The production of ketones (for most people), including those with blood sugar control issues, pre-diabetes, and diabetes is a condition that one should try to avoid. This is the recommendation by the American Diabetes Association.

ALIUHOHS - Ketones aren't dangerous. They are the result of breaking down fat. There is a difference between ketosis, and keto-acidosis.

CurlyQ - Good idea to see a doctor if you have any questions. You want to eat the proper amount of calories, but we aren't supposed to eat when we are hungry . We are supposed to eat when the next meal is scheduled.

I had the same problem when I started low carb. I was waiting to " get hungry ", and it never happened. I just switched to 5-6 small meals a day, and in a few weeks I was used to eating bigger meals, despite not being hungry. Now I am back to 3-4 meals. You need to correct the problem, so that you can eat the right amount of calories, and this may be a dose change, but not being hungry means that you can now control calories, and reach goals that aren't possible when you eat when you are hungry. That leads to overeating. You should never be hungry, if you eat every 8 hours or so.

Hopefully you can correct the dose/med, and eat in your calorie range, while still not being hungry.

I wouldn't worry about going under your calorie range as long as your BG levels stay above 70.

I do have an appointment with a nutritionist on Monday. I was just looking for some feedback from someone else who may have dealt with this, not professional advice. Low blood sugars are NEVER my problem. Even with eating very little, I haven't had a low. Thanks for your replies.

You need to be having this discussion with either your doctor or your diabetes educator. Appropriate food and carbohydrate intake is very important for good blood sugar control. Call the health professional to determine the appropriate action to take.

Being that you have diabetes, it's incredibly important to make sure you're eating enough throughout the day to keep your blood sugar stabilized. Not eating enough could lead to your blood sugar dropping too low and your body creating keytones which can be very dangerous. Maybe talk to your doctor about lowering the strength of your Victoza or see a dietician who can help you figure out how to meal plan so that you're hungry and eating throughout the day to keep your body fueled.

I recently started a new med for my Type 2 Diabetes called Victoza. I have absolutely NO appetite whatsoever. I am doing good to choke down 800 calories per day and I am a BIG woman - over 300 lbs. I love the fact that I'm not hungry all the time and my cravings are nearly gone. When I do get one, I can face it with a much clearer head.

However, I've read that eating too few calories slows down metabolism and isn't good for you. I'm not sure what to do. I really don't want to eat when I'm not hungry, but I don't want to harm my body either. I would like to get rid of significant poundage quickly, but not at the expense of my health in the long run.

Any advice?
