in a 31 day squat challenge with some friends on fb. Going to give what I can to it.

I have been sick for two days..oh my it hit so fast..so I spent my birthday yesterday being ill. I did peek on the scale am down several pounds but am sure it won't stay..lol. Never does it stay off when you lose it being ill and not eating..lol. It was bad...I couldn't even drink coffee.

I am going to be heading to bed..sleep in very important.

NEOLE2682....what I was saying is that I agree with you on the weight loss stuff of Advocare....I said I use Spark..it has nothing to do with weight loss...Advocare was originally a sports performance company and Spark is one of their original products...weight loss is a newer thing for them. I do not use that stuff. Spark is not any different from taking vitamins form GNC.

Aggie: Goodness a Bakery with specialties yet. That's a difficult one. CMeehernandez (Char) owns a restaurant ..... maybe the two of you should get together and challenge each other to behave.
I think your piggy photo is a little negative, but I must admit every time I see it....I feel it is tellin me something.......I see it in front od me every time I open the fridge now, "sigh"

I have spent my last 2 mornings at the pool doing water aerobics. I came home and had my lunch and I am still sitting waiting for my fitbit battery to charge up. I had mango's and cottage cheese for lunch.
I have cucumbers and cantaloupe sprouting out from my new grow pots. Excited about that. Well, I am 75 and easily amused. LOL
I better do some watering this afternoon. I need to go to the library and get some DVD's too. They have a great selection and they are free for a week. I don't have TV of any kind at the moment and the WII Fit is broke (I think) Now I am wondering if that would of went when they turned the cable off. I don't understand all this technical stuff.

Ok I better scoooooot. Remember only 1 1/2 days left. Put them to good use. MA

Well I personally don't believe in any of that garbage... I'm not gonna take pills or drink supplements to get to my goals. You may love your advocare, but trust me, your body does not. Here's a very good article to check out...

Quite frankly, it could all be wrong.. I've never tried it and never will. I eat 90% primal/paleo and focus on getting a good balance of lean proteins, fruits, veggies, dairy, nuts/seeds and very few grains. Anything thats processed or couldn't have been grown or found way back when.. i don't eat it. If I absolutely NEED caffiene then its tea or coffee... the side effects and studies they continue to come out with on energy drinks is just shocking and terrifying.

Hey NEOLE2682 I love my Advocare!!!! Of course I only use Spark once a day in the morning . I do not understand the 24 day challenge stuff and such so I completely agree with you...the weight will come right back if you do not lose it the safe and slow way.

Just out of curiosity....what is everyone's biggest hurdle to deal with when losing weight. I am an emotional eater who owns my own Bakery. We specialize in weddings, 3D cakes, custom birthdays and hand made chocolates. Being around sweets all day everyday makes it so freaking hard :(

Sheesh... Imagine that.. only 2 days of the "week" to go... they jus seem to fly by so quickly.
I'm just getting back to working out after a fender bender a month ago... had my back and neck messed up for weeks i didn't even get rear-ended that hard. Anyways... I am soooo happy today because last night was the first night i was on my floor doing sit-ups, leglifts... stood up and did squats, bicep curls, shoulder presses, etc etc... and no bad kinda pain this morning! I'm so estatic to try and start easing back into everything.


Sorry to hear about ankle Michy, old injuries bite! emoticon And that really sux about them scammin you with the "free deals" Ma, I hate those... I've ordered things online in the past too and everytime it takes you to checkout you have to decline 5 other "special offers"... and some of them are worded SOOO sneakily... one time i just thought i was added a 2nd pan for same as i was paying for one... noooo it added one at their normal price of $29.99, plus $9.99 for the second annnnd the one i was already getting for $9.99. NO. i do not want 3 and am not paying you $29.99. grr they're so frustrating LOL


Thats what i love about the SP community... mostly everyones here to eat right and exercise and do it the healthy way. Over the weekend I vented and went off on a bunch of friends trying the latest new fad "advocare"... its unsafe and several people I know are buying into their 24 day we'll make you skinny claims... there truly are no shortcuts! Just need to put in work to get results!

Good morning everyone. I just wanted to pop in and say "hi." I just got all caught up on the messages. Welcome to all the new people!

My week is going okay. Unfortunately on Sunday I re-sprained or re-hurt my ankle somehow so I have been limping around and trying to rest a whole lot. It's an old injury and it is easy for me to re-hurt it from time to time. It only hurts when I put all my weight on it. Anyhow, no exercise for me for at least a week or two I would say. But I plan to swim laps as soon as I am feeling back to normal and then I will work my exercise videos in again. I also like to bike as well and thankfully, that is low impact! Anyway, I am really trying to stay super good on the calorie count since I can't exercise. You know what they say: Calorie intake is ~80% of losing weight. Exercise is good but food intake counts the most.

Hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday! Two days left of the week. Make them count!

Welcome to the newbies. Angeleyes328 is already a sparkfriend to a few of us here in this nine week challenge. Carol I am so tickled you joined us. It sure made my day. You are not alone with the slow losing thing. There are others here that will attest to that. Me for one.

