For the most part I like HEB Branded items especially the prepared foods. I did not like the HEB soda or "doritos". My sister did not like the coffee.

I buy a *lot* of store brands, and find them not only as good as, but in many cases *better* than name brands.

The WalMart Great Value™ brand is good. I think probably NOBODY makes better strawberry preserves than our regional Publix™ supermarkets. Not that I can eat that anymore! Publix™ and Winn-Dixie™ both have some good store brands. I buy almond milk, and W/D is marketing their own now for about 50¢ less per carton than any of the other name brands (even with a coupon).

Usually I'll try a small container of a store brand first, and if we like it we switch. In most cases those items are cheaper at their regular price than the name brands with coupon savings. There have been occasions when I didn't like the store brand, but it's been rare. I probably wouldn't try to return a sample - it's not worth the bother to me. I just don't buy it again. But I'm sure the store wouldn't quibble about it if I did bring it back.

In lots of cases, I'm cooking with a product. In those situations, since I'm not tasting the "pure" product, I'm less finicky about the flavor. Store brand ketchup in my meatloaf? sure. Heinz™ only on my burgers!

I use a lot of store brand products. Most stores have a guarantee, that if you don't like their product, you can get your money back.

Most of the time I buy store brand products, and am usually pleased with them. I like Safeway's crackers, pasta, lunchmeat, juice, soups for cooking and soda. The exceptions are: my kids will only eat Kraft Mac & Cheese and I've been disappointed in store brand cereals. Costco is good for paper towels, and toilet paper.

I tried a name brand albacore tuna today that doesn't taste nearly as good as the Great Value brand of the same type tuna at Walmart. I was pleasantly surprised to learn this.

Have you found this to be true of other less expensive products? I'm interested in saving money!
