So I bought Post Frosted Shredded Wheat cereal... they are deffinitely wheaty, but yummy! I have not tried them with milk yet, but they make a great dry snack!

Smoothies are the greatest things in my mind. I make one right before I leave for work everyday. I have the nutribullet which is super quick and easy to use as well as a super quick and easy clean up. You also blend in cups that you can use as your smoothie to go cup. It blends extremely fast. For example, this morning I put in fresh strawberries, 1 banana, some kale, and water and it blended in 20 seconds. There are so many kinds of smoothies you can make, which is also what makes them so amazing. I get frozen strawberries, blueberries, and mangos and then always make sure to have fresh bananas. Once in a while I'll buy some fresh fruit like strawberries or something to use.

I usually bring my smoothie to work along with a packet of plain oatmeal. I pack walnuts in a baggie and brown sugar in a small Tupperware container. There's a container of cinnamon at work already but I also use that. I sprinkle just a few pinches of the brown sugar, throw in as many walnuts as I feel like having that day and sprinkle some cinnamon on top as well. Forgot to mention that my work has a microwave so I'm able to cook the oatmeal there! Hopefully you have one because it's a great healthy meal as well as filling and good tasting!

i just started the refrigerator oatmeal last week and love it. mine has 1/4 cup old fashioned oats, 1/2 cup lactaid milk, 1/2 cup chopped strawberries, 1/2 med banana, sliced, 2 t. flax seed, 1 1/2 t. sugar, and a good sprinkle of cinnamon. after i put the lid on the container i shook it up and put it in the fridge. breakfast at work the next day, perfect. once i left out the sugar and cinnamon and added nutella. that was worth every extra calorie!

Eat a high protein food at each meal and snack. Protein-rich foods (help build and repair) include fish, chicken, turkey, lean beef and pork, tofu, cottage cheese, cheese, yogurt, milk, eggs, peanut butter, nuts, seeds, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and beans.

I'm not sure how you eat but I have a fairly low carb, moderate fat WOE. I also am not usually hungry before 10 AM or so. Do you have access to a refrigerator or do you have a small insulated lunch pack you can take food in? Do you have a microwave you can use?

Here are some things I eat for that first meal of the day:

Oat bran and berries - I mix 3 Tbsp of oat bran (plain bran, not the cereal) with 3 Tbsp of hot water, and add a few berries and a little cinnamon, stir and eat

Frittata with a slice of double fiber bread or a few strawberries

Cottage cheese mixed with berries and walnuts or mixed with a little bit of peanut butter and 1/3 of a chopped apple

BLT salad in a jar - so easy to take along and great tasting, even in the morning

Muffin in a minute with a little butter, peanut butter, or cream cheese

microwave 'minicakes' made with 1 scoop protein powder+some water+1 apple in little pieces+1 tsp cocoa+raisins(optional)+cinnamon. prepare a bowl with this mixture in the evening, put it in the fridge, microwave in the morning. voilà!

I've been sticking to my oatmeal and yogurt for morning. Its easier for me to carry in my bag on the commute to work. Oatmeal I can actually leave at my desk along with other snacks I can much on throughout the day (been trying to eat smaller snacks/meals throughout the day)

My breakfasts are quite unusual. A leftover diet pizza slice, or some tuna salad, or a V8 and
some peanut butter on toast.
I can't stomach sweets in the mornings, and usually am not hungry till around 10:30 am.

Sometimes I will have part of a leftover sandwich, but I do know, I have to have protien in the mornings, or I'll be constantly hungry.
Roast beef, peanuts, eggs, turkey, kippered herring, chicken, anything with a lot of protien per serving. The naturally occurring fat that comes with the meat or peanuts really helps with hunger.

Diet pizza: 1 flatbread, pizza sauce, RAO brand, veggies on it, and some mozzarella cheese. Sometimes some lean ground beef, too.

I have a homemade sugar free apple raisin bran muffin every day for breakfast. I make them every 2 weeks or so and freeze them individually or in 2's to take out the night before. I need something quick and easy in them morning and can even eat that while getting out the lunches for work and school.

I've been eating High fiber oatmeal, or Fiber bars (chocolate and almond flavor). I used to not eat breakfast at all, it used to make me sick and gross feeling if I did, but now that i'm religiously eating breakfast, I actually am hungry in the morning, and I eat healthier and dont binge eat as much if I have breakfast

If you have a sweet tooth, try a granola bar with fruit and/or nuts in it.

Also there are yogurt-covered granola bites.

Hi,

For a healthier cereal you can try Shredded Wheat, top with banana or berries, cinnamon or pumpkin spice.
A vegetable sandwich, tomato/cucumber/bell pepper/radish/baby spinach/whatever you have in the fridge/mustard on wholegrain bread/bun.
Soup in a thermos.
Smoothie.
Fruit salad in a thermos.
Quiche or Frittata.
Celery with tahini or cheese spread.
A banana
Pancakes, make a batch and freeze individually. Easy to reheat.

I used to have the same smoothie for months but when I ran out of my protein booster, I had a tablespoon of peanut butter, sliced banana on 100% whole wheat bread. I forgot how good and filling it is.

