Not sure if anyone still comes by but anyway....
I had my full hysterectomy last Friday. Everything went very well, it was done robotically so I only have 4 small cuts on my belly. I had this week off from work to relax and heal. I'm getting a little stir crazy right now but I'll deal with it. We have heat advisorys right now so I'm not going out there, just walking around the house to get things moving. Next docs appt is Thursday so hopefully he'll okay some light exercise. So I don't think I'll be losing my 1 pound a week for a little bit, but I'm fine with that. I'll get there!

Doing good

The specialist said it wasn't cancer!! YAY!! He thinks I should have a full hysterectomy to be on the safe side. The abnormal cells they found were one step away from being cancer. I have no problem with having it done.

I was just shy of losing a pound this week. Even though I had this week off I only worked out twice but I did a lot of cleaning that needed to get done. And some relaxing of course emoticon

Hope everyone is busy

Pam,
Way to make lemonade out of lemons with the unexpected time off next week! What are everyone's excercise accomplishments or plans for this lovely Saturday? I hope to go for a walk and do 11 minutes on an elliptical machine. (I did 10 yesterday and am still sore!)

Welcome MELICIOUS come back any time!

Welcome back FAERY_PRINCESS I fall off all the time, but I always find my way back.

Well I finally get to see the specialist on Thursday so I'll know what's going on then.

I was 2 ounces shy of losing another pound this week, I'm good with that. I only worked out once this week. Next week I'll have plenty of time. My boss said that we didn't have enough work for next week and asked if I would take it off, so yeah I got time next week.

Have a wonderful weekend!!

POLINA36~ You're catching yourself now and that's great! You can do ths!

NEHEMY~ Welcome!! I need motivation too! We can do this!

Sorry I've been gone, I didn't realize I haven't posted since May!
I had a small surgery on the 30th to remove some inflammation and abnormal cells in my cervix, everything went good. I was supposed to go back this week for my post-op and results, but the nurse called me Monday and said the results were back and the doc wanted to see me sooner then the appt. That didn't sound good. On Wednesday I went in and he said that what he took out was cancer, but it was very early and he's positive he got it all. Now for preventative measures, because these cells travel, he wants me to see a specialist to take out either my uterus or everything. I'm good with everything. I don't want to have to worry about it. So now I'm just waiting for the specialist to call for my consult. I can't wait for this to be done.

I also lost a pound this week, our 23rd anniversary was yesterday and on Friday I resisted the doughnuts in the break room at work! Very proud!!

I'll keep you updated on everything! Have a great Sunday!

Thank you for the welcome. Until I had cataract and other eye surgery which prevented me from getting into the swimming pool for water exercises, I had been doing pretty well, maintaining ten pounds below my start weight, but above my goal. In the past two months I have gained back at a terrible pace, and fear I will soon be at the start rather than the finish!
So I am trying for a pound a week, beginning NOW.

Do it NOW.

Welcome Polina. I hope everyone is just busy and has not had time to check in. My weight went up a little last week. Not quite a pound but I am not happy about it. I have vacation coming up next week. I intend to get my runs in, Hopefully that will offset the restaurants I intend to try.

Thank you WALKERRN, when I'm at amusement parks I tend to eat light, sometimes forgetting to eat. We did a lot of sight seeing too.

Welcome to the challenge POLINA!!

Welcome back Jae!
I just got back. I weighed myself the day we left and I was 210.8 and when I got back I waited a day to get rid of water weight and I am 208! Love losing weight on vacation! I made pretty good choices when we ate, and we did TONS of walking one day was Disneyland so that was 8:30am-11:30pm! This might be to much info but I got blisters on my inner thighs from rubbing and got a major burn on my arms and chest, forgot the sunscreen at the hotel, oops. We had a wonderful time though even though I was in pain, I just ignored it as much as possible.

This vacation really made me realize I really need to get in shape. I would get out of breath so fast! Then the blisters! And the pictures I can really see how big I am. Need to change some bad habits.