Nicole: I am just dwn the road from you, and it has been HOT. I am glad I got my pool time in this morning.

My sales story. I watched a video on a product that was promoted by Dr Oz. They offered a FREE trial offer, after going on how good this product was. Who doesn't like free...Well there was shipping charges of 2.98. I started filling out the form. I did hesitate a little when they wanted my credit card #, but went ahead and finished and hit submit. Wow another form popped up and said "You are not done ordering" They wanted me to order another product and the shipping fee was $4.98. I thought this is a bunch of bull and decided they could keep their FREE offers, so got out of it. I thought this would cancel out the whole thing. A couple days later I found a confirmation in my e-mail for this Free trial offer and the shipping fee was $4.98. I called them. I found out that supposedly by accepting this free trial offer it gives them permission to send me a 30 day supply every month. I didn't see that anywhere when I was ordering or even how much it was, until I got the confirmation and called them. The product is like $89 a month. I think that inc shipping. HA! It's like now I am about to have a hissy fit.
Well, I did tell them I didn't want and couldn't afford their product. I need my money for real food. The free sample was for 15 days by the way, not 30. I will be getting the free sample cuz it was already shipped. It cost me another $25 to get the ordered cancelled, so my credit card won't be billed $89 next month. The product is called Garcinia Cambogia.
I am so gullible. I usually don't even watch that stuff because the ones I have watched they talk for 5 min and still don't say anything and end up wanting you to buy something in the end.

I guess I keep hoping their might be an easy way out of this obesity thing. There isn't. It is eating healthier, eating less, and get out there and exercise. I think anything else is just a temporary fix.

I will post the final Roster tomorrow. Today is the last WI day anyone can WI to be on the Roster.

Good Morning! emoticon emoticon Or maybe i should just say morning.. lol since its been such a rough one... can't seem to find anything today and any lil thing that could go wrong, has. Ah, well.. welcome to monday LOL The weekend was a blur... but a good one. Ended up having to work last minute afterall, but squeezed in everything but the pool time anyway. Had fun at zumba and an enjoyable albeit HOT walk sunday morning... next weekend we are for sure getting out there earlier! Well Jan, I’m jealous you can swim! Any time I spend in the pool is just me jumpin around, treading water, water aerobics stuff if I’m in it to burn some extra lil calories or floating if I’m relaxing. Lol Never learned how to swim… instead of teaching us how to swim, my dad always told us we’d drown in 2 tbls of water, tried to make us as afraid of it as he could. LOL


Good luck Angeleyes! Yooooou can do it!!! No getting discouraged, just keep on keepin on. Though that scale is an indication of our progress, it’s not everything!!! Little steps every day and a lot of persistence will yield the results we all want! emoticon emoticon

So jealous of you guys and your pools. I am a water baby and the thought of not swimming all summer is one of the hardest challenges ever. Because my Mom was not a swimmer my Dad taught all of us to swim before we could walk. By the age of about 7 or 8 we all went ocean swimming for a mile or two every week of the summer, no life jackets and deep enough so that we could not touch, really was the best part if our weekly trip to the beach, games and BBQ and s'mores and diving boards and water games were okay but it was always the real swim we enjoyed the most. I can float (no floatations devises) around a lake reading a book without getting it wet, annoys the heck out of my sister in law who sinks.

MA - don't be jealous yet-of our pool--we had to spend another $100 on it Friday. I took a water sample to Leslie Pool Service and after testing the water, we had to buy 4 different chemicals to add to it over a 3 day period--not too much work--easy peasy--but I'm wondering if we will ever get it cleared up from that 'accident' we had with the guy letting the cover slip and dumping all of that winter's junk into it a few weeks ago. I haven't been in yet--we did have it really clean for a few days and the girls went in, but I wasn't feeling well those few days and missed out--so--I guess I'm out of luck. emoticon

ALL--it's Sunday--TEEHEEHEE - what a profound statement--anyway--when we can't get to church, it's just not like a normal Sunday. Since DH is a preacher, Sunday is Church DAy--but not since his surgery. Can't waith for him to be well enough to get back in the pew.

I weigh in on Friday on my other team and lost 2 lbx emoticon and I hope that shows up on our team here on Thursday or maybe even a little more.

Jen: Sooo jealous of your pool. I have to walk a block to the community pool. It rained on my pool time last nite, but I was so determined to go that I went around 8pm. LOL-I took a flashlight to find my way home.

It was late again last nite b4 I got to bed. I have a young man with a MN number calling me at wee hrs of the morning and waking me up. He knows it is a wrong number, but is persistent on calling for what ever reason. I am going to stop at Sprint today to see if I can get the number blocked.

I need to go check on a couple vacant homes today and make sure all is ok. I need to go pick up some quest bars from vitamin world. I was looking for some tab curtains for my dining room on the internet last nite. I guess, I would like to see what I am paying for so will check out Target and K-Mart today to see if they might have anything. I will bring my grocery list with me as well. Being it is so HOT and Humid out, I will watch a movie this afternoon and get in my steps. And then head to the pool this evening, weather permitting. I would like to go after dinner, so I hope that works out.

