This past Sept. I tracked in a small notebook when on Vacation. It helped to know the points or calories ahead of time, from similar meals at home. We did a lot of walking so this helped keep of the calories. tracking keeps me honest. Had I not done that I would have surely gained. For me, tracking is the KEY go staying on plan.

I would take pictures, make notes on my phone, see if you can check out the calories of the meals and look for the low calorie choices. I would never expect it to be 100% on a trip.

I have chronic kidney disease and low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years..I am 54 years old. I am on the Fall Challenge ,Firecrackers Team,on P.S.T. I have passed my 5% weight loss goal.My exercise plan is 2400 minutes a month.I do walking, ride the bike at the gym 65 minutes, 3 times a week & go ice skating for 90 minutes 2 times a week for people over 50. My name is Linda.

The hard part for me was it showed that I hadn't checked in and it didn't record my goals as done even though I did record that I had later. I know it isn't the part that counts, but I like knowing I did it. I wish that would change on this program. Maybe I don't know how to add it in right.
Also couldn't get my daily challenges to come up on phone or Ipad when so didn't know what they were.

I look at hotel and restaurant websites, most have menu online. Or I call ahead have them emailed. I can preplan what I will eat and pre-post. Many meetings that have large banquet rooms usually have a preplanned menu and stick to the basic meals each month so I can plan the extra calories in advance. Or, I just tell them I will be bringing my own food with a drs note. Or skip meals all together til I get back to my room.

There may not be control over what is served, there certainly can be control over what is concumed.

Take a guess and log. But, at least weight, record, and note.

There is no bad food, only bad cooks.

"What are the best strategies for tracking your food when you can't get to your computer or phone?"
Paper and pencil

"What do you eat when you are in a situation like this one where there isn't much control over the food you are served?"
Remember portion control, and avoid as many processed foods as possible.

Using a notebook is quick and easy. And believe it or not, if it's on holiday, it's fun to keep and look at later. When my husband and I were first married, whenever we went on a trip, I documented all the restaurants we went to, and what we each ordered in a little "travel notebook" that was small and fit easily in my purse. Even years later, it's fun to look into that little notebook...."Oh remember that restaurant?" So many other memories are brought back, just by looking in that little notebook.

Thanks for the ideas. At these meetings, we are not allowed to have cellphones or computers except at breaks. I think I will keep a small notebook and write down all the foods. That way, I can track them after the meeting.

I am going to be on vacation in three weeks, I am going to do the same thing. I'll write it all down and then put it on SparkPeople later.

Since my phone is always with me, I can't think of a time when I couldn't track. But if there is no service (which happens) I make sure to write it down and then track when get back to service area.

WALKIN4JEANIE some people take photos of their plate first. Also just be careful not to give yourself permission to eat whatever. E,ample: donuts at the coffee break. Keep a protein bar or two in your purse when temptation calls.

We'll be leaving soon for a summer campground where there is no WiFi. I don't want to use all my data on my phone, so I've got a spiral notebook and Calorie King book from Amazon. I might try to enter it online from time to time when I get to a WiFi spot just to see how I'm doing. I will miss knowing the nutrient breakdown.

After a 3 month vacation last summer I gained 9 lbs. It will NOT happen again.
