Hi -- this is my first post to this board. Today, I want to finally tackle a stack of paperwork (bills, filing, letters, etc) that I have been looking at and moving from place to place for a couple weeks.

TRILLIANTOO, I am so sorry to hear about your cat... Have you found out yet what course you will need to follow?

Sounds like a dream job, CASSARAH!

I am doing paperwork and trying to find out what to do for a lost title and registration from an out of state for a vehicle that hasn't been driven...but we have to get it licensed and use it because our other old car has something wrong with it in the electrical system... always so little time...and way too much to do! The FAQs never seem to answer the questions I have! GRRRRR

I still need to clean the room.

But based on other info ... I'm thinking I really need to talk to my maternal grandmother.

I think that may ursurp a clean home.

Yay on the job!!!

For me, got the cat to the vet - wow, he's got cancer. Find out tomorrow if there's anything to do or given his age and other health considerations we have to just let it run its course.

So tomorrow I'll be spending the day at home getting things put away and organized so I'm here for the call (vs. driving around where maybe I don't get the call or can't take notes).

I want to talk to the vet live so I can get all my questions answered ... and also sort of "get it over with" so I know what we're facing and not spend days playing phone tag.

I got the furniture back in place on Friday. Made a good start at sorting the gathered clutter on Saturday.
Sunday I just prepared some good food and enjoyed the big event.
Just for today: I will finish putting away papers, or spend 15 minutes on it, whichever comes first.

ooh...didn't get my goal done before midnight. Still working on it, but I think I'll first pack for tomorrow. Then...this week--I'm gone for most of it--goals of rest and renewal through silence and solitude times. Much needed. Looking forward to seeing how all of you are doing when I get back. Little by little...yep. We're getting there!

I really appreciated hearing the "men suck" thing, though. I get that not all men are like that - or else I'd give up looking for a husband (which I very much in fact have not - in fact I met a really nice man tonight). It felt supportive to me.

SuperBowl for me was really interesting. First time I watched it. I watched the start at the American Legion, which was really interesting for the two opening songs. I was moved by them just from the energy and the awesome clarity of the HD screen. But being in a room full of service men, with everyone standing up, hats off, hands on hearts, it was quite a moving experience.

Then I moved to a pub (because it was too cold at the Legion, and they had all the doors open so all the cigarette and cigar smoke was blowing in, plus no one was talking to me).

That was really fun, had a great conversation covering a wide range of topics, from silly to intellectual, TV shows to business ideas, ... all with one man.

I had a few other unusual experiences as well, but they'd be very hard to explain.

Went to the Legion hungry hoping I could get one of those men who normally want to buy me a drink (I get water) to buy me food instead, but it turned out to be a HUGE event, so for $10 I got the hugest plate of food I could imagine and ate all kinds of things I don't normally, then free nachos at the pub, and I amazingly was still hungry after that, but having no food at home I got a small fast food burger.

I probably ate far more than I needed, but I'm not worried about it - given it's just one day, given I've never been to a SuperBowl event before, and given that I've not eaten much this week.

Now I have to figure out what my "one thing" is for tomorrow - oh, call the vet. I keep thinking to do it after hours and I can't leave a message.

Things are better for me, too since joining this challenge and I do love the sharing here! Today, my goal was to sit and watch the Super Bowl...
I don't really care who wins...I just hope it is a good game and while I am watching it, I want to put together some pictures and pages for scrapbooking... I am anxious to have some creative minutes again...once we get through all of the paperwork we are all doing.

I discovered today that it really helps too if you have a partner to come work with you. My mother came to help me clean out a room that is full of stuff belonging to my landlord because my daughter is going to have to move back home for a while. With her here I was able to work longer and better than when I am by myself. I just hope I don't pay for it later.

I wear my sons t-shirts and sweatshirts all the time. When I am at home I wear his cotton athletic pants. Its a good thing he is such a good kid. He doesn't mind. Our financial situation is completly on hold right now as I am waiting for my disability (which take for-ever).
IBS gets me too. One day I can wear these pants comfortably (or even one minute) and the next my stomach is too swollen. I actually have a pair of BDU pants (miltary pants) that I wear out a lot. They have the tabs on the sides so you can adjust the tightness of them.
I just hate going out period though. It seems like when I am out I get those "chilled" feelings worse. It feels like you are going to get a chill but then it feels like someone dumped a bucket of stick pins all over your skin.
I would like to check out those yoga pants. I will look them up on line. Thanks

My One thing for today is not to overeat when I go to my MIL's Annual Spaghetti Super Bowl Party later today! I have 700-900 cals. remaining in todays calorie count - so I think I can do it, but she really heaps it on the plate, if you know what I mean, plus I think I'll skip the garlic bread, but I know she'll offer...I'll have a huge salad to start and a full glass of water!!