Keep movin!!

emoticon Kay, thank you for saying you missed me. I missed you all too. I did have a good time and best of all, I feel refreshed. Ready for the work week ahead.

So how have you been doing? Have you stayed focused? I hope so.

Since Saturday, I have started a modified version of Bob Harper's The Skinny Rules. I'll report how this goes. Let me know if anyone has tried it.

Happy new week, everyone. emoticon emoticon

Welcome home! Sounds like you were successful if you didn't gain any weight while on vacation. It's ok to eat some things that you normally don't eat while on vacation. Sometimes I am happy with just not gaining. Hope you had a good time and we are glad you are back, we missed you! Kay

I hope those of you on vacation and planning them are having a great time. Remember to be active. I lost a little weight last week and am making good choices so far this week. Still working on the mid week runs and figuring out the new job. I have joined a hiking group. Most of the meetups are an hour from me but I am excited to try something new.
Keep pushing on to loose your pound this week.

Have a great time on your vacation J !! Mine starts Thursday morning.

I weighed again this morning and it was 209.8 !! Today is a surprise anniversary party for hubbys aunt and uncle so I know there'll be some bad food, hopefully there'll be some good choices. They didn't want anyone to bring anything so not much I can do. I'll eat something light before I go, that will help.

Have a great Saturday!!

emoticon Great news, Pam! emoticon And good for you getting out that healthy cookbook. I'm still where I was, little wonder though since I struggled last week. No matter, this is a long-term thing and I was good this week even though my working out suffered a little from long work hours.

I leave for vacation tomorrow morning so I won't be back on line until next Sunday. Everyone stay motivated and stay within your calorie range. Even if you are having a bad week. Change your calorie range to give yourself more calories and just make yourself stay within that range until you get more motivated. At the very least it will teach you restraint and mindful eating that's very important for our ultimate goal. emoticon

Don't avoid Spark when you are feeling less than motivated, just modify your plan until you feel stronger, but stay on a plan!

Exercise and make a small change this week that you can live with. emoticon emoticon

Everyone stay strong and focused while I'm gone and I'll check back in next Sunday. Hopefully with news that I was active and didn't go over my vacation-adjusted calorie rangeemoticon

When I'm not losing or doing the up and down thing I don't look at it, but when I was consistently losing I really liked it.

I'm gong to try and be here more often, when I was losing I was on sparks everyday and it really helped, so hopefully I can get going.

Tomorrow is weigh in I'm thinking it will be a small loss and that will be great!

I am so upset..... Jillian Michaels is here in Detroit tonight, I really wanted to go. I'm only 1 1/2 hrs away but with the trip coming up we need to save everything. Well hopefully she does this again.

Keep pushing on everyone!!

Question for all:

Do you utilize the chart when looking at the trends for your weight loss? I find this very helpful and encouraging. Even when you are going a little up and down when you are sticking to the plan consistently you will see your graph stays within your goal and it really helps keep you from getting discouraged. Just stay below that Goal line and you can't fail!!

Hi, I'd like to join. I've been getting a little lax about my eating and exercise. Had a bit of a binge this weekend and blew off several of my workouts last week. I got on the scale this am..... thankfully I did not gain since last week! But I know I need to rein myself in before I begin to undo all my hard work.

New week and new opportunities. Enough said. Wishing a good day to everyone. Try to make one good choice today. It will add up and become a healthy habit. Do it for yourself, you deserve it and you are worth it. Our bodies are our babies and I wouldn't feed my baby some of the junk I feed myself!

emoticon Pam, great news about your biopsy. Don't be nervous about the surgery; I'm sure you'll come out just fine. emoticon

Looks like you struggled much like some of us did last week. What was it about that week? emoticon

This is a long-term challenge so we don't beat ourselves up. No single week of being bad can keep us from our ultimate goal.

