I walked by a Bulk Barn store and rremembered reading this so decided to go in (for the first time ever). Wow they have everything (good and bad). I found chia seeds and picked up a scoop worth, my first use included 3 tbsps in a smoothie which I didn't drink instantly so it was like jello on the bottom and I was so full afterwards. I know just use just 1 tbsp and am always extremely full after drinking a smoothie :)

Will be going back to the Bulk Barn but stearing clear of the Reese Peanut Butter Stix aisle.

Thank you Slimmerkiwi, I reduced the recommended serving and now have 1 tbsp of flax, chia and hemp hearts each day.

Thank you Cuda440, I liked the tip to include the chia seeds in yogurt it works well with the texture. I'm a huge peanut butter fan so looking forward to trying them with peanut butter :)

I like flax seeds myself. chia seeds get stuck in my teeth too much. Actually though my favorite is hemp.

Thank you Scubatelly for the tip to use the tracker, I hadn't thought of using it. I've since used it to look up other things as well, it is so helpful to have access to this database. Thank you also for mentioning the hemp hearts, I love them and now have them daily :)

Thank you JCOW84 for your feedback. I looked into the nutritional qualities and learned flax has more omega 3's and chia has more fiber. The recommended serving size for each appears to be 3 tbsp, I like that you were incorporating 1 tbsp of each instead of the full serving of each which I've started doing as well. Thanks for this tip.

I use a pinch of flax in my smoothies. But I add a tsp of chia seeds with my greek yogurt and granola mix. Or I sometimes use a pinch of chia mixed with peanut butter to dip my apple slices in.
From what I can remember, chia has slightly more protein, fiber and omega's than flax. But not a huge difference.

Why not use both? If the calories are a problem, reduce the quantity per each a little.

I use chia in my smoothies and flax in my oatmeal and baking/cooking. They're both good, but not necessarily interchangeable. If you can find them in a small container, or better yet, the bulk bins, try a little. I know it's daunting to buy great big bag without knowing what to do with them.

You can type them both into your tracker and see which one has more of the nutrients you need.

You can do like me and use them both, as well as hemp seeds. Flax has so much fiber and I just like the chia texture, and all 3 help up my protein naturally.

I use a tbs. of both flax and chia in my oatmeal - I think they have different nutritional qualities so it's not necessarily that one should be used instead of the other.

Does anyone know which is better from a nutritional stand point? I've read chia seeds are more filling which can reduce your desire to keep eating, but do they offer a better nutritional benefit?

I've started drinking one smoothy per day with one tablespoon of hemp hearts and one tablespoon of ground flax; and wondering if the flax seeds should be replaced with chia seeds.
