Thanks to all my new friends I made here on this thread! I would love to add you as friends if that is ok! I maintained this last week (I don't know how, with no real exercise going on) so I know I will finish up by Valentine's day. You have been supportive, positive, and I am so happy for those of you who made your goal, or like me, part of your goal! So much better than feeling hopeless about your health around this time!
There is already a "lose 10 pounds by Valentine's Day " thread going, Yukisaito has joined, I am thinking of joining the Quickfire team - a metabolism booster challenge every day - because I think that is my weakness and I joined this thread to stay accountable thru the holidays, but don't need that motivation thru normal days, and I would normally rather focus on health than numbers. Good luck to all of you

Congrats everyone! Even those that didn't make it still put in a huge effort and it all pays off in the end!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. Now on to the next challenge!

Not too bad... especially after Nochebuena dinner last night. Still lost nearly 10 lbs! The best part about this challenge was seeing my family's reaction at dinner last night; they noticed the difference!
A few people had mentioned doing another challenge for Valentine's Day; I'm completely for it.
wow- I'm losing momentum. Maybe it's too hard to focus on more than one major thing at a time for me. So I am out to do cardio right now, even tho I have all my gifts still to wrap (they can be wrapped at midnight, right?)

GREAT JOB JULIE!!!!! I'm saving my weigh in for Christmas day this week both to give myself the 2 extra days and to hold myself accountable to eating that day.

I did it!! Weigh-in this morning confirmed, I lost 3 lbs last week.
So, stats for this challenge are:
SW: 185 GW: 170 CW: 168!!
This is a loss of 17 lbs from Halloween to Christmas (since I won't weigh in again until after), and a total of 22 lbs. since I started with SP.
My goal now is to maintain this through the next 2 weeks and then resume my downward movement. Next Challenge will be the V-Day challenge.

If I could make that, then I would have met my first personal goal of getting back to my wedding weight!

I agree. It has really been a big help for me to have this group to check in daily. And those 6 lbs I've lost have definitely been worth it. I hope to find out Sunday or Monday that I'm pregnant. Then my goal will change to having a strong, healthy pregnancy and gaining a healthy amount of weight. BUT if I'm not, I'm all for the goal of losing another 10 lbs by Valentine's Day.
We leave Sunday to visit my family in Washington, and I'm really excited to see them. I'm going to get a free 7-day pass to my mom/dad's gym and exercise while I'm on vacation. If anything, my goal is to maintain my weight over the holiday. :)
Thanks for keeping me motivated everyone! And congrats to those who have (or will have) made their goal of 15 lbs!

I agree with Darcy. Congratulations to all of those who will make the 15 pound goal, but to those of us who won't, then let's make a new goal to get the rest of the 15 off by Valentine's Day or sooner. We've come to far to let go of all we have gained thus far, or shall I say all we have lost :) For me it's only been 3 pounds, but that's 3 pounds less that when I started! Have a great weekend everyone, and let's stay focused and on track!!

I absolutely refuse to give in, if only for the sake that maybe-- by shooting for 6 lbs-- I can lose 3 or 4 and get to the 130s!
I knew going in that 15 lbs would be a "Christmas miracle" but if the goal had been "lose 10 lbs by Christmas" or "lose 9 lbs by Christmas" I would have still signed up! This goal was to keep me on track and really trying, instead of "giving up" and eating everything in sight or telling myself I am too busy to do any cardio this whole month - then I would have had an even greater challenge in January. This way I can say, "I am being healthy this whole month!" and when I eat those 2 Christmas cookies, or have a day when my exercise is shopping at 6 am and cleaning the house all day long, I know that is one isolated incident in a month of positive steps to live a healthy life! I know it is hard - I am a teacher, and have been given so many "goodies" these last few days it would boggle your mind - just because I have not shopped or baked does not mean it is not in my house!!- plus parents have brought in latkes, cookies, cupcakes, marshmallow snowmen, etc. for the last 2 weeks. Having this challenge in the front of my mind has really helped me pass so many things up. If I only maintain I am a winner! Nobody here gets "kicked off the island" or whatever for losing 8 lbs or 12 instead of 15. If that 15 comes off by January 12, or Feb 1, it is still OFF and OFF for good! So don't give up and DON'T GIVE IN!

