I've decided to do the weight loss thing at home. It certainly is worth my time and effort.

Check into transit services for the disabled (or the elderly if you're old enough.) Your county health department or nearest public hospital probably has some sort of van service. My grandmother was in an accident and broke her wrist, and she qualified for a service where a van came and got her to take her to the mall, a senior center, the library, or just about any public place until she healed. Even though it wasn't a permanent disability, there was no charge. She even made a bunch of friends, so she kept using the van even when she could drive again.

Also, call the leader of the WW meeting you would go to and ask if there's a discount or even free membership for people with low income or disabilities. A lot of companies do that kind of thing, but they don't always publicize it-- you have to ask.

You can do WW online. I think WW's strength is in the weigh-ins and the personal support myself. The diet works.

I have seen people at WW in wheel chairs - and you don't HAVE to go to meetings if you don't want to. I don't know the current cost but I sometimes just use the old slide rule thingy and do WW pre-Points Plus days, when it was just Points. You don't get the free veg and fruit, but it is heavy on those things anyway. If you can get (online, maybe at ebay) the old WW slide rule thingy and a book, you can do it that way too.

Then there's the Spark People WW support group, too...

I have no idea what the expense is for commercial weight-loss plans. If you know the program, I don't see any reason you can't continue to follow it. I haven't looked, but I'm sure there's a Spark team for WW - you might be able to get some support there.

So far as the powerchair - you can't impress me with that! LOL I've been the same way since I started my weight loss journey, and you can see from my ticker that my inability to exercise hasn't thwarted that a bit. Exercise is great for your cardiovascular system, and for toning... but it hasn't been shown (despite common impressions to the contrary) to be an effective weight loss tool. Don't fret.

In my case, my husband and I were put on a prescription low carb/Primal diet. DH is diabetic; I just need to lose weight. Our endocrinologist calls me "metabolically deranged"! LOL I had a really miserable case of leaky gut in the beginning, and that's mostly resolved now on this diet. I'm feeling better too, despite struggling with an autoimmune condition. My husband has been able to cut out any oral meds, and he only takes insulin now *if* his BG readings indicate he needs it. That's not often anymore.

For another person who has done marvelous things with his health (diabetes and CHF) on a low carb diet, search for RUSSELL_40. He's very informative and inspiring. There are a couple of others here who have done very well also. You can find them in the Atkins, Smart Carbing, and other low-carb forums.

If you really want to go to your meetings, perhaps there are others nearby who also go? could you carpool with them? Otherwise, so far as weigh-ins and general support, you can probably do an adequate job here on SP.... search for the team! And do consider the LC lifestyle. It might work for you, too

I like weight Watchers and have been successful with it.I want to go to the meetings but don't drive anymore. What is the cost now. I follow the points diet at home but I'm not getting anywhere.I can't exercise because I am in a power chair.