I'm not a big breakfast eater and try to eat something although my stomach doesn't "wake up" when I do. I still eat a small bowl of cereal, a cereal bar or a orange or a peice of fruit. But I believe no such thing as "breakfast foods." A half sandwich, a bowl of soup, about anything you like will do.

I have two "standard breakfasts"... one is yogurt with fruit and oats (I just change the fruits depending on the season/what's on sale/what i feel like - and I can eat this stuff several times a week and never get bored). The other thing I eat is something that just kind of evolved in my frying pan - stir fried veg with an egg (or two) scrambled in. Originally i was making more conventional-looking omelettes, filling them with sauteed peppers and mushrooms... but over time i started making more and more veg, and ditching the cheese entirely, and then i got lazy and rather than try to create an omelette shape i started just tossing it all together. I have tried this with so many different veg combinations, either leftovers from the night before, or freshly sauteed. Sometimes I'll throw in a dash of soy sauce (egg fu yung taste), sometimes a dash of chili powder or salsa... it's a huge portion, filling, and keeps me satisfied all morning long.

Goal 1 - break 200 (46 pounds lost)**DONE**
Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE**
Goal 3 - BMI = Normal (154# or less)

Sometimes just a change in perspective can help. Instead of thinking of it as "breakfast", just think in terms of "food". There's no good reason to limit your choices to typical breakfast fare, other than habit. How hungry are you at that hour? What do you *want* to eat?

I make a big batch of pancakes/waffles on the weekend. And then I can can just grab one and throw it in the toaster during the week and head out the door. It works well.

I love breakfast. I usually have a green smoothie (kale, 1/2 banana, frozen fruit), but sometimes I want something more too. I keep oatmeal packets at work for when I don't have time to eat at home in the morning. You could also keep English muffins at the office (if you have a toaster), or bring Greek yogurt with you.

When I was in HS I used to love to eat soup for breakfast. I haven't done that in a long time but it's another option!

All these ideas are great! I didnt realize so many people dont eat the 'conventional breakfast' foods. Its a great way to save on wasting food and leftovers thats for sure! And using Avacado's as a spread on toast? Never thought of that!

On the weekend I might do a fried rice dish with brown rice, lots of veggies and either an egg or an egg substitute. If I have avocado I'll spread that on toast or English muffin and have tomatoes instead of my regular fruit. If I have an early meeting and need to take breakfast on the train, I'll have a Kind bar and fruit.

I'm a creature of habit, so my go-to breakfast just about every day is a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter. It's a good mix--for me--of carbs and protein, and it fills me up and keeps me satisfied until lunchtime (generally between 11:30 and 12:30). Plus, it's delicious!

I do not think it as Alternatives, veggies, protein, fruit, and some times carbs, as long as you eat some thing for breakfast is the purpose, 3 -5 meals, like eggs can be eaten at any time any meal and a low $$ protein.

Try making a smoothie in the morning before you go to work. It starts your day with lots of fruits and veggies and adding some yogurt gives you protein you need to get through the morning.

Here's my current recipe:

1 bunch of spinach and kale
1 small apple chopped
1 banana peeled and chopped
2 clementines peeled and separated
2 scoops low fat vanilla greek yogurt
2 ounces Goodbelly probiotic juice
2 ice cubes

Simply put all the ingredients in a blender until liquified and then enjoy!

Doing this has been super easy and filling in the morning and it can tide you over until the afternoon when you'd be ready for lunch. Great things to snack on mid morning would be high quality granola bars (high in protein), pistachios or any other nut you like, or bring some clementines for the road. All of that is easy to pack and won't go bad.

I normally eat soup or sandwiches for breakfast. Today I had tuna on rye. I also like 2 pcs of ezekiel bread with a wedge of laughing cow cheese spread on it. I'll also do wraps for breakfast.

Thanks everyone. I work an office job so i'm sitting for almost 9 hours =/ I try to take the stairs and walk around as much as I can so i'm moving. Brining left overs and wraps is a great idea, I didnt realize many people do this for breakfast. I've been trying to break up my meals into mini meals and snacks throughout the day. A desk job is great for that, I can stash little snacks and eat them through the day

Raising your calorie count in the morning is not at all a bad thing assuming you can make the calories work out for the whole day, and most people can. Assuming it's good food that meets nutritional needs and doesn't just add calories, there's no reason you should expect that a larger breakfast will not be compensated later on. Speaking for me personally, if I eat twice as many calories for breakfast as I usually do, I will almost surely not want a morning snack (which I usually have otherwise) and my lunch may be smaller too.

As for what, really anything works. My husband's culture's breakfast food is savory and completely unrecognizable as breakfast by American standards. I've gone with tuna salad at times. I've gone with a peanut butter sandwich. Almost anything can work.

It depends on the atmosphere at your workplace. Do people bring good things and heat them up in the microwave? Do they eat these at their desks or stay in a kitchen area? I like freezing my own burritos (breakfast burritos) and heating them in the oven or microwave, but that may not be a good idea at your workplace. It's also a very filling breakfast.