Angie-- I understand completely! With only 1 week left, I weigh about 142... don't see how I can lose 6 lbs in one week.
No way I'm going to make my goal. It's that time in my cycle where I want to eat everything in sight. I have lost my willpower. :( But I'm going to try to make up for a bad day by riding the bike for an hour tonight.

Haven't checked in weeks 1) Because I couldn't find my way back :-) 2) Because I had a hospital visit and health issues that cut down on my workout time.
Still been putting in my eating time and last 2 weeks back on schedule with my workouts. Until this week have still been steadily losing. But this week the scale didn't move from the 180 it was the week before. Not to mention it's my TOM.
Which possibly puts me behind for the 176 goal for next Friday- we'll see.
Also been picking up my running a bit more because I am scheduled to run a 10 k in 6 wks. Curious how that will effect this weeks weigh in (muscle gain vs fat loss).
So as of yesterday-

Darcy - I know that feeling!! Can you throw your body a curve? like a really different day of exercise, or calorie cycling? eat one day at the top of the range, the next one or two days close tothe bottom, etc) I think our body tries so hard to maintain the status quo! Keep it up! remember, losing weight is a byproduct of living a healthy lifestyle - the healthy day to day living is the goal, the weight loss just follows in its own due time. That's why striving only for a number on the scale is an empty goal. I know you know that, I just put it in writing for ME!
don't let numbers "make" you happy or sad - choose your own emotions!

Darcy, I'm feeling the same. Working hard to maintain, but I want to LOSE. This week I feel like I worked hard, but the scale this morning showed 152.8 (Same as last Sunday). {Sigh}
This week I'm going to do the "Flat Belly Diet" Jumpstart menu Tues-Friday. Hopefully that will get rid of some bloat and I'll be down 2-4 lbs by my next weigh-in. (Pretty please).
Does anyone know, how many calories do the contestants of The Biggest Loser consume while doing the show? I know they exercise for like 6 hours a day, but I've often wondered how much they need to eat to not starve.

Having trouble losing the needed pounds.... Was so happy a few weeks ago when I weighed 143 (at which point I was still on track), but this morning I clocked in at 144.4. Should be at 140.... Aaaaargh.
I'm going through this weird phase where I feel like I'm exercising 4-5 times a week just to maintain my weight now, instead of shedding the pounds.
I haven't checked in for a couple of days. I hosted a dinner party at my home, the entree was prime rib (I didn't choose -or cook- this!) and it was wonderful, the rest was a really good salad, green beans, and brown rice medley. But i had a day of mindless eating, eating in the frenzy of shopping/cleaning/decorating/ and I feel so different (out of control?bloated?too much sugar?) I am really looking forward to tomorrow and making good choices again!!

MONIEE, doing great! 5 lbs is awesome!
Today was a good day for me. My workout was short (fighting kids), but I probably still burned about 250 calories. Doing good on calories today. Spaghetti for dinner and I'm not a big fan, so I didn't overeat.

Julie, congrats on the weight loss!
The scale is not being my friend this week. I know I shouldn't weigh myself every day like I do, but it's just a habit. I like to see my daily progress. As of today I'm up 1 pound since Sunday. :( I think I've done pretty well this week, with the exception of two days ago. I think the main thing is that I haven't been exercising as long since I've been running. Maybe the bike does really burn as much as it says it does.

Hey everyone! I weighed in this morning 1.6lbs lighter :D I'm really happy! I was afraid that the scale wouldn't move since it's that TOM for me...
I'm going to do lots of exercise after dinner tonight while my BF plays hockey!

