Dannon is my favorite brand of Greek yogurt right now, especially the cherry flavored one.

I'll just come right out and say it-- I do not like greek yogurt. Yes I know it's the latest, biggest craze and lots of people eat it. But it's more expensive (a quart of regular costs around $2 here, and a quart of greek is $5 or more) and the manufacturing process creates more waste, which is a big concern for me. Plus I don't like the taste. Greek has more protein, but regular has more calcium... and in looking at my Nutrition Tracker, I need the calcium more than I need the protein, since there are plenty of other protein foods I like to eat. I'll stick with my low fat low carb vanilla (or plain, and dress it up with my own flavorings and fruit) regular yogurt and enjoy every single bite.

I suppose if I was going to cook with it, I might use greek, as it holds up better to heat. But I'm not cooking with it. I don't use yogurt as a sour cream substitute, because I don't like sour cream either.

Bottom line... if you don't like it, don't eat it.

FAGE plain Greek Yogurt - Total 0 (high protein, no fat, low carbs)
*Protein -23 grams per cup
*Fat - 0
*Carbs - 9 grams per cup

I make dozens of jars of freezer jam with fresh strawberries (in season) and also peaches (in season) and I add two tsps to one cup of my yogurt every day for lunch. I also make a peanut butter granola that's great added to yogurt.

I like Zoi brand the best.

I have noticed that the nutrition varies wildly with Greek yogurts, so be sure to read labels. Another thing to be aware of is that vanilla flavor can have as many as 20G more carbs per serving than plain. Yikes!

I like the plain, nonfat, Fage (I think it's less tangy and is of a firmer, more creamy, consistency than the Chobani). But, I can't eat plain Greek Yogurt (or regular yogurt for that matter) unless it's being used as a sour cream substitute on, for example, a baked potato. Otherwise, I add a little Splenda and/or some honey to sweeten it. You can also add lots of other things. Crushed pineapple plus a little Splenda is another combo that I like. No need to pay a premium for a tiny container with honey on the side or a little pineapple on the bottom when you can buy a less expensive larger container of the plain and add your own stuff.

Try it a few ways. If you find you really don't like it, I say life's too short to force yourself to eat something you think is icky.

I've loved yogurt since I was a kid. Plain yogurt, though, did not until I got older.

I buy the cheapest one I can find, unless I have a coupon for a new brand.

I use it in place of sour cream.

Yoghurt made from a dry powder mix.
* Hansells Thick and creamy natural greek yoghurt is my current favourite.
It makes a very thick and creamy yoghurt. (especially when I replace some of the water with skim milk)
* Easiyo Unsweetened greek yoghurt mix is good too.

For a pre-made yoghurt, I recommend Black swan Breakfast greek yoghurt.

And my few attempts of making greek yoghurt from just UHT milk and natural yoghurt, were moderately successful.

Be careful about some brands of yogurt, I found the low fat/ fat free to be high in sugar, the fruit in them contains natural sugar plus many add artificial sweetners, others are overprocessed and have a blended pudding/gelatin type texture.. Greek is on the borderline when it comes to sugars-lite still contain artificial sweeteners. I prefer to buy Plain regular unflavored yogurt and add some berries. Everyone has a personal preferance though when it come to taste and texture, so keep trying until you find a yogurt that you like.

I like the Oikos Greek Yogurt. I get the vanilla and to me it tastes like cheesecake.

I agree with others. If you don't like it, don't make yourself eat it. Then eating healthy will be torture. I don't like cottage cheese and yet some love it. That is just fine they can have mine.

I didn't really like plain Greek yogurt plain until one day when I was really hungry and, while using 1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt in a recipe, I impulsively ate the rest of the cup. Yum! Nothing like a little calorie deprivation to suddenly make something taste good, LOL. It's one of the interesting things I've noticed about weight loss -- when you're restricting your calories, the foods you do eat are way more tasty than they were when you ate mindlessly without really being hungry.

LADYSTARWIND, I must not be a purist, because I also like Danon Lite & Fit 80-calorie yogurts. I've found that's about the lowest-calorie cup of Greek yogurt on the shelf in my grocery stores. I love that pineapple-coconut one.

I love Fage. I either get the kind that has the flavoring stuff in a separate little section, so I can just add as much as I want (I never use all of it) or I get it plain and add my own homemade jam and some fruit. (I also didn't used to like Greek yogurt at all, but love it now and definitely prefer it to regular.)

I also did not like Greek yogurt, but have transitioned to it. I started by using plain in smoothies and in place of sour cream (and mayo) in many dishes and went from there. I pretty much like all brands now, except Chobani. It gives me kind of an aftertaste, though many people like it. Personal favorite? Dannon Light & Fit Toasted Coconut. Yum (but sugary, if that's a concern for you). Fage is my favorite plain, but I often buy the store brand.

However, there's really no reason to transition to Greek if you like the other stuff. I just like the higher protein content and the ability to use the plain as a substitute.

I agree with CALLMECARRIE, that is the nature of greek yogurt to have a stronger flavor than regular yogurt. As far as brands go, I think Fage is pretty good, with a fairly strong flavor and chobani is decent, less strong. I usually buy plain as I feel the flavored ones are disgustingly sweet. I often pick more buy price or whim, though, as they are fairly similar tp me and I flavor myself.

If you have the opportunity and the funds, and a whole foods, they have a couple of sheep yogurts, the taste is, in my opinion, less pungent than cows milk, but still has the yogurt sourness to it.

My favorite though is from a local shop to me that makes heavily strained sheepsmilk greek yogurt, SO good, but it's more like the texture of labne, very thick.

I think any plain Greek yogurt is going to have that sourness that you find objectionable, but you can learn to like it if you think it's worth it. It's easy to sweeten your own plain yogurt with Splenda, stevia, honey, or any fruit. (I add packets of Crystal Light raspberry or strawberry lemonade once in awhile - one packet sweetens about 2 cups of yogurt.) Once you find a sweetness level you like that way, gradually lessen the amount of sweetener you add and you'll eventually like plain Greek yogurt. You don't have to do it that way, but I think it is an acquired taste. Once you acquire it, it's delicious and you don't need pre-sweetened yogurt.

I've tried several brands and like almost all. I like plain yogurt the best (last one I bought was a store brand - maybe Great Value?), and added honey to it. It was awesome.

Some people just don't like it. My husband HATES Greek yogurt....he just can't get past the twang :)

The store brand (Harris Teeter, in my case) is proper greek yogurt with nothing other than milk and cultures. So I get the plain and add a dab of honey and lots of fruit like strawberries and raspberries. Tangy and sweet all in one bite.

I agree Fage 0% plain Greek yogurt with the honey cup is delicious.

Also you can add walnuts or almonds and berries to plain yogurt...get crunch with the fresh or frozen berry sweetness. Not as much sugar or chemicals as the ones that have fruit already added to them.

I just have not liked the taste of greek yogurt. It tastes too bitter to me.

I like Yoplait light yogurts, but the Greek types I have tried have been not as good.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