I'm on an overnight oatmeal kick at the moment. At the beginning of the week, I put 1/2 cup of old fashioned oat and 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt along with some frozen fruit into 5 tupperware containers. Then I mix everything up and stick it in the fridge. I grab one each day to take to work for breakfast. With plain Greek yogurt, it ends up being about 300 calories. They keep me full from 8 to 12 or so. Ten minutes on Sunday night means no worries about breakfast the rest of the week.

I eat eggs. Sometimes veggie omelettes, sometimes scrambled eggs and berries with cream cheese, like today. I also like apples N' cinnamon oatmeal, but it doesn't really fit into my low carb diet, so it is a rare treat.

After years of trying to low-carb it, I have accepted cereal back into my life! I eat All-Bran Buds almost every single morning with my plain Greek yogurt and berries. I know All-Bran is not usually anyone's favourite, but it is mine.

Other go-to breakfasts I have tried:

Whole grain mini pitas toasted with cream cheese and smoked salmon
Omelette (easy way to get veggies in at breakfast)
Breakfast sandwich/wrap (eggs and cheese on English muffin or in tortilla)
Whatever is leftover from dinner the night before

Highest weight: 289 lb
Current weight: 167 lb (122 pounds down!)
Goal weight: 140 lb

I love Cheerios too =) I know its one cereal I wont be giving up. I'm hearing alot of people say we can eat anything for breakfast, I thought that raises the calorie count for the morning? Just tryna make healhty choices, i'm sure if I ate veggies for breakfast thats alot better than eating Lucky Charms

I love Cheerios, but they aren't that great nutritionally, despite all the hoopla on the label. If I eat a bowl of Cheerios with milk at 7:30 am, by 9:30 I'll be ready to eat a horse. Special K is even worse. Just a bowl of cereal with milk isn't enough protein for most people for breakfast.

On the other hand, don't believe it when people make statements like "All cereals are bad." That's an extremist point of view that isn't really very helpful. I eat a bowl of Kashi Go Lean with 3/4 c. 2% milk most mornings -- 5 grams of fat, 40 grams of slow-burning carbohydrates, 10 grams of fiber and 20 grams of protein. For some people that would be too many carbs. For me it's fantastic. Add a hard-boiled egg or a hunk of cheese and I can go on this for hours.

There's no reason why your breakfast has to be breakfast food. Lots of people eat savory leftovers heated up for breakfast, and why not? Personally I am nauseated by savory foods in the morning, but it works great for some people.

Some ideas

No Sodium Breakfast, No sugar
Kashi Whole Grain puffs 1 cup 70 calories
1 cup of skim Milk 90 Calories
10 Blueberries & 2 chopped walnut halves
200 calories Total

Oatmeal is absorbed slowly, so oatmeal eaters gets a slow rise in blood sugar and enough energy to last through the morning.,,,maybe add nuts, milk, fresh fruit, organic peanut butter.

1/2 cup Daisy 2% cottage cheese, romaine, matchstick carrots
1/2 avocado with crabmeat
1 Apple sliced with a smidgen of peanut butter on each slice
Hard boiled egg on rye and 1 leaf of lettuce

For a low-carb, crunchy breakfast, you might mix Greek yogurt with nuts. Six ounces of plain Greek nonfat yogurt contains only 6 grams of carbs

Grits packet or two...add sliced almonds or walnuts

Sometimes I stick with the standard breakfast foods like oatmeal, eggs, toast, greek yogurt... and other times I may have leftover chili or chicken from the night before.

It is all a matter of what you like :)

anything that's edible really. the past seven days i have had a bagel and cheese twice, goulash once, teriyaki rice and veggies once, a mushroom and rappini omelet with toast and jam, a veggie dog with tortilla chips, and spicy black beans over a baked potato.
the big key is having the right containers and you'll only be limited by your imagination. a good insulated lunch tote and freezer packs are a must and some type of thermos [i love my funtainer. it's 10oz, wide mouthed and keeps stuff hot or cold for 5 hours. if i put yogurt and frozen fruit in it at 7/8 in the morning it's not even thawed enough to eat until 1/2 in the afternoon] can really open up more options. once you have the container to keep the food at the appropriate temperature salads, soups, sandwiches, stews and beyond all become options. leftovers from last night's dinner are by far the easiest option.

Good Morning fellow SparkPeeps!
I am looking for an alternative to eating cereal for breakfast... this might be a simple and easy answer but i'm curious what suggestions people give me. I was reading message board topic on Cheerios this morning (from 2010) and it was a total turn off for me because it stated Cheerios were unhealthy... and the converstaion thread continued to say ALL cereals were bad due to the sugar content and how they are processed. I dont want to turn off anyone who went from eating Lucky Charms to Cheerios, and i'm not banning cereal from my meal plan, just looking for alternatives for the moment. I need something I can bring into work easily and wont perish fast (I commute an hour and a half on public transportation to get to work every morning). I kept bagel thins and Bran cereal at my desk for a long time, and just finished my bran cereal this morning.
Suggestions?