Just found out my boyfriend will be spending the entire day watching loads of sexy naked women dancing and prancing around.

So I decided to go flirt wtih all the men at my local hangout. No way I want to stay home now!

Lovely - this guy has a whole wardrobe of crappy clothes, and I just found out that he's wearing his ONE NICE OUTFIT to this shindig - clothes I bought him.

I'm going back and forth between cleaning up this room (I kinda just dropped everything last Monday and it's remain where it fell) and going to my local hangout to watch the Superbowl.

I really don't care about the superbowl, but I'm feeling like I need to be around physical, in real life, people, that I've been alone too long.

I can't do both because of the effort required - picking up, sorting, filing, dealing with dirty dishes, or showering, doing my hair, putting on makeup. Both will be hard and painful.

I don't make lists. My life is not that complicated. When I see some of the challenges people on this site are overcoming I feel quite humbled.
I do stack chores that can be done sitting down (e.g. baskets of laundry)next to my chair in front of the TV so I will take care of it.
My house is much improved since I joined SusyQ's challenge. emoticon
It really helps me to pick a single task. Instead of looking around and thinking "I have to clean this house" and feeling put out by that, I can say "This bathroom sink needs cleaning" and then do it.

What a great idea to put together that list, TRILLIANTOO... pretty brilliant. It is good to know others have that problem of forgetting about already doing something. Going through the entire house in a month might not be feasible ... but I do "check off" that 15 minutes ever day. Most days...no matter what I can do 15 minutes...sometimes it is 5 mins at a time and sometimes it is 3 mins at a time. What a great group to share ...both the feelings ...and what works for you! Loving all the inspiration I get from this challenge. Today, I had to do errands and it was so great to have help...managed to cross off everything on the list!

I so get you about the PJs.

Have you tried yoga pants? I get mine at Old Navy for about $10 and they're sooooo comfortable, it's almost like wearing pj pants. I get a size bigger so they're more "pajama-ish".

I have come to REALLY love yoga pants - I hardly wear anything else, because of the pain of the thick band of material around the waist of most pants and skirts. Great for "built-in tape measures" but really bad for being in pain.

I have several pairs of appropriate sized black ones for regular going out, and several oversized soft fluffy ones for staying in and for just running to the store.

I also love my super-large shirts - I have a few with funny sayings.

So that way I'm still in "street clothes" but feel more like I'm in my pjs.

Also, I find the yoga pants, and the tank tops I wear (also from Old Navy) to be so much easier on the pain as they're so much lighter. (Even though I really need to tone up to look good in my tank tops - it's worth it to not have the extra weight of that extra fabric.)

Boy do I agree with that last part. Sometimes I really make myself get up and get showered and even if I don't have enough in me to get street clothes on, only clean pajamas I still feel a lot better. My son is 16. We only have one vehicle so I have to drop him of and pick him up a lot and I feel really guilty if I show up in my pjs. He understands but I hate to embarrass him and a lot of his friends like to talk to me. Guess I was one of those fun moms before I got so bad.
Thank yo uso much for what you have told me though. It really does help me to feel some better. I guess i feel like a lazy, good for nothing slob, but I am really not. I just have to take care of myself in different ways than others do. I have a family member who says its all in my head and I need to get over it. But the rest understand and so do my best friends. It really helps to know your not alone in stuff like this even though you truly hate for anybody else in the world to have to feel this way. God bless you friend.

Yeah, pain is really hard.

I actually put together a list of things to clean in the house in a spreadsheet and would mark off when I got it done.

My goal was to clean the entire house at least once a month. So today I might clean the toilet, tomorrow the kitchen counter, etc. Takes about 5-10 minutes, and it's done, without being overwhelming.

I had to make a list because I would forget that I'd already cleaned one thing and had to do it again.

I also found making lists of things I can do when sitting, thins I can do when I "putz and futz" (which is where I just kind of do whatever without any attachment to outcome - gets a lot done), and things I can do when I'm feeling like I can be more active, was really helpful.

Then instead of forcing myself to do something that was REALLY HARD for me in that moment/day, I could pick something else that also did need doing that maybe I could do with less effort - so I was still getting things done. But I needed a list, because often I'd not be able to think of anything, or just too tough things.

And resting sometimes, staying on the couch all day, can be REALLY REALLY critical - don't diminish that!

I know it's hard to going from active to having difficulty breathing, it does take some adjustment.