I am thinking about all of you. I hope you are all doing well on your weight loss journey this week. I have a little story to tell in regards to a weight loss purchase I made, but I will save it for another time. A little warning though,,,be very careful of Free Trial offers. I am really old enough to know better, but I am so gullible.

Hi to All

Sounds like a busy time for all--it's been really busy here too. Been to the vet with the dog already today. Her 3 yr dog tag ran out May 31 and with DH's surgery and all the running around attached to that, I haven't been able to get her down to have her inoculated--so -- today was IT.

That started out the day at 8 then had to treat the pool again. I posted a blog about how it got really messed up this year and it has taken literally weeks to get it cleared up--a very time consuming and costly 'accident'. But the end is in sight now--I THINK AND HOPE. Usually DH takes care of it but now, he tells me what chemicals to put it, when, and I get 'er' done. Never too old to learn, right? emoticon emoticon

It will really be worth it when we get it finished. Just walk 3 ft down the walkway and into a nice 16 x 32 pool--AHHH--if we ever get it done emoticon We WILL get there. WE never give up. AND it really helps arthritis, and weight loss

I've lost 2 lbs in the first week of my journey from June 21 to June 28--on another team. I'm anxious to see what happens by our first weigh in on this team. Maybe the same--but it will be additional pounds. emoticon

We are on the way to emoticon some pounds to the curb. That's what I am here for anyway. I know its not always easy, especially when we don't make an effort. We are all here to support you and try to motivate and inspire you, but if you are not willing to help yourself and use some sound nutrition judgment and deny yourself sometimes, then you are not helping yourself or the team. Sooooo my Spark Friend, get yourself a plan and a goal and lets do it.

Make yourself a nine rung Ladder. Start from the Top or Bottom and move one rung every week you lose. If U have young children, get them involved. Play a sticker game, where they get a sticker when they eat a fruit or veggie. My kids use to love apple cheese snacks or melon balls, served with H'doreve forks. I think it was those cute little forks that made them dive in. There is an obesity epidemic out there. We need to make an effort to turn that around.

Ok. I am trying to get things done around my home today. I am looking forward to some pool time around 7pm. I hope U R all enjoying your week end. MA

Its friday and i don't have to work this weekend... so i am super happy about that! Got a sushi night out planned for tonight, but I did my homework last night and already know exactly what i'll be ordering to make smart choices and not destroy my hard work all week.

Got a busy, busy weekend planned... zumba at 8 tomorrow, going to a farm to get some veggies, fruits and stuff after that, then a massage appointment, go home for dinner and a walk/light run afterwards... Sunday a friend and I always meet by the Causeway Bridge to do a jog there along the water, gonna get in some pool time and a bit of sun afterwards (hopefully before it gets toooo hot.. upper 90's lately here in FL), then i have an appt for an oil change and some other errands to do Sunday before i go home and get prepped for the week. emoticon emoticon

The New updated Roster with SW's I plan on taking SW till June 30th, then Challenge will be closed to new contenders.

GolfInMomma is an Honorary member. We have her start weight. She needs surgery so won't be able to Weigh In. She will be allowed to weigh in at the end of the challenge providing she stays active on the board during the challenge. This was a pre-arrangement.

If you need to make some pre-arrangement be sure to let me know because otherwise if U miss 2 weeks in a row you will be taken off the roster.

I would also like to join the challenge. I will be on vacation for part of this challenge, so keeping up good eating and exercise habits will be a little difficult. But I don't want to gain back the pounds that I lost during the May/June challenge. And staying accountable by posting my weight here will hopefully help to make good choices.

emoticon emoticon emoticon I just looked at your weight thingy and see you are less than 2 lbs from ONEDERLAND emoticon emoticon emoticon You have really been working hard---If you slip and indulge into an 'entitlement' plunge once in a while--so be it--just get back on the wagon right away and it will work out.

Going to the pool should work that little bit off--just stop there and don't carry it on...right?

I agree with the teams that have too many threads and such. Some seem to think all team members have to do is sit here and watch the computer---NOT ME-- I HAVE A LIFE.

Jen - I did see U went back to the FireCrackers and I do wish U the best there, but I am glad U came to join us. I hope things are better at home. I always find my threads by looking at Recent Post. It can be found on your start page or scroll down to quick links to the right of most threads. I was in the 5% challenge once. I left because the Leader was Topic happy and a new thread every week for chat. I feel most conversations can be carried on in one thread. I don't like threads that you reply to once and then they end up in your recent post for 2 years. I try to stay away from those, but I forget some times...duh. Anyway glad your back.


I am going to go to the pool for a bit. I got a little frustrated today and ate something I shouldn't of, convincing myself I was entitled. I guess I will call it dinner plus tomorrows breakfast and snack - lol. Really not funny when I do that to myself. I need to have the team spirit and set a good example.

A big welcome to all the newbies. I was thinking 10 more and we could split into teams and play baseball, but it has been soooo long since I have done that. I am totally rusted out. We did have fun with that challenge a few times though.
