The weekend is always the most difficult time for me to stick to my weight loss plans. Something about the long work week gets me hungry for unhealthy foods on Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

Sometimes I happen to have a really great day and have eaten so many veggies that my calorie intake registers at the lowest of the range. I have extra calories that I am allowed to consume. So when I have three of those days, YES! I treat myself to a YASSO FUDGE BAR. It has 7 grams of protein, under 13 grams of sugar, and at 100 calories - it is my treat. Otherwise, if I want a "treat" - I make a strawberry banana sorbet in my Vitamix and snack on 1/2C. On Holidays (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day), I will treat myself with a burger and never look back.

I do, it helps me stay on track a little sweet something. Having a little cheat day. Even if its a piece of cake with my coffee in the morning. I tried once to cut the junk food and ended up falling off the wagon. So every once in a while a trip to get burger and fries and a shake.

Yes, maybe that's my problem...I eat/drink treats more often than I probably should and typically go over my calorie goal. It's just so hard to say NO sometimes!

I truly believe that the Spark philosophy is one of lifestyle change and making choices that will work for a lifetime. I have found that for me it works to not have any food item that is on the you can not have list except for items that I am allergic too or for whatever reason my body does not do well with. So when you ask if I eat treats my response is...yes...any food item that fits in with my daily calorie and fat range for the day is allowed. I have as a life long goal...the word BALANCE...finding that and changing for the long run to an ongoing life with healthy choices as my priority works for me.

I usually "save" my treats for a weekly special meal -- which often lands on the weekend. Knowing I get to have a treat once in a while helps me to say "no" most of the time. Just have to be careful not to let them become more than "occasional" treats. Or to turn the weekend into a bad-food fest.

Some years back I heard of a great system which I use, when wanting foods you need to avoid tell yourself "I won't have this today",keep repeating this each time you are tempted, decide when you may have this, example: I have chips July 4th, eat the whole bag if I want. First year I could hardly wait, ate whole bag, next year they were less desirable,3rd year I forgot to buy them. Chips are not a problem to me now. I am very picky about deserts, would never buy store bought sweets as my Mom always baked from scratch. I am a great baker but have a list of people that love to get my cakes etc after I take two slices for myself. I do not bake unless I have someone to give it to, also if it tempts me I do not buy it or take it home from any source. It was a lot harder when I was younger. Now it is more important to be able to walk my 2 miles daily, mow my yard with push mower, clean out flower beds, etc than eat foods that put weight on me. Good luck to you all, keep the faith.

The problem is I over treat myself, my goal is to slowly work my way down to not eating treats as often. I noticed that in the past when I go cold turkey I have the tendency to relapse and go on a binge.

I read somewhere that one of the top 5 rules that successful dieters stick by is to not cheat. With that being said. I'm terrible at following this rule. I've tried Adkins and Dukan and get so tired of meat that I binge on ice cream with chocolate sauce. I have a "cheat" concoction that I allow myself once a day. I make it on Monday and allow myself 1/4 to 1/2 cup a day.

1 pkg. rice cracker treats (the small different shaped rice cracker treats)
1 small pkg. M&M's
1 small Jar low salt roasted peanuts.

I mix it all together and then my OCD kicks in and I eat (one at a time) all the crackers first, then the peanuts, then separate colors of M&M's. It's silly and it takes a long time to eat and keeps me busy.

Never give up; never surrender!

I too have a problem with CAKE!! I've decided to eat it on birthdays. With mine, my husband's , two sons ,two daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren...wait...way too much cake! Maybe once a month would be better. My problem is one piece leads to not eating more but that horrible wanting more. I went six months without it last year and when I finally had it, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Next...the DONUT will be conquered!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've said it before and I'll say it again...I diet to LIVE, not Live to DIET! If a particular "eating plan" makes me miserable I know I won't stick with it. Also, I usually have lunch with a group of friends on Saturday, so yeah I eat "treats" pretty much every day. However, I am TRYING to learn to be more reasonable on those Saturday outings. For instance, if they want mexican food then great, but lay off the chips and queso prior to the meal, and ask for a to-go box. I don't have to eat the whole thing in one sitting. Also, I am trying to have smaller "treats," like 1 or 2 squares of Dove Chocolate (about 44 cal. each) instead of a brownie or candy bar. And I still have a ways to go with this - I haven't figured out how to resist/limit/deal with people who bring baked goodies to the office. This guy that works downstairs will occasionally make batches of chocolate chip cookies, and I just can't seem to say "no" to that. Maybe just 1/2 a cookie next time?