So don't beat yourself up for being in too much pain to just get up - pain is our body's way of saying "don't do that".

Honestly this last week I just laid on the couch all week and watched stupid TV. THE BEST THING I could POSSIBLY do. After 4 full days and 2 half days of this I feel a world of better.

Sometimes we need to push ourselves, but sometimes we need rest too.

All that also leads me to MY one thing, which was to get up and take a shower. I even put on regular street clothes instead of my pjs (mostly because they were getting in need of serious washing, but it actually feels pretty good to be clean and in regular clothes).

Thanks SusieQ. I have a best friend who experiences a lot of pain as well. She tells me the same thing. I am kind of new to all of this though and I am so used to getting things done when they are in front of me. My life has taken a 360 turn around. But I like your idea and the lady with the migraines who is going to get up and dance through just one song. Who knows, maybe it will make her feel a little better. Thank you for replying.

Okay, mine is VERY small since I have had a migraine for two days now and can't wait til it goes away to exercise. I vow to dance to at least one song today. I know it sounds like a small thing to do, but once I do the one thing through the pain, I'm hoping I'll continue on and do at least 15-30 minutes of cardio. Have a wonderful Saturday everyone! emoticon

Carrot82--Getting off the couch is not a pathetic goal. "Getting the house clean" sounds rather huge though, on a hurting day. What's realistic? What's manageable? Or, what, if you do it, will at least let you say "I did something!" rather than nothing. Put away 10 items that are laying around? Spend 5 (or 10, or 15--but not much more than that) minutes cleaning a particular area?

What I'm listing are SMALL goals that I sometimes set for myself...because, it's all too easy to set huge goals, and then not do them again (I can do NONE of it!), and feel like a failure. Here we are trying to reduce that. Set a small goal, and then DO IT, and start building success!

JUST FOR TODAY: I will organize my table and desk area by grouping things together, attaching with paper clips...also put notes (who it's for) on the gifts I've purchased. (spend 10 minutes or complete--whichever comes first. if it's done, I can stop before 10 minutes.)

Ok, my first goal is pathetic. I would like to get off the couch and get my house clean. I am hurting today (fibro) and don't want to leave the couch so this goal will be tough.
The goal I plan to succeed at is to drink my 8 glasses of water today.

Today I have to make it through a 10-hour work day WITH A SMILE! and be up and at 'em again nine hours after my shift ends for another eight.

My goal is to eat all the healthful food I pack in my lunch and have fruit when I get home!

Good morning all,

I work up to a neighborhood covered by what appears to be a giant, super thick and fluffy, white down comforter. Snow!

My challenge just for today:
1. 3 hours of course work
2. 45 min of exercise
3. no eating after 9 pm

I was successful yesterday. emoticon

Umm, if I hadn't sat on the couch, reminded myself to fold a shirt, then said "screw it," then I might agree with you. I didn't even bother to say "but you went to the grocery instead." I'm pretty sure that deserves a kick, if only a little one.

Don't let it bother you CINCYDORA. There is a huge difference between procrastination and priority setting. Sometimes life gets in the way of plans. You went with really needed to get done. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact it is a admirable skill.
It is only procrastination when we ourselves get in the way of our plans. That is when we need to reach way back and give ourselves a little kick.
I don't think you deserve one this time - so CUT IT OUT.
That is right. Give yourself a big hug and make up.

Big FAIL for me yesterday. One shirt. That's all i had to do. Fold ONE SHIRT! I got home after grocery shopping and lay like a lump on the couch stuffing my face. Don't know if it's the cold or the lack of exercise (am nursing an injury) or the work stress. Probably all of the above.

I guess it wasn't a total fail. Grocery shopping would have been on the list for today but I had to take care of it yesterday since snow is on the forecast this evening and the city goes crazy when it snows. You should have seen the crowds at the grocery store yesterday! Chaos. And although I skipped the gym to go grocery shopping (hubby was working late and someone needed to let the dogs out), I did get on the exercise bike at home for a few minutes. I still can't exercise as much as I'd like becuase my knee and elbow are hurting.

Oh well. If I can just make it through the weekend without going overboard, I'll start over with the calorie reduction on Monday.

Rejoice that thorns have roses--Ziggy.

It's getting really cold in here, and I've not taken out all the recycling yet, but WOW, does the air smell so much better.

It feels good to breathe, it feels good to BE, without that accumulation of toxic odors.

Oh, and I handled the dirty dishes too - since I could "be naughty" and slip up to the kitchen, I decided far better to just put them in the dishwasher.

Love that!

I want one!