Strive for a better week this week and don't worry about the upcoming vacation. I'm going on vacation on the 13th so I have that looming too. Just commit to being mindful and think ahead about where you eat, just as you would about the route you take and you'll be fine. emoticon

J~ thanks for the pep talk :)

I did better with the food this week, no exercise though. I'm back to 211. I'm not too upset, I didn't get that far from it anyway. I'll do what I can this week. The week after that I'm a little nervous we're going on a road trip to California from Michigan that usually means fast food, I'll make better choices then I normally would.

My ultra sounds and the utrine biopsy came back normal but the OB doc wants to do a LOOP procedure that will remove the inflammation from my cervix. I've never had surgery before so I'm nervous about it. The great news is there is no sign of cancer!!

Here's to a much better week!!

Walkerrun and Faery, Thanks for the encouraging and kind words.

Boy, it sounds like we all had similar weeks. I was not at my best and I too am glad to say goodbye to last week.

I did start my week off better by getting right up and doing 45 minutes on the stationary bike this morning. Like you, Walker, I have to up my exercise. I was really bad last week and blew off about 4 workouts. Faery, mine was stress related too but we have to fight that and like you said, Walker, just up it even one day to begin with. It's not hard. But we have to be consistently good; not consistently bad!

So here's to a much better week coming up! I know we can do it. And yes, Walker, posting to Spark more often can help us be more accountable. I notice that when I don't want to get on Spark is when I'm being bad. Now there's a surprise. emoticon

I'm going to recommit to exercise this week and burn at least a min. 3000 calories. I am going on vacation on the 13th so I want to have a good mindset going in. emoticon

Here's hoping we all are stronger, more focused, and more active this week. emoticon emoticon

I did get my 8 miles in yesterday. Unfortunately it was not enough to make up for the decrease in activity and the poor eating choices and I gained a little. Oh well, I guess I am learning I need to make time to check in on spark people so I stay accountable to myself.
I will be starting fresh this week without beating myself up. Goal is to increase my mid week mileage. (should not be difficult as I will just have to get out there one day to increase it.)
I hope everyone is having a great day.

JSNOW- hope you are better this weekend. WALKERRN - wow! I am inspired by the distances you log. Keep up the great work. Fell a little off track this week with work stress. I wasn't making my 10,000 steps each day. I forgot to weigh in today, so I will so do tomorrow. My plan this week is to eat healthfully and get in the 10,000 steps! Since the weather is heating up, water will also be a focus. Everyone, have a fabulous weekend with great focus and great health!

Sounds like we all need to put this week behind us. I have not had time to get online this week so I have not checked in and made poor eating choices a lot. I plan on getting in 8 miles tomorrow so I hope to end the week strong.
Jsnow, I hope you are taking care of yourself and feeling better.

You have to be careful about cutting too many calories when you are working out or your body can work against you and hold all weight. I personally never have a problem of getting too few calories. I really like food a lot.

Elvalee,
I'm sorry to hear that. Have you re-evaluated your plan? Don't cut back too much and if you are used to working out, you will probably have to increase your exercising. What sort of range are you doing and what exercises?

Remember it's not a one size fits all. Some times it takes some tinkering to see where we should be to make progress. Hang in there. emoticon emoticon

I have gained weight for some odd reason. Since April the 4th I have been trying very hard exercising and watching what I eat, but for some odd reason I have gained instead of lost, gained 6 pounds and very upset

I had a stressful week also and wasn't careful of my eating. Looking to do better this week. I really feel much better when I eat only healthy foods, but only foods I really like. Let's all have a really great week and have a good check in next weekend! We can do this!

Pam, put the brakes on that stress eating. You know you can. It's a hard habit to break but you can do it, little by little. Keep some alternatives around that are more healthy to reach for when you do feel stressed. Keep your favorite easy to eat fruit or nuts. Take the approach that you will end this behavior but it will take time and ease into the habit of not doing it.

Most of all, don't beat yourself up over it. Move on! Remember, you are a work in progress.

I was stress eating again this past week. I didn't weigh in, I felt huge and I didn't want to see how much it went up.

emoticon Walkerrn, Whoa! 11 miles. Incredible. Good for you. Good for you on your weight loss. As long as we keep that trend going downward, we can't fail.

