You need to try and hit the minimum. Eating below that won't make you lose weight faster, and may in fact sabotage you, because your body will slow down your metabolism if you chronically undereat. Just like you need to eat below a certain amount to lose weight, you need to stay above the minimum to be healthy. Food is fuel, and your body needs it to function!

It all depends and you typically don't want to be going much lower - and not lower than your BMR. Cutting calories too low will cause your body to slow down to protect itself and your weight loss will stall.

I personally don't think that there is anything wrong with, as long as you are not feeling hungry (starving yourself to see quicker results).

Do you do a lot of exercise?

Dietician Becky comes here, and she can probably answer this the best.

Since you are above 1200 calories; and assuming that you are including a variety of health-providing foods in your diet to meet nutritional need---you should be fine.

Remember too...that on those days that you may have a greater hunger; do include more food in your diet.

How much lower are you going - and what is the lower limit of your range?

Hi all,

I'm new to SP :) I'm trying to lose weight & am just wondering how important is it that I eat within the calorie range that SP suggests? I have consistently been eating fewer calories than the lower limit of the range (not on purpose) yet, the number of carbs, fats and proteins I have been eating are all within range. I was wondering how this could even happen and is it a big deal since I'm still getting enough carbs, fats and proteins?

Thanks!