I need to, have to, step out of my grief state and tend things like the trash, recycling, pee bucket, litter box as the smell is overpowering.

After that I'm back to taking it minute by minute.

emoticon Posting here made it easier to not get distracted in the time. Almost didn't make it. Tempted to check email in the middle.

Made a choice to reduce today's clutter--NOT drive mom to her work to be able to have the car for the next few days. it also limits what i can do in the next few days, but i think it's a limitation my heart needs these days. Less running around. Less appointments. More rest and reading.

Have a good day everyone!

CINCYDORA--your goals sound smart to me! Something is better than nothing, and if that something is very small to start with, and the chance of actually doing it goes up, then that is VERY SMART PLANNING in my books! You're doing great! You understand this challenge! Awesome.

JUST FOR TODAY: Spend a solid hour--read Bible, reflect, pray. Maybe i'll use the timer. (oooh...the TV just went on upstairs... ah... noise... okay, i can go to the bedroom...)

I really hate taxes! It is bad enough to pay them - do they have to torture us with paperwork as well?
It is the most stressful thing I have to deal with every year (lucky me, huh?) I am telling myself there is no point in looking at it until I receive all of the documents. Yeah that is it....
Today I will finish the other half of the carpet. I was clever. I pushed all the furniture to one side of each room. Went in late afternoon and got the cleaner. Did the first half. Let it dry overnight. Now I can push all the furniture to the clean half and do the other side.
That is the most procrastination I could get out of a one day rental. Did you know they are $25 now? I guess it has been a while.

Met yesterday's goal of opening the tax docs and actually started completing some of the forms. As a reward, I'm giving myself a break from taxes tonight. My procrastinator's goal is to fold one piece of clean laundry. Hubby washed it but left it all in the baskets.

Yes, I'm aiming low, but that's usually what it takes to motivate myself and once I get started, I'll probably fold more than one item.

Then tomorrow it'll be taxes all over again!

Rejoice that thorns have roses--Ziggy.

Well, I did some of my challenge in my last post. (no email/web until all phone calls made & mail sent) I knocked a few things off the list & did take a laptop break. However, not everything got done, and as usual life piled even more into my "to do" piles today. My challenge today was to run errands & go to prayer group. Did SOME errands but made it to prayer group. I'll give myself partial credit & a bonus point for being honest about it! emoticon

Love reading everyone's posts! It's all about finding something that WORKS for us, isn't it. And if it does, do it! Yep, others might not understand. I hear ya!

Me--you'd think I understood this to be a "Just for today OR tomorrow" challenge. :o/ I didn't do the 10 minutes of cardio yesterday--but I DID do it this morning--actually 15 minutes of "walk at home" with my new video. I LIKE IT! I think this is something that will work. I rarely set aside 50 minutes to exercise, but if I can start by doing 10-15 minutes a couple/few times a week (and THAT is already a huge improvement!) then maybe eventually it will go longer.

Timing my work for an hour at a time worked really well yesterday--helped me not get distracted. I did 5 1 hr cycles. I need to do the same today for some work that needs to get done. Maybe I'll do another 2 or 3 this afternoon.

If I told my plan to my sister (I love her dearly btw) she would say "I don't get it. Why do you have to wait 40 minutes before you wash the dishes?" emoticon
Just for today: I am going to rent a steam cleaner and get these carpets done! That is not a 10 minute task or one that can easily spread out over several days (at $20/day) but I really must get it done.

Wow, what you've described here with the timer and 15 min house work is how I handle my lazy days and generally how I handle chores with my four children on the weekends. That way we have our down time and cleaning time.

It's strange but it works for us. I'm a crazy multi-tasker so...it works for me in so many ways.

Love the last thing you said! I REALLY needed to hear that.

So for me today, I'm not trying to do anything. I "gave at the office", my battery is depleted, my well is dry ... so I'm just recuperating.

At some point I might do something ... but this week it's all about nuturing myself and doing whatever feels right in the moment as opposed to making plans and setting out to achieve anything.

I'm way the heck too worn out and too worn down to do anything.

Sooooooo .... 'rest' is the word of the day!

Lovelifebetter--That's funny! Glad it inspired you, even if I didn't actually do it very well. :o/

And me--inspired by RAIN_SIS's day off plan, I'm going to try to do the reverse for my work today--set a timer for an hour at a time--and try to work steady, no interruptions, for the whole time, then break for 10 or so. I'll let you know how many cycles I do. NOTE: This is not my 'one thing' for today--that is the 10 minutes with the DVD.

Have a good day everyone. It's a day worth living. There is a God who loves us. There is hope. There is ALWAYS hope!
