Yes, I do have a crock pot. I absolutely love it, and if I can find a place to use it, I will definitely be putting it to use. (I'm staying in someone else's basement right now while my house is being remodeled, and am very limited on space and outlets!) Thank you both for your advice!
If you do a search in amazon.com for the type of cookbook that would suit your situation, you can use the search argument, 'no wheat no dairy.' The very first book that came up when I did that was 'No Wheat, No Dairy, No Problem!'
There are more titles when you use the search argument 'no wheat no dairy diet.'
There may be other books that have more options so perhaps a search for 'allergy diet' would work as well.
For the lactose intolerance, I suggest that you purchase the enzyme pill (lactaid) that you take when you have milk, cheese, yogurt. The enzyme will digest the lactose (milk sugar) and you should be fine.
I am not sure what you mean by gluten intolerance---I assume you do not have celiac disease?? Meeting with a Registered Dietitian in your area for education will help greatly.
When dining out---go for lean meats, plant protein, fruits, veggies, salads, rice, soups without pasta. An example might be: Large salad topped with grilled chicken Roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, fruit cup Chicken stir-fry over rice Eggplant parmesan (no breading on eggplant) Vegetable soup with cottage cheese or tuna salad Grilled pork chop, sweet potato, salad Salmon, rice pilaf, steamed veggies Vegetarian chili
Hope this helps-- Becky your SP Registered Dietitian
Hello! I am seeking tips and advice from others who may have been through my situation before. I need to cut out (for the most part) dairy and wheat products in order to get my digestive issues under control. This is going to be very difficult for me, as all of my favorite foods contain one or both! (Baked macaroni and cheese, pizza, ice cream, etc.) To further complicate things, I do not have a kitchen to cook in right now.
Can anyone with lactose and/or gluten intolerances provide any advice on where to find ready-made or easy to prepare foods, how to order when eating out (which we do frequently), or any other tips and tricks on avoiding the foods that I love?