I do...I miss it so much that if I don't let myself have regular small treats then I end up binging and eating a whole bag of chips or box of cookies etc. I tell myself "look! you get to eat chocolate and brownies and chips if you want to - and if you only take small bits then it will last way longer and i can have it again tomorrow and later in the week."

No, but I allow myself a glass of wine for weekend "date night". Since this is a way of life, not a diet for me, I don't want to get into the mindset of "on days" to eat healthy and "off days" to treat my body like a garbage can.

No.

First, every day is the same: I want to lose this weight, and not just on weekdays.

Second, there is no category I recognize as "treats". The great part about counting calories is that you pretty quickly figure out that a big tossed salad or a bowl of fresh fruit, yogurt, and honey are wonderful, and that having a cookie for the same calories just isn't worth it. I can have any food I want within my calorie limit. Eating junk just guarantees I will go to bed hungry and grouchy.

Third, what most people mean by treats is "sugar-loaded, fat-filled, calorie-dense and nutritionally void junk." No thanks. I have this one, chubby body. If there is going to be too much of it, I don't want it to be because I filled it with poison. I see that stuff, I see dreck, not treats.

Finally, I'm using sugar- and flour-avoidance (not "free", but close) as the foundation for my food choices. It makes the calorie-avoidance so much easier. Plus, sugar is addictive. If you truly totally eliminate sugar from your diet for a month, eating it will make you feel sick. Try it. Then take the hint from your body.

Yeah, and then I get so pissed off at myself every Monday morning when I weigh in! You'd think I'd learn, but, I do EXTREMELY well M-F, work out hard, so it kinda evens out, just the scale of course, doesn't move very fast! :(

I've just gotten serious out my weight loss again. A treat to me would be chocolate, cookies, cake, etc. I've realized that this kind of "treat" is like a drug to my system. Once I start eating them I simply can't stop. So I've taken these out of my diet completely and while I miss them terribly I realize my only chance for loosing this weight will be to not have any period.

I believe in treating myself each day in controlled portions so that I do not binge on weekends. When I make baked goods they are individual sized, with no sugar, using healthy foods such as banana to sweeten. Avocado is a great in these treats too. On days that I do not bake, I usually have a controlled portion of high quality ice cream or a popsicle.

If I get a chance I bake up some black bean brownies, or vegan gluten green chocolate chip cookies, might bake up a vegan gluten free cake, but mostly its the brownies that are my go to make up on weekends.

I struggle on the weekend mainly because we go camping. There is always beer and food camping. I limit myself to 1 maybe 2 beers but it is much easier to give In to cravings after having the beer so I just need to say NO. Crystal Light margarita flavor is a wonderful substitute! I love it! And sometimes I have a diet pop which I do not have during the week.

I make my own ice creams with flax seed meal in them. Today I put together a batch with bananas, strawberries, mango and orange together with the flax and some greek yogurt and put it in the freezer for my husband and me for later. Kinda good if I do say so myself. emoticon

Life would be much more upbeat if there was just background music no matter when or where you were doing things.

Weekends are not different then weekdays for me when it comes to what I eat or don't eat - treats are a daily thing because what I call a treat other's don't.

I'll treat myself with a morning cup of coffee with real sugar instead of agava syrup

I'll treat myself with a spoonful of 100% dark coco added to warm soy milk, double extra treat is adding it to the coffee for that caffeine kick.

