You've already got some good suggestions here.
Get the bigger straws at an inexpensive store, like Dollar Tree.
Use a pipe cleaner to scrub the inside.
Rinse the things as soon as possible after using them.
Also - and I know some people cringe at this - a combination of a very mild solution of regular bleach and Dawn™ dish detergent is an excellent cleaner. The bleach should be no more than a 5% solution. Restaurants use bleach solutions for cleaning all the time, and it's never hurt anyone so far (that I've ever heard). My husband cleans his CPAP tubing with it. I worked in clinical labs for nearly 30 years, and bleach solutions are the primary disinfectants for surfaces there. Naturally, you don't want to use the stuff right from the bottle! (and it's less effective that way, paradoxically) Just make up a quart bottle of water with a few drops of Dawn™ and a capful of bleach, and scrub that inside your straw with the pipecleaner. You could immerse the straw in there and let it soak, too. Rinse it well and let it air dry. Not only clean, but disinfected, too!
...the problem with people these days is
they've forgotten we're really just animals ...
We did not create the web of life; we are but a strand in it.
We don't have souls. We ARE souls. We have bodies.