I'm sorry you've had a stressful week. I hope next week will be better. Yes, it is so difficult not to reach for the easy and sometimes not so good choices under those circumstances but this is a new week, learn from the mistakes and move on.

I've had some stress too this week plus last night had a fainting spell and threw up for 3 hours. I'm sure that helped my weight loss this morning, but hey, I'm taking it!!

This is a new week! Let's make it a good one! emoticon

Faery, huge emoticon on your 2 pound loss. Fantastic! I'm down nearly that much too. Boy that puts me in such a better frame of mind.

No slip ups for me this week either so that's progress! emoticon I cut back on my working out this week both from, I must admit, laziness and the fact I had to put in a lot of extra hours at work. I hope to up that this next week. emoticon but there will be more OT at work. I ended up burning about 1500 calories which isn't bad but I need to do better.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I weigh on Sundays and lost 0.8 this week. I will take it. Very stressful end to the week with almost no sleep from Thurs AM to yesterday afternoon, led to poor eating choices. I did walk 11 miles yesterday at relay for life.
I also want my calories to be worth it. If I am eating something unhealthy I try to make sure it tastes as good as I thought it would. If not, I try to walk away.

I know just what you mean. It's so unsatisfying to fill up on something that you don't really llike, that's full of calories and fat. That makes the slip doubly annoying.

J,
It's good to be picky! I usually allow myself little worthwhile treats, like really good vanilla cake or some quality gelato. I get frustrated with myself when I slip and splurge my calories on stuff that isn't great to begin with!
Hope everyone is having a great on track day!

Hi Faery, oh yeah, I know the dreaded birthday bomb. My very favorite sweet in the world is fancy birthday cake but I have gotten to the point where (most of the time) I can just eat a small piece. I never deny myself the cake entirely. What I also am in the habit of now is if it's not something I like a lot, I just don't eat any. I used to eat any sweets that came my way, but now I am picky. It allows me to indulge in the ones I do like - in moderation. emoticon emoticon

Thanks to those who gave tips on the sweets! I'm not a pickle fan, but it's a neat tip! I had forgotton about the cocoa almonds; I need to go get some of those. They used to be a staple of mine. Being mindful of what's in the house is important. It's hard to do when hubby and kiddos want stuff here.
I need to refocus; today I gave into the kindergarten teacher's worst emeny: the dreaded birthday cupcake! What's even worse is that it wasn't even from one of MY students; the teacher next door had extra. Sigh... 16 more of those little birthday bombs to avoid for this school year.
I find that if I pack my cool cup with sugar free chai made with almond milk and sip that during the birthday treat time, I can avoid consuming one. This way I only get the 40 calories from the almond milk.

I would love to lose 1 pound per week. I have been at a plateau now for 3 whole weeks. It's driving me crazy!! I am continuing to track everything I eat, and am trying to stay motivated until this plateau ends. It would be awesome to see the scale move down a bit each week.

1 pound per week = 52 pounds per year !!!!

Walkerrn, I'm glad your puppy is doing well. Good for you doing your whole walk.

I have found those cocoa covered almonds as well. They are yummy but not so yummy that I want to pig out on them so they are a very good sub. If I remember correclty, the cocoa doesn't even add any calories or fat, so they're pretty ideal.

Hmmm, a dill pickle as a hedge against a sugar craving, that sounds like a good idea. I will have to try it.