I'll treat myself with having a Gluten Free Breton cracker and what ever cashew butter I've got left (I make my own) or home made hummus

I'll treat myself with… various things because every thing I eat I am happy that I can have because there are just to many things out there that I can not have do to allergies or because of medical issues that I've come to the conclusion that everything is a treat in its own fashion because it can get taken away at any time and you have to learn to live without it if you wish to continue living or improve your health.

Wow...A lot of us are really in the same boat! I have had countless weekend weight gains from a focused weight loss week. Yet I still muster the motivation to resume it all...but sometimes it is hard to get going again! As I face yet another weekend, I think this weekend I will work to NOT gain back the few pounds I have dropped, but just HOLD THE LINE. At least that way Monday morning I can resume my program from where I seemingly left off! I think I will also PREPLAN my food for the entire day, hoping that will be a helpful choice...and then FOLLOW IT,

Some weekends I do. If so the type varies depending on my mood. I just make sure that I keep in mind of all the hard work that is required to maintain a good body weight and this motivates me not to binge.

Just because I don't 'look' like a runner, doesn't mean that I am not one! Don't judge me...that is all:)

I use to always eat treats at the weekend. Then it became a problem as sometimes there would be no treat in the house and then I would think, but its the weekend I best go to the shop and get something. So I would, and then just overeat, justifying by saying it was the weekend!
Now, im a bit more savvy and if I want a treat any day of the week I just have it. It then truly is a treat.

You must think of yourself as becoming the person you want to be -

That one was the toughest of all for me. I am proud to say that I have gone from "OFF weekends"- to "OFF day" to "OFF meal" (1 - one - uno)! I guess as I weened myself off I realized, what is this all about? The "good" stuff is really good! And the "bad" stuff is not worth it! I do recognize the struggle, but it came to the point where my mind overpowered my want and became will to choose healthier and feel it. Cuz once it hits the lips....whoop!

i have learned NOT TO EXHALT any foods in any way as it makes it loom so large for me. like i am panting for the week to go by so friday night or sat arrives to have pizza, or chocolate.
now , i just work into my daily schedule what i look forward to having. it makes it pleasant and much less important.
like today - i made low carb peanut butter cookies. they are the size of a small apricot- and i have three. it is enough to 'treat me'.
i also make a real bran muffin - i know all that is in it - i have one for breakfast in the morning with no sugar orange marmalade.
anyway - i think after so many years of deprivation, waiting, denying myself etc. this is much much better for me.

I have found that if I don't have a treat day, once a week. Then I have no weight loo

This weekend was especially rough on "treats". We went to a wedding and I couldn't resist the cake and the cookies. Oh well, back on track today.

Sometimes. I try not to give my treats on any particulaf day though. I find it much too easy to take advantage and the treat becomes a binge.

I'm big enough yet that I have a pre-planned treat every night, even if it's as simple as jello. That alone tells me that I had a good day.

I don't know if I'd call it "treats" but I do eat differently on the weekend, just because during the week is so busy I've prepared set meals for the entire week so I don't have to think about what to eat or be tempted to eat a snack that is unhealthy because I'm famished. On the weekend, life is less structured so eating is as well, still pretty healthy though, not many treats.

I tend to be a 50/50 but then again I do not deny myself anything during the week...if i want the chocolate bar i have it, the greasy burger from mcdonalds...i'll have it...mind you I find that the more healthier choices I make the less I actually want the "treats" The treats have become slowly the healthier stuff such as strawberries with a bit of whip cream or a banana with vanilla ice cream...it is pretty neat all the things we don't consider treats

It usually happens that I eat more "treats" on the weekends just because I am home more or out with family and friends. During the week I am too busy, but on occasion a craving occurs and I grab a little extra. The good news is that the more I eat healthy and the less treats I buy at the store the less extras I eat. Once I get to the point of eating well and breaking the treat/sugar habit I don't have many or any cravings. Yes, there was a time when my husband could eat a bowl of ice cream right next to me and I would not even crave a bite! After a couple of years of stress and junk eating I am slowly working my way back to the way I felt then.