OK, yesterday wasn't so great. :( I'm sure I went over my calories with MIL's chocolate fudge pudding cake. What was I thinking!? I didn't bother to put it on my tracker. I'm sure it added an extra 200-300 calories easily, though. :( I feel stronger since I've been running, but I need to focus on the part that's always been difficult for me--FOOD. Two weeks until Christmas, and I WILL lose 5 lbs.
Hope everyone is having a good week.

Popping in for an update.
10/30 SW 262 GW 247
11/ 8 260.2 (1.8 down total) 11/15 257.8 (4.2 down total) 11/29 255.2 (6.8 down total) 12/9 252.2 (9.8 down total)
Frecks96, WTG on reaching your goal!!! That's awesome.
V, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother's passing. My thoughts are with you.
Shigrl3, I know there are some days where I just don't want to do anything, and I want to eat everything in sight. (It's usually the week before my period shows). Hang in there. You'll find your motivation.
Cindbug, I hope your dentist appointment goes well and that you can get rid of that pain.
AFM, I did another 20 minute run today. WooHoo! I've got a blister to show for it, but it was worth it. I feel good. I also did some strength training today, so that was good. Now the test will be if I can stick to the plan as far as eating goes.

Just checking in today. First, I am so sorry for your loss, V.
For everyone else who has been struggling, just keep at it as much as you can. Everyday you succeed is another day closer to your goals.
I have *unofficially* met my goal of 15lbs before Christmas. My weigh in day is not until Monday, but I got on the scale this morning as a mid-week check and was at 170!! As long as I am able to finish the week as strong as I started, I should have no problem being 170 or less by Monday.

I'm having one of those weeks where I look in the mirror and hate what I see. I feel fat and ugly, and what's worse is that I didn't work out at all last week and nothing yet this week so far. I don't know what's wrong with me :( Where can I find my motivation again? I know it's up to me to change what I see, I hate feeling this way :(

great run, angie! glad you like running so much.
still not doing great with the exercise - don't sleep well with the toothache. In fact, I wake up dreaming about doing strenght training - I guess I miss it. Tomorrow is my dentist appointment so hopefully I'll be back in to my normal routine in a few days. My body misses exercise more than it misses sweets these past few days!

Hi all! Just checking in today. It hasn't been the best day today nutrition-wise, but I can still stay within my ranges. It'll just mean I'll be hungry tonight (and no popcorn while watching Harry Potter). :)
I just finished my workout for today. Watched last week's Biggest Loser while on the treadmill. That's the first time in over a year that I've run for 20 minutes straight. Something about seeing those guys run their marathons really pushed me. And it was easier than I expected. Maybe someday that'll be me running a marathon. Or at least a half marathon. ;)

Julie - What perserverance! I am so happy for you! What a way to go into the Christmas season - keep it up!
My own personal happy dance - as a product of my healthy lifestyle, the scale moved again and I am down 8 lbs since the challenge began. The best part is that I know the weight will stay off because I will always eat and exercise in a healthy way now. As a "turtle", I will cross that finish line in my own due time, and 10 lbs by Christmas is still a wonderful gift!

Today was my "official" weigh-in day. Wow. I'm down to 152.8 this week. That means I've shed 4 lbs since last Sunday! I was at 155 the day before Thanksgiving, so I think the extra Thanksgiving weight came off easier than it usually does. So, not only did I hit my "normal" BMI range, but I also met my goal of 153 for the week. I'm very happy with my hard work this week and that I'm on my way to meeting my Christmas goal. I'm hoping for another 2.5 lbs this week.
SW: 159 CW: 152.8 GW: 149 (I know it's not 15 lbs, but I had to adjust it b/c of a rough start in the beginning).
Have a great week all!