My pup is doing well, thanks for asking. She was only able to do about a mile and a half so I did the rest alone. I truly enjoyed the walk.
For those of you struggling with sweets, I found cocoa roast almonds today that I am using as a healthier snack when I must have sweets, I will portion it out in 1 ounce servings so I do not eat the whole jar. Another trick that is working for me is eating a dill pickle when I want something at night.. I tend to crave salty, so I do not know if it will help everyone. When I eat a pickle the thought of something sweet after it is not a pleasant thought, so I do not feel deprived while everyone else snacks.

emoticon Hi everyone,
Jsnow999, you sound a lot like me. I too love cookies and cakes and I can and do love to cook them, too. Needless to say, I had to give that up except occasionally and give most of them away, when I do bake them.
I try to cook healthy meals and occasionally use sugarfree pudding or yogurt and fruit for deserts.
I spent one night this week out of town, so I was eating out and had to be very careful, but I think I did OK. I weighed this morning and have lost one pound, so now on to the next one!
Hope you all have a really excellent week.
Use lots of Persistence and Consistence.

Hi, Faery,
I tell ya, my sweets are simply out of control. I promise you I could live on candy and cookies. No lie! So it's going to be a struggle for me to cut them down.

My plan is first, don't keep a bunch in the house. It's so true, if it's not there you won't eat it. But I'm also a good cook so I can make something with what I have in the house. So it's not just not buying it ready made that will help me, I have to exercise some control. Plus, my husband is a sweets freak. emoticon

Anyway, my plan is as follows:
1. Don't buy it.
2. Take time to make balanced meals AND most of all add one fruit to each meal either before or as dessert. Something that is surprisingly good (to me) sliced strawberries with a little Splenda sprinkled on them.
3. Instead of some cookies or other sweet for my snacks at work, I am taking easy to eat fruit, like grapes. I love grapes.

Let me know if you discover any yourself!

So glad to have you with us.

I know how that creeping weight gain can be. I gained 30 pounds in the past two years and though it was hard to ignore, I did anyway. emoticon

Excellent job staying within in calorie range even though you went out to eat. That's always a test of our will power.

I have committed to cutting out so many sweets this week. It is my biggest area of trouble. I figure I eat about 30 percent of my calories in sweets. Isn't that nuts?

Be sure to post your progress!

I'm so happy that you're feeling better. Now, time to train for that marathon! emoticonI'm looking forward to hearing that you did that 4 miler.

Good for you asking for Thai food yesterday. You're doing so well.

Regarding your earlier post: I agree with you on the low cal stuff. I say it's better to modify our portions. You know it's funny, I started out thinking that I couldn't drink a lot of plain water and I bought some of that water flavoring stuff but I've found that I now prefer the plain water and I'm drinking a lot more of it. I do like to have the occasional cherry cola but I try to keep that at no more than a couple times a week.

I would like to join this challenge. I have lost two pounds so far so slow weight loss is what I do. I work out 6 days a week, 60 minutes at least, I also take anti-rejection and steroids for a kidney transplant 2002, so slow weight loss is all I got. Sandy

I'll be joining you on this challenge, I really believe in slow weight loss.

I didn't weigh myself this morning because I know I gained back the little I recently lost. I'm a stress eater and I found out from my OB that I have some pre-cancer cells. He did a cervix biopsy last week, yesterday I had ultra sounds done and Tuesday I get a uterine biopsy. I'm glad he's doing all these tests but boy am I stressed!! Therefore eating!! My hubby is stressing too and that stresses me even more and puts me on edge, I feel like I'm arguing with him all the time. I know he's just concerned about my health. I just have to keep that in mind and try and relax.

To go along with your topic, I don't like to omit anything unless it's really bad like pop(soda, I'm from Michigan) and even that I have very occasionally. I'm starting to not even like the taste of it anymore. Moderation is key I think, as long as it fits in your calorie allowance.

I've rambled on enough I think, I'll keep you updated!

How is everyone doing? Does anybody have a fun plan for being more active this week? I am feeling better so I will be getting out to get a few miles in on the nature trail with my dog who lost her leg to cancer a month ago.

Good for you! I'm working on giving up coffee and replacing it with tea, like a raspberry tea or green tea. I only drink coffe at work so you'd think it would be easy. It will also save me about 60 calories a day, 5 days a week. emoticon

I have never liked the low cal stuff. If I drink enough water I do well without the sodas. I only crave them when I eat certain foods. (Probably foods I should avoid.) Pizza loaded with cheese or fried appetizers, and potato chips. All of which I am aiming to decrease the intake of so I should fair weill giving up sodas.