I understand this pattern. When I have wine ,I sometimes want a snack and then that adds up too. My plan is to have two glasses on Friday night. I am going to try to include the calories into the day if I can. I appreciate that you shared this. I needed to see that I was not alone. Now all I have to do is work my plan. emoticon

I am just starting again after gaining back 13 lbs. Tracking works because you can see what a splurge costs. It has taken me three days and I still haven't recovered from Friday night's splurge. (binge) I think it will take two more days to break even. It is counterproductive to over do it even one night a week. My new plan is to plan more good tasting low cal, healthy foods into every day so I can have a favorite thing that fits into my plan every day. I have done it before so I know I can do it. Exercise helps me want the right things.

I have been allowing myself too much of a treat with my wine consumption on the weekend. I really need to get a better handle on it because it is really affecting my weight loss efforts. I am going to try really hard to limit this to just two glasses on Saturday night. What it is working out to be is two glasses on Friday night, Saturday night and then on Sunday...way, way too much for me.

Yes, I eat too many treats on the weekend. I need to reprogram my brain to see them as something special, occasional, a true "treat." Unfortunately, they've become a part of my daily diet, and I'm not sure how to stop.

I try not to specify one day in particular where I eat treats. If you say I'll only eat treats on the weekend, you ma end up wanting them more during the week. If I want a treat I'll have a treat, but I'll opt for a diet friendly one. Here I can get a Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Sandwich for only 80cals. Magic!

No. I try to eat the same all week, just like sleeping. However, if I really feel the need for a treat, I have one, no matter what day.

Sometimes I go out and have treat meals on the weekends, but I keep them pretty moderate. And if it's at all possible to still stay in my calorie range, I will do so. I went out for dinner with friends tonight and still managed to stay within my allotted range for the day.

I don't have special treat days. There aren't many things that I totally try to avoid. I just use moderation and keep an eye on the amount of calories I'm eating.

I have a big sweet tooth, so I eat a small dessert most days. But I try to keep it at less than 200 calories. I'll eat a couple pieces of candy, or a cookie. I try to avoid eating bigger, higher-calorie treats very often, but I enjoy them occasionally. The type of thing I consider a special treat isn't something I would want to eat every single week. For example, sometimes I enjoy getting sugary pancakes for dinner at IHOP. Doing that every week would feel like too much to me, but as it is, it's something I do every couple months at most, and I don't worry about occasional stuff like that.

Definitely on the weekend. My favorite treat is a mini fillo shell filled with a slice of banana and strawberry. The treat part is a drizzle of chocolate syrup. If I do indulge in a treat during the week, I'll take a two to three bit size amount to enjoy and savor the taste.

My biggest temptation is desserts. I allow myself small treats all week long (usually 100 calories or less, from items that don't tempt me to go overboard, like hard candies, ginger snaps, or fruit Popsicle) I indulge in a bigger treat if I have burned a lot of calories through a long hike or other physical activity; that usually occurs on the weekend. (I get the bigger treat at a coffee shop or bakery, single serving, so I am not tempted to eat a whole cake or whole container of ice cream!)

I try not to be "on" or "off" my eating plan; if I want something indulgent I will find a way to work it in--either by having a very limited portion, lightening up on other choices throughout the day or adding some cardio to offset some or all of the calories. Obviously, I often use a combination of these strategies, but this is why I know that I'll have long-term success this time (unlike my attitude during previous diets where I lost then regained weight quickly). There's no "light at the end of the tunnel"; if you're not enjoying your journey to healthfulness it isn't nearly as likely to become a way of life.
Having said all that, there's NO one-size-fits-all solution. If having treats on the weekend works for you and you can control it, there's no reason not to!

I eat "treats" every day if I feel like it. I don't think I could have lost the weight or maintained for 4+ years if I felt deprived.

I no longer eat the WHOLE cake or dive into the container of ice cream.
I read labels to decide which is a better treat.
I've added fresh fruit to my "treat" category.

So far, so good.

The race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running.