Ran 3.7 miles in the very brisk morning. Official weigh-in tomorrow.
I tried the jumpstart cardio also. I have burned plenty of calories with that one. I believe consistent weight lose means consistently changing your exercise routine and also trying a new healthy habit once a month atleast. This is when I have the most weight lost success.
Have a good weekend.
A man's belly is filled by the fruit of his mouth; He will be filled by the produce of his lips. Death and life are in the power of the tongue; Those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:20-21
yukisaito - there is a funny 10 minute video - go up to "healthy lifestyle" then down to "videos" - that coach nicole made that is 10 minutes of pretty intense cardio using only jumping and stepping (it's called "jumpstart cardio", and my favorite one is "day one bootcamp cardio" - no equipment for that one either.) If it doesn't hurt your tooth to jump, you should try it - no equipment necessary! I met our sparkgroup at the park today and did cardio and yoga - no equipment for that, either!

Cindbug - Mine still hurts a little bit. I can't really eat much but I am trying hard because I get hungry all the time. For some reason, I feel hungry when I know I can't eat much due to the pain. I can't help thinking about food I don't have any exercise equipment at home. I will try to go to our community gym for some light workout.

Well I gained a pound this week; however I was really depressed all week. So that makes me only losing 6 now instead of the 7 I had lost already. But all is good. I will lose some weight next week. I feel it! I only have 9 pounds to lose yet to reach the goal. I can do this!!

I hate it when I'm sick and can't do what I'd like to do...I had the flu shot yesterday and I couldn't do my strength training because my arm is hurting so bad! Even jumping when doing cardio hurt me. I did it anyways, but I don't think I could've done strength...

tried to log on but there was a problem with the html or something - glad everybody is keeping up the energy and the momentum! Yukisaito, I too have a toothache - had it since Monday, still eating ok (hard to get the protein and fiber in when you don't feel like chewing) and really not keeping up with the cardio - now I have pain meds and antibiotics so hopefully will get into my routine again. Good thing I have a stationary bike here at home, or I wouldn't know what to do tonight to get in any cardio!
Julie - so glad to hear you're off that plateau!

I'm quite late to join this group but I've been looking for a group with daily check-ins. I hope no one minds :)
My goal weight is 175 by Christmas. I weigh in every Wednesday (it helps me to make sure I'm heading the right direction halfway through the week - or I lose my "oomph") and Sunday (official weigh in day). I'm off to do two-episodes-of-The-Office-worth of elliptical workout.
I had a hard time eating breakfast. In the end, I only had a hot chocolate milk. Today will be difficult.

VCANLOSE, I'm sorry you're having a stressful day. Try to take time for yourself. Maybe get a nice long candlelit bath. Hang in there girl. We're here for you.
MONIEE, Way to go on the weight loss!
Checking in for myself. Today was a pretty ok day. I went over my calories by about 75, but I got in an extra 30 minutes on the bike. I also did The Firm this morning. I do need to work on not eating so many oreos. LOL I think most of today's calories are from cookies. Oops. It's only 8pm and I'm starving from eating so many empty calories today.

Hi all. It's not my "official" weigh-in day, but I just wanted to post that the scale said 154 this morning! That means my BMI is officially in the "healthy" range! I'm so excited!!! I'm no longer considered "overweight". :) Let's hope it stays that way and I can lose another 5 lbs before Christmas.
Hope everyone is having a good week!

Daily check-in. Today was good. I was able to squeeze in 60 minutes on the bike tonight when DH got home, and I stayed within my calorie range (I think). Not the best choices for lunch again, but overall it was good. Now it's WAY past bedtime. So much for my 8 hours of sleep.

Cheese. Bacon. Tomatoes. Yum! Chef Meg finds a slightly more sophisticated version of the hot pepper poppers found on appetizer menus everywhere. Her version uses mild banana peppers, creamy Gouda cheese, a bit of bacon for a smoky richness, and tomatoes to offer a bit of freshness. She grills them to add another layer of flavor to the dish.
Serve these as an appetizer or unexpected side dish at your next barbecue!