WALKERRN1 - are you talking about low cal sodas or the full-on sugar kind? Either way, that's a great goal. emoticon I allow myself the occasional cherry coke but mostly I drink the calorie free, though I am attempting to cut out so many and opting instead for homemade lemonade and tea. I know that I need to give up the sugar substitutes but until I get my weight off that's not going to possible. I simply need that outlet. But good for you!emoticon Do you have a substitute that will help you?

Hi KAYSON25 emoticon I know what you mean about sliding slowly back into bad habits. That's something, I know all too well. Like they say, if it isn't in the house you won't eat it. But think about finding a good substitute. I wouldn't deny myself entirely. I'm determined not to give up anything per se but to find other, less unhealthy versions to enjoy in moderation. And yes, those portions will get you. For a while, at least, use the food tracker for all you eat and get a handle on where you are going astray.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. emoticon emoticon

I want to join this challenge. My name is Kay and I joined SP in January. I lost 7 pounds by mid March and haven't lost anything since then. I know I have stopped being as careful in my serving sizes and have gone through a couple of sugar and chip binges. I really have to not eat those things at all, so I will give up foods with added sugar and no more chips until I lose to where I want to be. I lost 32 pounds a few years ago with Weight Watchers, then gained 10 back. I am tired of loitering so close to my goal weight. Just need to do it!

The choice is mine. I am in charge of me. Live healthy.

I have been trying to figure out 1 bad habit to change. I want it to be something I know I can succeed with. I have decided that giving up the sodas is it. I have dramatically cut down on the amount of soft drinks I have been reaching for, so this is a good start to the healthier me.

What are they?

How is everyone doing? Last night my hubby pulled a "before bed snack" initiative on me and I cracked a bit, though I'm happy to report that I kept it under control (even though I shouldn't have eaten anything) But long term weight loss is more than sticking rigidly to a plan, it's far more important to consistently make good choices, or modify what could be bad choices to learn good habits for the rest of my life. So while it wasn't a victory, it was at least a small note in the win column.

Have a wonderful day, everyone! emoticon emoticon

I think it is good to allow a small amount of something you really want. The problem for me is if I deprive myself. Fortunately with this cold I have no appetite so I am loosing weight. I am not sure how it will play out when I feel better.

I think you are right, this is key. Today, I have to face the fact that I need an adjustment to my calorie range. My weight has stagnated. Time to take off some of the sweets I'm allowing myself. emoticon emoticon But at least there are small adjustments I know I can make. What's frustrating is when you are already denying yourself everything you want and can't lose.

I've found that making one or a few small changes at a time helps me to stay on track longer, or get back on track more quickly after a slip.

I'm with you; I don't want drastic changes or doing without. I want to learn how to eat normally.

I'm sorry about your headache. I'm sure in time those will fade. I'm not trying to do without anything in particular but I am trying to control my servings and sweets.

It won't be easy, but we can do this through the miracle of consistency! emoticon

Feel free to Spark mail me any time. If it's just you and me, we don't have to keep it here.

I am looking forward to it. I am currently fighting a headache and cravings as I try to decrease sugar and caffeine, I am trying to make better choices and stop eating when I am "Comfortably full." I am not giving in to a lot of drastic changes at one time.

I am not sure if you are still interested in the challenge. (I saw there wasnot much of a response.) If you are still up to it I would love to join your challenge. I am in the beginning stages of training for Marine Corp Marathon and learning to run. I will have to loose weight to accomplish my goal and would love some support. I am starting slow and trying to make healthy choices.

If you are interested in joining me for the challenge of losing 1 pound a week challenge.

I don't know about you but I need some fire to help me stay on the straight and narrow. It's harder to lose weight slowly (in my opinion) please post if you want to join me in this ongoing challenge.

Post your goals, your successes and yes, your failures and let's work together on this long-term process.
