I thicken all soups and sauces with cornstarch, instead of a roux. This leaves out all that butter, and cornstarch only requires half as much as flour to thicken, making it less starchy.

I use the Vegetti a few times a week, it really feels like I am eating pasta. I don't get as stuffed, and don't gain the weight I do with pasta. I only use it for zucchini, and I make a huge plate of one spiraled zucchini, and two servings of Normandy vegetables (broc/carrot/cauliflower-from costco), I steam it, pour 1 cup White Linen Marinara sauce over the top and sprinkle with a table spoon of Parmesan cheese. It feels gourmet for about 225 calories, very filling for dinner, full of fiber and nutrition. Love the Vegetti--a must for dieters who love pasta.

Ruby Tuesday's smashed cauliflower instead of potatoes- wish they'd put that back on the menu, but the recipe is in one of the "restaurant secrets" cookbooks. In general I eat more protein and veggies, less bread. Weight Watchers frozen treats instead of DQ. I skip putting cheese on a hamburger and add more tomato, lettuce and one of my favs, fried onions. When I make chocolate chip cookies, I cut both the white and brown sugar by a quarter cup and focus on using dark chocolate chips.

LET'S DO THIS!

applesauce, banana, or baby food fruit to replace butter in baked goods. i do this more for my kids than myself. (I made them homemade donuts, brownies, cookies). I also like to use garbanzo beans or black beans in place of some flour in baked goods as well. i also like stevia in place of sugar for myself. yogurt in place of sour cream, water in place of oil in "frying" veggies, etc. I guess i poach food as opposed to fry it sometimes.

my kids have allergies and food issues, so i have learned to replace most everything...more obvious things are almond milk, gf flours, etc.

oh and spaghetti squash for spaghetti...there are so many replacements.

I just received one last week for my birthday! I tried it out yesterday, and while it isn't the easiest thing in the world, it works well. I got the Veggetti (I guess it's an "as seen on TV" item). I tried zucchini and carrots, and the zucchini worked out better than the carrots. Give it a shot!

Has anyone used a vegetable spiralizer? I would like to use vegetables in place of pasta noodles (finding it kinda hard to give up pastas). I would like to know if they actually work before investing in one. Also what brand is best?

My substitution for a Mexican meal out is a fiber one tortilla with a quarter cup of vegetarian re-fried beans and a quarter cup of shredded cheese cooked inside for a delicious quesadilla. I dip it in a little fat free sour cream and salsa. It's delicious and less than 300 calories.

Just keep going...

Powdered peanut butter is available in many grocery stores, usually in the health food section.

One brand of it is PB2.

It is very good, and versatile. For instance, you can mix it into smoothies or yogurt and is much less messy. Also, you can take a banana, dip it in yogurt, then dip it in PB2 powder. Yum!

I have never heard of peanut butter powder - how is it used? I get that you can add it to Greek yogurt? Where is it in the stores?

Hellman's light instead of regular. I've also recentlystarted drinking Lactaid milk rather than regular skim as I have lactose intolerance. It tastes exactly the same as skim, and as a tiny bonus also has ten fewer calories.

Helman's lowfat mayo in place of full fat. I can't tell the difference.

Sugar free hot chocolate, or reduce sugar, in place of the regular. It's still great!
